I so wish I hadn't seen a staff member come out of the restroom and not wash his hands (it's a communal sink for everyone). Writing this right at the start in hopes that management sees this. Aside from that, this is such a *wondrous* and welcome addition to Emeryville, which had lacked any kind of brewery up until this point! It's in a great area near a few other local businesses and they offer a specious outdoor seating area and a few tables inside. We dined in their outdoor area during their first week of opening and it was about a 45min wait (we just killed time at the Public Market nearby). You simply give them your name and number and they text you when your table is ready (you have 3mins to get back to claim it). Their staff were all very friendly and welcoming. They had 7 beers on tap when we stopped by, ranging from a lager to double IPA. They don't offer flights, but you can combine a bunch of tasters to make your own flight. My friend and I wanted to try a brewery we've both never been to and found Wondrous Brewing on Yelp. What a great neighborhood spot! It was off the main street and tucked in between some businesses and housing complexes. The interior of Wondrous Brewing had a sleek and modern look. I loved that the place had a dog friendly patio, which I will definitely note for next time since my friend and I are both dog moms. Although Wondrous Brewing didn't offer food besides snacks, bringing outdoor food was welcomed and a taco tent by local vendor was available on premises. Wondrous Brewing had one of the biggest IPA selections I've seen. They don't offer samples, so you have to purchase taster sizes. We tried 2 Ten Euros, Arrested Decay, Body High, Double Cuff, Drab, Lurkside, Raveyard, and Stoney Limits. They had some dank IPAs, which I enjoyed, but as much as I love IPAs they didn't stand out to me that day. My favorite beer at Wondrous Brewing was Drab, their porter. read more

After a short trip to Gilman, which has fantastic beer all around, I decided to try Wondrous on a whim. Not knowing too much about the place other than location I decided to get a flight of their beer, limited to 4 different types. This was decided after a complete taster fail from a Roseville brewery that I will not disparage here. I ordered a flight of all their beers, I think a taster called The Wheel which was about 15 beers and only 3 were drinkable. Yeah, that's like 1/5 or 20% or 0.20 success rate and that's being generous...lesson learned! The flight of 4 was the 2 Ten Euros, Triple Cuff, Dot In The Sky, and Janet's Brown. The first beer was a czech (sp?) pilsner unfiltered and quite tasty. I think the unfiltered process gave the pils a bit more body than other pils I've had recently. Clean, refreshing, and perfect for summer sipping. Next was the newly released to the wild Triple Cuff. This triple masked the ABV very well and I enjoyed the full bodied bat out of hell and unapologetic Triple! Very flavorful and a kick in the pants. The next was a more balanced Dot In The Sky which was a nicely balanced IPA, West Coast and more traditional in flavor. If you know what you want out of a West Coast this is your go-to beer. Finally Janet's Brown which reminded me of Newcastle, but I think this was more of a mind trick just because I have a nostalgic affinity for true Newcastle Brown before they had to sell out to a conglomerate. If you were drinking Newcastle before 2005, you probably were drinking the original recipe that was outstanding on draft.Janet's reminded me of that missing place in my flavor profiles as I enjoy a good brown on occasion. The website says American Brown so I'd like to learn more about the English Brown versus the American style. Hence the fun of learning about beer. Overall I truly enjoyed this brewery, its local vibe and state of the art facilities. I wish them continued success as it seems this place is doing it right with a purpose. It seems I find much of Berkeley this way where even in commerce people want to know the "why" behind what you are doing to make a buck. You get a good vibe from Wondrous Brewing as they discover their place in the community while selling quality beer at affordable prices. read more

Absolutely fantastic beer! Some of the best in the Bay, for sure. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Personally, I like fresh air, and preferred the front door open. I get the feeling the staff did as well. Same with the guy in the wheelchair who had to have the guy sitting next to me open the door for him tonight. Just my 2 cents. As at least a couple others have mentioned, I was part of the dog debacle that ensued following our run club meetup here Tuesday night. I think the most important takeaway is not what caused the situation, but the incredibly poor way the staff responded to it, period. No one is saying it was OK or acceptable for my friend's dog to bite the bartender's shoe, least of all my friend/dog owner herself. Said bartender replied to another review claiming she neither took accountability nor apologized for the incident--this is patently false. If the staff had not been so worked up into such a hostile tizzy, they would have heard this but instead drowned it out with their yelling and their friends' completely unnecessary insult hurling. She's "lucky he's not pressing charges"? Are you kidding me?! For teeth marks on your shoe, dude? I'm very sorry if you've had a negative experience(s) with dogs in the past but this situation simply does not rise to the level of rage that they showed paying customers who brought in tons of revenue for them on what would've been an otherwise very slow night. I'm sorry if you were frustrated with the crowd size and that made your job more challenging, and you felt the need to take it out on some people with a nervous dog... good thing you earned an insane amount of tips for a Tuesday--that should help ease your distress. I can count on two hands friends of mine who have vowed to never set foot in your establishment again over this. read more

Every time I am in the Oakland area I have to stop by Wondrous. I moved to the Bay Area four or so years ago and this place is the epitome of perfection as far as breweries go. Great location, beautifully designed pour room with great music always playing, it's hard not to want hang out for hours. The new mural on the wall is gorgeous and if you catch them on the right day that have amazing local food pop ups there! Staff is always super kind and helpful, and make you feel like you want to hang around even more. Not to mention the beer selection is top notch. "When the Poet Dies" one of the their limited batch barely wines, is probably one of the best things I have ever tasted. If you're in the Oakland area do not pass this place up! My only feedback is do more food pop-ups if not bring in a permanent kitchen so I can be there even more! Much love! read more

The head brewer at Wondrous really knows what he is doing. The beers are incredible. I've seldom enjoyed a lager, but the rice lager Wondrous had a few months ago changed my outlook on this type of beer. Could be considered a bit overpriced and I don't know why they charge for tasters, but you're paying for quality here so it's fair enough. I just make up my mind without the taster. I would take the one star reviews about a canine-related incident below with a grain of salt, as the staff has always been friendly and respectful when I've gone. read more

The brewing scene in Emeryville feels like it's growing quickly and I'm happy Wondrous Brewing is now part of that. I've stopped by twice since they've opened and I'm a huge fan of the brewery's ambience, as well as their beers. If you're an IPA lover, you're going to be a huge fan of their beers. If you're looking for a wide variety of stouts and sours, you'll have to look elsewhere unfortunately. On a nice sunny day, the outdoor patio is such a nice area to hang out in With umbrellas over the tables, I feel like I could hang out here for hours. Feel free to bring along your dogs as well, as I've observed many guests doing so. Parking in the area is relatively easy to find, and the area feels pretty safe. I would certainly stop by again. Such a fun place! It was an easy location to get to, and even on a warm day, the outside patio was comfortable. They've done a nice job with the patio seating, and there was ample seating indoors if you want the air conditioning. Service is quick, and you're able to bring in outside food if you want to have a flight and get some nourishment. The prices are reasonable, and you order tasters by the glass rather than a curated flight. That's a great option when you know what you want to try. I really enjoyed every beer I tried, including the IPA which was unusual. The IPA was smooth and not too hoppy, and refreshing while I ate my warm food. Went here for the first time the other day and it happened to be the last day of SF Beer week. For starters the place is very very clean and nice, almost gives off a cafe vibe with outdoor seating. Looking at the taps and the menu, your notice there aren't that many to choose from like some other breweries but for a good reason, the beers they have are amazing. For sure some of the best beers I have had and great consistency across the board. I started off the night with Sleeping Chamber (unfiltered west coast IPA), then Eternal Echo (which was a darker beer but was really smooth), then finished my night off with an award winner that beat Pliny the Younger, the Triple Cuff. Out of all the beers that I tried and love the Triple Cuff was for sure my favorite and left me wanting more. Only thing that I did not like, which was understandable, is I was unable to get some Triple Cuff to go nor was I able to get the DDH Creek Park, but just means I will have to return again to hopefully try them. So overall, good people, good vibes, great beer and really good atmosphere. read more

We came here before and were served by one of the owners who was lovely and made us feel really comfortable. Even though it's a 30 minute drive, we've returned since we enjoyed our experience. Good beer and chill atmosphere. However, we had a visit recently where the employee ("Jackson"), who took several minutes to take anyone's order so he could finish up conversations with a friend drinking at the bar, immediately condescended us and proceeded to be rude to not only us but every customer who also walked in (including a mom who just asked for a glass of water...). We enjoy the beer here and for a newer brewery in the area they really need to reconsider who they put up front as it will continually put people off from returning. read more

The beer is a good, and it is a brewery so that counts for something. But I got three femur-sized bones to pick with the spot: 1) They charge you 3.50 for a taster! If you're a brewery, you should be letting people taste something before they have to order a 9 dollar beer. and I mean for free! That's just courteous. 2) If you could order a "Generic Brewery Furniture Starter Kit" on amazon, Bezos would send you the metal picnic tables and barrel high tables that you are made to sit in at this spot. It feels an investment company realized that the beer bubble is booming, and there's an easy profit to turn: Step1 - sell expensive beer Step 2 - Minimize all extraneous costs. There was no soul at this spot. You're in the east bay! Get some rad folks to build you some seating! Don't make me sit a school lunch table. I'd rather sit cinderblocks. 3) They put a 7 ft high solid black fence in front of the spot, that is impossible to see through. You can't even look at people walking by while you drink! It is one thing to ask someone to leave, it is something else entirely to loudly declare through the whole bar that someone is being kicked out, line people up to identify one's target, and brag and sing that one needs to leave. Staff of this place needs to learn tact and to treat customers with respect.
