In January of this year, I got a bill for my oil for over $1,100. My normal bill has always been around $600 to $700. With that, I called around to 3 different companies to find out what the price of oil was. I was shocked to find that the price was well over $1 a gallon more than the companies that I called. After I paid the bill, they called to set up a time to refill my oil. I told them not to because I felt like they were price gouging. I told them I was upset because I did felt like they over charged me. I wanted to check around for better prices. I also purchased a service plan with them. I called them today to look at my hot water heater and was informed that they had closed my account and could not send anyone out to look at my heater. I asked them about my service plan because I still had time on it. They let me know that it was all or nothing. So, they also cancelled my service plan. The person I spoke to said that they can't come and work on my water heater if they aren't the ones putting the oil in. So I just learned that in exchange for my purchasing oil with them as a customer with a service plan, I have to accept their prices even if it is well over $1 a gallon more than other companies or they will end the the contract. The person said that they couldn't because they don't know what other companies are putting in the tank. Well my dear madame, I wouldn't expect an oil company to put anything other than oil in my oil tank. You didn't think about that when you took me on as a customer. In any case, that is neither her nor there. I just want people to understand what they are getting themselves into. I put my trust into this company. I had no idea that they would over charge me. I also had no idea that I was suppose to allow them to continue to over charge me or they would cancel my maintenance contract. Thank you for finally letting me know that Woods heating. Now I know. I canceled my oil delivery service with this company because their prices are higher than pretty much any other company in Rhode Island... See previous review... I did however keep my propane tank with them. I only use propane for my kitchen stove... Therefore I don't use that many gallons every year (maybe 25-30 gallons at most).... Woods just sent me a letter in the mail stating there will now be an annual minimum gallon requirement fee of $99.95 if they deliver less than 75 gallons of propane in the prior 12 months. I could NEVER cook enough to make this happen.... Woods....the company the keeps disappointing. Now time to cancel my propane.....even though there still plenty in my tank. Love it. read more

Had a new $8,000.00 boiler installed several years ago by Woods and they installed a boiler that needs to be clean from the top and since it's in a crawl space the technicians can't left the top cover to clean so they have to go through the flute on the side of the boiler to clean, complained until I was blue in the face, but miss Woods doesn't care one bit, no sympathy what's so ever. I fired the company, and we are now doing business with Dubois oil which I'm very satisfied with. When Wendy Wood owned the business it was run like a family..all customers were treated wonderfully. We have been customers for over 30 years and this company has done nothing but go downhill since Petro bought them out. We had a new boiler installed and the men who broke down the old boiler were totally incompetent they left old pieces of the boiler, rusty junk all over the place. they never cleaned up and totally ruined so much of our personal property that we had to file an insurance claim against Woods to recoup some of the cost of irreplaceable items. The men who installed the new boiler never bothered to drain the pipes or clean the area so ever since they installed the new boiler and holding tank we have had sediment in our hot water which clogs our faucets and shower head. it actually looks like beach sand. they said it's our water..well, it's funny we never had issues before and have no problems when we run the cold water..just the hot...which comes through the boiler. We called them and they sent out a plumber to check it out..he did nothing and when he left the problem was still there and they quickly sent us a nice hefty bill for the plumber...even though we pay for the highest service contract they have..which I believe is over $500-600/year. Their oil prices are absolutely insane..over $5/gallon when the going rate for oil is posted as anywhere from $3.25-3.75/gal. what makes their oil so special? In the past we didn't mind paying a little extra for the wonderful service they provided but now there are certain servicemen I won't even let in my home anymore. They are disgusting. THEY DO NOT WEAR MASKS I don't care what their ad says or what it says on their website. Also, they give new customers all of the deals like discounted services, free oil, and the best oil prices and the long time, loyal customers have to call each year to try and get their price of oil lowered ....it's pretty disgusting. At 72 years old I should not have to beg for a lower price or a price equal to a new customer... or have to call for service on a brand new boiler over and over, beginning less than two months after installed an now 2-3 years later still dealing with the same problem...I'm totally disappointed with the direction Woods Heating Company has gone...totally downhill. We recommended them to many of our friends when it was owned by Wendy Wood...most of whom have now left them because of the sale of the company and how the service deteriorated and prices skyrocketed..and they, too, were disgusted that they had to call each year to get a lower price for their fuel. All I can say is we are very happy that we will be downsizing and definitely won't be paying $900 each time the oils truck pulls up to make a delivery..and if by some slim chance we have oil heat we definitely won't be using Woods. read more

And, they informed me of the available rebates including local and federal. I scheduled the install, they arrived on time, and they completed the job ahead of schedule. I'm very sad to say that since the Woods family sold controlling interest in their company to a larger conglomerate, their service has gone downhill. We have been customers for over 20 years and today we discovered that they had deliberately allowed us to run out of heating oil because of an overdue bill. We have paid for years on a monthly budget plan and have always paid our monthly bills on schedule. Yet because the paper bills that they send are always out of sync with the automatic payments, we fell behind; but we didn't realize it until the furnace wouldn't start today. There was NO WARNING about this either via phone or email...or even via a note in our mailbox. What distinguishes heating oil companies from one another is customer service, even more than the fluctuating price of oil. Woods was always great in this area. But since the Woods family sold out, this has declined, especially in the Billing Department. I will now have to look for a new company. I have always found the tech and service line people who work for Woods to be very good at what they do, like the tech who just left our house after priming the furnace with a temporary oil supply; but in recent years management, especially Billing and Sales, have noticeably declined. read more

We recently decided to replace our furnace, as our existing system was on it's last leg. Naturally, contacted our heating company, Woods, as we have always had excellent service from them. This was no exception. Process was easy and efficient. Got a great system installed in one day. Team was efficient, friendly and cleaned up so well, the basement looked cleaner after they left than it had before! I'm totally frustrated and disappointed with the response I received from Woods. However, I do want to make it clear that the technician they sent out was exceptional. The problem was the total disregard for my issue! On 11/20/23 I contacted Woods to request they send a technician out because the propane in one of my buildings was not working. The technician arrived that day in after approximately and hour he informed me that he had to bleed the line of air. When I asked how that happened he told me I must had let the tank run out of propane. I told him that I didn't think that was possible since I am on automatic delivery. He stated that since Woods let the propane run out there would likely be no service charge. In Dec. I received a bill for the service charge. I wrote an inquiry on their web page and received no reply. A few weeks later I called and spoke to someone in the office and she stated that someone would contact me. In Jan. I received a voicemail stating my bill was overdue. I contacted the office and asked that someone contact me since I had a question regarding my bill. That same day I received a call from (Larrry?). He stated that he reviewed everything and determined that the problem was not from running out of propane. I attempted that between the time the last propane was delivered I ran out of propane so after it was filled and I attempted to use the heater there was air in the line requiring the technician to bleed the line. He insisted that it didn't run out and that was not the cause of the problem. So here are the facts. On 3/23/23 21.3 gallons was delivered. I didn't receive another delivery until 10/16/23, 44.2 gallons. That was SIX MONTHS later. On 11/20 I called for service. I never used the building from 10/23 - 11/20. Clearly the technician was right and WOODS let the propane tank empty. So now I am stuck paying for a service call they created! read more

I guess they do not need any new customers by the way they treated us. As new homeowners we wanted to try oil companies before obligating to a contract. We tried Wood's and we ordered a second filling this past week. We advised that we did not notice until now, but we were under 1/8. They said if we were auto fill customers, they would be out that same day but since we were not, we had to wait 2-4 days for the delivery. I called the next day to advise we were closer to E then 1/8 and she advised 1/8 is enough oil for 4-5 days. I stated once again we were almost at E. of course we ran out of oil on one of the coldest days so far. We called a different oil company, and they delivered the same day without any contract or extra fees! Now that is the way to get new customers! read more

If there was a 0 option, I would have chosen that one. Very poor customer service. I have multiple properties with Woods and they don't seem to care about servicing their customers. I scheduled an appointment, was given a 4 hour window this morning (05.22.23)...paid for someone to be at the house, and when no one came within the 4 hour window, I called and asked for an update and they said, "we wont be able to get to you today and will call to reschedule." Not how I would expect to be treated nor would want other customers to be treated this way. But they are more than happy to take your money and service contract fees of several hundred dollars...
