I am visiting DC and was craving Chinese. What a HORRIBLE MISTAKE I made when I ordered from this place! First and foremost, the food was disgusting. I never write review however the experience today force to give only one star and let people know. I've been here several times before and never been asked for a credit card before start. The stuff told me they have to hold one before and they always do that. I can understand they do so but I cannot bear they lied into my face and insist I was wrong. Second thing is we order water but they told us they sold out so we don't order any other beverage. Just 1 minutes later he came in and said they got water now. This review is for the karaoke facilities at Wok and Roll. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our karaoke room was a little smokey but not enough that it was a distraction. The karaoke systems were a little confusing but a staff member came in to help us figure things out. The only compliant is that we noticed a couple of inconsistencies in our bill at the end of the night. During the night, people ordered drinks at the bar and either paid upfront or opened their own personal tab. After getting the room's total bill (including karaoke charges), we noticed that several of the drinks that were paid for at the bar were also added to the overall room charge. Some people in our group noticed this in advance, while others did not and paid twice. Additionally, the room's total bill included tax and a 18% gratuity. When we split the bill between our group, the total amount (including tax and gratuity) was split. In the split versions of the bill, additional gratuity was added. So we ended out paying close to 40% gratuity without realizing it. While we wish we had noticed these inconsistencies before paying, but we also didn't expect Wok and Roll to design its billing process in a way that would double charge us unless we caught its mistake. read more

Been here twice before, so we felt safe to go there again. Nothing fancy or out of the ordinary. Solid sushi and Asian food with good variety. Steep on the prices, but you are in D.C. the bathrooms are disgusting and there is only one pot for each male and female bathrooms. read more

Fried chicken had a really weird taste to it. Almost like it was old and stale. I took it back and received refund. The lady at the counter told me it wasn't old; it's just that it wasn't the taste that myself and 2 of my coworkers were used to. I order takeout at least once a month and they are the most accommodating. They allow me to order sushi rolls without any rice. They are very accommodating to allergies and food restrictions. The only downside is the delivery has taken over an hour on most occasions so it may be best to pickup or go eat that the restaurant in person. read more

I visited Wok and Roll again recently, really hoping that this experience would be a lot better than my last. But once again, I was extremely disappointed with my paper dry sushi that came in very small portions. They skimped out on the spicy tuna in my roll and the service was also not great. After being a little disappointed with the KTV/Karaoke options in DC, I was so happy to have stumbled upon Wok & Roll Karaoke. I won't comment on their food here, but this Karaoke seems new. We just happened to spot a sign and went in to request information. The price for a small room (which can seat up to 8 people, I believe) was $35.00 per hour. The rooms are nice, new, with new and comfy couches. The tv screen is large. And the karaoke system is also new - it's touchscreen! With a selection of songs in different languages. We sang most English and a couple of Chinese songs and I'm happy to say that the music videos were not at all random shots of mountains or lakes or people from the 80s. :) The system is easy enough to use. Though it was a bit difficult searching for the songs. Depending on how you search for the song, it sometimes does not appear in the results. The staff was very friendly and explained to us how to use it. They provide you with wireless mics, so you don't have to worry about being tangled up in the cords. I first found this place after giving up eating at La Tasca and RFD due to huge crowds. A guy was shouting "$1 sushi, $2 beers!" and my b/f and I did an about face and asked the man to repeat what he just advertised. The rest is history. With 40+ reviews, most everything has been covered, but I'll add in my own two cents, from a vegetarian point of view... --- Sushi: I am always happy with their avocado rolls. The avocado is always ripe and the rice is warm and moist. The shiitake mushroom, inari, and asparagus rolls deserve an honorable mention, but aren't amazing. I once tried the Vegetarian Roll, which contains "Cucumber, Kampyu, yamagobo," which is an interesting assortment of Japanese-style pickles. It was interesting, but nothing to rave about. -- Bubble Tea: Pretty good, I tried coconut. It tasted like the standard mix, the bubble were fine. I do like the presentation. The put it in a glass, making the beverage seem a little more luxurious. --Price: Prices are standard for the veggie items, about $5 for a 6-pack. This is the regular price, not a happy hour special. I wash the food down with some happy hour $2 beer. I believe the bubble tea was $4, which is standard. -- Other: I saw a group of Richie Riches come in here once who were willing to drop more than a few Hamiltons. They received a pretty classy looking meal. I am curious what you can get here if you aren't trying to be stingy. Wok 'n Roll is just a fun place to hang out with friends in DC. Food isn't extraordinary, but the prices are reasonable and it's never too crowded, which is a plus in the normally bustling Chinatown neighborhood. It's also a historic monument, as some other reviewers mentioned, so check out the plaque on the way in. It's a great conversation starter. read more

Came here for lunch. My sushi rolls were not very good - especially the soft shell crab. Then, about 8 hrs later, I ended up with severe food poisoning. Sever as in - had to go to hospital. Sorry, but that earns a restaurant 1 star in my book. Never again. read more

We had sushi rolls and realized that for sushi it's the best to go to places that specialize in sushi. Fish or sauce that they used for sushi was old and had to spit it out. Okay, keep in mind we went here memorial day weekend. It took my friend and I 3 hours to get here from Burke, VA!! DC closed off every other street for some biker festival. SO by the time I arrived at this place, i was HUNGRY. The only reason I entered this place is b/c it had a ZAGAT review sticker on the door and it said it was highly ranked by YELP as well. The sushi at this hole in the wall place was actually very very good. I had the tuna lovers special roll, $12 and they added an extra $2 b/c I wanted them to subtitute soy paper for seaweed paper. I also ordered the albacore tuna (they call it white tuna), which was also good. However, their chinese food was a complete joke. My friend ordered the beef with onions, and sad to say there were more onions than beef in the dish, and it was like $10-$11!! The beef was WAAAY to salty as well. The service was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! Everyone else who arrived after us, received their food BEFORE US! If it weren't for their horrible service and not so tasty chinese food, they would have scored higher for me. Actually, if they were just nicer, they probably would have gotten 3 stars. Decided on this spot for a birthday celebration. Reserved a private karaoke room. Two days prior. Upon arriving you would never guess this place is legit. But coming in you are ushered to an upstairs area and you feel a little relieved that u haven't just ruined your night. Overall it's a nice place. There's a bar upstairs and we had a private room with a great system and touch screen karaoke selections with everything. You get a personal wait staff and all you have to do is hit a call button. Everything was great. It's $35 per hour and they charge 18% gratuity on the room and foods. Even with separate checks. I took a star for that. But it is something I may want to do again. The food is decent but def nothing to write home about. They have great happy hour specials including the food. I've been here late night and during happy hour. Terrible service. I placed an online order and specified a time for it to be delivered but it showed up an hour early when I was not there to pick it up. The delivery person hung up on me as soon as he heard I was not at home and I had to call back and get him to wait around while I asked my husband who was thankfully home if he could pick it up. However, there's little to no ambiance and during the winter they seem to rarely have the heating on, which makes the dining experience less comfortable. JERK BOUNCER AT DOOR..BEWARE! A friend of mine had a room (PAID) at this Wok and Roll Karaoke bar and invited myself and my sisters and brother. Upon our arrival, we were NOT greeted but mean mugged by an already very annoyed security guard at the door. (Bald black dude just in case the owner sees this). We were very excited to sing Karaoke and were talking amongst each other about what songs we were going to sing while attempting to get out our IDs when things went downhill VERY fast. The bouncer demanded that we all "be quiet" or he would not let us in like we were children. He then threatened not to let any of us in because I reminded him he is not the owner and shouldn't worry about us being "Loud" because it is a Karaoke Bar on a Friday night. Were we to be whispering at a bar on a Friday night??? Like come one...I have never been to a bar with a noise ordinance and we hadn't even gotten inside yet. It wasn't that we were too loud, he just didn't like us for what reason I don't know... None the less, he continued to be very rude and condescending to the point where I chose not to go inside and spend my money. Between the 4 of us, I'd imagine about 200 bucks walked away that night. Long story short, I will never go back to this place again because the DOOR MAN thinks he is much more than he really is...he is to check IDs and move to the side, not harass party goers into leaving. Someone needs to remind him that he is not the owner and if he doesn't like his job and being around HAPPY PEOPLE, he needs to find another profession. read more

Not a very attractive place, and the sushi was just ok. The service is abrupt, blunt, and doesn't smile much. The restaurant is like a long train car where the rear is dark, away from windows and near the kitchen. The front of the place does have 2 small tables with windows, but the view is a grimy, busy street transitied by many commercial dump trucks. Add on some urban hip hop and even Eminem rapping, and it makes for an unfortunate environment to enjoy 2-star sushi. I've been to Wok and Roll several times over the last six years, and found the sushi to be some of the best in the city, especially for the price you pay here. Also, they make a mean, stiff, delicious drink. Tread lightly if you order a scorpion! We bought a groupon and went to China Town today to have lunch in this restaurant. We ordered Dumpling, Szechuan Chicken and salmon sushi...trust me food was so pathetic that we have left every thing in between even we tried fried rice but it was so oily. I recommend not to waste money for this. They add gratuity in the bill that you have to pay even if you did not like the food. Came here for karaoke with a group of coworkers. There's no happy hour special or anything. They have this tub looking thing for beer so we asked if it's cheaper if we get the tub but our bartender said no, we just pour bottles of beer in there so you would pay the price per bottle. The Karaoke system is horrible. It is so hard to navigate and choose songs. The system would freeze every 5 seconds. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because we ordered some food and it tasted pretty good. So I guess come here for the food but elsewhere for karaoke. read more

HUGE mistake and I'm sorry, here's why the two star rating. Google szechuan beef, that's not what was delivered second, when I order something "crispy" I don't expect disgusting gummy beef globs coated in a nasty red orange gunk sauce.
