The last time I visited Winston's was around November 2014. I had already given up on the place, as numerous times, the service was beyond mediocre. I decided to give the place an additional try, after having given the place numerous chances over the years. I'm sad to report that tonight was another disappointment, and I really doubt I'll be going there again. As another Yelper noted with their Yelp review on July 8th, the place seems to have a regular group of older gentlemen that are all friends, with one of them connected to the restaurant. I will refrain from posting this gentleman's name. I will provide a vague description of the gentleman associated with the restaurant: He's a gentleman in his late 50's/early 60's with Whitish/Greyish hair. I mention this for a reason, and will elaborate more about him later in this review. The place is a revolving door for servers, except the main blonde bartender who has been there for years. On this visit, the only server working the restaurant besides the blonde bartender ,had about 7 booths to look over. [There were only 7 booths that the server had to take care of] When I had arrived, I had found the last open booth which was still dirty. I sat at the booth for literally 10 minutes [I timed it on my cell phone] before the server came back to clean off the table. I waited another 5 minutes after the table was cleaned before the server decided to take my drink order. I asked her for a beer that I really enjoyed there 6 months ago. When I said the name of the beer, the server gave a look like I asked for a unicorn. Clearly they cut back their beer selection. There were 2 women that were at high-top tables next to me that had their drink order and food order taken by the blonde female bartender--- both had arrived after me--before I was even asked for my drink order. I ordered two beers, wings, and a burger. In a previous Yelp review, I had mentioned that when I ordered the wings with Caribbean jerk seasoning, there was hardly any wing sauce. Well on this visit to Winston's the wings had no sauce whatsoever. A completely dry rub, again even though the menu made no mention of the wings being a dry rub. Before my wings arrived, a 30-something couple at the table behind me asked how long their food would take. The server said "no more than 5 more minutes". Well 10 minutes passed, and the couple left. They had already been seated for well over 40 minutes. My server went over the previously mentioned gentleman, associated with the restaurant, seated at the bar. He looked livid at the fact the couple left and publicly chewed out my server at the bar. Apparently because all the other people were friends of the gentleman associated with the restaurant none of them looked embarrassed because of this outburst towards my server. After my burger arrived, there was no bacon. I asked for 4 specific things for my burger: -American Cheese -No Onion -Bacon -The burger to be done medium well It took about 3 minutes to the server to return to the table, and I asked her for bacon since I mentioned it was supposed to be on the burger. I said than rather to re-do the burger for the chef to just fry up some bacon on the side. Magically there was bacon fully cooked and ready less than 2 minutes later. To the server's credit, she was pretty good on drink refills. Overall it literally took 1 hour and 20 minutes to be served and consume wings, 2 burgers and a beer. I can't believe how long this took for such a simple meal, not a 5 course dinner. I would give this review only 1 star, however the server did something that has rarely happened to me at a restaurant when things go wrong: The female server actually took ownership, and apologized for how long it took to clear my table and serve me food. She also apologized for how long it took to get my food, claiming their regular chef wasn't working and it was this chef's 2nd day on the job. I greatly appreciate her honesty. Because this action on her behalf, I decided to give Winston's 2 stars instead of just 1 star. I get the impression that the man associated with the restaurant simply does not care about the overall experiences of customers. No changes have been made in the countless times I've visited. It appears based on other poster's negative experiences that this place is merely a hangout for the owner and or man associated with the restaurant that at the bar almost daily. As long as the place makes ends meet, there is no incentive to make this place better. It's like it's a bar/man cave first, and a restaurant for the public secondly. The servers are over-worked, and ownership does not want to pay labor for more than 2 restaurant employees [besides the chef] even during peak times. Loyal customers [besides the regulars at the bar] are larger customers in terms of revenue than one-time customers. Without customer loyalty a business cannot succeed. Hopefully serving one-time customers is not Winston's business model. read more

My review is based on a to go order I stopped by Winston's Café and had to try their lumpia since I'd heard great things. Let me just say, the flavor was amazing! The crispy wrapper was perfectly fried, and the seasoning in the filling was spot on. My only issue? It could use more meat. While the veggies and spices were tasty, I found myself wishing for a heartier bite. Still, it's definitely worth trying--just know it's lighter on the protein. The wings here are a total win! The barbecue sauce is next-level delicious. It's the perfect combo of sweet, tangy, and smoky, and it coats the wings perfectly without being overwhelming. I was practically licking my fingers after each bite. Seriously, I'd buy that sauce by the bottle if I could. Now, let's talk about the chicken tenders--wow! These are some of the best I've had in a while. They're crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned just right. Pair them with that killer barbecue sauce, and you've got a match made in heaven. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or a full meal, you have to order these. The tenders are covered in barbecue sauce. The Cubano sandwich at Winston's Café is an absolute standout. The layers of tender, juicy pork and ham are perfectly complemented by melted cheese, tangy pickles, and just the right amount of mustard. The bread is toasted to perfection, giving it a satisfying crunch with every bite. It's hearty, flavorful, and everything you'd want in a Cubano. This is definitely a must-try if you're a sandwich lover! Winston's Café is definitely worth a visit if you're craving great food! read more

This place should become my favorite one since now. No where else can beat it for the price and the AWESOME food. We ordered from their special menu of the day which were 6oz sirloin AND your choice of tuna, salmon or shrimp, AND two sides for ONLY $12.99! You believe it or not the steak and tuna (my choice) were very tasty, as well as the sides! I have been trying restaurants in the areas and for that 6oz steak should cost me $30 for the same taste! Hmmm writing this makes me want to go there now! So yummy! The only down points were the place itself is kinda old (they have been there for more than 20 years!) and the live band was too loud. came here with my best friend who has only just moved to virginia beach. She loves american food so we looked up the best american food near us and this place popped up. We decided to give it a try and since then, i've gone back with other people more than 5 times. Their fries and sandwitches are delicious and so i always get them. Never tried anything else but definitely recomend this place for some authentic american food. read more

What a fun place to spend an evening! I had a great meal, fresh salmon which I ordered a little on the rare side and it was perfect. And my husband said it was the best burger he'd had in a long time. And the prices were reasonable too. And they had live music and really friendly people - we just thoroughly enjoyed it. Had an amazing time at the Winston's Cafe! The service was quick and pleasant, and the burger we ordered was perfectly juicy, not overcooked.
