I have been meaning to write a review for sometime now and was gently reminded this morning at starbucks, when yet again, another kind stranger commented on how awesome my haircut was. I have been seeing Christian for almost 2 years now, both at the river north location and now the west loop. I can simply say he is the best in the business. He is thoughtful and knowledgeable and I really trust him when it comes to suggestions and what will look best. I also appreciate the kind staff who help me when I check in and out. Can't say enough good things about Hair Loft! I go to Amorette at the West Loop location (but I believe she takes clients at both locations). Amorette is incredibly talented and an amazing listener. She took all of my hair wants/needs into consideration and gave me the best color I have ever had. Initially, I got a partial highlight and for my follow-up I got a mini highlight. She also did a cut which looked great too. The first time I came in I was super energetic- Amorette and the surrounding stylists were talkative and provided great conversation. During my second visit, I was randomly exhausted and could barely keep myself from falling asleep in the chair- Amorette was still extremely friendly but let me relax in peace during the service. She did a great job of gauging the situation both times and provided the perfect amount of engagement for me as her client. She was also really quick which I appreciated so much- I get crazy anxious when I feel like I've signed half my day away for hair color. Furthermore, she gave me great tips and suggestions for caring for my hair between appointments. Her advice included product recommendations, but I never felt like she tried to push products or talk me into services I couldn't afford to keep up with. Overall, Hair Loft was great and I really recommend trying them for your next beauty appointment! read more

I've been here twice- once for a cut and a color and cut. Both times I've had amazing and friendly service. Christian did an 8 inch cut the first time and was so helpful making my dreams a reality! My second time I went for a cut and color with the owner of the salon and he did a great job. I'm always worried getting color that it will be either too bold or not noticeable enough and he nailed it!! It was great to have an in-depth conversation as well- you can tell he is so dedicated and he cares about the person he is styling and the success of a salon. HUGE shout out to Amorette! I came in for a hair cut today, running late due to a major delay on the train, and they were so accommodating and understanding. When I got there she took her time to analyze my hair and communicate with me about what it was I wanted. I'm pretty new to taking care of my hair/professional salons in general, so I had a lot of questions, and she gave me a full on lesson in dry shampoo, shampooing...anything I asked she was gracious enough to answer. Hannah is my stylist and she's great. I particularly love the head message when she shampoos my hair. Very relaxing. I'm one of those annoying people who don't know what to do with my thin, white, short hair and she always seems to know what to do in spite of my vagueness. Awesome place. Lots of space. I was very disappointed by the quality of my haircut in what I assumed to be a high-end salon. :( I chose the lowest priced haircut and therefore the least experienced stylist, but I hoped that at $60 I could be confident that I was getting excellent service. While my stylist was nice, I feel very unhappy with the work that was actually done on my hair. I specified that I wanted a simple trim and to redo my long layers. Now, maybe I should have specified what I meant by long layers - not referring to the length of the hair, but rather to the relative height of the layers - but this is how my prior stylists referred to this style for years, and something I assumed she would know. What resulted was the exact opposite of what I was looking for, with my layers all but disappearing. She did shorten them more when I asked, but the result was very far from the dramatic layers I had hoped for. Additionally, my face frame is very uneven and throughout the haircut I felt like my hair was being brushed with too much pressure, creating discomfort. I am so disappointed that I paid such a hefty price for this experience, and I will not be returning. read more

I am in love.....with Christian! First I have to say I had been looking for a stylist who'd understand what my hair needed. I have curly, mature hair and lots of it! I had been jumping around from stylist to stylist and not one made me happy. When I finally decided to try Christian he really took the time to understand what I wanted my hair to look like. The workers have a hard time following simple direction. Very amateur and unprofessional. If you're not content for their Instagram page you're screwed because they can't get anything out of you. It's been a month but I still can't get over how badly the colorist damaged my hair (see photos). And while my experience there was great and I left so happy, it wasn't until I washed my hair the next week that I noticed all the breakage. Now, excuse my naïveté but I honestly didn't know what I was looking at when I first saw it. And the colorist also cut and styled my hair in such a way that I didn't notice it until I personally got my hands on it (I won't even get into how she straightened my hair with a flat iron, which is unusual and probably further damaged my hair). I've been bleaching my hair for almost a year now and had never experienced damage. Dryness, yes. A lack of luster, sure. But this... this is every women's nightmare. The only way I can explain my reaction was that I went into shock and a bit of denial. I honestly didn't know how to process what I was looking at every time I styled my hair. I reached out to the colorist via instant message and explained what I was seeing asked her if she had noticed my hair breaking while she was washing it. She replied and apologized for my hair not being what I wanted, and said I could call the salon and get a refund. Her immediate response that I get a full refund was an overwhelming admission of guilt, in my opinion. So I called the salon and the women who responded said she had been made aware of the situation and proceeded to lecture me about how hair breakage can be a normal part of the coloring process and that I should look into protein building products like Olaplex. I responded that I had been using Olaplex the entire time I have been dyeing my hair blonde, and that I again had never experienced breakage. Plus, I had asked that the colorist use Olaplex #1 and 2 during the appointment! I was begrudgingly given the refund AND was asked if I still wanted to keep my next appointment- are.you.serious?? And yes, while I got my money refunded (mind you, it didn't include the 20% tip I had added because I thought the appointment went well) the breakage is so bad, so noticeable, that the monetary value given back in no way balances the irreparable damage to my hair and the trauma and stress of what I'm dealing with now. This is truly a nightmare that I'm reliving every time I look at myself in the mirror. I can't style my hair without the broken hairs sticking up every which way, and no, putting oil on them won't keep them down. I know I will have to live with it until it grows out, but I had to get this off my chest. read more

This salon nails it on all fronts! Friendly staff, great atmosphere and most importantly quality stylists that listen to what you want! Lexi has cut my hair twice now and I couldn't be happier! I have a ton of thick wavy/curly hair that any stylist can make look beautiful but it is really hard to manage by myself at home. Lexi was so thoughtful in the questions she asked me about my hair routine and gave me a cut that I could style quickly! Not only was the hair cut great but she gave me a ton of tips on styling and even taught me how to get perfect waves with a flat iron. It sounds crazy but I left feeling empowered! I was so nervous to find a new hairstylist since moving to Chicago in December. I had an amazing stylist in Grand Rapids that I had been seeing for the better part of a decade, but unfortunately I couldn't take her with me. I spent hours looking on Google, Yelp and Instagram for a stylist reasonably close by with consistently high ratings that wasn't way more expensive than what I had been paying before. My split ends were REALLY bad because it was over 6 months since my last cut. My hair was webbing and sticking together so much I could barely braid it. I'm so happy I found Justine!!! She was very warm and welcoming and made me feel completely at ease. I showed her some pictures and she clarified what I wanted and asked great questions, like if I wanted the layers long enough to be pulled back into a ponytail. She took off 2-3 inches and somehow my hair looks longer than it did before? It looks and feels so much healthier with the scraggly sad ends gone. While we were chatting she mentioned she has over 12 years of experience with hair and it really showed through both her care and confidence. I really appreciated that my appointment took a full hour so she could really take her time and be thorough with every step. In Grand Rapids I was always in and out of the salon in 30 minutes flat, so having a full hour in the salon felt extra luxurious and honestly as it should be. The vibe inside was very cute and nice and I could definitely see myself popping in to grab a drink and do some work at the bar. I have dark brown hair and have been wanting to get highlights for a while but had been feeling nervous about going lighter while still having a natural look. I went to see Lexi and expressed my concerns to her, not just about the color, but also about desperately needing a trim without losing too much length. Kayla is the best. I ended up getting an appointment with her a few years ago when the salon was suggested by a friend, and I was so lucky to get her! She always listens to how I want my hair cut and how much time I spend on it a day at home (like 3 min) and works with me to get a great low-maintenance look, everyone wants to know where I get my hair cut! I followed her from the River North location and would follow her anywhere. She is fun, smart, and incredibly talented. This is a really cool place to get your hair done! Its very clean and open, the staff is super friendly. I was fortunate enough to have Christian do my hair - color and mini highlight - and I was thrilled with the turn out. The color was perfect. This is the first time I've come across a salon willing to do a mini highlight (around the face) instead of a partial. I love having this option in between, when you don't really need the anything more than the front. Christian is very professional and a really nice guy. He deserves all of the high reviews he gets, and is highly recommended from me as well. The salon also offers coffee, tea, sodas & waters (complimentary) and has not ONLY wi-fi, but a long table in the middle of the salon with OUTLETS!
