So not sure what happened to this place but it has completely downhill, New faces for sure, must be under new management or a new owner. It's a shame because I have been coming here periodically for over 10 years. Mainly cause of the convenience as it is right next door to my longtime trustworthy Mechanic "Riverside Car Clinic" which is in no way affiliated with this Smog Shop. With that being said, I have lived my entire life in California and am aware of the Strict smog requirements for this State, However I have never in all my years and over 25+ vehicles that I have personally smogged, had a Shop deliberately hook up my vehicle and run an official smog test fully knowing that its going to fail?? This is due to when a vehicles battery is disconnected for any reason the cars onboard computer systems including the emissions systems all have to recalibrate and come back online before it can be properly tested. 3 days earlier this vehicle (my wife's) battery died and AAA came out to replace it. Different vehicles on-board systems will come back online faster than others, usually 50 to 100 miles have to be driven but some can take longer. The main thing is, if even just 1 of these individual systems/computers isn't online or "ready" it's a guarantee fail no matter what. In a normal situation such as this, a smog shop that has any integrity or wants to do good business within its community would simply inform the customer of this an ask them to come back in a couple days or pickup a cheap $20 OBDII code reader to check yourself etc. The bottom line is there are many options that could be done, but instead this so called "technician" who I have never seen before goes through motion of hooking the car up etc, when he himself can see from the get go that not all the systems are online and its going to fail, so why bother wasting our time?? Now it's on me as I completely forgot about the battery being changed days earlier but this shop an its tactics in this scenario is just plain BAD BUSINESS. Shame on them, They have probably done this very thing to so many un-suspecting people and to top it off they charged $31 for their half A$$ attempt to try and smog it, and then they told me I can bring it back and re-test for another $40 what a racket. Well as you might have guessed, I am never going back here, they lost a customer forever. I'll take my 3 cars and motor home elsewhere for my smog needs. I really hope the Manager or Owner of this place see's this review. Please ask yourself is measly $31 really worth losing a loyal customer for life? If you continue to conduct business like this, especially within this community, trust me word of mouth and reviews like this will circulate and you won't have any more customers. The worst experience I've ever had getting my truck smogged he told me I failed because my battery had been disconnected 2 days prior to getting my truck smogged. Instead of telling me ahead of time that I had a problem, he ran the truck knowing it was going to fail smog, he told me it was my responsibility to let him know and then laugh. The smog shop across the street told me if I would have brought it over to them they would have done a PreCheck and warned me about the problem before they would have tried to smog the truck. Very unfriendly shop I highly recommend that you do not go here they will scam you if they get the chance. Update: I did bring my truck to Woodcrest Auto Service that is just across the street, very polite and friendly. they took my truck get a pre-check within 10 minutes I was paying for the smog check and on my way to the DMV. Would be a 0 if I could. My registration required a STAR smog check which I didn't know the difference between STAR and regular smog. Took it to this place, the guy did the test and it failed. He charged me 55.00. I asked him what I needed to do to pass the test. He told me to take it to a STAR station and they would fix the problem. I later found out that Woodcrest was not a STAR and the guy wasn't honest. He did the test anyway to make money knowing that his certificate wouldn't do me any good even if my car had passed the smog test there. Never again going there! read more

I have been coming here for years and they are always busy. It probably doesn't help that I usually have it smoged on weekends. I usually call ahead and ask if they are busy and the answer is always no. Even so, most times the wait isn't long. Each car usually takes about 10 minutes. My car only took five minutes. If your car is 1999 or newer, they just check the computer and they don't have to hook it up to the "dyno". Each smog is $55 and the staff are always very friendly. I recommend this place but I took off one star because it looks like a shack and you have to sit in plastic or folding chairs. read more

Horrible experience. Bought my car used 2 years ago and it passed smog no problem. No changes since, now this guy tells me I have the wrong catalytic converter? How'd it pass last time? Don't take your car here read the reviews. He did the same thing to me as others he takes your money knowing that it will fail but doesn't tell you until after. He is they type of business we don't need in our city. Gives all automotive places a bad name. Go straight to a star rated shop. Save yourself time and money. My brother referred me to Woodcrest Smog. I called to get an estimate for my car. Chris the technician who works there gave me a price quote, I asked him if there was a coupon, since many smog station competitors have coupons, he said; Yes. When I got there, I waited a little because he was with another customer. As soon as the other customer left, Chris took care of my car and I was ready to go in 15 minutes He also applied the discounted coupon to my purchase and sent my smog test online to the DMV. This young man was very courteous and professional not only to me but to the other customer as well. I will definitely go back when I need a smog check. I gave a 5 star because of the work I received from Woodcrest smog the only drawback that I could see was there wasn't enough parking, the building is small and sits on the corner, right next to a muffler shop. Brought two cars here for smog check. One passed, but other car did not. I was charged $47 and was told I will be charged another $31 for each retest. They will not explain charges to you prior. When asked why I'm charged for a failed test and why I must pay additional fee for retest, I was told "That's how we do it here." I will be taking my business else where next time. read more

So I have been coming to this place for the past several years and liked the service up until today. Basically I had cleaned my batteries and disconnected my batteries to clean the posts. When I came to Woodcrest Smog to get my smog done the employee started to the process of my smog certification. He then stopped the test and proceed to tell me that I had a computer check still being done on my vehicle and my vehicle did not officially pass. He recommended that I put about a thousand miles on my odometer and return to see if it finished the self test. Mind you I have never had an issue with passing my smog test and ever having the dreaded check engine light.. So he not only charged me the original fee of $55.00 but also a $31.00 retest fee. So when i posed the question of why didn't you just tell me to not test it and just drive it. His statement to me was that the State of California will not allow him to do so unless I ask for the test to be done.. So then I told him that was horrible customer service and honestly very shady to do business like that! I will never come here again! read more

I went to there a couple of days ago to get my car smogged. There were 2 men at the shop as I patiently waited for them to check me in. I stood there with my DMV paperwork clearly in my hand, but NO ONE said a wordto me. They were talking to the guys at the other shop, on their phones, and they even smogged 2 cars right in front of my face! I am a very patient and understanding person, but you do NOT leave your customer standing outside for 20 minutes without saying a word! I decided to go to another shop the next day because even as a broke college student, I would rather pay $12 more than give my business to this place! read more

Your experience will depend on when you arrive. If you get there and they are open and no one is ahead of you, you will have a good experience. But if not, it may try your patience. First, there is not much space for parking if there are more than a couple cars ahead of you. And although many websites say Woodcrest Smog is open Sundays, I went there on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 10:30am and they were closed -- no sign, nothing. So it pays to call ahead to see if they are open. I returned the following Saturday and although there was only one car ahead of me, the person there spent his time talking with another person who did not even have a car there, instead of dealing with the driver ahead of me. I went to another test center close to where I had to do other errands. By the way, failing a smog test is not the test center's fault. If a car has had recent service, or if the battery has been disconnected within the last few days, it might not be able to pass a smog test until the vehicle has had several warm up / cool down cycles or has travelled some distance. An Actron or similar OBD II reader can be used to make sure the sensors are in 'ready' status. Most smog test centers charge no matter what the result is, so checking the sensor status in advance can save time and money in the long run. read more
