Lousy customer service--I'm a builder who frequently rents heavy lifts, tractors etc. for construction projects; go to Sunbelt.

When we heard it was sadly closing down at the end of the year, we made a special trip just to stop in here. It's a beautiful store with more than just gardening supplies. We picked up some toys for our cats as well as some Christmas ornaments and postcards as memorabilia. And I especially love how despite Luis the store cat passing away over 10 years ago, you can still find lots of references to him around the store. Really wish there was a way to save this place. :(

No matter the time of year I love visiting Downtown Home & Garden. My previous review stated, "I love any store where I can get tulip bulbs, a new bird house, a winter hat shaped like a Christmas tree, a new cookie sheet and a loaf of Zingerman's bread" and all that still rings true. But these days I also add national parks merch, gear for my dogs, holiday decor, kitchen gadgets and cookbooks and, perhaps most exciting for a Polish broad like myself, a variety of Polish pottery pieces. In the spring and summer months I can be found perusing peony bulbs for my garden, hummingbird feeders, bird seed and squirrel proof bird feeders, planters, plants/starters for my veggie garden, pest control and fertilizers, plus a variety of lawn decor and sculpture pieces, etc. Some things can be kind of pricey but you truly get what you pay for. Even after years out in the elements everything I've bought for my yard here is still in amazing condition, my plants from here always yield the most delicious fruits and veggies, and the little birdies are so happy with the snacks we provide them from their bins.

And it's a good house. But it is on a corner lot and it has a lot of sidewalk. I mean, a lot of sidewalk. The older I get, the more shoveling hurts. Plus, I feel like clearing snow is something I should be able to do myself, instead of hiring it out. Much like mowing the lawn. Call me old school. Long story short, I needed a snowblower. So I went online. I did some research. I thought long and hard about my snowblower needs, my budget, and what kind of person I actually am. Turns out, I'm not someone who wants to mess with internal combustion engines, or gas tanks, or carburetors. Which means I wanted a battery powered snowblower. After finding the Toro single stage snowblower, I happened to stumble onto the fact that there was a local shop where I could buy one. Thank you Google (sorry Yelp) because I'm still new to Michigan and Ann Arbor and had no idea the Weingartz was even a place! So I picked up the phone, spoke to a lovely man, told him what I wanted, and gave my credit card number. I asked about contactless pick up, and when I pulled up, the gent wheeled my brand new snowblower out into the parking lot and loaded up in my car. No muss. No fuss. Easy peasy. And priced competitively with the big box stores, all while buying local. The machine is wonderful. It throws snow like a champ. My back is happy. My wallet is happy. My neighbors who walk are happy. My community is just a teeny tiny bit better because I kept my purchase to a Michigan based business. I hope it lasts for a thousand years. But if it does not, I'll go back to Weingartz first and pick up the latest model.

I found this pumpkin picking spot somewhat randomly, but like that it's really close to where I live (convenient!). It's just outside of town such that it feels like a rural/farm area and experience, but convenient to get to. It's relatively no frills - a great option if you're really just looking to buy pumpkins at a good price without much additional fanfare. They have them organized by price/size so it's easy to browse and find what you're looking for. The selection is really broad, both in terms of size and look! They also have a cute little photo spot. The overall size of the place is pretty small, lends for an efficient pumpkin selection process. (No walking through big patches trying to find the perfect pick.) Not a lot of parking, but guessing this place isn't as busy as some of the other pumpkin picking spots where there are a million other activities too. I was one of two people there when I went. There's an attendant for purchasing. One thing that intrigued me when I visited - they had a small plot with a bunch of sunflowers (at/past season end). I wonder if they sell sunflowers when they're in season. Something to check out next year!
