She is a wonderful and patient instructor and even designed the class so that you have the chance to practice each step beforehand. She also explains the basic chemistry and history behind the techniques and tools, which provides more appreciation and context for each step. We got to do every step ourselves with her expert eye and guidance. Overall the experience was so easy and fun, and our rings are beautiful and comfy besides being one of a kind! I cannot say enough good things about Stephanie and about With These Rings. Two things immediately stood out to us about her: the quality of her work, and her forthrightness. Right on her website, she'll show you the process of ring-making, the prices of the different metals, and what to know about how certain metals like palladium sterling silver will wear over time. She was very prompt and responsive to all of our questions. That forthrightness continued right into the ring-making process itself. Stephanie is a great teacher: she's incredibly patient and kind, and makes good on her promise not to let you mess up, but that doesn't mean she'll take it over for you. She shows you the steps and will help you out if you have trouble, but you really are putting the work into the ring yourself, and more likely than not you'll have fun at the same time. We are so incredibly happy with our rings we made one summer afternoon with Stephanie. The experience meant so much to us on so many levels that it's probably impossible to fully express our gratitude and satisfaction. We had both been so nervous about the workshop (we're each sort of crafty in our own ways, but had never done anything like this) because it was new and we felt the pressure of doing something we'd never done before - and knowing that we'd be wearing the result of for the rest of our lives! They were very communicative with me beforehand and my ring came out more perfect than I ever could have imagined. We made our wedding bands in May for our June 14th wedding. We arguably cut it a little close, but Stephanie was more than happy to help (and accommodate our last minute-ness), and the result is perfect. Having shopped around a little bit with a pretty specific gold band in mind, we kept finding the same pricing out of our range and the same slimy jewelry megabrands we wanted nothing to do with. It seemed like we were going to end up either settling for something generic, overpriced and unsustainable, or hit the pawn/ antique market and hope for the best. I came across With These Rings in a flyer for a Vintage Wedding show in Fremont and immediately fell in love with the idea. Once I had the pricing and an idea of the process, I was sold. My husband was arguably even more excited about the whole thing than I was! Our workshop lasted around 5 hours including a lunch outing (thanks, Stephanie!). I think we were both waiting for the curtain to be pulled back to reveal that we wouldn't actually be doing most of the ring making ourselves -- but that never happened. By the end of it all, it felt like a hard day's work. We sawed, hammered, soldered, filed, hammered some more, filed a lot more, and scrubbed eachother's rings to perfection. She said she could either make the rings herself and ship them to us, or we could go to her workshop and make the rings ourselves with her guidance. I was really surprised by the reasonable price. I would have expected custom-made rings and an in-studio experience with a jeweler to be far out of my reach budget-wise. Husband and I live in LA, but we've always wanted to visit Seattle, so I decided to make it a surprise weekend trip for my husband. Stephanie worked with me through email in perfecting the designs before our workshop day. When we arrived, she had everything prepared, with several options for us to choose from depending on how hands-on we felt comfortable getting. The whole experience took about 5 hours. We got treated to lunch at midday and champagne when we finished. Stephanie is cool, laid-back, and a comfortable person to spend an entire day with even if you start out as strangers. She's also a great, very natural-seeming teacher. She always knew just when to step in and help out to make sure we wouldn't be going home with misshapen golden figure-8s instead of rings. Neither my husband nor I had any experience working with precious metals or jewelry-making tools, but on the whole I'd rate the experience a 3/10 in terms of difficulty. Our gold bands were pretty simple, and we never felt discouraged or overwhelmed at all. The finished product turned out gorgeous! The gold is rich and beautiful and the rings more or less look professionally-made, but they lack that flat, mass-produced look that some bands have. We had such a good time making our rings. !!We made our rings!! What an incredible memory we will wear every day. As a high school teacher I can really see that Stephanie is a great teacher- guiding us so that we could do each part almost entirely by ourselves.
