Katherine and Mitch hosted a workshop for us to make 8x8 woodcut maps. It was an incredible experience. It's amazing that they have found a way to streamline this process such that laymen and commoners (like myself) can walk in, spend four hours working, and then walk out with a gorgeous and unique woodcut map. I would highly recommend signing up for a workshop if you have the chance. They provide all the materials and you start off with laser-cut pieces of wood. Then you lay them out, set, glue, vacuum, power sand, cut, tack cloth, and finish with Good Stuff. We had so much fun and they were the best teachers ever. You can see they really care about each piece and each student. A seriously fun friend outing or date day or solo venture, and I will definitely be ordering more pieces from them (at least until they offer workshops to make the bigger ones!) read more

Went to a private class with Woodcut Maps as a team-building event with my coworkers... oh my, what an AMAZING experience. We all had a wonderful time, and each went home with a breathtaking piece of custom-designed art. Leading up to the event, Catherine (owner) was incredibly professional and responsive, answering all of our questions quickly and efficiently. It was so easy to set up our event and iron out the details, making this a pleasant experience from the start. We had a blast designing our custom maps before the class, using the online map editor to choose our locations, wood types, and markers for points of interest. Once we submitted our designs, we knew we were going to end up with something unique and special to each of us. And then the class came.. Catherine welcomed us into her beautiful home studio and led us through the step by step process of wood map-making. We told stories about our chosen locations while crafting our maps, which was an engaging and satisfying process. At the end of the ~1.5 hour class, we were absolutely stunned to see what we had made. Each piece was beautiful, elegant, and personal work of art. Came here for the couple's map workshop and it was a great experience! Definitely recommend. The workshop was really fun and the wooden materials are high quality. I came in with zero experience and walked out with a 8X8 laser-cut map of the location of my choice. The actual laser cutting isn't done during the workshop. You just piece together the map parts, glue them, etc.. so it's simple and straight forward. The workshop itself was well-organized and only had ~five other couples, making the experience more intimate. Halfway through the workshop, you get a lunch break and mini wine break. The gal leading the workshop was also very friendly and patient. The business is currently operated from someone's home (not an actual storefront).. so don't be taken back when you first enter! read more

Woodcut maps is an awesome event! We did it as a work event for 16 people but I think it would be fun to do for a birthday party as well! it's really wonderful how you can pick a map anywhere in the world online and Catherine will come prepared for you to assemble the map you chose. Searching for an anniversary gift for my wife (traditionally, 5th anniversary gift are made of wood) I came across Woodcut Maps in my search for something unique. I was debating ordering a map through their website, and found that they offered classes, where they give you the materials, tools, and instruction necessary to build a map. I'll admit I was a little apprehensive that they wouldn't turn out as nice as the examples I saw on the website (since I've failed miserably at other DIY-projects in the past) but I can report that they turned out pretty darn close. Catherine (who ran the class, and is also an owner of the company) was great to work with, the instructions and workspaces were organized, and the process explained clearly, making the entire project extremely approachable and fun. I cannot recommend their products or classes enough: whether you are a map junky, need a custom gift for someone (either purchased, or going to a session and making it yourself) or just want to try something unique, THESE ARE THE PEOPLE TO GO AND SEE. read more

I took a private team-building event class with Woodcut Maps and had the MOST AMAZING time. Our event had about 4 people, so I believe it's great for a range of group sizes. Designing the map was SO fun--from the different map area selections around the world, to the types of wood one can use, to the size/layout, to the markers--my creative energy was high and my excitement/anticipation levels even higher! At the actual event, Catherine (the owner) was so kind and accommodating--offering tea, water, etc! She had all the materials for each member's project already prepared and labeled. Her organization is on point, so there was no confusion or concern before diving into the project. Assembling our maps was an incredible experience. Catherine was there to explain each step along the way, as well as answer any questions or concerns we had regarding the steps (wood, sanding, etc.) She was not only great at explaining and facilitated the experience, but she was also very patient. I felt at ease and did not feel rushed at all. Not only is the experience so unique and fun, but I was able to walk away, feeling accomplished with my own BEAUTIFUL custom map!
