My most recent experience here was dinner on the patio. This is a better location than the Sunset Terrace to see the sunset. My visit was great here except for the hostess forgetting to seat me, so that might have something to do with the table I got, as I had the perfect view. I had a fabulous waitress as well. She had a great personality and made sure that I had everything I needed, and kept checking in and refilling my beverage. She even brought me a birthday chocolate cake slice. Unfortunately, by the time I ate here, I did not have much of an appetite. So I just had the pretzel bread and a salad. I did get cheesecake to go, but that wasn't good at all. I should have ordered the mango dessert again. Both restaurants had identical desserts. The pretzel bread came pre-cut into smaller pieces and made them easier to dip into either the mustard or cheese sauce. I kept changing my mind to which I liked better, so they were both good. I did really enjoy the salad as well. It had a variety of greens and veggies and just the right amount of dressing. Restaurant salads are always better than those I make myself. The cheesecake was prepared to go, so I could try it later, but it wasn't like a traditional cheesecake, and I didn't like the consistency or texture. Make sure you make reservations here. read more

Come for the ambiance, you could probably pass on the food. The highlight of the menu is the shrimp and grits. It was perfectly spicy and well seasoned. The pappardelle ragu was better than your run of the mill pasta, but the value is questionable. The chicken sandwich was not even close to spicy but the bread was soft and the chicken crispy. The burger was incredibly lack luster and just tasted like a Wendy's burger. The mixed spring green salad was completely wilted and the cut veggies dried out as if they had been sitting out for 10 hours. The true nightmare was the men's bathroom. War zone doesn't even describe it. While this is on the hotel, the restaurant is owned and operated by the same people, and that is where you are directed. I cannot disregard how disgusting it was. It was not even a busy day when we attended. The too close seating coupled with the subpar food quality and the disgusting bathrooms result in a lower rating. read more

We dined at the Edison a few weekends ago while visiting the Omni Grove Park Inn and had a great experience! We had been two years ago while staying at the Omni, but I don't believe I left a review. This time around it was my husband and I, our toddler, and my parents while vacationing in Asheville. The Edison is an upscale sports bar and restaurant, with plenty of cozy indoor and outdoor space, fireplaces, and TVs to watch your favorite games! Our server, Michael, was attentive and incredibly friendly! The hosts were also lovely. We did have a reservation but needed a big space and requested to sit in front of a specific NFL game. They were very accommodating with this. They have a fairly extensive menu and nice wine/beer list. We shared a few dishes: Pulled Pork Sliders, Deviled Eggs, Chicken Tenders, Wings, Joyce Farms Roasted chicken, and a Grilled Cheese with fruit and fries for our girl. The sliders were so amazing; we actually tried these in the lounge before to dining at Vue 1913 two nights prior. The deviled eggs, also amazing. We are big fans of trying various deviled eggs while dining out and these were yummy! These were served with Pickles & Sorgham Bacon jam. The Applewood Smoked Chicken Wings were the winner of this dining experience and were some of the best we've ever had with crispy skin; super flavorful and perfectly cooked! I was still hungry so went with the Roasted Chicken entrée. I wanted to love it, but unfortunately, it was overcooked. I didn't want to send it back, but for $30+ I feel chicken should be cooked perfectly. Michael was incredibly understanding about this. Chicken Tenders were on point and our girl loved her meal. First things first...the food was incredible! We started with the pimento spread and the brussel sprouts. Both were great but my fave was the pimento spread - warm and bubbly with pickled jalapenos. My hubby ordered the Caesar salad with blackened chicken and it was very good - but seriously, what can you do wrong with a Caesar salad. I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was some of the best that I've ever had...this is an item I often order in the south so I have tried it lots of places. The kids' menus were better than typical - think salmon, not just chicken tenders (although that was an offering). We finished with the nutella brownie and ice cream - to die for! Our server, Reese, was fabulous. Attentive but not pushy. Left items on the table that were appropriate and cleared what needed to be cleared. We were sat right next to the large windows and even though it was foggy, we loved where we were sitting. We will definitely eat here again as it was one of the best meals we have had in Asheville and we have had many a meal in that wonderful city! Edison, with its incredible views, contemporary style, and cozy fireplace, is visually stunning. Service is consistently top-notch. My kale salad was both gorgeous and tasty, I must admit, even though I can't stand kale. Meatless choices tend to be limited here, so I really appreciate the addition of a vegan/vegetarian bratwurst, adorned with wonderful goodies and served on a pretzel bun. While I get the idea of a pretzel bun for the brat, it was very heavy without adding significant flavor, dulling the goodness of the other components and diminishing the success of the dish. The fries, though, were fantastic. The good 'ol GPI is, sadly, not what it used to be. The new owner, money-grubbing corporate behemoth Omni, has banished the community from the spa. And they treat us like garbage when we attempt to view the gingerbread houses at Christmastime - trying to get onto the property during the event, you may be told "we are full, try back later," even though inside sources subsequently debunk that false narrative. And if you're somehow able to get in, you'll find jacked-up parking fees during the holidays - a strident, ugly example of opportunistic price-gouging at its worst. read more

We chose Edison for our birthday gal's dinner because of the more "casual" atmosphere, open air dining room, spectacular view, and space. Unfortunately, Edison had an off night. Jess, our server, was overwhelmed when we were seated. As the tables/section emptied and guests left, we were left on our own to communicate our needs to/with the floor managers and expos. After the expo meal delivery, we finished our entire meal before Jess checked on us. Other ball drops included keeping the check away from the birthday girl and delivering the signed check (ourselves) to the server station. Food was subpar; at this price point ($400+ for 5 people), we expect better quality food, more flavor, and attentive service. The bolognese, mushroom pasta, steak, and meatloaf quality (and flavor) fell well below the price point. Our group agreed that the wings were the best dish. We travel to Asheville a few times per year (business, leisure, and/or spa), may sit at the Edison bar (instead), and give Edison another chance. read more

Great service and ambiance, but a limited menu and drinks so strong you will be glad you're not driving anywhere. The Fried Green Tomatoes were chef-kiss!!! The Asheville Hot Chicken Sandwich was good and the fresh crunchy pickles made it. The Salmon dish was not the best Salmon dish I have ever had. In fact I've had much better. It was the parsnip - tomato medley in a lemon sauce that fell short, not the actual grade of Salmon (The Salmon itself was great, it was the flavors of the dish that was a let down). The Grove Park Inn really needs to work on the cocktails. I have tried several different bars at the resort and they all could peel paint!!! I showed up at the time of my reservation, and I was told to have a seat because they were trying to seat others that had missed their appointed time. I sat and waited, but I was ignored. I finally told them that I had a reservation and I want to be seated. I was seated beside a dead fly in the window sill!! My food was cold. The server took it back to the kitchen, and when it was returned, it was a little warm. The meal tasted horrible, and after a few bites I felt ill. I will NEVER return to this restaurant. Edison is just not it sadly. I love love love this hotel, the Omni Grove park but their restaurants are just not it. Staff was not the nicest and overall just not helpful and seemed like they didn't want to serve us. I wanted to love my meatloaf, which is a popular item and seemed very good but it was so dry. Even with the BBQ sauce it was hard to get down. Don't waste your money here. The view over the mountains is neat but you should just drive into town a bit and look up some highly rated restaurants. read more

An Omni disappointment. Was 15 minutes late for our reservation and they wouldn't give us a table even though we called 12 times and no one answered or the call didn't get through and hostess proceeded to try and tell us we didn't give proper notice... I understand a stern deadline but zero hospitality from the host was cold and rude. Not an Omni attitude. Her long curly hair hid her name tag on purpose I think. Next we just sat at the bar and they were short staffed during one of their busiest days of the year and Butch took our orders but then completely forgot to take one our one friends order and when he finally did it took 10+ minutes to give her her drink (we noticed people ordering after her and getting theirs sooner) but we understand how much stress it must have been with being one of the only bar people on staff at the time. If that all wasn't enough the food was terrible. The Brussel sprouts and pretzels were ok and the ranch was the highlight of the meal. The burger was so raw and cold in the center and the fried had ZERO SALT. It was such a waste of $20. The Strawberry Fields drink tasted like the strawberry aspect went bad. Bad service and bad food is always a bad combo. The ambiance was killed after having terrible service. Wouldn't eat here again if they paid me. read more

This restaurant is really good. We were a group of a dozen hungry hikers. My friends ordered Smash Burger, Bison Meatloaf, Salmon, and Salads. Everyone enjoyed their meal. My choice was the hanger steak special cooked medium rare with arugula potato salad as a side. It was great. Peach cobbler for desert was just OK. Little pricey but seemed reasonable for this historic property. The views are very nice here. Great stone walls line the place which are beautiful to look at, but are bad for hearing as the sound bounces off them. This is located in Grove Park Inn which is definitely worth a look around, especially the massive fireplaces. Three hours complementary parking. The view from the restaurant is incredible and we stayed for the sunset and got some awesome pictures! Located on the Omni Grove Park Inn property, this alehouse is worth visiting for the stunning views. For starters, parking is super easy. It is also free for the first 3 hours. I would give yourself enough time during your visit to explore a bit of the property. Edison's is off to the left when you enter the Inn. It is a very large space, with open air design. There is a large bar area on one side and plenty of seating scattered throughout. The menu is a bit pricey for what it offers, but you are paying for the atmosphere and views. The pimento cheese bread was absolutely delicious -- it is also large enough for two people to split comfortably. For entrees we tried the grilled chicken sandwich and smash burger. I was skeptical of coming here because I'm usually skeptical of hotel restaurants in general as they're usually overpriced (only mildly true) and the food isn't good (completely not true). The food was delicious! Of course, you should come here if not just for their amazing outdoor space (hopefully, you don't come here and eat indoors) as the patio is covered, there's heaters, and a huge fireplace. The view is absolutely stunning! As for the service, that was good. The food, delicious. I highly recommend the pork belly. In fact, don't miss it. We went here for dinner during our trip in Asheville. I've been to the Vue, but this time we went for less formal. Our service was exceptional, and our server was friendly and on point any time we needed anything. We started off with the Thai beef lettuce wraps. Very tasty! Our server warned us they were a bit messy, so she brought bigger sharing plates and wet wipes. I thought they would be pre-rolled wraps but understood the messy part when they were brought out. Time to make your own! I recommended them to another guest at the bar that night after they were thinking of getting the wraps. The beer selection was decent & my Jack & coke was definitely not on the light side. Props to the bartender. Next on to Edison Butter Butter Chicken, it was very nice and had great flavor! I think it could have used a little more seasoning personally, but it was still really good. The Naan bread was a little on the dryer side but not terrible. And last the Seared Salmon. The portion of the salmon was nice, and being asked how we liked the salmon cooked was great. The sides, though, were a little skimpy. I would have liked more for that plate. While staying at the Omni Grove Inn we decided to give place a try. The decor with the fireplaces outside was a real draw. Very cozy and makes you want to sit down and chill while enjoying drinks and the fabulous October weather temps (53 degrees this evening). Something on the menu for everyone and very tasty as well. You really need to see about reservations or you might get turned away. We were seated straight away and our waiter was extremely enthusiastic, helpful, funny and really knew his job. We started with Elk Cove Pinot noir and began our eating adventure (pictures to follow). Tried several times to give this another chance but unfortunately it's just a bad experience. Starting with hostess. Rude. Hateful. Doesn't the management monitor these people at all? It's sees the tone for the experience and it went downhill from there. I made a special reservation and requested patio. Denied. No explanation just no. Then I was told that even with a reservation it is first come first serve. Kinda defies a reservation. We are locals and every time we have guests visit we try to take them here. Never, ever, again.
