We traveled north to Saraland to visit family and friends for dinner. Typically we visit the Wintzell's on Airport or downtown Mobile. We arrived at 6pm on a Thursday and there were 7 people at our the table. John was our waiter, the service was dissapointing throughout the meal. Delays in getting drinks, waiting on extra salad dressing, bringing share plate at the end of appetizer, not knowing who ordered what even though he took the orders, he works with his feet (if you know, you know) the list goes on, not good service. The food was tasty especially the large hush puppies with crab. The place was rather quiet for a Thursday, maybe it is the service. We will go back to our other locations next time. read more

This was bad far my worst and subsequent last attempt at Winzells Oyster House in Saraland. $26 for the Oyster Sampler and to be honest they should have been embarrassed to serve it to us. The oysters were so small (smaller than my thumb nail on 5 of the 12). Additionally because they were so small they were also over cooked. Embarrassing.. to be the most expensive thing on their menu. Dinner was ordered steamed basket, shrimp basket, bacon wrapped shrimp, kids had a grilled cheese and crab cake appetizer (for dinner). We waited about 45mins for the food to come out and of course most of it was cold so I sent mine (the shrimp basket) and less than 3 minutes later a new hot one came out. Sat at the bar and ordered the stuffed flounder and a 1/2 dozen charbroiled oysters. It was good. The only thing that was disappointing was seeing what the other people at the bar ordered. Husband and I stopped in for a quick lunch this past Saturday. Service was so-so. The server got my husband's order wrong (he ordered shrimp tacos and got fish tacos instead) but by the time it took to get the right food back out to him, mine was cold and we had to get a to-go box for his because we had run out of time and had to leave. Local Hot Spot for Seafood I was in Saraland earlier this year for business. While searching for an excellent place to eat, I came across Wintzell's Oyster House. Wintzell's Oyster House has been around for over 75 years and is a haven for seafood lovers of all ages. This is a small chain of seafood restaurants with multiple locations around the Mobile area. I was in the mood for oysters and was curious about Alabama Blue Crab so off I went. I was seated immediately in this diner-style spot and was served right away by a very friendly and knowledgeable server. She helped me pick out items to try and helped me pick oysters for my oyster tray. I started with a very hearty Gumbo, served with crackers. The gumbo was thick, packed with flavour with chunks of fresh seafood. After the Gumbo, my oyster tray came out. I had watched as my oysters were hand selected and shucked before the server brought them over, They were fresh and plump and of course delicious. Next up was the Alabama Blue Crab Claws basket. I chose half sauteed and half fried. Don't be fooled by looks of this dish as I thought that it wasn't that big of a portion. I was wrong, I was stuffed after finishing the basket of claws. It was a really good meal and I can't wait to try some other items on my next trip to the area. If you're in Saraland or the Mobile area and looking for a good family spot that's not too expensive, give Wintzell's Oyster House a shot, you won't regret it. read more

I am giving it a 3 because George worked with me and they fit in my whole family (17) on time and the service was awesome. But the food that day was terrible. The Cajun seafood pasta was watery and flavorless. The West Indies was rancid tasting. Multiple people got it and sent it back. The fish tacos were decent but not the best from Wintzells. The grilled oysters were flavorless as well. My son said the fries were good and my daughter liked the grilled popcorn shrimp. Everything else was about the same, bland, watery, just not good. I've been to this location numerous times and I've never had bad food from them but this was just bad food all the way around. Hope it's better next time! read more

Wintzell's is a legendary seafood restaurant in the Mobile area. I was north of town and thought I would drop in on the Saraland location. They do have a large selection available on their lunch menu, so I ordered the fried pickles and the "jumbo" shrimp wrapped in bacon with jalapeño.... Jumbo shrimp, I have attached a photo, and these were not jumbo. Six came with the order and they all easily fit on one wooden skewer with room to spare. Additionally, if you have tried to grill shrimp where you also have to get bacon cooked, you can imagine what happened. That's right, dry, rubbery and chewy shrimp. The collard greens were fine and the plate came with what I thought was a little side garnish of salad. In fact, it was simply undressed lettuce. The fried pickles were solid. Service was good. The food was a 4 but the staff and there service was a 5 all day! They kept my glass full and explained there specials and menu perfectly. The food was pretty good but my bacon wrapped shrimp was pretty salty, other than that all the food was pretty good. It wasn't busy at all so our food came out in under 10 minutes from ordering. Decided to drive up for Mobile to try this place because I heard it was good. Call my order ahead for pickup and went with a recommendation of the J.O. platter, fried. The place was really crowded for Thursday night, almost full to capacity. Customer service was great. I arrived a few minutes after they said my order would be ready, about 15 minutes. The hostess was very attentive and checked on my order a couple of times to let me know that it was on its way. Everything's good, it could have had a little more flavor but everything was good. I didn't expect that much food on the platter but given the name, I should have. I got the Baked potato, Okra and the platter comes with shrimp, oysters, scallops and two pieces of fish. I had plenty left over for tomorrow's lunch. I give it a solid 3 stars but customer service was outstanding and that is definitely worth 4 stars. read more

I didn't say anything about her missing teeth... should I have asked her if she smoked meth? Over all the staff completely sucked in the Sarahland location. The food was alright, but I think the downtown one is way better and will just make the drive next time. My bill was just a receipt. Nothing was itemized so really she could have charged me what ever she wanted for the catch of the day... I also had to ask for a to go cup twice. Again... I'd just skip this location.
