This is one of the best spots in Bethesda. The decor gives a dark steakhouse romantic kinda vibe. You know exactly what you're getting when you come here - great food and even better service. It definitely books up so I'd be sure to snag a reservation - walking in is nearly impossible. Even trying to grab a spot at the bar on a week night is first come first serve, and there's not much room! Something I don't love about Woodmont is you can only get a table of 4 people max, no exceptions. I wish I could have come here with my entire family, but I would have been forced to pick my favorite 3 Lol While they don't make any menu abbreviations or changes (no espresso martinis :( oh well) - the crush with pressed grapes and mint is my absolute favorite. You have to start with some sushi - the Osaka style pressed roll is the best, but I've also enjoyed the spicy tuna roll and the tuna mango roll. I would say my favorite item on the entire menu is a sleeper pick - the kale rotisserie chicken salad is to die for. I would lick the plate clean - something about the roasted peanut vinaigrette and the elevated chicken!! While the fried chicken sandwich is often only available for lunch, if you can snag it you should. The French dip is the best sandwich on the menu, although the cheeseburger has caught my eye as well. If you have any room left, their soft serve with fudge pour over is the best! The service here is top notch - expect your martini to be reputed into a cold glass half way through, your drink order to be taken and ready before you even meet your server, and the crumbs to be wiped between courses. This place has been around for a very long time, maybe over 30 years. It's still one of the classiest places in Bethesda for lunch and dinner. For all this time, they always have their spinach dip, ribs and Houston's Hawaiian ribeye on their menu and for good reason. Whenever I come here for dinner, you can count on me ordering spinach dip to start and having either the ribs or Houston's Hawaiian ribeye. Now, I wish they didn't get rid of their fries and loaded baked potato, not sure what their logic is behind that. It's not like potatoes are expensive. For lunch, I really like their crispy chicken sandwich and cheeseburger. It's been in MD for a while but decided to finally pay a visit after seeing it go viral online! Had 7:45 reservations but it was a busy Friday night and we ended up getting seated at ~8:15. Management was kind enough to comp an app for us which was much appreciated. Apps: Decided to give the sushi a try but knew it was a red flag when I could tell the rice was not seasoned at all! (No rice vinegar, 0 flavor) The tuna in the tuna avocado was fresh but stick to your local sushi restaurant instead and skip the hefty price tag for a basic roll. Also got the spinach artichoke dip. For how much people raved about it, it was good but nothing crazy different. Mains: Had to get the French dip and crispy chicken sandwich! Both were tasty, I liked how warm the au jus stayed in the little tea pot. We had spicy mayo and house seasoning to accompany our fries- special ingredient in the mayo was sesame oil which was interesting. Overall, vibe is great for a night out. I remembered Woodmont as a diner, now it is Woodmont Grill. The menu did not have a lot of options, it had Sushi, burgers, steaks, crabcakes; etc.. Because the options were limited i ordered a chicken sandwich (I don't normally eat sandwiches), which was crispy, flavorful but the ratio of chicken was 3 to 1 buns to chicken. The straws fries were super crispy and perfectly salted. Waitstaffs were nice and the place was cleaned, cozy. I didn't like the note on the menu where it said: "when you are done eating please leave we need the table for other customers". We were four women who get together maybe once in four or five months; not a place to sit around and catch up. We left within an hour and half. read more

Talking about three strikes especially if you have a child and that's all they want. What the heck man. And where is their club sandwich? Houston's Hawaiian thankfully is still on the menu and can be ordered during lunch. It's the best dish here imo, which my wife and my sis-in-law ordered. I was craving prime rib sandwich which did not disappoint, with the exception of the fries. Please bring back the shoestring fries! I like the ambiance of this place but the lack of tables seating more than 4 people is a letdown. The party in front of us was quite disappointed they had to sit at the bar counter to seat 5 people. Not a good place to go for large parties! Our server was very nice and no complaints about service. They even have hot towels by request, which was a nice touch. I was craving some delicious sushi, so we stopped by Woodmont Grill and sat at the bar. We ordered two jackrabbits and rolls. The Osaka style pressed sushi was so delicious, my new favorite item. The food is always great here. My friend loves their cheeseburgers. I love their fish. We got the spinach dip appetizer which was really good. Reminded me of Houston's from long ago. Service is exceptional here. My arctic char was delicious. Tenderly cooked. The rock shrimp was good too. I'm not really a coleslaw fan as I don't really care for mayo. Came in for a late lunch/early dinner, and the restaurant is packed. Service is good but food wasn't that great The pressed sushi which they are know for, was good but nothing spectacular. I ordered their tuna tartare and it was very one dimensional. It was missing some acidity. Kinda flat My husband order burger and I ordered their special which was flute fish. They didn't tell me it was breaded and almost like deep fried. Nonetheless, it was extremely buttery. I didn't want to finish my entree. I switch out their coleslaw for their kale and that too was flat. Since I couldn't enjoy my dinner, I took half of my husband's burger. Honestly, I can get the same burger, somewhere cheaper. Overall it was disappointing. We had a gift card which was told that it was used already at their other location. The manager said it was claim at water Park restaurant which is weird bc the gc was specially for their restaurant. We didn't redeem it, so it was extremely weird. The steak is tender, juicy, flavorful, perfectly cooked to temperature and seasoned to perfection. The fries are freshly hand cut and hot hot! We all hate cold fries and these were fantastic. We came here for a late night dinner around 8pm on a Tuesday night however we called ahead to see if they had any tables open at the time and they said they didn't have any available seats until 9pm but we could sit at the bar for full service. At first we debated if we wanted to do that for a while before coming in. But when we did (we never mentioned we called ahead when we walked in) the bar was completely full and they had a lot of empty seats in the dining room which I thought was strange as it contradicted what the host mentioned on the phone (I'm guessing because of reservations? But the dining room was pretty much almost empty except for a couple tables) The host ended up seating us right away in the dining room even though we didn't have a reservation though. We ended up having the Brussel sprout as an appetizer, which I felt could have cooked or roasted a bit more as I like them to be a little more crispy. The sauce they paired with it was pretty good and we ended up keeping it. We also got the Caesar salad with the fried oysters, which was pretty good but it wasn't anything special just like any traditional Caesar salad. The oysters were a nice touch as they tasted pretty fresh and I would recommend trying it. The barbecue ribs (which we ended up getting since they were out of crab cakes) were very good alternative as the meat was super tender and literally just fell off the bone. It had a nice barbecue with a subtle smokey flavor to it. The last entree we got was the Hawaiian rib-eye and this was my one of my favorite dishes from the night. The sauce was semi sweet with the subtle pineapple flavor from the marinade and it was cooked perfectly (median rare) and super tender and easy to cut into, which is often not the case compared to most places I've been to. My second favorite dish was actually a side which was the cream corn, which I was hesitant to get at first but the server was actually the one who recommended and I'm so glad I listened and paired really well with our entrees. Service was fantastic, our waitress was super helpful in selling us on the specials for that night and in recommending any dishes for us to try. They were super attentive in making sure to check up on us frequently throughout our meal, and making sure our water glasses were never empty. 10/10 service as we never had to flag anyone down for anything and made sure we were happy throughout our whole meal. Personally, even though I thought the food was pretty good and I loved the service here, the price of the food just doesn't make it seem worth it or anything special to me to want to come back or recommend it for others as an absolute must try place. There wasn't anything overly special about the food that could make me justify coming back to spend $50-60 on a steak but it was definitely a nice experience. read more

There is a clear and apparent lack of organization in regards to bar seating as it was evident that anyone could make their way to the bar and that putting a name in is completely arbitrary. Wasn't worth raising a concern. Was told 15 mins. Waited 35. They were busy. It is what it is. What is a bit confusing is serving an entree with an empty ramekin when requesting for creamy horseradish on the side. Why not serve the food with all of the items requested when ordering? It was just a but annoying having to follow up with the waitstaff after the food had been brought to the table obviously missing an item. Server offered no explanation that is on the way. Manage your patrons expectations. I would recommend giving realistic wait times and communicating if there is an item that requires more prep time. Make it easy on your patrons. The fact that we were left to have to follow up on our dish made this experience less than ideal. read more

I had a good experience here. The crispy oysters were great. I usually eat oysters raw but the crispy ones here were good. The Hawaiian rib eye was delicious. If you're going to eat a steak here I would recommend the Hawaiian ribeye. It was juicy and had great flavors. The true Dover sole was also tasty. The Atlantic char was decent. It tasted somewhat like salmon but I wish it had more of a sear and not as soft. I also liked the Manhattan cocktail. The server was friendly and helpful. I recently had lunch at Woodmont Grill and frankly as a lifelong resident of Bethesda I did not even realize the place was still there. We had just had a little snow squall so the restaurant crowd was sparse so there was plenty of places to sit. The hostess sat us and we were greeted by our server and she was very pleasant. It is traditional dark wood and dark and needs a bit updating and these days just staying in business is the priority. We had some sushi and it was just ok - a little bland and it really did not come with much wasabi or ginger that is usually with sushi roll or two. I had a cheeseburger and it was good, but the bun was so soggy from the burger and the tomato that by the time I was nearing the end the entire burger fell apart - the fries were ok even after asking for extra crispy. It is a nice place, but if I had another choice I would easily choose the other - it's a bit tired and likely better at happy hour because of the nice open bar area. read more

The ambiance is very intimate which is very much appreciated. The menu is very classic which I believe definitely helps in retaining the original taste of all their meals. I had the Hawaiian steak meal with mashed potatoes and (something green) which was a mixture of sautéed spinach, Brussels and some kind of aged shredded cheese. The mashed potatoes were so rich and creamy and I loved them so much! The steak was so succulent, which the perfect taste of sweetness and also savory. 3.25 overall is being generous Wednesday noon and was told I needed a reservation or that we needed to eat at the bar. Surprised to need a reservation that early mid week. Maybe the new Marriott HQ next door is impacting dining volume? At the bar Cynthia was the wait staff --which I learned because I introduced myself and asked her name. She was not about to offer or introduce herself. She was not the typical friendly eager to engage staff I am accustomed to here. A bit serious and formal. Cynthia asked for my credit card "so she could start my tab" which was and remains odd and off-putting to me. I came for lunch, and I didn't order alcohol, so why do you need to take and hold my credit card to serve me? Is this a new restaurant policy, required of all diners? Serious question. Also fyi, they won't take cash payment. It was supposed to be a special occasion lunch and didn't fell that way. My companion ordered ribs and a double order of fries rather than the fries and coleslaw that come with this entree. We had to ask for the double order of fries when a single size was served. We both asked for ketchup and had to ask for that again before it was received. I had asked for the spicy mayonnaise dipping sauce and it never arrived. When it was time to box leftovers, I was handed boxes to to box my own (is this how it works at the bar? It's not how it works at a table) rather than having it boxed for me. I ordered the Hawaiian Rib eye which was not in the lunch menu with a side of fries and sautéed endives. The endive greens were overcooked and not seasoned well. Exchanged them for coleslaw. For $50 the ribeye was flavorful although I could only eat a little of it before I was full. The side dishes are an odd lot. That a small salad or baked potato is not a side offering is a bit annoying. I wanted a side kale salad and had to paid an extra $13 to add it to the $50 (not $35 as listed somewhere here) steak, for lunch. That's all I've got to say. We'll Woodmont Grill is about as close as you can get to the former Houston's. Birthday's, Anniversaries, and holidays too, you can find us celebrating at Woodmont Grill. The food is phenomenal and the service is always good. Yesterday, my granddaughter and I enjoyed a birthday lunch at Woodmont Grill. We started off with the spinach and artichoke dip. It is served with fresh crisp, warm, tortillas chips. They also serve it with rich sour cream and salsa. It was decadent and delicious. For our entrees, we ordered hamburger and fries. We both ordered our burgers at the medium temperature and mine was a little underdone. More like a rare, than a medium. The shoe string fries were crisp, hot, and tasty. There was a ton of them. The burgers were huge too. I ended bringing home half of my burger. Carolina, our waitress was very good. She brought out extra chips for our leftover spinach dip and was very sweet. I was a little disappointed that she did not bring out a birthday dessert for my granddaughter. So, I took off a star for the underdone burger and lack of birthday dessert. I mean if you tell your server you are there celebrating your granddaughters birthday, you would assume they would stick a candle in any of the desserts to help celebrate. One thing that I love is when a steakhouse has sushi on the menu. It usually is very good in my experiences so of course I tried a few rolls. I had the tuna mango roll & the rainbow roll. Both dishes were delicious but I liked the rainbow roll a little more. The French Dip & the barbecue ribs were outstanding. One of the best French dip sandwiches I've had & the ribs say "Fall off the bone" which isn't necessarily true. We all know that "Fall off the bone" just means overcooked but these ribs were perfect. Came here with an out of town visitor for work and they were highly impressed by the ambiance and "patriotic" feel also, for what it's worth. Personal favorites are anything chicken - rotisserie chicken, kale salad with chicken, chicken sandwich, etc. ; all stand out in a competitive Bethesda market particularly the sandwich. Sushi is slightly overpriced but presentation and quality is great and not many if any better options nearby, and burgers / steaks / ribs are good as heavier go to options. There was no one at the host stand when we walked in and Cynthia helpfully cancelled our reservation since we decided to sit at the bar. Food runners and bar backs were all professional. bar: Only three beers on tap: Stella, Chimay Triple, and Bell's Two Hearted. Those seem an odd draft selection to me? I drank Bell's Two Hearted ($8) and it's an solid, reliable IPA. Lots of house cocktails and wine available. food: I started with oysters ($20 as of 8/2023). It's five fried oysters with what Woodmont terms "cowboy vinaigrette" on top and a quasi-mayo/tarter sauce/aioli underneath. The oysters were quite good. I had the French dip with fries ($26) and my wife had the veggie burger with Tabbouleh ($20). My French dip was excellent. The fries were - somewhat surprisingly - fairly average. The veggie burger gets a bit lost under what Woodmont terms, "fully dressed" burger toppings. The Tabbouleh was pretty heavy on cucumber for me, but my wife said it was OK. Details: At the bar, they take your credit card when you first order, then hold your credit card until you ask for your check. Restaurant is designed for parties of two or four only. Space is beautiful with dark wood. There is outdoor seating, but it was too hot in August. It's all street parking. Not a problem on Saturday afternoon. The rub is this restaurant has decided to require reservations with ur credit card holding it. Otherwise you wait 30 plus minutes for a table or eat at the bar. The bar wants to start a tab by physically holding ur debit or credit card. Their rationale--to assist the cashless paying system won't cause issues when time to pay and not being stiffed by customers. With so many fraud issues with debit credit cards, this makes the customer at more risk to reduce their risk. So I will spend my money elsewhere. read more
