Traditional noodle spot seatings you'd expect: come in and seat yourself. They got the fermented cabbages and cilantro toppings on the side for you to add. Chili oil, vinegar etc. everything you'd expect . I got the hand pulled beef noodle soup . There were a lot of intestine style soups too so if you're into that this is a spot worth giving a try. Portions were good and soup tasted great. Think my only problem was that noodles weren't bouncy enough for my taste especially for hand pulled noodles. Service is what you'd expect out of any other Chinese restaurant. Nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about. Food came fast and you don't need to tip here. Back in New York for a little bit! We walked over from my grandparents home and honestly, I wasn't expecting much at first. We walked right past it and then walked back. It kind of looks like a more run down store and was decorated very traditionally. There were a few people scattered throughout the restaurant and the waitresses were very nice! They mostly speak fuzhounese which was no problem for us but they understand english when ordering food. We ordered a lot of food! We ordered 3 roast duck hand pulled noodles, 1 pork chop hand pulled noodles, 1 spare ribs hand pulled noodles and 1 peanut butter noodles. Everything was only $52! The peanut butter noodles came first and we shared it with the whole table. It was amazing! It reminded me of my childhood. We each got our noodles and we were surprised at the amount of food there was. Don't let the pictures deceive you. The amount felt like it never went down. 8th Avenue's Chinatown doesn't have the vast diversity of hand pulled noodles that Flushing's Chinatown have but over the last few years, a small collection of competing hand pulled noodles specialty restaurants that have opened up around this neighborhood. Wong Wong Noodles is one of the older ones. The restaurant is nothing fancy. Just a mish mash of bare white walls, cheap wooden tables and chairs, and a giant yellow menu on the wall that is all in Chinese. Don't let that deter you from walking in here as they do have paper menus with English as well. Just be aware that most of the people working here speaks mandarin so some pointing at the menu might be in order if you don't speak the dialect. They have table service here. Order and pay at the cashier, then sit down at an open spot in any table and they will bring the noodles to you when it's done. Don't be afraid to sit next to a stranger since they don't have private tables here. For anyone dining in, despite the table service, no tips are expected. No really. I'm not being cheap. They actually have a sign by the door that states this fact. Don't see it? Yeah, neither did I since it's in Chinese only but no one else around did during my time eating here, and one of my friends that does read Chinese told me that's what the sign out front said. The noodles are hand pulled in the back when ordered so it have a nice chewiness to them. The broth is light, beefy tasting, and flavorful enough to compliment the noodles. I ordered mine with oxtail, and although the quality of the meat was good, they were a bit skimpy on the amount given and it could be meatier. The soup also comes with a small amount of bok choy swimming in the broth. I highly suggest you take advantage of a container of pickled preserved vegetable that you have to ask for. Not sure how you'll do that is you don't speak mandarin but mime it if you have to. I have provided a photo of it in the tips section of this business on Yelp if you need to know what it looks like. Maybe show them the photo if you have a smartphone but do get it to go with your soup. Not an ox tail fan? They carry noodles with many different meat toppings.a few examples with be steak, duck, lamb, intestines, and even rabbit. The prices for these varies but they run anywhere from $4 to $6. Pretty cheap. Although I had only the noodles this time, I saw that many people ordered the steamed dumplings here. It's only $3 for 10 and something I'll look into the next time I'm here. So why a 3 if I like the place? Although good, I can't give it higher because I know there are places that are more deserving of 4 and 5 stars for hand pulled noodles in Flushing and in Manhattan. A tupplewear of pickled mustard green is passed around between tables and everybody shares adding some to their soup noodles. People eat with plastic disposable spoons and takeout chopsticks. They don't serve you a drink when you sit down. Nobody tips. Service is prompt but not touchy feely. Most of the customers appeared to me as 8th Avenue locals. I could hardly even spot any affluent bridge and tunnel Chinese peeps eating here (after street parking their Lexus suv of course). This wasn't the type of place you wonder regarding their sanitary practices or whatever. You block those thoughts out and rely on your instincts when presented with the food. The beef noodle soup was really delicious. This place serves Lan Zhou style Chinese food, which is famous for its beef noodle soup. Noodles were cooked perfectly and very elastic. I don't think the noodles were hand made on the spot but still good. The beef was tender and flavorful. In sure they have a giant pot of meat simmering in the back and marinating flavor into it continuously. The place is very busy which made for really fresh food. The tupplewear of mustard greens tasted pretty fermented which actually to me was a good thing. The pork steamed dumplings were very legit too. I sometimes question the meat quality of dumpling shops but it tasted good and it was fully cooked. They had interesting things on the menu including rabbit noodle soup. Maybe next time... Or not. Prices were amazing. 6.50 for a delicious noodle soup and 3.50 for dumplings. I didn't like that they default to serving your hot soup noodles in a plastic disposable tupplewear. I wasn't sure what the latter was at first by my father explained to me that it starts out as a ball of dough in which they scrape it down with a knife into little thin pieces which will be the noodles. When I got there I was starving so I ordered the Seafood hand pulled noodles and my father ordered the lamb and beef peel noodle. The food arrived in sufficient time which was about 15 minutes. I was a bit worried that the noodle was served in a plastic bowl because I know how hard it is to wash off the oil from plastics and isn't it a bit hot to put in a plastic bowl? The good part about the noodle from view was that you can barely smell any MSG at all so I just assumed the MSG level must be low. It was from this experience that I learned that I'm not a huge fan of hand pulled noodles. The soup base was as the Chinese would call it "mama de" or just okay. I wasn't crazy about the seafood that came with it. There were three shrimps and about five clams with shells. There were three shrugs of bok choy for flavoring and color. My fathers noodle was also served in the plastic bowl with chunks of beef and lamb meat. My father complained that the peel noodles were undercooked and that the soup base was just "mama de."
