We enjoyed our experience at Wok and Roll - food was good & service was too. We had the fried rice, lo mein, and dumplings. All of which we enjoyed. I have eaten better Chinese but the price was great for DC and food was very good. read more

Straight no! They served me a roll with stale or over cooked rice! It was so hard it actually crunched and bc my order was to go I couldn't complain in person so thank you Yelp! Awful service in the karaoke section.They double booked our room and kept walking in our room to ask us to leave. They were very pushy and totally ruined the end of our session. They include an 18% tip on anything you order there, including the room rental (why??) so you they don't have to have to provide good service to make money. Oh, and the system crashed completely at one point and got interrupted 5 minutes. Don't go there unless you have no other option. read more

Pretty nice karaoke and sushi spot. Came here last night for my friend's birthday and it was a great time. She reserved room 2 on the second floor which was a great amount of space for about 10-12 people. The couch in room 2 seats 10 people comfortably. The total for the room was $90.86 which included the $35/h, 10% tax & 18% gratuity. 18% gratuity is added to your entire bill at the bar & in the reserved rooms. The staff at Wok & Roll are quick to bring the check 10 mins before your 2 hour room reservation is up, right at 12 a.m. the next party was walking into the room we were occupying as we waited for our server to come back with our cards which was annoying. read more

I ordered Sushi-delivery-during the Friday snow rush before the storms back on 2-5-10. The fact that I had Sushi delivered was a plus! It was also pretty good! I am only rating them 3-Stars for two reasons: 1. The driver called and told me to come down to the lobby of my building. Delivery is to the door, NOT my lobby. He tried to complain about parking, but our security desk lets delivery drivers park right at the front door of the building with no issues. 2. I ordered one roll, that didn't come, they substituted it. But like I said, I am happy to now have found a decent sushi delivery place! With options for other food choices. read more

On the west coast, decent fresh fish can be found in mom n pop establishments covered in cutesy paper cranes. On the east coast, sushi restaurants are decked out in spare modern decor and charge ridiculous prices to match. Wok and Roll is a pleasantly surprising happy medium. The fish is tasty - not mind-blowing, but solidly good - and the $1 sushi happy hour means you can enjoy your fish without feeling like you're just another snooty sucker. read more

This is a casual and fun place. We were a group of six, two couples and two children. We best dishes were the Chicken fried rice, schezuan chicken and dumplings. My husband ordered General Tso's chciken which seemed a bit sweeter than most I have tried. He even commented that it wasnt as spicy as he has had. Very close to orange chicken. The schezuan cripy beef which I ordered sounded like a great idea until the dish came out and it looked like and almost tasted like the General Tso's chicken! Sweet! We had the singaporean pancit which was ok. The wait staff was good and attentive. Good place to go before and event considering how quick they turn tables over! read more

I used to work as Security on the karaoke level searching purses and book bags as patrons came in. I have soo many things to say about this place from the creepy owner whose English is so terrible that he pays someone to respond to complaints on Yelp and Google, to the robot like employees that work there. The usage of a muse used to respond to reviews was confessed to me personally by him one evening during a cigarette break in the courtyard. He could really care less. The building is in Chinatown so it's definitely rat infested as almost every restaurant in Chinatown is so I'd really reconsider eating in CT unless you're used to rat poop infested MSG laden food. Yes, you can literally taste the MSG in the food and you can see the rats running around if you pay close enough attention. Not trying to sound racist but the employees carry on like they are used to cohabitation with these animals. The food is PAR but again, I'm sure it's extremely unhealthy and definitely not fresh. The food comes precooked in frozen clear industrial plastic bags. The food is a bit overpriced but this is NW DC, not uncommon. But there is an AUTOMATIC 18% gratuity that I'm sure has risen since I've worked there, regardless if you're alone and only buying one drink. An ordinary cocktail from the bar (this is NOT a craft cocktail type of establishment) can run you an upwards of 24 bucks. And they will still expect a cash tip on top of the automatic 18% and shame you publicly if you don't tip more in cash. The service is subpar mainly bc of things lost in translation and the huge gap in social and cultural "norms". In other words a lot of the employees are students who seem a bit "fresh off the boat". Before you assume things about me know that I'm biracial and have immigrant grandparents so that was not shade but purely an observation. The set up for the karaoke rooms is a bit weird upstairs as the restaurant is on the bottom floor of the building. My job was to pretty much cover the karaoke entrance in the same fashion as I'd work the front door for a DC nightclub, which I have done for over 20 years. Search and ID check as well as inspect bags for weapons and outside alcoholic and food. The manger Nick (another Chinese man who is awkward due to his lack of understanding of American culture and behavior) would oversee my work, often verbally disrespect patrons and hide behind me when they returned the disrespect and he often made exceptions on the age requirement to enter. This was done often for underage Chinese teenagers who struck me as some rich important Chinese diplomat's only child. They would get so sh*tfaced that I'd literally have to carry them over my shoulder, down 2 flights of stairs to their BMW or Aston Martin whose driver pulled up as soon as I came out the door with them begging for my discretion. I could go on for days about the shady shit I've seen while working there along with the passive racism I endured.I often got the feeling that this company really resented its patrons but didn't mind taking their money which often lead me to wonder about its origins and true purpose given the current "tensions" and propaganda wars between the US and the Chinese Government. You'd be a fool to think that there aren't PLA sympathizers and agents walking amongst us, especially here in DC and in Chinatown. I'm not accusing or insinuating (well maybe a bit ) but anyone who has been there will agree that this place has a real weird vibe which is why I chose to stop working there. Also this business is located in the same exact building that Abraham Lincoln's assassination was plotted. Mary Surratts boarding house. Creepy building and business for sure. So I liked to order Wok and Roll from grubhub while I was at work. I only order General Tso's tofu with broccoli. Sometimes they would overcook the tofu and it would be a little crispy, which I actually kind of liked. The portions are large, I'll usually eat it for 2-3 meals and be happy a camper. I was in town for training and stopped by this place late at night it had good food, and good service.

I ordered food late on a Sunday night (past midnight) after working 10 days straight in DC and wanted a hot meal to end the day. The food arrived on time, was hot, delicious, and the order was completely correct. I left a note for no Mushrooms to be in my Vegetable Fried Rice and the order was correct. The food tasted fresh and both my fiancé and I loved our meal. I ate the leftovers the next day and everything still tasted fresh and delicious. I visited here to celebrate a birthday. We went on a Wednesday so when we came, the place was dead. The staff downstairs were not super friendly but directed us to the karaoke section upstairs. We had rented our own room and the servers at the bar accepted our orders quickly when we came up. Ordering food was easy to do at the bar and they offered Chinese and Japanese food. It took a long time for our orders to come but the food was good. We had the fried crab wontons and miso soup. The only negative was that we could hear the room next to us. Also, even though we reserved the room for the night, the screen kept cutting us off every hour which made us lose the playlists we had made. I would definitely come back to this restaurant again but would make sure to make shorter playlists. read more

Really good chinese food! We randomly had some delivered on New Years Eve. The veggie fried rice is the bomb! We even went back on New Years Day for some karaoke! The karaoke bar is upstairs and a little bit of an odd set-up. The people at the counter weren't really friendly and seemed agitated to explain things to us. The policy about ordering food while doing karaoke is so weird I'm not even going to bother trying to explain it. Basically pay for your food at the karaoke bar and make sure to find out if they're bringing it up to your room or not. The karaoke machine itself is attached to the wall and it needs to be updated. Some of the lyrics were soooo wrong and most of the videos didn't match. We played a Drake song and it was a complete SHAM. It was a woman's voice!!! It also got a little hot in the room and we had to hunt the employees down to get the air turned on. We did enjoy ourselves other than all of the weirdness. We paid for a medium room which was $45 for 2 hours. Not worth it unless you're in a big group, there were 8 of us and we fit in the medium room comfortably. Just placed an order for delivery and it arrived fairly quickly but the driver had a horrible attitude. I noticed he was outside so I went to my buildings front door. When he saw me he rolled down his window and motioned to me as he was expecting me to run out to his car and take the food from him. He visibly rolled his eyes and was clearly upset that he had to get out of his car to come to my door and actually deliver my food. Being polite I thanked him but he didn't say a word. No, it was not a good idea to grab some greasy Pan-Asian food after one epic weekend. No, it was not a good idea to head into the first place we saw after exiting the metro at Chinatown. But come on, bug in our food, messing up our order and having really nasty sushi + stir fry? Unforgivable. Wok and Roll has a creative name, in the same way the Scary Movie franchise is creative. In that you see the trailer, or name in this case, chuckle, and go on about your day. Oh, I wish we had. We entered because my group was tired, hungover, starving and having horrible judgement. The dining room was pretty darn dirty. Our table was dusty, a plastic-wrapping covered the table top and chair cushions. No AC, a tell-tale sign, at least to me, of a bad experience waiting to happen for a sushi place. We ordered, food came out. Gross stares commenced as the roach was unearthed, blackened and dead. Our waitress was nice, did not speak English, but fixed the mistakes and took it off the bill. Food was very greasy, even the steamed veggies we had were covered in a flour-laden mess of a sauce. Though the ambiance is pretty nice and the "small" room is quite large (it can host up to 15 people) the added, hidden fees on the receipt were ridiculous. On the phone, they tell you that the prices are $35/hr small room(up to 15 people), $45/hr medium room (up to 25 people, I believe). Though these charges are pretty standard across a lot of karaoke places in D.C., you have to take these prices with a grain of salt-- they charge a ridiculous gratuity fee. The bill for a small room (there were 5 people in total, for two hours) came out to be around $95! They added around $9 in tax, and then around $16 of added gratuity. RIDICULOUS. We didn't order any food or drinks, or request additional services from them (except for them to fix their machine when it became glitchy on us). These additional costs did not fare well with the group, and we all left as grumpy-pants. At least for the other karaoke places I have been to, no such additional charges have ever been added, so I was pretty shocked to see the final price. If you don't mind going for pricey karaoke, you should make a reservation beforehand, especially if you plan to go on a Friday or the weekend. Also, just to note: At first glance, the machine system seems pretty intuitive.. it's actually NOT. We wasted valuable time that could have been spent boogie-ing and singing on trying to figure out the glitchy system. There are several ways that you can search for songs- by chugging through a big list of artists (chinese/korean/japanese/english/etc all together in no apparent order), by using "search", or "handwriting" the letter that you are looking for. I was looking for ABBA's "Dancing Queen" (BEST SONG TO START WITH) When I searched "D", a whole bunch of song names popped up. I added "DA" to the search, and the system reported "no searches found".. So then I had to scroll through all of the "D"'s to get to "Dancing Queen". The same applied to all of the other songs and artist searches that we made throughout the two hours. In sum: To go to Wok n Roll, you have to be willing to pay high, additional fees and be willing to waste some time with the machines. read more

Never again! I give this H Street location 2 stars because the actual karaoke room was clean and the drinks were good (not the price). Let me start: I found this place right here on Yelp. I was looking for places with "private karaoke rooms". I read enough reviews and determined that I would give it a try! So I contacted this place on June 24th. My first question to the guy that answered was "Do you have private karaoke rooms?" He said "yes". So I asked "How much is it for 1 hour?" He responded $35/ 10ppl. I said "okay, can I make reservations for July 3rd | 10-12am". He asked for my name and number. There was a bit of a language barrier but I wasn't worried and didn't think anything of it. July 3rd rolls around. I pulled up at 9:59pm. Immediately, I was turned off by the outside appearance. (It was just a Chinese restaurant.). When I walked in people were sitting down EATING. No one was at the front door. So I walked further into the restaurant until someone noticed me. I asked the guy "Karaoke?" He said "yes, yes" and pointed to the back of the restaurant where there was a sign for karaoke. I was confused. But I walked through the tables of people eating -embarrassed because I was dressed for a night out (celebrating my bday with friends)- I followed through to the back and I could hear music and I saw lights and followed them through a smelly hall and up the stairs. When I arrived upstairs I was relieved- there was a bar with tables, music and dim lit. I was satisfied thinking that I wouldn't have to tell my guest to move the party somewhere else. I proceeded to check in... (I was a bit late -as I planned to get their earlier than my guest.) I don't remember the exact conversation but I told them that I was there for karaoke and I asked if any of my guests were there yet. A guy said "no one was there" so I exhaled again. It didn't occur to me that she asked didn't even have reservations. She kept asking me "how many people" was it for "what was my name" and "number". SMH. I guess I was still frazzled from being behind on time and walking the steps because it never occurred to me that they didn't even see my reservations. I was still talking saying if they are not here yet is it okay I wait till they arrive so that I don't waist my hour. She said yes. 10:30pm. We have a room at 10:30pm. "How many people, 15?" I was like ...sure lol. Didn't think anything else.. When she wrote down the time they all kept looking at me talking in their language.. I smiled lol. I don't know at what point I realize that they didn't even have my reservations. But after learning that -I was OK only because the lady told me that they did have a room available at 10:30 that was fine by me. 10:30 comes and a lady ushered us up another flight of steps into this huge karaoke room. As the lady asked me for my credit card to hold, something told me to ask how much that particular room was. She said $55 per hour. Oh no I was told that the room was $35 per hour she said no this room is $55 per hour. Oh OK well where is my room for $35. She told me that that was the only room that they had available. Well when I called to make the reservations I was told that karaoke for 10 people was for $35 it's not my fault that you guys lost our reservations. She tried to argue back-and-forth with me and I asked for the manager thinking that that would go over better. It didnt and he was just as rude. One of my friends went back-and-forth with him and so he decided to let us have that particular run for $45 an hour. I was honestly ready to leave but decided to stay just because people had already shown up at this time and the rest of my guest were still on their way. Keep in mind that all of this time we have spent about 15 minutes going back-and-forth with him I was like OK well since you wasted half my karaoke time will you be able to start it at this time and end at 12:45am... He didn't even want to do that. I said it's fine and I just advised all of my guys that were there at the time that witnessed this debacle to come back and write a yelp review. Drinks where $12 When they charged my card. They included about a 15% gratuity. But all of my guest went downstairs to buy their drinks. As they were instructed to. It wasn't until the next morning I thought about that so technically we didn't get any discount on the room. Ugh. It makes me upset just thinking about it! I am generously giving a one star. I decided to go to this bar for my roommates 22 bday and was extremely disappointed with with service. The karaoke rooms are ridiculously expensive and when they go over a sheet to sign they purposefully skip the payment section. Although you sign off, they specifically exclude that part in the explanation. They were extremely rude and unprofessional. I'm honestly embarrassed at how poor the service was. First let start of by stating that the food was definitely above average, not great but above average. I had a $20 groupon, which I had ordered Beef Schezuan, extra hot and spicy and as an appetizer had the chicken spring roll. The beef schezuan, although tasty, was not very spicy, the temperature of the food was warm, not hot. My server was not very friendly, I had to ask for water. What truly left a sour taste from the whole experience, when my balance was less than $2, with my $20 groupon, my server before I even was to grab my wallet, requesting me for customary tip, which I thought was extremely awkward. I visited this establishment with a group of my friends. When I first approached the bar there was this female bartender sitting at the bar playing candy crush with her cell phone. We stood there for like 15 mins without getting any help from her, until one of my friends got fed up asked if she works there. She replied back with broken English that I could hardly decipher... all we got was her name is "Katy". We hung out around the bar for approximately 3 hrs and she didn't not even move away from the chair, I see everyone at the bar working, except for her on a busy weekend. When I finally complained about her lack of service, she gave me this stare like one of these Japanese ghost movie stare (She even had on heavy make up and she still looks hideous or a character from "The Ring"... I could not imagine how she would look without make up with her double chin and mess up teeth... go figure) we just ignored her and continued our karaoke time. When she finally got behind the bar, her back was turned away from the customer... and continued playing her candy crush... I don't understand what is her existence at the bar :/ The sushi was fantastic and the song selection was kind of obsolete, but I'm sure they could correct these types of mistakes. The one of friendly bartender, James, really helped us and guided us how to use the Karaoke machine, props to him. Overall the establishment is decent and the price is fair. Easily some of the worst Chinese food in the city. It's sad because every Chinese food spot in Chinatown is almost inedible. I guess they don't really care about quality or customer service since DC is such a tourist city, tourists come in and want to eat in Chinatown and will eat anywhere. One and done. Total waste of calories, time and money. I really don't like writing bad reviews about restaurants, but I cannot emphasize how bad our meal was here. Not even sure why we ate here because we were always skeptical about this place. Nonetheless, we went for it because we were hungry, indecisive and we lived nearby. A red flag always goes up when you don't see chinese/asian people dining in an asian restaurant :/ We ordered soups: hot and sour and egg drop (which never came out). We ordered the combination chow mein with pan fried noodles. When it came out, our eyes widened in shock and confusion. The noodles were covered in limb, gray-colored bean sprouts which looked like there were pre-cooked and left out for days. The vegetables were mixed in a pale grayish sauce. The whole dish looked like it shouldn't be eaten, yet we ate most of it anyways because we were really hungry. I also ordered the dynamite roll which was topped with spicy baked scallops. The presentation was also horrendous. The roll was wrapped in foil wrap and all you can see was a blob of red sauce in the middle, really unappetizing. My wasabi looked really freaky too. It had specks of bluish-green all over. I was really afraid to eat it. When I asked about it, the worker told me it was because its not fresh wasabi and that they failed to mix the powder well. The sushi fell apart when I tried to pick it up with my chopsticks (which I had to ask for). The sauce was terrible. Really tangy for some reason and the scallops were not fresh (prob frozen?). Little chunks of scallops which I think was mixed with shredded imitation crab meat. I only ate 2 and got nauseous. Asked for the check and realize they charged us for 2 bowls of soups which never came out (thank goodness we forgot because it probably wasn't good). I hope this review is read and taken seriously. I only want restaurants to get better. Sorry, the quality of the food was really bad. And definitely didn't get oranges like I noticed in someone else's review. Grrr... read more
