In my humble opinion, this is the nicest little coffee shop in town. Crystal and the staff are very warm and accommodating. In the time I was there, Crystal knew most of their customers' orders before they even said anything. You know you have found a good spot when the clientele is so loyal that the staff has their favorite order memorized. I will be back. read more

There is nothing bad to say about Wired Cafe'. I've have always had friendly service, quality coffee, and great food. A lot of Cafe's in Rockford feel a little lost from their community, and I feel like Wired sets themself apart. There are a bunch of regulars whom frequent Wired who have found a lil' home in this Cafe. I don't know if there's anyone who could walk in that door that wouldn't be welcomed warmly. 3 1/2 stars. Just passing through Rockford on a trip. First the good; The barista was friendly, the shop was clean, including good bathrooms. The chocolate chip cookie was very tasty. The not so good; any new (to me) coffeeshop I go into, I order a plain latte so I can really get a taste for their espresso drinks. This one was average, or a bit below. I don't know what roaster they use, but think they should consider switching, or it is possible it is their machine. The latte had a slightly burnt flavor, and I only drank half of it. Since I feel a coffeehouse lives or dies by their espresso drinks, I can't give 'em four stars. (I was traveling with my mother, who is an Americano fiend, and she agreed on the flavor.) One other observation; the seating is spaced right, but is a bit of function over form. The building and space itself was really neat, and I wish the tables, chairs, and stools matched the unique and funky architecture and paint. Still, if I lived in Rockford, I'd definitely support my local coffeeshops (including Wired) over Starbucks, and I can see the espresso issue being easily fixed once a new roaster is found. read more

This cute cafe serves up just what what you're looking for- great coffee, organic teas, and a perfect homemade bite to eat, all while you use their free Wi-Fi! Did I mention that the coffee is fab and food is homemade?! When we drove up, there was parking available out front and around the corner, which was great. Walking into the the cafe, it is spacious and clean, with nice wood floors. Their is a display case holding freshly baked goodies such as cupcakes, cakes, and I'm sure there is more but I was stuck on how good the cupcakes with the fresh strawberry frosting looked that I didn't see much else. When I finally made it to the counter to order, the drinks were actually written large enough to see and they are listed on a large chalk board above the huge espresso machine. I ordered a carmel macchiato, and it was excellently made by the barista. The foam was full and able to support the lattice carmel on top- impressive. They currently use Dillano's and Magnum beans for those that want to know. We also ordered a tea jasmine tea. They serve organic, two leaves and a bud, tea that comes in cool biodegradable sachets. When it comes to food, we ordered a slice of freshly baked quiche, and it was amazing! Although I love both coffee and tea, I would go back for the quiche alone. We also ordered a breakfast sandwich with sausage, egg and cheese topped with hollandaise sauce. This was good too (fresh and hot), but the quiche was magnificent. Looking around, there were fresh flowers are on the tables, and two country-style cases displaying two cool looking old coffee pots an old silver serving platter and some other wares. There is a wood table with fresh ice water for self-serve as well. Along the wall there are tall tables with bar stools, and there are regular table 4-top tables in the center, as well as two comfy leather chairs right near the storefront window. The bathrooms were CLEAN, too. Spick-and-span clean. Nice. I will definitely be going back when I am in town, especially because I was too full to try the cupcakes that looked so delicious. read more

On a quest to find a good coffee shop in Rockford we hit up Wired. We drug our feet through the door at 6:45am, hoping for a tasty latte. This place is inviting, cozy and the Barista was very nice. I loved the photos on the wall and the building's charm. Everything was set up for a yumtastic latte; they even sold almond milk....win! My hopes of decent espresso came crashing down with the first sip. I should have listen to the red flags; if a coffee shop doesn't display the brand of bean they use; there is a big chance it's not good, and they sold a brand of chai you can buy at a supermarket, a purple and yellow box, yuck. (please refer to a past review on my chai snobbery) Another tip espresso does not have to be over-whelmingly bitter. I have tasted espresso that was so smooth it reminded me of chocolate, others I have had, mixed so beautifully with a flavor it felt like a special treat. The iced vanilla almond milk latte I ordered at Wired tasted real close to a gas station coffee. I am one to suck down my iced drinks and this one is 1/4 gone about 30mins later, that saying a lot; I drink casey's gas station coffee sometimes, and I can make that crap disappear. Wired you are pretty close to having a fantastic shop, you should look at the product your selling; are you proud to make drinks with your biter old beans? Wouldn't it be nice for outsiders to come in and describe your lattes as special or, at the very least, good? read more

Every time I hear about somebody wasting their time at one of the chain coffee shops, I recommend Wired. What's not to love about a downtown, local coffee shop that supports live music and the visual arts, besides serving the best coffee in town? Crystal and her staff get to know their customers and treat them like family. All of their food selections are extremely good, from baked goods to soup to sandwiches and pizza. (The southwest turkey quesadilla special last week was a real standout!). Wired is a community hub in the heart of Rockford. Crystal posts flyers and cards for all the upcoming events and entertainment in town. It's a great place to relax, visit, and network. read more

Stopped here today for something to eat had their "best sandwich ever" I don't know if I'd say it was the best sandwich ever but it was pretty darn good. I also tried their macciato they served it with a heart in the foam. I don't know if the meant to do that but loved it so much I got another. I was skeptical of their house chips as they were made from rice and black beans and in my experience rice chips aren't that good. I was, however, pleasantly surprised, a bit spicy (which I like) they should serve them with salsa! Great place, relaxing, and just good everything I'd recommend it if you're ever downtown. read more

3.5, rounding down to 3. There's a lot to like about Wired. The food is good! The coffee is above average. The menu is big - surprisingly so - but it's confined to cafe fare one would expect. And the cookies are great. Food portions are reasonable. My wife, son, and I went here for lunch. I had a turkey wrap with bacon and swiss; my wife had nearly the same thing as a sandwich; my son had a peanut butter & apple wrap. The ingredients were all pretty good. The bacon on my wrap wasn't as crispy as I'd like, but all else was fine. One quibble is that my son's meal was to come with string cheese, but didn't. It did come with a large serving of yogurt, though, and he loved it. The space is pleasant. Seating is comfortable and it's definitely a place one could hang out for hours. The downsides here: this place makes no provisions for little kids. There are no high chairs nor booster seats! At all! Of course this means there aren't any changing tables in the bathrooms, either. But still - one high chair is all I ask. In summary: a bit above average. read more

My litmus test for any coffeeshop is their mocha. If I get to the bottom and I'm chugging chocolate chalk, I will not return. Wired, however, made me a mocha that was good to the last drop. Their space could use some work. I would much rather see them emphasize a common space with couches and coffee tables, but they instead have a couple easy chairs and a bevy of bar tables. People want to sit, relax, and enjoy a cup of coffee, and a high chair doesn't do it for me. Rockford has plenty of restaurants, what we need are more common spaces. read more

Everytime I serve them to customers they comment on how good the food was and ask where I got it.
