I'm sort of limited what I can get here, but what I get, I love! Freshly baked bread commences the meal (sometimes, it takes a long time to get it), with a friendly, attentive staff who is knowledgeable about suitable wine pairings with your entrée. I usually get their garden salad (simple and so good) and the Ratatouille Tortellini. This consists of a delicate pasta with fresh filling and a lovely sauce. When offered, their lobster bisque is velvety with nice chunks of lobster meat and always served piping! I've also had their scallops which are also quite pleasing to the palate and their lobster roll (okay, but not my favorite). I love this place, the atmosphere is charming yet cozy and I love haphazardly eavesdropping on local gossip (shhh! don't tell anyone!) all while enjoying a relaxing night out in the Village of SoPines; Plus I've met some really fascinating people walking in and out of this place. Eat here! Easy to make reservations online, or an app. (Adds to the convenience factor and that makes me happy). Small but very comfortable! Most small places jam the tables too closely together and you're elbowing the strangers at the table next to you, not the case here. Warm environment! Welcomed as soon as we came in and it was genuinely friendly (I hate snooty staff, makes me want to keep my money). Service was great! Attentive, and helpful with features/details and recommendations, and the speed of service was well timed. The food- fantastic! Superb quality, creative! We tried a little of everything and not was thing was a miss. The menu was well thought out. It wasn't overwhelming but it did you wanting to try everything. They allow for half plates of some entrees allowing for you to try more than one which we loved and did. Everything was cooked perfectly, tender, melt in your mouth perfectly whether it was fish, beef, or veal. Breads were amazingly buttery with just a touch of crisp for texture. The server paired our wines well, and didn't overfill the glasses as one night at some establishments. The dessert was well done, sweet with a touch of savory, just enough to enhance the flavor and not cover it up. Just amazing, all around. Even the prices are reasonable! I've been to Wolcott's twice in the last two months for lunch on their patio. We were openly welcomed both times by a kind and cheerful staff. Fans provided just enough breeze, the birds were chirping, laughs were shared - It was simply fabulous. Enjoyed their amazing grilled cheese with tomato jam on freshly baked bread. The shaved chips were like I've never seen. Everything is done in-house with excellence. The bread pudding with vanilla bean ice cream may have been the best I HAVE EVER HAD. Wolcott's is where to go for the all around gourmet experience with the best service. No detail is over looked from preparation, to presentation, to ambiance. Its all superb. In general, every single dish has come out perfect. The seasoning is on point, things that are supposed to be crispy are crispy, and flavors are paired well together. Came here with my girlfriend, daughter, cousin and her husband and enjoyed it very much. It reminded me of an area in la called larchmont village. The food was great.. My favorite was the lobster toast. They have lobster everything here. The owner is supposedly from Boston from What I hear. My cousin picked this spot out as she has been there several times. The price range is about $20-40 a person depending on what you order. Nice place to go for date night or special occasion. Kind of a small restaurant though. read more

They brought back the chop steak! And even though the menu may seem limiting, the servers and chef are very accommodating to any special dietary needs you may have. Another really great thing about Wolcott's is that they take reservations at lunch. This is something that many downtown Sou. Pines restaurants do not do. Wolcott's was my introduction to the power of Yelp. One day my son and I were in Southern Pines casting about for lunchtime sustenance, when he pulled out his iPhone, and homed in on this restaurant. It reminds me of Philadelphia somehow, where some of my formative eating experiences occurred, being an airy and modern feeling renovation of a old building -- high ceilings and broad plank floor providing a backdrop for stylish artwork and lighting and comfortable seating. The menu is varied, though the chef, the eponymous Scott Wolcott, has a few favorites. Lobster appears in several guises, as does veal. Sauces are creative and applied with a light hand. The dinner menu offers both regular portions and small bites, so it is possible to taste a number of dishes at one visit without risking food overload. Both the menu and the wine list are relatively brief and very well chosen. I prefer to be presented with a selection of items that has already been thought out and edited, so that I don't have to wade through too much extraneous matter. This is one of the very best restaurants to be found in the Pinehurst and Southern Pines area. read more

What a great little place. The waitress was very accommodating when I stopped in for lunch. I had the Le Croque Monsieur, which is a fancy version of a grilled ham and Swiss cheese sandwich, served with maple syrup. Wolcott's is a great place. I have been there twice for dinner this year and both times the food was fantastic. Most recently, dined with 5 friends and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The waiter gave us great service and excellent wine recommendations. About the only negative was that our portion sizes for the entree's were just a tad too small. The food was so good, we wished we had just a little more on the plate! The location is really wonderful. It is very charming to dine in Southern Pines downtown. Just had a wonderful meal there! Very nice restaurant in a quiet location with a very relaxing atmosphere. Soft southern blues music playing in the background allowing for conversation. I had escargot for an appetizer and it was delicious. The folks with me had lobster bisque that was equally well done. For the main course we had pheasant dinner, an eggplant cannolini dinner and a scallops with pork bellies dinner. They were all exceptionally good as was the service. The bread was amazing and the deserts very tasty. It is a little pricy but well worth the money. The only negative was the lights kept flickering every time the dish washer kicked on. My husband and I have taken three different golf trips over the course of the summer/early fall, and Wolcott's had the best overall meal of any place we've been in Virginia, West Virginia, Michigan, and now North Carolina. This is a small, very tasteful, comfortable restaurant with stellar service. Thank you, Travis! The menu is smallish but wonderful. My husband had the fried oyster appetizer, one of his favorites, and we both had the seafood stew. It was absolutely delicious. Many pieces of seafood - scallops, shrimp, lobster - in an aromatic and tasty tomato sauce. Wine list was fine, beers and cocktails available as well. For dessert, we decided on the New York cheesecake with raspberry sauce. One of the best cheesecakes I've had outside of New York. Ultimate compliment: our dinner reservations for tomorrow night had to be canceled due to a daytime conflict, so we will be going back to Wolcott's. read more

We actually were heading to eat at Rhetts which was highly recommended on trip advisor and it was closed on a Tuesday night. We saw that Wolcott's was open not a half a block away so we decided to try it. Great service, great food. Fun little place. We had the truffle salted fries. Was really excited to try them. I have had many versions before with truffle oil and loved them. These were good, but not life changing. The truffle flavor was too subtle. The dips that came with the fries were very good. My wife had the Mahi Mahi special and I had scallops with the angel hair pasta. Both were well cooked and seasoned. My scallops were tender, however the seared crust was a bit too salty and almost overpowered the flavour of the entire dish. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great value. They also have option to turn almost any entree into a 1/3 size tapa. A great way to try more items. They were kind enough to split the Mahi Mahi on two plates for my wife and mother in law, something that we didn't ask for but was welcomed. They went above and beyond. We had a Bel Glos Clark & Telephone Pinot Noir. It was beautiful. Decent wine selection by bottle and glass. read more

If I could give a place zero stars, I would. My mother lives in Southern Pines and has been to Wolcott's several times and liked it, so I figured we could go there one night to switch up our usual restaurant rotation. We arrived at 7:30 and were told our table had not yet turned, and if we'd mind having a drink on the patio - no problem at all. Walked through the restaurant to the patio, noticing along the way that none of the tables looked close to being done. Fast forward an hour - we finally get seated inside at 8:30. To Wolcott's credit, we were given the option to eat on the patio if we wanted, but we were not really dressed to eat outside, especially since a storm was blowing in and it was not enclosed. I tried to order the peach salad only to be told peaches are out of season (duh - it's November!) and it wasn't available. WHY is it on the menu if there is no intention of serving it?! They were also out of 2 entrees, which is hard when there are only 8 or so to choose from to start. From there, we tried to order a Malbec by the glass. They were out. Then tried to order a different Malbec by the bottle. Also out. So we had the chef recommend something similar to a Malbec on the menu - ended up with an okay Shiraz, but nothing to write home about. Again - a limited menu that wasn't helped by the fact that they were out of wines. So we ordered and when they brought the wine, I was astonished when the waiter asked me to repeat the entree I ordered. There were only 6 to choose from at that point! Write it down the first time bro, you won't offend me, I have a horrible memory too. THEN, we were brought bread, but the bread we were given was the size a large baby carrot. Not an exaggeration; it was almost laughable. It was delicious, but really anything would be at now 9:00 at night. The final straw was a table of 6, that was there before we arrived, was just getting their entrees - but only 4 of them. The other two would be "just a few more minutes." Not a good sign for the remainder of the meal. We ate our appetizer, cancelled our entree, and left. There was nothing the staff could do at that point to salvage the experience. It was a shame because the food we had was quite good, but I will never go back because it was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. read more

While searching Yelp for a locally owned restaurant with great reviews in Southern Pines, we decided to have lunch at Wolcott's. The dining room atmosphere is inviting and we were able to get the quaint table by the window. We were immediately greeted by friendly staff. Ordered a Bloody Mary to start. It was fantastic! No premix here! Ordered the carrot purée cold soup which was delicious and then we ordered the house special lobster rolls. Absolutely delicious and well worth getting one for yourself. Fresh and plentiful lobster. You will not be disappointed! Though full we had to have the well described pumpkin spiced caramel bread pudding with homemade vanilla ice cream. Folks, this is not your grandma's mushy bread pudding. It was the best we've ever had...filling and sweet but not so much that it made you regret splurging on dessert. The food was delicious and we also have to make mention of the polite, courteous, and "correct" service we received. Correct because our server knows fine dining and knows her serving etiquette. We were extremely pleased with our entire experience and highly recommend Chef Wolcott's establishment. read more

This was my second time here. I frequent many of the restaurants in downtown southern pines. The main dish was exceptional as it was the last time I was here. We asked to taste one of the deserts and were told they would not do that. We ordered another desert that we were unsure of, the bread pudding, which was not all that special. We told the staff and they were rather unsympathetic. the bill came and they took off second desert but then charged us $8 extra on both of our bottles of wine. I thought this was very dishonest. We tried to talk to the owner and they sent over the senior waitress. There are other good restaurants is southern pines. read more

Came to So Pines for an author event at the local bookstore and since I had read all the reviews before, we fortunately chose Wolcott's and were not disappointed. We arrived after the lunch rush so they were not very busy. We were seated by a very nice guy ( in a tie at lunch) and our waitress was very prompt to bring us water and the menus. The prices were very reasonable for the area and I chose the bacon burger. Oh My! I can honestly say it was the best burger I have ever had. The waitress told me the chef uses prime rib in the mix and the bbq sauce did not overpower the flavor of the meat. Someone had recommended the oyster po boy and my friend said it was to die for. The only problem that I could comment on was they did not have ranch dressing for the wonderful chips, but that was not a big deal. The waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about the food and wine. I would drive the two hours to come here again and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a lunch place when in the area. Such a welcome departure from over-priced chain restaurants and there were no loud children. read more
