Wok n Fire South Barrington is located in The Arboretum. The inside is huge with a bar, two dining areas, and large entry. I visited after seeing their Wednesday special of 50% off all sushi! This applies to the "Traditional Rolls" and "Signature Maki Rolls" sections of the menu. Because of the special, no modifications are accepted. I ordered the Dragon Roll and my husband ordered both the St Charles Roll & Scorpion. It took about 15 minutes for our order to come and the presentation was on point. We both enjoyed the flavor in rolls we ordered. For my Dragon Roll, only two ended up having avocado on top which was a disappointment. We were happy to come on a special day but wouldn't necessarily pay full price for these. The quality was good overall for being a small IL chain. Definitely take a look at their deals and give Wok n Fire a try! This was my first time back to Wok n Fire since before the COVID shutdowns in 2020 - they revamped their menu and figured we'd give it a try since it's been so long. We sat at the bar to avoid long waits for a table and were able to sit instantly, our bartender was very friendly, it just took a while to get our food.! We had the garlic edamame to start off with which was delicious- the sauce was a great flavor on the edamame. For the entree - we had the curry noodle bowl with shrimp as the protein - absolutely delicious. They could definitely spice it up a bit more, but pretty filling and massive size bowl. I'd recommend a visit overall if you want an Asian fusion place for dinner, it's about as good as I remembered - probably 4 stars. read more

We don't come here often because it is a bit out of our way, but we really enjoy the food. The sushi here is excellent, but we haven't been eating much sushi lately so we have tried many of the entrees and they have always been great. Last night my wife split Kung Pao Chicken and Mongolian Beef with me, and both were great. My daughter had a bowl of Pho and she said the beef was her favorite anywhere. My son liked the calamari. My kids also ordered the homeade ginger ale with cranberry and it was delicious. My son asked me multiple times why the place was so fancy. It is nice. Lots of black and red with neat decorations. I've been here before and, while a bit on the expensive side, everything was always good.... so why am I writing a review now? Let me tell you about the most wonderful evening we had at Wok n Fire this past weekend. Jake was our server and he was amazing! I think we went with almost every suggestion he made and everything he suggested was perfect for us. To begin with, somehow he knew I was an Old Fashion drinker and suggested the smoked Old Fashion (alright, I would have ordered it anyway, but still...). My wife was thrilled with all the options that Jake told us about for her ginger ale (who knew?). She went with the cranberry ginger ale but skipped Jake's suggestion to make it alcoholic. When my daughter and her fiancée arrived, he also chose there drinks to perfection. And the smoking of the Old Fashion tableside was a hit. He suggested one of the two appetizers we went with, a special for that night, some type of blue fin popper (They were carving up a whole blue fin tuna that night). They were delicate and tasty, and the blue fin just melted in my mouth. My wife and daughter ordered steaks and her fiancée and I split a large sushi platter. Jake suggested we add some blue fin to that platter (just $15 more). You do not get that many chances to have fish that fresh here in the Midwest, so we jumped at the opportunity. For me a somewhat mixed experience which I'll explain more in depth, but still recommended overall. The restaurant has awesome decor where you're greeted by the status of a giant Buddha and very cool enormous decorations along the walls. The impressive design continues into the private rooms and even the restroom area, where you definitely feel like you're in a upscale business where you can also casually lounge around. The service is also friendly with knowledgeable staff that serve drinks quickly and can provide menu recommendations. Parking isn't too difficult most of the time here as the Arboretum has plenty of parking spots and this is conveniently located in the corner spot, easily accessible from many different directions. Prices are reasonable and in line with other similar restaurants in the area like Big Bowl or PF Changs. The food is fairly solid here, though there were are some things that prevent a full endorsement. The food took a considerable amount of time to be served on a weekday evening, probably over 30 minutes. This may be due to trying to fulfill takeout orders as well, though the dining room was not too full. With that said however, I liked the presentation overall on the different items I had, in particular the colorful sushi and pad thai. The meat/seafood portions were quite generous overall in the sushi, pad thai, sweet&spicy steak, and pho that the party ordered and the quality of the meat was quite good as well. The flavors overall were a little mild for Asian cuisine, though this is probably to be a bit more approachable for the Western palate, as nothing was overly spicy with familiar flavors and textures that were a bit more on the firmer side. Portion sizes were also quite large, with items that could be easily split into two meals. My husband and I met some friends for dinner at Wok n Fire. This is a great spot for food and drinks. There is a large eating area inside and outside as well as space by the bar. I love the Buddha and other Asian decorations throughout the restaurant. Once we arrived, we were greeted quickly by our server. We ordered some drinks while we looked at the menu. I ordered the Vietnamese Pho Bowl, and my husband ordered the shrimp pad Thai and the sushi sampler. The pho was good, but it was missing the fragrant basil that I'm used to. It hit the spot because I hadn't had it in a while. The pad Thai was good and I enjoyed the sauce it was in. Both the pho and pad Thai had very generous amounts of meat in them. The fish in the sushi was cut very thick. Everything was very fresh. The only complaint I had was that the ticket time was unacceptably high. It took about thirty minutes to get our food once we ordered. There was a long line at the door waiting for online orders. I checked in on the Yelp app. There was a check-in bonus offered by the restaurant of 10% of the bill. Thanks, Yelp. I highly recommend Wok N Fire for great food. DINERS WITH ALLERGIES BEWARE I ordered from here on Door Dash tonight. They clearly have a gf menu and ordered gf for 3 out of the four people. The lids were all labeled gluten free but the noodles did not look right so I called. They in fact made it incorrectly with gluten filled egg noodles. They claim the rest of the items are gluten free. This is not the first time they have made things incorrectly during pick up, delivery and even dine in! They offered to remake it but I wouldn't have made it there before they closed as it's a 20 minute drive and door dash made me jump through hoops to get my money back. read more

I have been to Wok N Fire few times now and it is conveniently located at the Arboretum outdoor mall. There is normally ample parking with charging stations. I went here on a Wednesday night which is ladies night from 6 to 9 PM. The lettuce wrap with chicken is very good (I requested no spice) and was a generous portion. The raspberry martini was very good as well. The waitress was very nice and attentive to our group. The ambience is unique and the restaurant is very well-maintained. I give this place overall 3.75 stars but the waitress was top-notch at 5 stars. I will definitely be back! read more

We came here for a late lunch/early dinner and the inside is well furnished and decorated. Per my boyfriend, the mens bathroom seems to be in the middle of renovations, and is quite fancy. The womens bathroom was not yet renovated. They have a large indoor area with multiple different rooms. We were seated quickly, and the staff were excellent. Our waitress seemed quite busy running around to different tables but she was attentive and cleared our plates and filled our waters when needed, and our food came quickly from the kitchen. We ordered the appetizers of Yakitori Beef, Malaysian Chicken Satay and Edamame (with garlic sauce). The Yakitori Beef had a great sauce but the meat itself was chewy/over cooked. The Satay and Edamame were both excellent. For entrees we ordered from the Stir Fry section of the menu and got Pad Siew Noodles with Tofu and Cantonese Orange Peel with Steak. Both entrees were delicious! The food was quite expensive for two people, it came out to around $75 not including tip. I am from the area and have been here many times with friends and family and spoke very highly of it and place or . The last few times we've been has been situations of immediate concern and dissatisfaction. The last two times within a month time at 8 o'clock they were already calling last call and closing during our dinner. Last night I went there with my sister from Arizona and my other sister for a family get together expecting used to be a usual great experience. My sister spent the time to choose her wine only for them to tell her that they didn't have it. She chose another one and they didn't have it then my brother-in-law was order a bottle of wine. She says I'm sorry we don't then my other sister and they didn't have it three strikes before we even looked at the menu. As far as the food quality and presentation has always been stellar it was just OK the last couple times there's barely anybody in the place anymore and not very uppity or fun. We usually come here 2x per year with friends and family. The Rising Sun is my go to drink but they have a great selection of cocktails. This time we tried the Spicy Ramen and Stir Fry options and they were delicious! We LOVE this place. How much you ask? We went twice in span of 7 days (weekend before and the weekend after). We used to come here on occasions but since the "shelter-in-place" / quarantine / pandemic we have not have any decent sushi for the past 3 months -- and by decent I mean from a real restaurant, fresh, and not pre-made in some grocery aisle (which is never the same). The maki tolls here do not disappoint. We ordered 3 to try and turns out there is a deal for 3 for $40 which saves us about $10-15 on both occasions! So both times we ordered almost the same dishes to show you that they really perfected some dishes. Here are what we had and not a single dish was a miss! Sushi: Scorpion (soft shelled crab, spicy sriracha), Inky (fresh scallops -- our fav), Tuna Takate (steak tuna, so good!) and the Wok N Roll (eel) Entree: Udon Seafood Noodle soup (spicy and comes with about 10 TIGER shrimps!), Szechwan Noodle Stir-Fry Beef (spicy, will not disappoint), Pad Thai noodles (decent) App: Pot Stickers (can I have 3 servings of this?) my kids love it. Kids Meal: Cheeseburger is huge and comes with a drink We took dining in for granted for their cute lantern decor but patio dining has given us a new sense of appreciation for dining al fresco. Having said that, we still can't wait to dine in-doors again with A/C again when IL opens for phase 4. Till then, be safe and wok on! Over all, solid 4 stars. While it is a favorite, dining here does come with a moderate price tag ($15-20 rolls average, entrees $15-20+) so we pretty much reached our peak of dining out budget these past two weekends. Fast forward about 45 minutes and our drinks haven't even come out yet. No other group around us has received anything yet as well. Our Calamari app was cold and rubbery, my kids chicken tenders were dry and the waiter forgot to bring me my entree until everyone else was done eating at our table, and then they got my order wrong...ugh! I let the waiter know, but I didn't want to send back at that point because I didn't want everyone to have to wait any longer since they were already finished with their meal. In addition, when I tried to use a $10 off coupon, they refused to honor it. It was an older coupon, but it didn't have any expiration on it and the name and address on the coupon clearly says it was for Wok N Fire Burr Ridge. They acknowledged it was real, but still refused to honor it. After a disaster of a dining experience, you would think they would want to let us use a little $10 off coupon, but they refused without a valid reason, other than saying the coupon was outdated, even though there was no expiration present. Given the restaurant was already empty on a Friday night (clearly a struggling business) I asked the manager if it was worth losing us as a customer over this? She refused to answer and walked away....hence this bad review. My family will NEVER dine at this horrible restaurant ever again and would strongly advise against anyone dining there as well. Their food was overpriced for the very little portion sizes they gave. Sushi, maki rolls, stir fry, soups salads signature dishes with rice or noodles. We chose edamame for our appetizer but the list of choices is long. For mains we had Szechwan chicken and Kung Pao chicken. We both chose chicken as our protein but steak shrimp scallop tofu or just straight up veggie is available. White or brown rice comes with the dish and fried rice is available for a small upcharge. Drink menu is huge with sake wine and signature cocktails. I couldn't pass on a glass of wine with my meal. The food was fresh with a good spice level and delicious taste. The presentation was pretty and the service was attentive. If you are in the Higgins Rte 59 area be sure to give them a try. I would say the sushi is the only good thing out of these items and even then it is really expensive. I would say the service was pretty good, but there is a long wait time usually so be sure to call in advance.
