I've been going to the Wagon Wheel since I was 16 . The great, highly original decor (mounted game heads, taxidermy, vintage comic popular art prints) hasn't changed but has been selectively added to with art by locals. It's family friendly and has been a tradition for breakfasts, birthdays for many locals since it opened in 1937. It's also the best place in town for a sitting -at- the- bar drink and conversation. The food has varied over the decades (I'm now in my 70s) but I'm still a fan. The burger and Mexican food has remained primo. The bartenders are locals who most often know their customers and treat pretty much everyone like neighbors. Saturday Karoke nights are my favorite as unexpectedly talented residents take to the mic and change your image of them forever. I think the Wagon Wheel has been written up in the New York Times twice. As one of the last originals it deserves all the attention it gets. To go to Patagonia and not check out the Wagon Wheel Saloon is just a cryin' shame. read more

The Wagon Wheel Saloon in Patagonia is exactly what you hope to find when you're rumbling down a dusty Arizona highway: a genuine 100-year-old adobe-and-wood cowboy bar that looks like it hasn't changed since the 1940s (because it mostly hasn't). Dark beams, creaky floors, mounted longhorns, and a massive old Brunswick backbar that probably has more stories than half the regulars. Walking in feels like stepping onto a movie set, except the beer is cold and the people are real. The menu is refreshingly short: burgers, a couple sandwiches, green-chile stew, and usually a burrito or enchilada plate. Nothing fancy, but everything is made in-house and tastes like it. We were bummed they were 86'd on the beef burrito the day we went but the cheeseburger more than made up for it. Hand-formed patty, properly griddled with crisp edges, good cheddar, fresh toppings, and a toasted bun that held together. Fries were hot and salty. Service is friendly in that small-town "you're not a stranger for long" way. Prices are fair, the patio dogs are welcome, and there's live music on weekends that somehow never drowns out conversation. Bottom line: if you're anywhere near Patagonia, make the detour. Grab a stool at the ancient bar, order whatever they still have left, and soak in one of the most authentic saloons southern Arizona has left. read more

Came here for a drink before dinner. Did not dine here. Bartender was friendly. Old Fashioned was a bargain at $8 - a generous pour and tasted great- upgraded cherry garnish. Friend had a margarita and enjoyed it. Bartender said those are his two best drinks. Very rustic and weathered decor. read more

My party of 6 stopped here on our way back to Tucson around 6 PM on a Sunday for some drinks and food. The bartender immediately told us he would not serve us shots because he could tell we were all 'looking like we've had too much already'. I was stunned. 3 of the 6 of us had not even had ANY alcohol as we came in 3 separate cars. He said he would let us order 'one beer each and then he was cutting us off' Umm, excuse me?? I've never been so confused and attacked in my entire life. (I was one of the 3 that had not had any alcohol). We then asked if we could get a mixed drink which he agreed to which makes no sense to me but whatever. After serving us our beers/mixed drinks, he never asked if we wanted something to eat or anything. We asked why we could only have the one drink each and couldn't order food and he said 'we close at 7'. We said ok, and that we understood that. We paid for our drinks on one tab and left, albeit very discouraged and disappointed because I had been there before and told everyone that it was a great place with good food. Upon leaving I looked up the hours of service and it said they closed at 9 on Sundays. So, this guy obviously didn't want to 'work' and wanted us to leave for no reason. It was like he had it in for us the minute we stepped into the establishment. Very, very disappointed and kind of angry that my party was treated so harshly. Do better wagon wheel saloon because your bartender is the worst I've dealt with in a very long time. And you have lost money/business because of him. read more

The burger was the highlight of the visit. Portioned well, rich and meaty, with fresh toppings, and the fries were just tight. VERY lowkey establishment with a very eclectic local representation at the bar and behind it. Everyone seemed to know each other and having fun at each other's expense... I just tried to stay as background noise and enjoy my burger with Modelo Negra. It's a solid stop if you just need a quick bite and beer. Just don't sit at a table waiting for a waitress... counter service at the bar will get you there. read more

For the folks of Patagonia, please know this establishment does not respect combat disabled veterans, their families, or their service animals. On Tuesday, 7 April 2026, this establishment committed a Class 2 Misdemeanor by refusing service to a veteran, his family, and his service animal. The reason, they apparently didn't think the "dog was a registered Service Dog". Folks, there is no "registry" of service animals, nor can an establishment ask this question. Under the ADA and Arizona Statute A.R.S 11-1024, denial of access is a Class 2 misdemeanor. And, this establishment, and another in Patagonia, committed that crime. There are EXACTLY two questions that can be asked of a service animal handler. One, "is this animal required for a disability". The answer in this case was "yes". Two, "what specific task or tasks is the animal trained for". This question was answered. It's not funny, it's discrimination. Against a disabled veteran and his family. And it's illegal. If I were a Patagonian, I'd probably avoid this establishment. I mean, if they can't follow simple ADA and Arizona statutes, what else are they violating? Food safety rules? How would we know? When next in Sonoita I was going to visit Patagonia. Now I have no motivation to. In my personal opinion, protected by the First Amendment, this is not an establishment worth patronizing. Shame on the owner, who claims the dog wasn't "registered". Either you, your staff, or both broke the law. Wonder how that's going to work out? read more

Unfortunate experience with the owner last night. He mistakenly gave my card to another customer. When he gave me a napkin to write my info on I asked for a real piece of paper and he got pissy. Said something like hey, this is Patagonia, shit happens. Called twice with an idea. Nobody answered. Nobody returned my calls. Guess shit does happen in Patagonia. At the Wagon Wheel. This is an old saloon that was built in 1937. It's dark it has plastic red and white check table cloths. But it served a damn good burger. It's just another one of those small towns and it's one of the eateries and I would definitely go again not fancy but definitely OK. read more

Very Rude bartender. Says he is the Owner's brother in law. Sign on door says that no dogs are allowed, with exception of service dogs. I have a service dog, with identification. I was meeting my parents, father is a Vietnam veteran. When we started entering the establishment, the male bartender sharply said no dogs. I replied it is a service dog, i have identification. He replied "that's what you all say- you can sit outside, but there is no service out there". When I called to speak to the owner a day later, a woman proceeded to repeatedly tell of issues with other people. And when I indicated, that didn't have anything to do with me- she got rude also. I will tell all my friends, this place has toxic bartenders. Wouldn't want them making my food. read more

Apparently they are scheduled to open at 6:40am but note on the door said today it was noon. Luckily I arrived at 11:57 so didn't have to wait long. As others have said, this is a dive bar. I sat down at one of the booths put my stuff down and noticed the table was all crusty. Oh well, guess it adds to atmosphere. Ordered a diet coke and looked over the menu. Typically bar food. I ordered a Western Burger with fries. It was a bit slow but they had just opened up. The fries were nice and crispy and the burger was very nice. The ketchup, mustard, and mayo were obviously right out of the refrigerator, so that was nice. The burger was cooked just right and had a nice flavor. My late husband and I had eaten at the Wagon Wheel several times over 15 years ago after hiking in the area. We always sat at the bar, had a few beers each, and we'd order a burger. We always enjoyed talking to the locals. It's the only bar in town and it's on the main street through town, so this place can get busy once the sun sets. My last visit was earlier today, 4pm on a Saturday. An arts festival across the street was coming to an end, but it wasn't too busy when we walked in. We sat at a small table below the giant deer head. We both had a Barrio Blonde ($6.50). I had a delicious chicken enchilada platter ($14.35) and my friend had a cheese burger platter ($13.35). Service and food were good! The sun room was empty and no one was outside in the yard. I'm sure this place gets wild at night, but today's experience was very pleasant. read more

I love the Mexican food at this place. The waiter was helpful and funny. It is dive bar so don't set your expectations for atmosphere too high but the food did not disappoint. The waiter recommended that we try the chips and salsa, the chips are made when ordered. He said "the chips are served still screaming from the deep fryer," I will definitely order those next time-I have never had screaming tortilla chips lol. read more

I love this place! The hamburgers are great. Sometimes service may be a little slow because waitress and bartender are one and the same. The only time I've experienced a wait is when a group of guys who have been playing in the dirt in their atv's all day (so jealous ) show up all at once. It's also got that old western look. After being told "We are too busy to serve you " last year, we finally got a chance to eat here. Little did we know that last year's experience was a blessing in disguise. We arrived with two cars in the parking lot and 4 or 5 patrons in the building. Our server who was the bartender, waitress and cultural moderator fairly quickly brought us menus and water. The menus appeared to have been previously wadded up, placed in a pocket, and carried for days, before being somewhat flattened out and provided for customers use. I'm thinking optimistically about the stains absorbed into the menus. My "medium rare" steak was dark brown, inside and out. I see now why it took 45 minutes for our order to be prepared. It was tough, dry and devoid of flavor. I didn't send it back because I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes. To be fair, the French fries were slightly better than average. If you read other reviews, I suspect any reviews higher than three stars was from a relative or someone just rescued from years on a desert island. If I were to visit here again, I'd stick to a beer. read more

Severely understaffed at 5:30 PM on a Friday night. Seems as if the bartender was the only help in the restaurant. We asked for menus, and he told us he would get to us when he had a chance. To say he was extremely rude is an understatement. When one in our group hesitated, he said " I can't stand here all night, I have people to wait on." When one in our group asked about vegetarian options, he stated "try somewhere else, we don't cater to vegetarians" although there are salads, fries, coleslaw, etc. on the menu. A little old school brick building filled with ranching/cowboy paraphernalia. They've got a few good beers on tap and a full bar. The menu isn't anything exciting or interesting, but the food was well prepared. The BBQ beef sandwich looks like something out of a gas station, but was really tasty, the fries were good, and the wings were excellent. I'd give the place 5 stars just for having much better food than expected, but the service was exceptionally slow and inattentive. Definitely not a bad choice though. read more

We do think the place could stand a good cleaning, plus a good AC would be great. We were told they no longer serve breakfast so the sign out front and website and yelp should be changed. I was there on Saturday 10/12/24. I got yelled at by the bartender. Had barely sat down. I have traveled all over Europe and US and Mexico and can honestly say this is the worst I was ever treated at a restaurant. I have nothing in mind that even runs a second close. My friends and I would probably have dropped over $100 on meals and drinks but we were told" just get the hell out." We are very polite and friendly and by no means argumentative . 4 of us went to the Patagonia Music & Arts Fest on 10/12/24. After walking around for 4 hours with my arthritic ankle hurting, thermos out of water and 94 degrees, we went into the Wagon Wheel. Upon sitting down the bartender came up to our table and informed us that we could not have any carry ins. Then he said "as long as they are empty" The other 2 H2o bottles only had a few ounces left and were promptly emptied. The bartender then pointed toward the door and said " You can all leave, just get out" We could have just put the bottles on the floor or put them behind the bar until we left. This place is very .....dive bar...but that is it's charm. The staff are friendly....the ambiance is ....eclectic. I will say order bottled beer as the draft beer tasted stale. I am guessing certain taps do not get used much. Would I go again?...YOU BET! Had been here a few years ago while out on the motorcycle and needed to get out of the house so off we went. This is a very old place with cool stuff hanging all around. I had the Sonora hot dog with fries and my love had a chimichunga with shredded beef no sides. My dog was huge, loaded with all the normal stuff and had tons of flavor. The fries were crispy bit tender inside also lots of flavor. Bobbies chimichunga had good flavor and a crispy fried tortilla on the outside. Don't expect fine dining if you come here, it's a dive bar at the end of a cool drive/ride through the mountains. But it's an awesome dive bar! read more

RUDE. SERVICE IS NONEXISTANT. We had never been to this place, we were passing through and saw it. We sat down and waited for service. More than twenty minutes later we were not served or even acknowledged. The bartender saw us sitting there, he was working and serving others, but he never made the time to come to our table. He never acknowledged us or anything, not even saying something like "I'll be with you in a minute." We were hungry and got tired of waiting, so we got up and started to leave. As we were walking out the bartender suddenly called out at us and said "Impatient, are we?? This isn't a fast food place!!" What a total jerk. I get that places like this can get busy, and maybe they were short-staffed, but there is absolutely no excuse for him to have been so rude to us simply because we chose to leave. I don't know if he owns the place, if he does he is driving it into the ground with his childish rudeness. Went in the other day when it was pouring outside and really cold. Asked for a hot drink and was told they didn't have anything hot right now. Seriously?! Got the fish and chips and couldn't have been more disappointed. Microwaved square fish patties that had zero flavour. Coleslaw was good, however and so were fries.
