Wok n Fire South Barrington is located in The Arboretum. The inside is huge with a bar, two dining areas, and large entry. I visited after seeing their Wednesday special of 50% off all sushi! This applies to the "Traditional Rolls" and "Signature Maki Rolls" sections of the menu. Because of the special, no modifications are accepted. I ordered the Dragon Roll and my husband ordered both the St Charles Roll & Scorpion. It took about 15 minutes for our order to come and the presentation was on point. We both enjoyed the flavor in rolls we ordered. For my Dragon Roll, only two ended up having avocado on top which was a disappointment. We were happy to come on a special day but wouldn't necessarily pay full price for these. The quality was good overall for being a small IL chain. Definitely take a look at their deals and give Wok n Fire a try! Notable Specials -Monday: Buy one stir-fry, take one home for free -Tuesday: Closed -Wednesday: 50% off Sushi -Thursday: BOGO Starters -Friday: 50% off Stir-Fry Dishes -Saturday: 50% off Noodles Dishes -Sunday: Free kids meals with $15 min adult meal purchase *specials for dine in only

Arrived on a Saturday at 12:48. Surprisingly quiet, about 4 tables with 2 servers. It's unfortunately are young server was not attentive when we first sat down. Place was kind of dark, even though it was in the afternoon, the boot that we said, and looked a little worn and dirty. Think the place needs a little polishing up to continue. Took about 10 minutes to get two Diet Coke's.. That said, however, food quality was pretty good. Chicken in both dishes were cut very small and seemed a little overcooked.

This was my first time back to Wok n Fire since before the COVID shutdowns in 2020 - they revamped their menu and figured we'd give it a try since it's been so long. We sat at the bar to avoid long waits for a table and were able to sit instantly, our bartender was very friendly, it just took a while to get our food.! We had the garlic edamame to start off with which was delicious- the sauce was a great flavor on the edamame. For the entree - we had the curry noodle bowl with shrimp as the protein - absolutely delicious. They could definitely spice it up a bit more, but pretty filling and massive size bowl. I'd recommend a visit overall if you want an Asian fusion place for dinner, it's about as good as I remembered - probably 4 stars.

Terrible service and food. We ordered a few rolls on special with no avocado and were told they could not do that. Then a few mins later said they could so we ordered them. It took 25 mins just to get our waters and the rolls came out after 1 hour and still had avocado on them. We didn't have time to wait for more since it had been 90 mins. They didn't offer to even discount our meal and actually over charged us. The rolls looked horrible and the spicy tuna was a paste, not fish. Gross. Will never go back

After a long absence me and my bud returned to Wok n Fire, and it is a good as it always was! Service was outstanding, the food delicious and tasty. What a great way to spend an afternoon with ya gal pals. April our server was top notched! I am vegan and April went above and beyond to ensure that I ordered nothing that would make me ill.

We don't come here often because it is a bit out of our way, but we really enjoy the food. The sushi here is excellent, but we haven't been eating much sushi lately so we have tried many of the entrees and they have always been great. Last night my wife split Kung Pao Chicken and Mongolian Beef with me, and both were great. My daughter had a bowl of Pho and she said the beef was her favorite anywhere. My son liked the calamari. My kids also ordered the homeade ginger ale with cranberry and it was delicious. My son asked me multiple times why the place was so fancy. It is nice. Lots of black and red with neat decorations. Our server last night was Ajay and he did a fantastic job. Very friendly and helpful and everything came out correct. Highly recommended.

If you can't tell already by the photos, this place is always in my rotation lol I have celebrated many birthdays, and holidays here. Was able to rent a private room for a party of 12 as well. It's beautifully decorated and many food options for anyone's diet. My top favorites would have to be the pad Thai and Thai red curry. Steak as my protein choice across the board. It's always tender. Most of my meals end with the banana fritter. Fried crispy banana drizzled in caramel sauce with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Dusted with cinnamon sugar to satisfy your sweet tooth. If you get the chance, ask for Ajay as your server! If it's your first time here, definitely request him! He will suggest you great drinks and narrow the menu down if you feel overwhelmed by it. Bonus, you can avoid the awkward question if he will take a picture of the family together. He's already on it! He's your whole package for an enjoyable dine out experience. They also have happy hour. Monday thru Friday 4pm to 6pm and Friday & Saturday 9pm to 10pm Bar & Patio only Check in for 10% off :)

    Incorrect Teriyaki Noodle GF

DINERS WITH ALLERGIES BEWARE I ordered from here on Door Dash tonight. They clearly have a gf menu and ordered gf for 3 out of the four people. The lids were all labeled gluten free but the noodles did not look right so I called. They in fact made it incorrectly with gluten filled egg noodles. They claim the rest of the items are gluten free. This is not the first time they have made things incorrectly during pick up, delivery and even dine in! They offered to remake it but I wouldn't have made it there before they closed as it's a 20 minute drive and door dash made me jump through hoops to get my money back.

For me a somewhat mixed experience which I'll explain more in depth, but still recommended overall. The restaurant has awesome decor where you're greeted by the status of a giant Buddha and very cool enormous decorations along the walls. The impressive design continues into the private rooms and even the restroom area, where you definitely feel like you're in a upscale business where you can also casually lounge around. The service is also friendly with knowledgeable staff that serve drinks quickly and can provide menu recommendations. Parking isn't too difficult most of the time here as the Arboretum has plenty of parking spots and this is conveniently located in the corner spot, easily accessible from many different directions. Prices are reasonable and in line with other similar restaurants in the area like Big Bowl or PF Changs. The food is fairly solid here, though there were are some things that prevent a full endorsement. The food took a considerable amount of time to be served on a weekday evening, probably over 30 minutes. This may be due to trying to fulfill takeout orders as well, though the dining room was not too full. With that said however, I liked the presentation overall on the different items I had, in particular the colorful sushi and pad thai. The meat/seafood portions were quite generous overall in the sushi, pad thai, sweet&spicy steak, and pho that the party ordered and the quality of the meat was quite good as well. The flavors overall were a little mild for Asian cuisine, though this is probably to be a bit more approachable for the Western palate, as nothing was overly spicy with familiar flavors and textures that were a bit more on the firmer side. Portion sizes were also quite large, with items that could be easily split into two meals. Overall, a fun place to hangout and enjoy an Asian inspired meal with cuisine that's a bit more elevated at reasonable prices.

The vibe is speakeasy-ish; the entrance is off the street in an alleyway but the interior is very nice, low light, and would be fun for a date night! The staff were attentive and very friendly. My friend got some shots, which were surprisingly good given they were kind of sweet, and I ordered the "mystic lamp" cocktail ($16) which was VERY memorable to me as someone that loves floral drinks -- it was very floral, slightly fruity, and had a lovely chunk of lychee it came with which was delicious! The drink was decent sized too; I've been charged a lot more for much less drink at other speakeasies (those of which I don't plan to visit again any time soon haha). In my opinion, this spot has the perfect combo of great drinks, nice ambiance, cool speakeasy-vibes, but also cheerfulness given the tiki-theme inside. Would definitely rec a visit to anyone visiting Chicago who likes cool bars!

I was excited for the experience having heard how busy it gets, blah blah. These positive reviewers need to seek out other tiki bars. After you negotiate the alley entrance and go down dangerously dark stairs, you are met with crazy boring decor. I kept thinking there had to be more right? The whole point of a tiki bar is to strike a mood, but hanging a very few polynesian masks on the wall, putting up a grass facade over the bar and dressing the servers in vaguely polynesian outfits is sad. I've seen private tiki bars at people's homes that are more exciting. Add to this a comparably boring music selection played far too loud over boomy lo-fi speakers and you'll wonder what's going on here. So what about the food and drink? Completely uninspired for anyone who's had more than a mai tai before in their life. About a dozen extremely common drink choices is all you get!! No specials, that's it. When I asked if this was the whole cocktail menu, the server said it was but they have a full bar so you can get anything you want. Well, I could get that service at just about any bar in the world, so big deal. Maybe it would be better if you sat at the bar and chatted up the bartender. One could also go taste their rum selections and other cocktails in the Bamboo Room, but I hate that kind of elitist nonsense. That's never been what tiki bars were about. The drinks we sampled were okay at best. Even the namesake 3 Dots and A Dash cocktail was lackluster and used cheap cherries for the dots instead of classic Luxardos. (If you know, you know) The appetizers were okay, but way overpriced. 5 tiny spring rolls for $18. Come on guys, enough already. I'd rather go to the bar at the Polynesian Hotel at Disney than return here. This place is a hard pass.

It wasn't enough for 4 people, let alone 6. One of our friends ordered the steak and scallops. Both came out burnt on the outside and were sent back. It is a noisy place full of older customers that know everyone in the place. Lots of customers hugging the staff, talking with the owners, and other tables. A great atmosphere if you are a local. One of the owners even suggested carrot cake for our desert. Really good by the way. We did see a number of regulars tables that were receiving complimentary appetizers. I get it, but you should treat first time customers the same to make them repeat customers? The issue was with service and how we were treated after we had to get service. Our server disappeared once our main course was ordered. Yes the place was packed, but the server made sure she kept on touching base with the regulars tables and we received less attention. Well like no attention. Well like we had to go to the bar to one of the owners to get our check. Well and when my significant other tried to comment that we had a lack in service the owner walked away from us. She turned a really nice first time experience into a never going back and write a bad review experience. (And my significant other was mad the whole evening, which made the event worse for me.) So even though I wanted to at least give them a 2 star review I had to tie it back to the tip we gave of $1. Regretfully we will not be going back to The Green Room.

I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, the staple menu item I order each time I visit. My guest ordered the Mongolian beef. My pad Thai came out visibly different than times past. It looks almost watered down and the tofu was not coated and seared with the beautiful crust it normally has. I ate it and it tasted... sour. Normally this pad Thai leans savory over sweet, but this time it just straight up tasted sour. The tofu was nothing to write home about, which is typically not the experience I have here. The Mongolian beef tasted like it had more sear on the meat than actual beef. It tasted over-charred. The rice and veggies were good, but that's kind of a simple feat. I ordered the Pomegrantate martini which was good. The space was also very hot, I understand it's a hot day and a busy restaurant but my legs were dripping in sweat the entire hour we were there. I will give them a try again, because I know from previous experiences the pad Thai was usually great. That tofu is what I keep coming back for! Hopefully next time it'll meet my expectations. This was this past weekend on Friday night.
