They were absolutely great & transparent about anything they came across or might have issues with that may change the estimate. I was very pleased with their customer service, ability to provide proper care to my car, and their mechanic who did all of the work. Snapping on two clips during a routine filter change does not justify $101 total, nor does the receipt list any actual repair labor for the box itself. 2. Inaccurate Claims About My Review: Brake Inspection: The owner accused me of "fraud" regarding an $80 inspection charge. I explicitly acknowledged that "While they didn't charge for the brake inspection itself, the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth." I acknowledge the $0 charge on that specific line item. Caliper vs. Total Brake Cost: The owner claimed I said calipers were $900. I never said that. I stated the total brake repairs came out to over $900--which is accurate, as the front disc brakes ($842.24) and rear drum service ($132.00) totaled $974.24. My review explicitly stated the calipers themselves were "almost $250" ($124.14 x 2 = $248.28), which is accurate to the penny. 3. Unclear Communication on Calipers: Replacing calipers isn't routine maintenance for standard brake wear; it's a major component replacement. Check with any reputable shop and they will agree. I was in shock of course, having never had a car stolen before. I got a call from Salem police two days later saying they found the car. It was impounded so we drove up on Monday afternoon and went to rescue it. I couldn't believe how the thieves sought to destroy my well-loved classic car. I couldn't start it and there was TONS of mud inside the car, under the hood, the back area under the hatchback was smashed along w/ a taillight. I knew I was going to pay for someone else's crime, which sickened me. The tow company recommended Valley Specialist so I had the car towed there that afternoon. Very nice staff, the young woman who runs the front office was so kind, love the sweet mascot they have (dog). I was fearing a big mess and big bill. The next morning I got a call from the shop and the first step was replacing the starter. I approved it. About 2 hrs later I found a receipt that I bought a new starter from a local shop for a new starter. I called the local shop and they called Valley Specialists and told them it was under warranty. I got a call from VS about 1 pm stating the car was working and that seemed to be the only problem w/ the car-mechanically speaking. The starter was swapped out for free and the bill was just $132 for the labor! I was thrilled! Without a doubt.....Valley Specialists are top notch and honest! They did not tell me that the inspection comes with any service, nor did they give me the ability to opt out beforehand on the information sheet I filled out. They tried to charge me 300$ for the oil change because my oil cap was stuck on from my last oil change. They told me my headlights were fine, I have had to get out of my car and push them back in to get them working leaving my job at midnight twice since I've left that shop, which is the issue I wanted fixed. They also quoted me 10k for the other damage to my car, which I was already aware of because I PAID for an inspection with another shop. Now, two weeks later, I'm getting new lights on my dash and my car is running horribly, which never happened after my Walmart oil changes (though they got my cap stuck). Everything about this place is sketchy, they WILL damage your car to get you back in the shop, do not trust this business. I will be taking my car somewhere that has some business standards.

Very thorough repairs, service advisors are civil and explain things carefully, and they will drive you home and pick you up if you don't have an alternate ride. And for a two-bay shop, they were able to take me in very quickly, and did not keep the truck longer than one overnight. Nowadays, EVERY visit to a shop means a bill in high three figures, if not low four figures, and I have no way to calculate comparative economics. Certified is now my go-to repair shop. Preferred over AJ's and definitely over Power GMC.

I got better service than I've ever received anywhere! I had gotten stuck over night in Salem due to car issues and had found him in Yelp the next morning. I did have to call many times, but Doc is a husband and wife operation, so they are busy. However, he called me back and fit me into his schedule, problem solved my bent hood and pushed-in front of my car, and gave me super helpful advice on topping the oil in my very old car. My dad had followed me out to Doc's garage because I wasn't sure my car would make it, and we listened to what Doc was telling me. Dad said I had received such great service and was fortunate to have such an experienced mechanic take the time to explain what was going on with my car. I'm a little embarrassed to say, I didn't know that many old cars need to be topped with oil between the 3,000 miles mark. That explained the sound my car was making and how it felt driving. Though I was embarrassed, I never felt talked down to by Doc. (Ladies, take your car here!) The other problem with my car was that I had gotten into a fender bender on my way to Salem and was unable to unlatch my hood. We left Doc's for an hour and came back after receiving his call. Doc had somehow managed to smooth the hood and get it to unlatch and latch again. This was amazing because the problem wasn't just with my hood, but with the whole front of my car. It had been pushed in 3 or more inches pinching the radiator. What Doc charged for his work was so reasonable, I was dismayed. I would drive from Portland to Keizer to have Doc work on my car. He was great.

I was able to take my car in, in the morning, and have it done in a few hours. My daughter recently needed brakes on her VW Rabbit, and I took her car to Doc Brown's and had her brakes replaced. Again, the brakes were done quickly, and at a very reasonable price. If you're looking for an honest, dependable, and knowledgeable auto tech, this is the place to go. Just be aware that this isn't like a regular garage or dealer's waiting room. There's nowhere to sit and wait for your car, so you'll have to have someone pick you up and then take you back for your car when it's finished. But I'll take a little inconvenience for good, competent work and price anytime.
