We came here and ordered online given the large line during a weekend event near the capitol building. Wish we went up to the counter to ask about our drinks, when we ordered it said a 30 minute wait for the drinks but when we went up to the counter at 30 min they only started making our drinks then. FYI if you're doing the online order, ask up front if your drinks are being made in the first place - they will preferentially make the in person orders first apparently. Other than this - we got the 12oz chai latte with half sugar and cinnamon with oat milk and a matcha latte. For any dairy free milk drinkers, looks like they only offer oat milk as an option but it is an up charge. All in all excellent drinks but a very popular and busy place on weekends. read more

I'll give some bullet points: Likes: - Vibes/great place to work and have some quiet activity happening around you. Definitely not a silent place to work if that's what you need. - The food that I've tried has all been good, on the slightly pricier side, but not surprising being in such a good location on the square/in the middle of the Farmers Market during that time of year. - The Charred Scallion cream cheese. A yuppie's dream coffee playground! From the brilliantly made latte art to the clean balsa wood mod decor Wonderstate definitely knows what it's doing. It fits perfectly nestled right on capital square. I got the Vanilla Bean latte and the flourless fudge cookie. The art was beautiful (see pictures) and the latte was pretty yummy. The cookie was a dessert oof it filled me up and was very very rich. Basically like a glorified cakier piece of fudge. The prices seem very fair all around too! Now about this decor: the exposed light bulbs, the sharp lines of light wood. It's great for when you're in the "light coffee with my colleague" mood but probably not for "chilling with a homie" or "hunker down and do work" kinda mood. They have these cubicle chair things that are just 90 degree structures and very uncomfortable to sit on. TLDR: go for the latte and that clean minimalist vibe! Really my only gripe was the blasted uncomfy chairs. read more

Superb location right off the capitol square. Bright, light and spacious interior with a simple, mindfully curated menu. Not a whole lot of frills here but as a person who prefers a cup of black coffee each morning, I appreciated the functionality of the menu (100). Sweet merch selection including logoed beanies and stickers. Ample seating along large windows lining most of the space. Seating is a bit cramped and can be a tight squeeze depending on your size or how many layers you have on but once you're seated, it's fine. If you don't feel like sticking around - grab your coffee/drink to go and grab a seat along the square or stroll along its perimeter for nice city views. All in all, this was a nice, quick stop while we were out and about. Satisfying drink and reasonable prices. read more

Arguably the best coffee in Madison. They have a nice range of food options in the pastry case, and on the daily menu, also specific vegan choices are great! Ambiance is a medium bustle. Huge glass windows let in a ton of light. It's nice to be in here. The seating is arranged with specific spots seemingly meant for sitting on your own, and working on your laptop. One warning: If you're in a hurry restrict your food choices to the pastry case. Don't get food from the kitchen. They are painfully slow. One of the cutest coffee shops in Madison (definitely the most expensive). Wonderstate is a great coffeeshop right on the capitol square. It's decor is simple, crisp, and bright. I love the large amount of natural light! The food here is delicious, and I recommend the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Bagel. The coffee is also good, especially if you're looking to try something new and playful like an espresso tonic or a maple latte. The menu is a bit limited, however. They don't have Italian sodas, for example. It's also very pricey--I might have ordered their 3oz macchiato, but I'm reluctant to pay $4 for a 3oz drink. In summary, this is a really good spot near the capitol for a visit. Expect a limited menu and high prices. read more

I had had Wonderstate coffee in Milwaukee for a few years before they closed that location last year due to Covid. I was so surprised and happy to know they opened this new location when I asked the volunteers for Farmers Market where to get coffee and they all told me that I should go check out the new Wonderstate. Wow what a cool spot! Came across Wonderstate Coffee this morning while walking around the farmers market. The staff was really friendly and helpful! We ordered a maple latte and a vanilla bean latte, both flavors did not over power the taste of the espresso. We ordered a chocolate cookie which was soft and packed with chocolate. What a nice little visit I had. The bright, fresh, clean space was very inviting. The menu serves your vegan and gluten free friends so everyone can come. Normally I need to sweeten my lattes, but the maple oat milk latte was perfect on its own, beautifully poured into the cup. With beautiful interior decor and a sleek exterior, Wonderstate checks all of the boxes. Their lattes are simply amazing, and they get most of their pastries from Madison Sourdough (do NOT skip the chocolate croissant. seriously). I went with my husband and son on a rainy weekday morning. We all enjoyed our drinks: cafe Au lait, iced caramel latte and a decaf latte. The bagels were fresh and delicious. The decor is crisp and bright with lots of natural light, plants and light wood tables and chairs. We didn't buy any goods, but they offer a nicely curated selection of coffee, mugs, accessories and shirts. I really appreciate the environmentally friendly use of ceramics and stainless utensils.
