My daughters and I took a trip on one of busiest weekends in the white mountains. We found Woodward's to open and welcoming. Indoor pool and jacuzzi my girls enjoyed every night we stayed. The restaurant and tavern gave great service and the food was delicious. I ordered the steak dinner with asparagus and French fries with truffles. The steak had a butter that had fresh mushrooms and herbs! The atmosphere was very chill and welcomed all ages. Very alluring to go outside and enjoy the lounge areas next to there ponds. We arrived late (near closing) on a Saturday night and the staff was kind and very accommodating. This was a big bonus as another place in town had just been awful. We ordered 2 kids mac'n'cheese (it was Kraft), fish and chips (underwhelming) and house salad (excellent!). To be fair, this place is known for their prime rib but we arrived too late and they were sold out:(. We would still go again because the service was so nice! VERY disappointed. I have been coming to this restaurant for about 30 years. The food and service has always been fantastic. Not any more. First of all, don't let the name fool you. Some genius decided to get rid of the "open hearth" and put a wall up. I would like to meet that fool. Woodwards was the only place in town with an open hearth and it was one of the best parts of the restaurant. Now, they are just another place without one. My children grew up coming to this place. Every time we came in, they would run over and say hello to Kevin at the grille. He remembered their names, and Lana behind the bar was just fantastic. Apparently they let Kevin go along with the open hearth, such a shame. Now, they don't even use that part of the restaurant anymore. They only use it for banquets I am told. You now eat dinner in the breakfast room. I ordered the king cut prime rib, the same I have been ordering for years. It must have been an extremely small cow for that to be a king cut. I have never received a king cut without a bone in it. Can't say that anymore. The food was okay, but not what I have been enjoying for years. Way over priced for mediocre food at best. The lemon wedge that came with my fish n'chips was all dry on the outside having been sitting someplace for hours as was the orange slice that came with my wife's order of steak tips. My wife's Cosmopolitan was bad and far too sweet. The server was far to gratuitous and a through back to the 50s calling my wife "dear". There are far better choices within a 10 minute radius for this type of food. My recommendation is keep on driving. read more

A bit fancy - but not too formal. Nice atmosphere. Family Friendly. They did add a "lighter fare" section to their menu (commented on by previous reviewer). Not too pricey for a touristy area. "Open kitchen" - all cooking on "display". (Then the food came). "Steak" tips were "whitish" in appearance. They were best described as resembling highly marbled fat. They were chewey to the point that they could not be broken down. After spitting two out into my napkin I sent the order back. Waitress was very polite and friendly - describing them as "pre-packaged", saying they should therefore always come out the same and that "people always love them". My belief is that they just plain and simple use cheap meat. Other food was highly mediocre. When a customer is this dissatisfied with a meal - wouldn't the chef or manager want to know why? My belief is they KNEW why - but in a touristy area - who cares? I'll be gone tomorrow and a fresh crop of unknowing customers will be here. read more

Terribly disappointed. Rolls and salad were good and then it was downhill from there We were with a group and I had ordered chicken parmesan with angel hair pasta. The chicken was overdone and the pasta was not angel hair but some tubular long thick pasta with a hole , over cooked and not drained resulting in chicken swimming in pasta water and jarred marinara sauce Additionally, our waitress behaved as if she was the guest and she was above anything we requested. Omg this is a bad place. We ordered our food and 3 other couples came after us and they all got their orders before us. The burgers taste like they're frozen patties. We stayed near by for a night to ski. We could walk to Woodwards and we were pleasantly surprised. While I think they could benefit from maybe adding some more lighter fare pub style options, I thought the food was good and the drinks were fine. I liked the bar area a little more than the dining room itself. I think that they need to embrace the après atmosphere a bit more. Stopped here on our way back from Vermont and in hindsight we should've kept going. For two people the meal cost $62 with tip. No drinks. Only soda water and plain water. No desserts. We both ordered the half bird with a side salad. My husband got a baked potato and I got rice. When someone orders chicken with rice and a salad with no dressing they are probably trying to watch what they eat right? Impossible with this meal because the half of chicken comes out FRIED! Personally I feel like that is something that should be disclosed. And it was dry to top it all off. This same meal (not fried) would be $9 at Boston Chicken and be just as good if not better. This place reminds me of a tourist trap and it's only redeeming quality is that the staff was super nice! read more

Horrible, first the wait for food was way too long, then it started with the not cooked bread delivered to the table. The waitress was great and trying to keep up but the kitchen was not helping the cause. The steak tips served to our table were bad, I mean smelled and taste like bad beef and they served it. Next the other meals at the table were horrible and way over priced. We wont be eating here again, apparently they fired the chef last year, maybe they should hire him back. This review has nothing to do with Woodward's Resort which is every happy camp memory you were promised. The resort has ducks and a pool and pinball - a delight. This "restaurant" is located on premises. There is a fireplace and it has an outdoor patio to get you all riled up like when you get a credit card for free airline points and find out later you are paying 35% interest and can only use your points for Wednesday trips to Dayton, Ohio. I ordered a side caesar salad and potato skins. The salad was fine. Some romaine, some dressing, $5.99 for about six bites but it was on the appetizer menu and we're on vacation and 50 feet from our room so okay! Then the potato skins come: these were very old baked potatoes which didn't get eaten in the last few seatings, cut in half, covered in flavorless cheese, and a phoned in continental breakfast bacon strip. The waitress who gave us constipated baby face upon arrival asked how our food was, frowning, seeing i had barely touched the food. I told her they were gross and she got very defensive. Went for our anniversary since it was up the road from where we were staying. First of all, verrrrry casual. We were sat right away and it looked promising. VERY disappointing! It's been "renovated" since we were last there in September & has lost all of it's charm! The chefs carving the prime rib in the back are GONE! We ordered Chicken Parm & a Steak. The Steak was "OK"...the chicken parm was AWFUL!!! The sauce was worse than ANY Jar sauce I've ever had! Here for the weekend. I'd give a 3.5 but can't. Service is the best attribute. Friendly, experienced and no time delays. Food was properly prepared but portion control is strict. If you get fries for the potato you get about six. The ribeye was thin cut and all the men on the table finished every bit. Not the Woodwards of old. We stayed at the inn and stopped at the pub on our last night. Very friendly staff and the gentleman bartender (I wish I could remember his name!) was excellent and made a mean dirty martini. We ordered a special appetizer which was mushroom caps stuffed with bacon, chives and cream cheese, which was excellent, how could it not be??? We also ordered potato skins and I tell you, I think these were the best skins I have ever had. Hmm...not sure why there are poor reviews. Maybe we hit it "just right"... We were seated immediately for a somewhat later meal (about 7:30pm). And it was "twofer" night for boiled lobster: 2 for $22! They were small, one-pounders, but we paid $28 a few days later in MA for what was supposed to be a 1 1/2 pounder that was about the same size as the one pounders here! Prepared just right (came out hot and juicy). Got a nice side salad with vinaigrette. Simple but good. Service was friendly and the place is very clean. There was 6adults and 1 child in our party. We decided on a few apps to start off.... 2 out of 3 they didn't have. So we opted for another. We should have just settled with nothing. I was feeling really bad for the waitress because she was so nice and had to run around crazy. They were so under staffed. When our food arrived it looked ok but I myself had the steak tips.... Completely disgusting. There was 4 small pieces. $18.00.I had a hard time cutting through them. My twice baked potato must have been made yesterday. Super super dry! Very quaint place. Went on a Saturday night and had to wait for 20 minutes. The server was friendly and helpful. We all were pleased with our meals. My wife and I had Cesare salad which was delishish. I had the surf and turf(steak & scallops) which was very good and my wife had a fillet mignon steak which was also very good. Decided to try Woodward's because it was close to our hotel. Our server was nice, but clearly not very experienced. My husband wanted fried shrimp but it was only available as part of a surf and turf or seafood platter so he asked the waiter if there was any way he could get only the shrimp. The waiter went and asked and came back and said yes. We thought, okay, this is going well. I ordered the entree salad with steak tips. Asked for the house dressing...was told they didn't have any made. Asked for raspberry vinaigrette was told they were out of that too. Settled on my third choice, only to find out later they actually did have the house dressing. Had to ask for all drink refills. None were ever offered. Our meals were just ok. The steak tips on my salad were overcooked but not burnt. My husband's plate contained six shrimp, a smallish baked potato and a side of canned corn. We would have left feeling ok about the experience but then the bill came. Because the shrimp was not on the menu, they charged us TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS for my husband's meal which consisted of 6 pieces of shrimp and that measly baked potato. What a huge rip off! I understand that made a concession for us, but the amount of food my husband actually got was probably one third of what is on the seafood platter. We were going to ask for a manager but were so put off by that point that we decided to pay the bill and leave and then let our bad review do the talking. We heard two other tables complaining about other issues (one lady was not given enough change when she paid her bill, the other's meal came out cold) while we sat there. One of the most disrespectful meals I've ever eaten. I'm sure the restaurant manager feels secure in delivering an extremely sub-par product because of their solid placement as the sole food source of what is otherwise a quaint resort. I ordered the bake scallops entree. The scallop portion was a bit skimpy for the price paid and the size of the scallops offered, but they were acceptable if absolutely unremarkable. The sides, however, were a different story. First off the flavorless gray-beige mashed potatoes, which I'm absolutely certain were at least a day old, were an insult. Are you really going to make me pay for old food that by any reasonable standard needs to be thrown away? And the broccoli--c'mon. Overcooked to sterile mushiness and completely unseasoned to any degree. I felt like the restaurant's manager's attitude is basically "F*** these people, they'll eat this garbage because the have no choice." Abominable. read more

Woodwards' restaurant needs a serious dose of better management. It's part of the Woodwards Resort but has plenty of front parking for non-guests. Right away things weren't going well with how unprofessionally the hostesses were running the host station. They seemed kind of out of control with no idea what tables were open to seating and how long the wait would be or who was next to be seated. Basically all of the baseline requirements of a hostess station, they couldn't really do it. The place did look fairly full and there were a couple of loud parties of guests in here. But after being seated it was a good 15 minutes before we saw our waitress. The waitress seemed very rushed and anxious. She got our drinks fairly quickly but the bottle of wine we also ordered was no where to be seen. I had to flag her down to get it. The food wasn't too much longer to come out but my dish was incorrect. The waitress had it solved fairly quickly but it was just another annoyance we had to put up with. The food quality wasn't all that great either. My daughter's scallops seemed undercooked and she got sick that night at the resort. Breakfast was MUCH better but on the other side of the resort office. The food came out quickly and waitstaff seemed a bit more on the ball. But I didn't really get the impression that the staff here is well managed or checked on. I even wonder if our waitress that night WAS the floor manager filling in as she seemed terribly inexperienced. I really hope Woodwards can do better. They seem to have a nice spot and space, menu seems decent but they just need real floor management and a bit better quality control on the dishes that go out. read more
