the sushi is decently-priced. The combos come with miso soup, which is a little better than instant, but not too spectacular. I tried the spicy roll combo (a roll of spicy salmon, spicy tuna and spicy california roll) for $14.95; it was adequate but only one of the roll's fish quality and texture impressed me. Personally I don't think they should mince their sushi fish that much If you're trying to get filled with decently-tasting sushi for $15, then you will be satisfied. Not necessarily impressed, but satisfied. I did look at their Chinese menu, but I didn't order anything from it, because nothing looked that spectacular -- I think you would get a similar quality across the road for a lower price. read more

Although I no longer favor myself with any Chinese restaurants in Chinatown because their worst service (at least Full Kee gave me one), but there I was, sitting at Wok and Roll; well, actually I was craving for the sushi. It was pretty good, the sushi was not as delicious as I thought it would be, but it was good. The chinese food was good too, but a bit pricy for chinese food in china town. I could have gone to a chinese place around the corner for a lot cheaper with the same accomodations (not much decoration or anything too special, the outside looks like any other chinese place where i can get a whole dinner for 7 instead of 12 was not anything spectacular and the staff are pretty disorganized. Very much enjoyed our meal at Wok and Roll. After several very "iffy", "iffy to the Nth degree" and "just don't ask iffy", meals in the Chinatown area we decided to give it one more chance. We chose this location mainly because we had just seen Conspiracy on DVD and this very building was Surratt's bordering house. Cooky? weird? Whatever, we had to choose somehow. Walking in the place it was nice enough. It was clean. There were three couples and a large family eating. There was a sushi chef and sushi bar in the rear. Overall it had a nice positive eating atmosphere to it. The waitstaff was quick to every task. The different courses came right on time. Starving and curious we chose appetizers, meals and a couple veggie rolls. The egg rolls were average enough, no raves, no complaints and the crabmeat wontons were good even though the girlfriend thought they were too crunchy. The cucumber and avocado rolls were awesome. We loved the nori that W&R uses. The taste and texture was perfect. For main courses we got tofu versions of General Tso and Kung Po. We liked them both. The tofu had nice texture, not soft but slightly crispy. We asked for less spicy, but after tasting it we wished it had a little more zip. The favors were very tasty. The prices were fair and we'll definitely be returning. It's quite comforting knowing that we now have a GO-TO Chinese place to eat at while attending events at Ted's house around the corner. read more

Ok, I know I'm an idiot for ordering sushi in a Chinese restaurant, but that's what I did. And it was exactly what you'd expect for sushi from a Chinese restaurant: pretty crappy. They flavors weren't really balanced, and one type of fish was a sort of....ground fish-product. The fish equivalent of bovine pink slime. A new experience. If I visit this restaurant again, it will be for good ol' Americanized Chinese food. read more

Was looking for sushi in DC and found this place on Groupon. We were able to use two Groupon which was amazing. We had sunset, hawaiin, and California roll. They were amazing. The waitress was a bit rushed but other than that the service was great. And with those Groupon how can I give this place less than a 5. Will definitely return here, Groupon or not. I picked up wok n roll for a late dinner. I've been a few times and it's always been fine. I took my food back to my office. In my first bite of chicken I crunched down on something. I spit it out expecting to find a bone or some gross chicken part. Instead, I was greeted by a massive eggshell. I sifted through the rest of the chicken to find more eggshells. I called the restaurant just to let them know, but the woman on the phone didn't speak much English and hung up on me. On my way home, I walked by wok n roll and stopped in. I figured I would let a manager know that the sesame chicken might be compromised. I spoke to 3 different employees who claimed not to know what/who the manager was. They didn't refund me or offer me another meal. Now it's 10 pm and most places are closed and am left with a burned tongue (HOT chicken) and an empty belly. read more

I order takeout from here a lot. It is very good! Would definitely recommend. Ordered shrimp tempura roll and egg rolls. I've gotten the tuna rolls before and prefer that over the shrimp tempura roll but both are good. Eggs rolls were awesome though. I hope Yelp doesn't take down this review. read more

This is the worst karaoke bar/resturant I have ever been to. The staff is rude, aaking patrons to top in cash because they charge a 5% fee for credit cards. There is no sign anywhere asking for cash tips. They will not you in your reserved room umtil the person that reserved the room is there, then they kick you out 1.5 hours inti your reservation. Stopped into the historical Surrat House building and ate at some pretty good Chinese food. The food and service we're good and the company was great. The kids didn't know about the smells but they all tried something for the first time and overall the food was good. We had the Combination Lomein, Kung Pao Shrimp and Chicken and the General Tso's Chicken with Egg Rolls and Hot and Sour Soup. The egg rolls were hot and crunchy but not too hot to eat and the soup was perfect. The food portions were big but not too much for a lunch portion. Overall I would say they are good for lunch and probably take out but if you are looking for a more intimate place with white table cloths this is not for you, but I will recommend it for anyone. read more

I came into here with a girlfriend since I had one of the $40 for $20 deals-- I chose sushi as the main dish, while she had chosen Chinese entree. The restaurant does not look like much from the outside but I was pleasantly surprised upon entering. I had chosen a couple of rolls plus an appetizer to split while my friend had cashew chicken- we were both extremely happy with the dishes. The lower rating goes because of the service- we had multiple waitresses that came in and out then disappeared, and the dishes all came out at different times- something that personally irritates me because you are either awkwardly eating without your dining-partner or a dish is getting cold waiting.....personal preference. I would typically give this a little bit of higher rating if it wasn't for the service- but other than that I thought the quality was good, the location is ideal right near the metro, and one of the better sushi places I have found in downtown. read more

This review is only for my delivery experience. I ordered the spicy shrimp roll and a combination fried rice and ended up paying a lot more than I thought was reasonable for the amount of food that was delivered. Aside from the price, the sushi was very very good. The rice was just okay but the deliver man got her quickly and everything was hot. He was very polite! We order sushi from them regularly and LOVE their tiger shrimp roll and the dynamite roll. Delivery is quick (and free) and they always call before they arrive so our dogs don't go crazy and wake the baby. Ordered food for this place last night... After looking at the mixed reviews from Yelp, Grubhub, and Google I decided to give them a try. I really should have stayed with my first intention and went to bed hungry... The beef/chicken/shrimp fried rice had NO FLAVOR! The rice wasn't even fried... More like white rice that was cooked once or twice. It was still soft. The best part was the egg roll. Thank God for that. Before leaving the store I asked the lady for soy/hot sauce. She told me I had some in the bag. Yes, she was correct BUT I had one soy and 1 duck to get me through a WHOLE container of rice and two egg rolls.... Once again I was sad ! My family and I just left Wok & Roll on Hst in Chinatown. Walking in service started off great and my husband had been coming to the restaurant years! We had a party of 8 and ordered Sushi, windings and a egg roll for an appetizer. Our experience took a turn when our entrees arrived, our Chicken & and broccoli with rice contained a live maggot! Management was notified and the my apologized. I look up and also noticed mold on the ceiling where we were seated. I'll never dine at wok & roll again. Would not recommend this place to anyone unless one is desperate... We were visiting DC area ad decided to give this place a try for lunch. It was blackfriday and place was pretty empty. We were given fried wontons while waiting for our orders. Kids loved eating so asked for refill. Server said they can give only one per table which is a very small portion for four. Nevertheless she gave us a refill but my daughter saw hair in it... It was replaced but who knows. Second, my wife asked for hot tea as it was a cold day. When we got our bill, they charged us $2.75 for it...really?? And last but not least, they added 18% gratitude for four of us and asked another tip on top of it! Double dipping??? If you are Black, you don't belong here! Not only did we have to ask for water but we had to practically beg for menus. We realized everyone that was not black was immediately greeted and provided water and menus. I'm assuming the servers were thinking we would just get up and walk out. My husband and I literally got off a plane, traveled with family in town and were looking for late night eats close to our house in dc. Unfortunately, we chose Wok and Roll. I would not recommend this place regardless of the food. It was mediocre Chinese food as far as I'm concerned. When we were ready to close our tab, they gave us the tab of the other table with black people cause we "of course we all look alike". I was totally disappoint and we purposely did not tip. We normally tip very well regardless of service but it was clear we weren't wanted. My rating on this place would be ZERO stars and I would advise anyone to patron this place. I really appreciate restaurants that offer a mix of different cuisines especially when they can do each of them well. Their Philadelphia Roll (smoked salmon and cream cheese only) was good and the tuna, salmon, and yellowtail nigiri all tasted fresh. Happy hour is from 5-8pm and a good selection of nigiri is available at $1.25 per piece. A few of their bottled beers are about $1.50 cheaper than the regular menu price during happy hour also. Their Chinese food is also very good. The waitress recommended the sautéed spinach with garlic as one of the best vegetable dishes; I'd say it was the best dish we ordered. It's in a light sauce and though it's regular spinach, it's completely different from how you'd be able to prepare it at home. The stir-fried sea bass with bokchoy was light, healthy, and tasty. The seafood combination with bean curd had a nice flavor with a mix of scallops, shrimp, mussels, squid, mushrooms, water chestnuts, cabbage, snow peas. It was supposed to come in a clay pot but arrived instead in some sort of metal pot that kept everything very hot throughout our entire meal. Lastly, we tried the shrimp and scallops in hot garlic sauce. This, too, was good, but not very spicy at all. It's about $15 dollars for each of the house special dishes and less for "regular" beef/chicken/vegetable/seafood dishes. One thing I'd avoid is the Hong Kong Style wonton soup. The (shrimp) wontons were great but the broth was extremely salty. May have been a slip of the hand, not sure :) The restaurant seemed pretty full for a Tuesday night, but I don't think anyone had to wait long for a table. Wait staff were very kind and accommodating. It's a block from the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro and definitely worth a visit. read more

This place is horrible. The restaurant smells like feces. The karaoke bar is unique so people go but the staff is incredibly rude. I've been there twice now and both times they were amazingly rude. They have a mandatory tip on everything--even the karaoke rental room??? The staff is inattentive, rude, and can't be bothered w customers. Pretty average chinese takeout. I probably should have known it was a bad sign that they serve sushi and typical chinese delivery dishes. We got all sushi and it was not that great, it did not seem very fresh and most of the rolls were overloaded with sauces which seems to be covering up the crappy quality of fish. Also, we were able to use a yelp deal making it pretty reasonable but it was only for first time customers so without that the delivery would have been pretty expensive for not good sushi. I recommend getting off the couch and going out for real sushi instead of ordering from here if you want sushi. Probably wont order from here again. read more

I am a fan of the karaoke at this place. I have visited on three different occasions & have had a blast EVERY time. We have had some difficulties finding various songs ... perhaps the song list needs to be updated; however, you are sure to find very outgoing friends here, particularly if you sing at the bar. I finally discovered that singing at the bar is free so I saved myself the 25-35 bucks and used it for drinks instead! Regarding the food: I see mixed reviews here. I only ate here once and did NOT enjoy the sushi as it seemed a little slimy and fishy smelling. So each time I bring my friends, I make sure we eat somewhere else first. I will say the drinks and sake are great! I will definitely come back for that and the karaoke. read more
