My friend brought me here for a happy hour cocktail. We grabbed a seat at the bar. The cocktail options were limited and we ended up just going off their regular menu. I had trouble deciding and the bartender gave me a good push in the right direction. I got the lavender heart. It was beyond excellent. Would love to come back and try more drinks and food.

Their lump crab cake and potatoes were truly delicious!

Now if you're looking for an upscale but chill vibe then Seventh State should be your next stop. The atmosphere and their attention to detail is incredible and the food is delicious with a wonderful presentation. And I have to give a personal shoutout to "Yuli" because she not only did an amazing job making sure things were handled perfectly, she also brought positive energy and an enthusiastic smile to the evening ( Thank you Yuli ) This is definitely one of Bethesda's best kept secrets and somewhere I'll be frequenting as much as possible ( ** They can step it up on their drinks ** )

Amazingly good food, service and ambiance. Highly recommended! It's also quiet and very romantic, for that special someone in your life. Visit and see for yourself!

Good food. Great ambiance. Friendly staff. The bar was centrally located between the restaurant and front lobby with lots of indoor and natural light. Since it was late afternoon, we chose bar seating. Our orders were taken quickly. While we waited, water was served. I ordered the Margherita pizza and an Aperol Spritz. The pizza was delicious. The crust was perfect and the overall flavor of the pizza was amazing. The drink was strong, but quite refreshing. The bartender made an alternative suggestion for the drink, if I decided to order another. Since I did not order another, I will remember the suggestion for another time. The bar service was outstanding.

I've been to Seventh State before just for the dessert. The Smith Cake is incredible, but this was my first time actually sitting down for a meal. My daughter and I stopped by to celebrate both of our birthdays. The plan was just to grab dessert like usual, but she suddenly decided she wanted lunch instead. We were greeted by a really kind hostess who suggested we dine inside, which ended up being perfect. Our waitress, Makayla (I hope I'm spelling that right!), gave us amazing service from start to finish. We ordered the hot honey pizza and it was absolutely delicious, sweet, savory, with the perfect kick. What really stood out this time was how warm and welcoming everyone was. The staff made us feel genuinely taken care of, and it turned our quick dessert stop into a really memorable experience. I'm still a little sad I didn't get the Smith Cake this time, but the pizza was totally worth it. Next time, I'm definitely starting with dessert!

    Cobb Salad???!?!

Le sigh. This place really nearly gets four stars. 3.444...It's the little hotel restaurant that could. It's patchy in the service and food and high in ambience department. Someone less bougie and fluffy than me might love it. Caveat: I'm going off memory. I meant to review it sooner but got busy. Let's begin. Prologue: we all got distracted at our table because we had to feed meters and walk more than a football field length to park in different areas. We collapsed into each other's arms having completed two rings on our watches. Dranks: Pretty. Good. Most weren't pretty and good. Some were interesting and inspiring and others tasted like lemonade. Definitely a boss move to have an ice cube stamped with the hotel name! So doing that when I get rich. Food: People besides me got fish dishes and liked it. No licking of plates or soft moans, I noticed. I got the fried green tomatoes. NOM! Great presentation and tasty. Just not abundant. But I anticipated that and also ordered the Cobb salad. Head scratcher. Looked weird in front of me, like it was the wrong salad. Trying to be Beyond Cobb made it worse. Corn and ribboned carrots and bunched iceberg lettuce was memorable in a bad way. Like my salad said, "Let me be great" and someone said, "NOPE!" I now recognize my strong feelings for Cobb salad as a barometer dish of a restaurant's simple competence, like a burger or pancakes. So it was a belly flop, not a swan dive. Service: very friendly and even warm, but it turned sporadic. We weren't the easiest customers because we kept running around Bethesda to pay for parking. But that combined with service lags had us lingering til we really really had to get back to our lives. We did quickly make it to the scenic rooftop and enjoyed the bathroom like toddlers about to get in trouble. Very pretty "endroit" and I would go more for a lingering drink and people watching "see and be seen" vibe. I would not be going to stack my colon with tender vittles and stiff drinks. So this won't be a meal spot for me but I'm very glad I tried it. Best for someone who can drink a beautiful drink slowly or has little tolerance and eats to live. OR a place for me to vibe at after having eaten.

Tens across the board! Good service, great food, and excellent atmosphere! The scallops are decadent. The sweet potato purée perfection. It's awesome food, never miss the mark!

Beautiful restaurant space in Bethesda across from the Marriott International. My blackberry mimosa was delicious! Has had steak and eggs, the steak was prepared very well! Was a tad disappointed coming in because I'd had my sights set on chicken and waffles that were advertised on their website and instagram, but wasn't available as it was a seasonal offering. Had very nice servers who accommodated us with a baby and were nice enough to take our photos.

    Kale Caesar with added chicken

Gorgeous gorgeous place! I got a kale Caesar and it was super yummy on a Sunday, but we learned the kitchen closed at 3pm - which the website didn't state :( . Keep an eye on the price stated on the menu versus what comes up on your bill. My added chicken was charged $5 extra and the waiter said they need to update the menu prices. She honored what was on the menu and changed the bill-great service.

Entertained two business conversations here on a recent visit and found it passable as a spot if not ideal due to struggles with service and high prices. From the other reviews/pictures, their dinner is far more to write home about, but their coffee and breakfast is not. Took us forever to be served and even longer to get the check. When I'm running from meeting to meeting in the area, that's a big deal. Bonus points for lovely, comfortable seating with plenty of 2-person and larger tables to choose from.

Finally dined here and had a great time! I've had this place bookmarked since first visiting Hip Flask (the rooftop) some months ago. I'm so glad I visited and I can't wait to come back. Service by Griffin was amazing!!! Hands down, one of the best servers I've come across in a long time...maybe ever if I'm being honest. He was easy to chat with and so helpful. I would come back here and personally request him. That's how great he was. This 5 star review is mostly attributed to him. The food was good. I had the cornish hen for my meal, but I especially enjoyed the chimichurri sauce. I even asked for extra on the side. Sooooo good! My date had the flat iron steak cooked medium well and he enjoyed it. I like my steaks cooked medium. On my next visit, I'm getting the bone-in ribeye! I had the "Columbia Crest" red wine and it was a generous pour. I've had this wine before and I loved it. Glad it's on the menu. They also offer wine by the bottle. For dessert, we shared the banana bread pudding - it was good, but nothing I'd be pressed to try again. Overall, just a great vibe in here. On a warm October evening, there were patrons sitting outside! Parking wasn't hard. Street parking as well as a garage directly across from the hotel/restaurant. This isn't a cheap date type of place but totally worth it just for the ambiance. Thank you Seventh State for a great evening.

I've had this review in DRAFT for a while, to allow time for rumination as to the final rating…read more.. On the one hand, there are some very positive aspects to Beth's, situated in downtown about a 10 min walk from the Bethesda Metro Station. Turn off Old Georgetown Road onto Fairmont Ave, and the first thing you encounter is a beautiful outdoor patio for al fresco dining and a large bar. The colors are vibrant with a focus on Southwestern earth tones; very reminiscent of a cafe you'd find in Sedona. It was still on the chilly side when my dinner group gathered, so we opted to sit indoors. There is a small waiting area in the foyer, and then a moderately sized bar, which leads into the main dining room. TBH, the design asthetic of the space is a bit of a "mishmash." Is it supposed to be European inspired? A continuation of the Southwestern motif? It's all a bit odd... We had about eight in the party, so staff pushed together two tables for us. We were greeted promptly and were told that the restaurant could accomodate individual checks, as ordering is done with handheld devices. My other observation about Beth's is, I'm not quite sure what "story," the place is trying to tell. The menu focuses on "Bites," which could be interpreted as "appetizers" and only has four "plates," aka "entrees." Our server mentioned while awaiting our orders that Beth's wants diners to share the "Bites" with a spotlight on their cocktail selections. So is Beth's trying to be a tapas bar then? I opted for the recommended Purple Rain which consists of Gin, lavender, lime; mostly because I LOVE a nice herbal Gin. The distinctive flavor of juniper berries from the gin was present, while the floral notes from the lavendar and citrus of the lime balanced out the drink. I was pleasantly surprised. Food started arriving after about 20 min, and visually the barley risotto was quite appealing. Instead of short or medium grain rice, Beth's uses the ancient cereal grain barley. It is slow cooked in stock to produce that slightly chewy, yet not undercooked mouth feel. USDA choice braised beef short ribs was stewed until fork tender, and the dish was finished off with Parmigiano Reggiano, and butter. For $24, the plate was a good portion size and very tasty. I dunno. I sampled some of the small plates such as the Brussel Sprouts, crunchy ravioli, crispy spring roll...and everything was fine. Not outstanding...not terrible...but just fine. The kitchen seems to be competent, so it would be interesting to see a menu where more main dishes were offered for diners who want a more substantial meal. The other thing I'll note is, due to the extremely high ceilings, the main dining space is a deafening echo chamber. I was hoarse by evening's end, since I was literally yelling over not just the background music, but the other nearby diners. Just keep this in mind that if you're seeking a quiet and cozy spot, either dine outdoors or come early. After some reflection, I settle on 4 stars. Service was good with water glasses constantly refilled, dirty dishes removed, to-go boxes offered, and the ability for separate billing. Price wise, for one alcoholic beverage, and one entree my tab with tax and tip came to a bit over $50. Automatic gratuity was added for the table since we had over 5 people. I appreciate the server informing us so we didn't "double tip."

The egg rolls were perfectly fried and delicious with the homemade sauce, and the fries were crispy on the outside while still moist inside. Trey was also a great server and definitely one of the highlights of the visit. The restaurant itself is beautiful, especially the outdoor seating area. The patio is bright, inviting, and honestly a much better atmosphere than the inside dining space. Unfortunately, the music inside completely took away from the experience for me. The restaurant has a dark/lounge-style vibe indoors, so the music really matters. Something more universal and upbeat like Motown, 80's pop, or feel-good music would match the space so much better. Instead, the playlist was loud, distracting, and honestly made me ready to eat and leave. I was also surprised that there was no happy hour offered, especially with such a great outdoor setup that seems perfect for after-work drinks and appetizers. Overall, the food and service (thank you Trey) were solid, but the atmosphere inside and lack of happy hour would probably keep me from returning regularly.

This is such a perfect spot for either a date night or a fun night out with friends. The speakeasy vibe, the chic atmosphere, and the music (a smooth, chill house mix) all come together so effortlessly. Plus, being open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays is a huge bonus. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time - this place stays busy for a reason. From my previous visit, I remember having a ravioli dish, what I believe was a braised beef, and their sliders with duck fat fries - all of which were incredible and clearly memorable since I was thinking about them for months. The sliders paired with those fries were honestly a standout. This time around, we had to get the duck fat fries again, and they were just as phenomenal as I remembered. The cheesesteak oysters were easily a 10/10 - fresh, meaty, and honestly surprising coming from someone who used to not even like oysters. We also tried the grilled octopus, which was well-seasoned (as expected, slightly chewy), and the fried calamari, which was light, not heavy at all, and paired perfectly with the sauces. The tuna tartare was another standout - super fresh, soft, and practically melted in your mouth. For drinks, we went all in. The Dirty Diamond martini with blue cheese olives was great, though if you like your martinis extra filthy, I'd recommend specifying that. The Hemingway Special had a nice subtle sour kick, and the vanilla mint espresso martini was strong (you can definitely taste the alcohol) but still smooth and frothy. The Mary Pickford with Malibu was surprisingly delicious - almost like a mocktail. The Paloma was solid, and the Code Red cocktail gave me slight cosmopolitan vibes. But the real star was the dulce de leche espresso martini--absolutely unforgettable. What really ties everything together here is the service. The staff - from the hosts to the servers - are attentive, welcoming, and genuinely elevate the experience. Overall, Code Red is one of those places you keep coming back to. If you're looking for a stylish speakeasy atmosphere with great food, drinks, and energy, this is it.
