The food is really good, but the service is very slow at dinner time. I have been there twice. The first time it took a very long time just to get a waiter/waitress to ask us what we wanted to drink. Then our drinks were empty for a while while we tried to get a refill. Then we saw other people who came in after us get served first. Yesterday I went in for dinner to give them a second chance and couldn't even get something to drink because the waitress spent a very long time yucking it up at one of the tables. Rule #1 in the hospitality/service industry: Do NOT lie to your customers. I really try to like this place and forgive them for previous mistakes, but today's visit was the straw that broke the camel's back. I spent over $30 as a solo diner--- getting 2 craft beers, a burger, and wings. Service was decent, but the wings were REALLY lacking sauce--- I've ordered the wings with Caribbean Jerk seasoning every time I've ordered them-- about 4 times in the last 3 months they've been pretty good. Today the sauce was VERY lacking, so I asked my server Tammy for some extra sauce--- I would have been willing to even pay for extra sauce. However, I was lied to by server Tammy who told me the Caribbean Jerk was a dry rub, and thus she couldn't get me any more sauce. Apparently my glasses make me look dumb, as it's clear that this is not a dry rub--I'm from Oklahoma and know the difference between a glaze/sauce and a dry rub--- since BBQ is very common in Oklahoma. I do not appreciate being lied to by Tammy. Now, I would understand if I was paying only $.50 a wing during Winston's wing special during happy hour, but I was not--- I paid full price for the wings. It's a shame consider that I've spent in excess of $350+ at Winston's in 2014 alone, and will probably stop going there--- simply because Tammy lied to me about something that I was willing to pay for [extra wing sauce] and would have only cost a whopping $.50 if that. read more

First time here. $2 happy hour is definitely a plus. Ordered the French Dip...quite possibly the best French Dip I have ever had. Why? Not sure exactly, but probably the combination of the tasty bread they use, and that the beef is not well done but on the rare side of medium, making it more tender and flavorful. I really enjoyed Winston's. I ate here with a coworker while here for work. We started with the crab dip, which was delicious. I ordered the house salad and the potato soup. Great place to go on weekend evenings for inexpensive beer and good live music. The place is small but they seem to fit the band in the corner, just don't trip on the cables when heading to the bathroom. They have a late night bar menu too with your typical fried food, which is usually what you want at 11:30 or 12 anyway. Chicken strips for $6 and PBRs for less than $3. read more

I ate here on a Thursday night. I went with the French dip and the Ahi Tuna nuggets appetizer; both were excellent! The restaurant name suggests a Café', but it looks more like a bar inside. But that doesn't take anything away from Winston's. There was live music; 2 guys on guitar and singing; and they were really good. I think they have live music every Thursday thru Saturday. There are plenty of big screen TVs if you want to catch the game and even a small arcade in the back if you bring the kids. I really liked this place. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Had a crab spinach dip which was very delicious. It was a bit too crabby if that makes sense but it was good. Both husband and I had a burger. The meat itself was flavorless and I didn't find the burgers to be anything special. The service was good since we were only two other tables. Before we payed our waiter asked if I wanted a box I told her I'm still eating, since I didn't want the box yet. We paid and she just said have a great night and didn't bother coming back. Didn't take my leftovers. The fries were yummy. Something weird was that instead of bringing ketchup and mustard bottles they brought it out in little takeout containers. I found out about Winston's Cafe through Yelp. I travel to Chesapeake for work several times a year for the past 5 years, and I can't believe I never heard about Winston's until now. The 4-Star rating was spot on. Great food, a variety of local craft beers, live music, and a friendly wait staff. The food is much better than any of the typical, well-known bar and grills. I had the ahi tuna appetizers, which were very delicious. The Feather and Fin was delicious as well; a grilled chicken breast with a crab topping. I have found my new go-to bar and restaurant when I work in Chesapeake. read more

Great little local bar and grill. I am a heavy traveler due to work so I end up eating out 4-6 nights a week. This is a great little place. Great food and drink. The staff is great and friendly. I wish all dining facilities were this unique. The first time I was there I had the Cajun pasta. Second time I had the Winston burger. This is a unique burger as it is a burger with provolone cheese and crab with lettuce and tomato. Very good. The cook can cook. This place could be 4 tones bigger just with the quality of the food. The bartender was phenomenal. She could make a normal Manhattan not made with cherry juice. They have a great happy hour I just wish I could make it for it. I will definitely go to this place again. And will make it a regular stop when I'm in the Norfolk Chesapeake area. Condos to the owners manager cook and wait staff this place rocks. Update: Well I came in on prime rib night expecting to order it. However a stuffed chicken in mushroom gravy caught my eye. It was another special. This needs to be a regular menu item. So after leaving Hooter's my friend suggested this place that her and her mom go to frequently. As soon as we walked in I happen to notice that this lady was just negatively staring down my son and my friend son, when she noticed I was watching her she said oh they are cute. Well we seated our self then the same lady who was apparently a waitress asked if we wanted anything to drink I ordered a water my friend a tea. The. She said what we wanted to order. I ordered myself a House Salad, 10 wings and 10 steamed shrimp and my child tender and fries. Well fast forward my son didn't want a fry off the plate he bit it and spit it out and turned his head after a few attempts of fries and chicken so I am not going to force him to eat. I told her he didn't want it and she said you don't want to take it home and I replied no. She never asked if the kids wanted anything to drink along with being very short and rude with us. When we asked for napkins she said " Oh you want napkins?? Well here you go" and slammed them on the table... man friend said she never seen this lady in the restaurant before. When my ticket was brought to me the order for my child meal was up there she never explained the policy until I asked why was I being charged for a meal he didn't eat and she said because I ordered it even if you don't like it you still have to pay for it. When I asked for a manager she said no one was available and to try on Monday. When I asked a customer next to me about it she ran over with her hand on her imagination looking at me I asked her was there a problem she said you talking about me I said I didn't mention your name or suggested you in any way and the attitude wasn't needed so to end this she said you don't have to pay nothing but never come back here again. I'm giving Winstons a 2 star because my husband and I have been going here for at least 4 years...and the food has been going downhill ever since...especially this year. I would normally give them a 4 star. Last night I ordered chili, which is very good, and it comes with tortilla chips...I must of gotten the end of an old bag, cause they were stale and bits and pieces...hubs pretty much got the same thing with his actual chips. I also ordered a BLT...the bacon was overly done and the chips I got were very stale...though I did have more than hubs had and mine weren't bits and pieces...so I guess I got the first dump and he got the end of the bag. Even still both types of chips were broken and very stale. Also, I had no mayo on my BLT...now who doesn't know a BLT gets mayo???? Seriously...I'll go in for the chili but I'll go elsewhere for my actual food from now on. Service...depends on who you get...they need more than one person behind the bar when it's busy cause you wait a while to place an order and to get it. read more

We tried this place on a whim, we now go back all the time!! All of their food is amazing, nothing has disappointed so far. They also have great beer specials and a really fun environment. The food is really good 7 times out of 10. However, they are not consistent with the servings. The last time we took a couple of friends we were served potato salad in a condiment cup. Like something you would put ketchup in. The last time my husband and I went I got a salad and it was served on a small dessert plate. Before it was decent size and delicious. Horrible experience after being a constant customer for over 2 years. Called in my order and showed up 15 minutes after. I walked in and there were 3 customers in the whole place so I know they were not busy. Once I got to the bar, the bartender or whoever he was (I don't know because he never introduced himself) looked at me so I assumed I could talk to him. I told him I was here for the to go order, he responded saying he thinks it's almost ready. I pay for my food and have a seat, about 20 minutes later I start getting annoyed that my food isn't ready and nobody has said anything to me. At the 30 minute point I stated to the guy behind the bar that if I had known I would be waiting this long I would have had a beer. He senses my tone and says he will go check on the food. Five minutes later, he comes and brings me my food. I go to my car because I'm in a rush at this point. Luckily I check the food before I leave the parking lot. My order consisted of 2 large fries, buffalo chicken tenders, and a French dip with chips, this cost 25$. When I open the first box, i find roughly half a box of fries. My chicken tenders were in the next box. And the French dip was in the last box with a couple (6 or 7) of fries and no chips. I immediately go back into the establishment and ask for the correct order that I paid for. Some random guy (i think he was an accountant or something but again nobody introduced themselves) that was sitting at the bar drinking beer goes into the kitchen and explains what happened and to give me more fries and an order of chips. The guy behind the bar apologizes again and offers to buy me a beer, which at this point felt like an insult because of how much time I've wasted and poor customer service I had received. As I said, I had been going there for over 2 years, I know the owner and most of the staff and have never had a problem, but this was unacceptable. read more

We absolutely LOVE Winston's! We would frequent here for the awesome happy hour they have but now that I'm pregnant, my "must have's" have changed to the loaded chips and french onion soup. The portions are perfect, even for my husband's insatiable appetite. The atmosphere is fun and cozy at the same time. The staff is phenomenal even when we bring our crazy 5 year old! Went to Winstons on a Saturday night around 9pm. There was a nice crowd, not overcrowded, with a live band setting up. That was as nice as it got. The waitress was inattentive. We sat there for 15 mins just waiting for her. Once she took our order we sat around for another 45 minutes waiting for appetizers (we all ordered appetizers 4 of us). The whole time we waited the band was 'setting up" which consisted on beating on the drum randomly. No music was ever played while we were there. Once the food started to come out, we didn't get our food together. It was sporadically bought out to us. Then the wings came with hair on it. At this point we had been there an hour, only recieved 1/4 of our order and heard absolutely NO music. We kindly declined the rest of our food and begin to leave. Then to put the icing on the cake, we were asked to point out thr hair as if they didnt believe us. Oh yeah, they dont wear hair nets or hats at this place. My wife and I went in last evening to eat and listen to a 2 piece jazz/blues band. This was our first time visiting Winstons. The food, seafood quesadilla and ahi tuna wrap was delicious. Our waitress, Megan, could not have been nicer or more informative. Great service. Band was great and not too loud to chat over dinner. Very reasonable pricing on food and beverages.
