Our one kid/two puppy family gives Winter Harbor Inn an 11/10 because it's very clean, spacious, comfortable, and charming--a short walk from the grocery, restaurants, and historic downtown (cute, artsy, full of fishing boats). A dog-friendly, free shuttle will pick you up at the doorstep and take you around Schoodic Point (the prettiest part of Acadia National Park) and drop you back at the Inn after a hike. The backyard is fenced and has several outdoor seating areas where you can play fetch with Fido, sit by the fire, read a book in the hammock, or have a cookout (grill, wood, utensils, etc. provided) in a beautifully candle-lit setting. We also enjoyed playing board games with our 11 year old (they have hundreds!) one rainy night, how wonderful that our dogs could hang out in the room with us--Leisure Lee, especially, appreciated the dog bed provided. There's on site pet-sitting offered for an extra fee. But not with just anyone! Pam and Arnold are pet experts, breeders (pugs), groomers--they know animals inside/out and really spend time with them (long walks on the beach, playtime, feedings, etc.--they treat pets like people). We asked them to sit with our two puppies (bloodhound and boxer-mix--leather- chewing piranhas, really) from 6 am to 9 pm while we went into Bar Harbor for the day and when we returned Azy was in Pam's lap, and Leisure Lee was asleep, listening to music, by the fire--I don't know of any conventional hotel that offers pet-owners such peace of mind via this service. The breakfast--wow! Fresh fruit, yogurt, granola bars, organic oatmeal, bagels, cream cheese, wheat germ--you can eat healthy if you wish, but they also have pop tarts, kid-cereals, chocolate muffins, fancy creamers for coffee, all sorts of juices, unlimited pet treats and bottled waters. A family on a budget, we loved that we were able to place our own groceries, too, on the fridge shelf provided. That said, Three Sisters Café, down the road a ways, offered great deals on good food when we ate out, and the food stand in front of The Fisherman's Inn had inexpensive lobster rolls to die for. While there, we met an Italian couple, a family from Maine, and a retired librarian--all quiet, conscientious, interesting folks we loved meeting. But Pam and Arnold are the warm, whip-smart people (add to their pet-knowledge incomparable knowledge of fun things to do in the area) that really make the place into a one-of-a-kind, exceptional home away from home--they go way out of their way to make sure their guests are cared for, comfortable, and happy. We loved our trip here, and plan to go back, often. read more

When my husband told me we were going to be staying here for the night, and I saw that they boarded animals, I jokingly asked if we were going to be crated. Turns out, we almost were. We were "greeted" by Arnold, telling us that we had the best room in the house, and because the rest of the inn was booked, we were to stay in that room only. It had a tiny, up high window, was about 40 degrees for several hours until it heated up, there was no water, kettle, or SOAP! When we asked for soap and shampoo, we were told that they were not included. We also were told that there would be no breakfast or even coffee. We were there offseason, so nothing else was open, so we just stayed in that terrible, claustrophobic, freezing cold room with no water. Pam and Arnie could not do more for you. Extremely clean, quite and peaceful. Loved my stay there and am planning on going back soon. I live in the NYC area and it is a great getaway. My comment to the person who left a review on 9/5/18. There is always someone who will complain no matter what. The person who left the review failed to mention that the room she was complaining about has a huge bathroom that does have a WINDOW!!! and what's wrong with smelling fabric softener? Pam the hostess of the Inn does not run the washer or the dryer while guests are in the room. They go beyond beyond to make their guests comfortable. I know because I have stayed there twice and will be returning this summer. Can't wait to visit again!!! I stayed at The Winter Harbor Inn, Bed and Breakfast on August 9th and checked out the 10th. I was able to contact the proprietor only by calling. No proprietor appeared to be on the premises.No one checked us in or out. Prior to making the decision to stay there, I spoke, by phone, with the owner (twice) and I was told that a continental breakfast was provided. Nothing was provided. I could not even make coffee. When I called the owner, he denied having told me that a continental breakfast was provided. Why does an Inn/Bed and Breakfast advertise as such unless they provide breakfast? The actual setting is beautiful and charming. It was very clean and comfortable. read more

Awesome place! Staying at Schoodic woods campground and today was in desperate need of a hot shower. The park office suggested we give the winter harbor inn a call to make shower accommodations. Super easy- my husband called and was greeted by a friendly gentlemen who was able to fit us in right away. Only a mile away from campground- beautiful accommodation for a 20 buck shower. As soon as stepped into the Winter Harbor Inn we felt a peaceful calm and and felt so at home. Within 5 minutes our kids wanted to move to Maine permanently. My 11 year old cockapoo stayed here for a few days while I was away. I couldn't be more pleased with her accommodations & the care she received while she was there! They took her for walks around Winter Harbor & she stayed in the heated grooming salon. No crates for her here! She was allowed to use their dog exercising yard, too. We also had her stay for a couple of days over Christmas a couple of years ago where she got her very own Christmas stocking. Although it's a little on the pricey side, I thought it was worth it to have her so well cared for as well as not having her in a crate the whole time like some places do. Thanks, Pam! read more

Over the years I have learned to ask for non-smoking rooms away from light and noise pollution. Our stay at this inn has taught me that it's necessary, at least some of the time, to ask if our room has a window. Our room at this inn did not. There was an interior cut out into the abutting laundry room whose proximity allowed the smell of fabric softener to be our perfume. The bed was comfortable, the shower was fine, Arnold was friendly though I personally do not welcome hearing about God and country from my innkeeper. We used the room as little as absolutely possible and scrammed for home early on our departure day. Not sure if accommodations like these are even legal; they were certainly claustrophobic and unpleasant. read more
