Over the past few months, my son and I searched for affordable used cars, test-drove cars, shopped around for a good trade-in price for the minivan, and even posted the minivan on Marketplace. Yesterday, as I drove off the High Street bridge and returned home to Alameda, instead of turning left, I drove straight to Diamond Auto's lot. I recognized my son's dream car by the enormous spoiler on the back. I took it for a test drive. I sat with Alex to discuss the price. Today, my son and I test drove the car. We sat with Alex to discuss the price and the warranty (3-months, which isn't much, but it's 3-months longer than any other warranty we were offered). We came to an agreement. I gave Alex the keys to my beloved minivan (which is now for sale, by the way), a lump sum on my credit card, and drove away in a sporty sedan. It wasn't just that we found the right car at the right price today. We found the right salesperson. Alex is supporting the local community as well as his own family. He negotiates directly and clearly. He speaks respectfully to middle-aged women and teenage kids. No gimmicks. No pressure. No confusing equations. Tell him what you need, and he'll tell you what he needs. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, no pressure. I enjoyed doing business with him.

And the title to my car is still NOT in my name. I've texted him so much times and have called him so many times I've lost count and no answer back. I've gotten pulled over because of my registration which he said he paid for but did not. I had to pay an extra 400$ to get my registration tags. And still have to go through another process to try and get the title under my name because ALEX hasn't done it in over a year. He answered me 1 time in 10 months on the phone call and promised me he would do it and to call back to remind him. And again and again, ignored me after. Stayaway from them and especially away from ALEX. I strongly recommend that the own gets back to me or fire ALEX because he is not trustworthy and has pocketed my money for registration fees as well as not putting the title under my name. I'm In constant anxiety due to the problems ALEX has given me. Very shady guy and continues to ignore my calls and text messages.

They referred my husband to a very reasonably priced warranty as well. There was an issue with the middle row seat belt being stuck. We have children so safety is our number 1 priority. They are having it fixed for us after the completed sale. This is on top of their already wonderful customer care and service. I highly recommend doing business here.

I was interested in a car on this lot that dropped to half the original price in 3 months and couldn't get a response from two websites (Carfax, their own), phone or text, so my gf and I showed up on a Saturday morning. I was informed by the attendant that the car was stored off-site and he could not drive it as it had a manual transmission. The manager would bring the car from storage in a couple of hours. My gf and I drove almost an hour to get there, so we found ways to kill time (Oakland flea market, Crown Beach and a coffee shop across the street). Four hours later, the car finally arrived. I knew the vehicle was crashed from the photos posted, but the attendant did not share that it had been broken into. It not only had the absolute dirtiest interior I have ever seen in a car at a lot, there was broken glass everywhere, the stereo was gone, wires were hanging out of the dash and most of the HVAC controls were missing. I was surprised they would even show it in this sad state. Despite all that, I test drove it, without my gf who couldn't get in because of the glass all over the passenger seat. It drove well and I was assured they would fix the window and clean up the glass. When I followed up with the attendant a few days later via text, he shared photos of the repaired window and gave me an out-the-door price that was significantly more than expected. Remember, I have experience with these transactions, so I asked for an itemized list of the fees. That's when I balked. The last three cars I purchased, all from similar small dealers, were in the same price range and included the typical additional fees (document processing, smog, smog certificate, etc.). The total percentage of the tax, title and license, plus fees relative to the purchase price for those cars was 23%, 24% and 25%. Reasonable. When I calculated the total percentage Axum was charging over and above the purchase price, it was 39%. I shared a screenshot from the DMV website with the attendant that illustrated the estimated sales tax and registration fees at less than $400, yet he was quoting me $450 before their additional charges (for a total of nearly $600 on a car that wasn't even $1500). At this point, the attendant stopped being polite and curtly informed me that was the price and if I could not pay it, they could not sell the car. It was easy for me to walk away because I don't need a vehicle. Had I been in a different situation, I might have paid the inflated price. I checked the out-the-door cost for a different car on another lot yesterday. The percentage of the purchase price for TT&L, even with higher doc fees: 18%. I received a sincere apology from the owner for my less-than-ideal experience. Added a star for the follow-up/accountability and improved customer service.

Excellent communication, service, and timely replies. I received a significant discount on the OTD price, even when including the BuySide Auto fee. On top of that, I NEVER had to step into a dealership, talk to a salesperson directly, spend hours playing the "let me ask my manager" game, or have to talk to a Finance manager and repeatedly say NO to unnecessary options. All communication was easily done through email and text, although phone and in-person contact was also available. Process starts with completing a convenient online request. From there, Kim contacted me to fully understand my wishlist, range of optional requirements, and any non-negotiables. After reaching out to their dealer network, within a day she provided a list of potential matches with estimated OTD prices, which included some in SoCal available for transfer to the Bay Area and cars still in production with estimated availability dates. I had a lot of questions and some requests and Kim was very responsive and instrumental in relaying them to the dealer and advocating for me. Even my request to remove all dealer installed options was negotiated by Kim and granted by the dealer with no hassle on my end. I paid the BuySide Auto fee to reserve the car for purchase and when the car was available I opted to pickup at their office in SF. Home delivery to SF is also currently no charge, while delivery outside of the city is available with a modest fee. Upon first contact, I asked if weekend pickup or delivery was available, since their normal hours are on weekdays. Kim made note of it and remembered my preference even after the sale was completed. Chris was able to make himself available for Saturday pickup! We took a walk around the car took a look inside. We spent no more than 10 minutes reviewing and signing paperwork, received my keys, and I was off with my brand new car! Both Kim and Chris were great to work with and I have no hesitation in working with them again for future car purchases.
