My recent situation was a 'simple' repair and upgrade requiring a lift, and a 4 wheel alignment. So I found Auburn Service Center by referral from my smog guy (Thomas at California Smog). Took my car in for inspection and an estimate ... shocker ... a mechanic 'building up' the repair costs? Rich tells me there are also some 'other' things needing replacement (a bent rear trailing arm and a front sway link). Rich SHOWED me his concerns and sure enough it was just as he said. Final cost ($398.15) was still below the $450 - $600 I was expecting to pay and it included the additional work. Bottom line is, I have no reservation using Auburn Service Center for all my future repairs, possibly including some I would typically do myself. Oh, and my car now drives straight as an arrow with hands off the wheel, so it was a good alignment.

They replaced the timing belt and water pump for approximately $1200 and I was satisfied with the work. My parents had been customers here for a few years and were happy with their work as well. I came in one year later, October 2024, to have the braking system serviced. They inspected the braking system and made recommendations, and additionally informed me that according to the sticker on the engine I needed to have the timing belt replaced. I told them that it had been replaced a year prior, and that they were the ones who replaced it. I was actually embarrassed for the service person whom I had to explain this too and offered up the excuse that the engine compartment is pretty greasy, and their new sticker probably just fell off. Awkward. Embarrassing. They replaced the front brake pads and informed me that the driver's side rear axle seal was leaking and the rear brake shoes were contaminated with "oil". They recommended replacing the axle seal and replacing the contaminated brake shoes. I agreed. The work was done for $735. Six months later I came in to have some work done on the front suspension, replaced upper and lower control arms and ball joints on both sides. At the same time, they pointed out that the driver's side rear axle seal was leaking and recommended that the brake shoes be replaced as they had been contaminated, the same repair they had made less than six months prior. I just assumed they were talking about the other side, so I told them to go ahead and do it. $607. May 2026, six months later, the exact same problem is back. I can't get my head around it. It's not hard to imagine that someone is dishonest, and might lie about an unnecessary repair, but you would expect that they would at least have the courtesy to make up an unnecessary repair that is different than the one they performed six months ago. Fucking retards!

Joe answered my call quickly and provided an estimate, and could be available as early as next day. I was initially a tiny bit worried about some of the reviews I read about scheduling/showing up, but Joe put my worries at ease and communicated with me within a reasonable amount of time and showed up when he said he would. He and his partner were communicative, kind, trustworthy, knowledgeable and skilled at what they do. They worked on our car repair in the pouring rain with no complaints! I would recommend them again and again and again. The mobile aspect was extremely appreciated and so valuable - we didn't need to worry about a tow or timing logistics to get the car to a shop before they close (because come on, most people work!)
