The collards were well seasoned, the cornbread was huge, the slaw was slaw (though nothing to write home about, it's hard to make slaw that's worth writing about), and the chicken was well breaded, not overcooked, and still kinda crunchy despite its steam bath. I might have had the southern fried chicken plate the first time too, come to think of it... it's just impossible to find well done Southern food in the west, so I can't pass it up! The patio has nice seating options including a couple coveted tables in the shade. They are all pretty huge picnic tables so you may end up sharing if it's busy, but that's kinda the vibe here. There are dog water bowls and ice water for the pups in the summertime. Regarding vibes, it's right up my alley with servers rocking hairy armpits and tattoos all over the place. Something that has surprised me, however, is that small children are allowed to run around the bar. If you're looking for a delicious brunch menu at 10:30 AM on a Sunday the De Soto lounge is the place to be. Just don't be that guy that brings their kids.

Service was excellent and the server couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We weren't particularly hungry so we ordered an order of hot wings and the ahi tuna appetizer. The wings were large, juicy and cooked perfectly. We give the wings a 5 out of 5. They were accompanied by an interesting twist on the celery, thin slices that tasted like it had been soaked in lemon juice. Excellent. But the ahi was another matter. The presentation was excellent - unique and interesting - and it was served with a nice selection of different sauces streaked along the plate. A miniscule serving of chopped ahi was served atop 6 deep fried squares of sweet rice measuring about 1.5 inches on a side. The concept was really clever but the rice was so overcooked it was a solid wad of paste; the ahi on top of each small square of rice was good but was skimpy, to say the least - smaller than a teaspoon of chopped fish on each rice square. I doubt the total amount of ahi would have filled a shot glass. We give the presentation a 5 but the quality and quantity a 3.
