This is going to sound really strange, but here goes: I'm a promo model at night. I'm out at between twelve and fifteen different bars for five nights out of the week. I have been to almost every single bar from the Oceanfront to Yorktown. Basically, I know bars. I know bar food. When I'm working, I'm hungry. Normally, I never really feel like eating. Reason being: I don't trust bar food, I really don't. I see people eating it all of the time when I'm working, but 99% of the time I assume that they're only eating it because they're piss drunk. Hell, I would eat cucumber s'mores if I was sh*t-faced. Judy's Pub is the exception. Normally on the Strawbridge route, the reps have a code: only eat the food at Fired Up. Until one day, I was working solo on the Strawbridge route after my partner called out. I was starving and I really didn't feel like eating the same fried crap from Fired Up, I wanted something different. Like literally pregnancy craving something. A philly cheesesteak. Ugggggh, I wanted one so bad that it was borderline heart-wrenching. So, up next was Judy's Pub. I drove into the parking lot, starving and broke. The next bar on my list was Central III and, while a Steak Oscar sounded bangin', I totally didn't have Steak Oscar money nor did I really want a reason to stay at those bars longer than necessary. So, I walked in and there it was: their board said "Philly Cheese Steak". I ordered it from their awesome bartender (seriously, favorite bartender on the whole route) who doesn't eat meat. I told the young lass to douse it with onions, cheese, and cake on the seasoning (I have bland taste buds). She did just that. It was INCREDIBLE. I took one bite of it in the bar and seriously ran like hell to the car so I could scarf it down. Amazing. So delicious, so flavorful, it literally melted in my mouth. I totally didn't expect that. I mean, who would from a dive bar?! WHO WOULD EXPECT THE BEST PHILLY CHEESESTEAK IN THE 757 TO BE FROM A FREAKING DIVE BAR?!?!!?!?!? Seriously. I've had Philly Style. I've had Iggles. I've had Philadelphia Cold Cuts. They are NOTHING compared to the Philly at Judy's Pub and that is a tall freakin' order. Go. Right. Freaking. Now. read more

This is not the kind of place to START your evening of debauchery in, but it IS DEFINITELY the place to END it! It is a small dive bar in the shopping center on the corner of Great Neck and Virginia Beach Boulevard. They have a better selection on the jukebox than anywhere else IF you can get your songs in before the guy who ALWAYS plays the entire freaking Nickelback album every time we are in there. The drinks are cheap and made well. There are a handful of regulars that are always there and there is a foosball table, that you can team up with people and play on. If you play your cards right, you might end up getting a celebratory kiss out of the deal. You never know what kind of crowd you will be walking into at Judy's - but you can be sure that a good time will be had by all and there will be plenty (of people) to talk about while you are there. Went in at lunch...only ones in there. Lunch apparently isn't really their busy time. Tiny place, and much to my wife's chagrin, all they have are bar height chairs. We both ordered the Pub Burger and fries. The fries were crisp and pretty tasty, but the burgers were about as plain as can be. A little salt and pepper would help a lot, kids. Service was good, very, um, trusting. Anyhoo, lackluster as far as a lunch place...but I've got a feeling they're probably ok with that. read more

Have been here three times since moving here in October. First time was for drinks with friends from out of town. It's right down the street from our house. It was always packed and everytime we stop in the shopping center it was always crowded with people, Friendly people outside and around. So we went there one night around 1am. Great crowd, very friendly and lively. Second time I went there I decided to try their Burger. Well worth the money, big, juicy and full of flavor and it came with fries and a drink. $6. Tonight I had thesteak and cheese it was about a 8 inch, full of meat and flavor and red onions, came with fries. I am very particular about cheesesteaks but I'm glad I gave this one a try it was delicious. Judys is definetly a place I will eat, go hang out again for sure. This is a great bar in Virginia Beach.Forget the expensive bars at the Oceanfront.Judy's always has a great happy hour from 11-7 everyday and then after the drinks are still reasonable price wise. This is a sort of out of the way local bar that's been there for decades. It's under new ownership which has upgraded it from a "dive" dive bar to a "great local" dive bar. Good prices and really excellent pub grub that comes from an impossibly small kitchen. There's no foo-foo, brass-rail-and-ferns stuff here. People entertain themselves in the old-fashioned way---conversation, cocktails and music. Insider's tip: don't go to the expensive, crowded brunch places on the weekend, go to Judy's. You can get a nice American breakfast, do your crossword puzzle, and have an excellent bloody mary without waiting or needing valet parking. read more

This is our favorite neighborhood spot. Fun people, great food, good drinks. Beyond good drinks! Staff is very friendly and welcoming, food always delicious and prepared as ordered, lots of good specials every night. Highly recommend both the Steak and Cheesesteak nights. Wing, Taco and Burger Nights are up there, as well. Great jukebox and a great variety of music is always playing. You will rarely hear a Nickelback song, but you might hear "All I Want for Christmas is You" during August. It's part of the charm of the place. Even if you come in as a "newbie" you will be treated like a regular by both staff and patrons. You will definitely want to come back! read more

If you need your dive bar fix there is no better place than Judy's. The people are super friendly, the food is excellent, and the atmosphere screams of days gone by. My friend and I met there around 4 pm on a Friday. A chalkboard announced steak night. A ribeye or t-bone w/side for $9.95. I didn't need a menu at that point. My friend ordered a burger along with my steak. We sipped strong cocktails while we waited for our food. I didn't time the kitchen on our food as we are in a dive bar people, the ambiance, local partrons, friendly staff all combined to make you forget about time. Or food arrived and was excellent. The steak was nice sized and cooked perfectly. My friend said her burger was also more than satisfactory. Nothing to do? Hungry for a cheap though excellent meal? Looking for a friend? We stopped by for a drink and a snack of burger and fries. No new friends here. Took over 40 mins to get food. The cook does not look like he wants to be here either. Eventually, had to ask for our food. "Yeah, it's coming ". Unfriendly, stand off-ish . Too bad. I really wanted to like this place. How was the food? I used to go to Judy's all the time, it's close to home and they have cheap drinks on HH... these are the good points. The restaurant is dark and gloomy, you have to pay for music via the jukebox, there's an ATM that's been out of order for years, the food is slightly better than high school lunches, and the bar tenders talk smack and alienate their customers and have run off most of the HH regulars; it's completely dead the majority of the day and most week nights. The owner is drunk at the bar 90% of the time he's there, and I witnessed him flip out on one of his MOD's. He destroyed a few sauce pans, and wrecked the kitchen. He peeled wheels out of the parking lot, almost hit 2 customers walking in, all the while screaming the worst profanities in the book (at the MOD and customers). On one occasion the daytime bar tender was talking about a prank she pulls on the other tenders, hiding a rubber mouse in the till. I didn't understand why it was so funny... she told me its because they have real mice breeding in the walls. I wish I could rate it with 0 stars... read more

They cleaned this place up a cpl of years ago so now its a pretty casual place to hang & down a few Fireball's. If you're lucky Lizzie will be tending bar ~ she makes the best burgers & nibbles! They have a great steak special on Friday and Saturday night, rib eye with one side only $8.95 !! Steak is seared to perfection, you can't get a better steak for that price. Went for lunch on work day. Stuck in vicinity while car was being worked on at treadquarters. This place was recommended by the local barber and I had a very tasty lunch (chicken philly and homemade veg soup), excellent conversation with the few fellow customers, and great friendliness and conversation from the bartender and owner. Greatly exceeded my expectations after a less than superb curb appeal. It's a quality little dive bar with good food and friendly people. I will most definitely be back next time I'm in the vicinity. read more
