Wanted something different for breakfast, so I stopped by Woodys for a burrito. I got chopped meat (my guess is everything left from yesterday), potatoes, egg, and cheese. I'm new to the area and looking for a good bbq spot. I was in a class and Woody's was highly recommended. The loaded baked potato with a 1/4 side of your choice of meat was a favorite. I should've taken a picture of what was served as it looked horrible. If you think the picture in their site of the loaded baked potato is what you'll get, you'll be terribly disappointed. No green onions, maybe a tbsp of cheese, sour cream and butter. To top it off, the potato was old. I'm sure it was left over from the night before. Wonder what the health department would say about that. The ribs were good so that's why they get a 2. Shame on you Woody's! read more

We have eaten there quiet a times i always got the smoked ribs untill i found out they was supposed to sell a burnt end dinner the first time yes then they got to where they was just slicing a rib up and sayn it was a burnt end i got it again this evening the meat was sliced brisket and was either cooked to fast or to long it was very hard and also got a pound of ribs the meat was so hard n dry we couldnt even eat so i took it back up there and told them i wasnt sasfied and they all were looking and talking real low like it was my fault i bought 2 half pound of ribs and the only thing they would do was a half pound brisket no apologies they acted unprofessionaly we paid 39.dollars for owe meal no thank you nothjng there was a nother couple behind us there meal was high then ares i herd the lady order a small drink which they never gave it to her she went up to the counter and asked about it and they charged her for like 3.99 when i did here her order it we will never go back the ribs the we had gotten previously just fell off the bone but this trip made our minds up we dont know if they changed hands or what but we will not return read more

Woodys Smokehouse on Dermott drive will never have my business again. Well I can guarantee you that it's not good business practice to call a customer that pays your wages an old and an ugly Mother F er by an employee at the window. I placed my order at the window for 1/4Lb of pulled pork 1/2lb of Turkey Pint of baked beans Pint of potato salad Paid $33 dollars only to discover when I got home I had no potato salad. I took everything back with my receipt had to drive back and yes when I pulled to the window I was not happy. The fat bearded guy at the window opens it and said can I help you. I I first stated I was not happy because I had to come back. Also stated that my order was missing something handed him my receipt and the bag and said you tell me what's missing another employee walks up, and this guy tells the other employee that this customer has an attitude. He's rude as hell I hollered excuse me he opened the window and proceeded to tell me that I was f old, ugly, and stupid. at that point I told him I want my money back. We're done with Woodys that turned into a problem. Nobody could figure it out. The manager was outback working on his truck, which is probably why things were going to hell inside I just paid $33 for food. I only wanted what I paid for But at that point being told by the owner's family member is what I was told that I was old, ugly and stupid I was done. I had to go back into the store to finally get a refund and I'm gonna tell you everybody's gonna know and I know lots and lots and lots and lots of people. This is a great place for BBQ in the Joplin, Mo area! I really really enjoy the hot links as well the pulled pork! The ribs are very good but it wouldn't be my first choice at this location. It's run of the mill BBQ... I lived in Kansas City for about 20 years so I'm not overly impressed with Woody's. You should be able to taste the smoke but it just is not there. So all that your are left with is a pile of cooked meat. Don't get me wrong, I am a carnivore but if your going to do BBQ, do it right! And what is the deal with the employees? They all seem to be operating in full zombie mode. No personality, no smile, no thanks for eating here so that I have a job... They just kinda stare at you which is creepy. For BBQ in Joplin, I was super impressed! I wasn't sure what to expect since it's about 2-3 hours south of my favorite BBQ in the world - but the meat here is so delicious. Juicy and flavorful - although there isn't a strong smoky flavor. Pulled pork and brisket are delicious - and you can order sandwiches (they just had bulk meat on the big menu but they have a separate menu for dining in) Their sauce is pretty good but not quite as good as you get in KC. Their baked beans were a little disappointing - not the best texture and flavor development wasn't there. Next time I will try a different side. You can take out or eat in, and the atmosphere of eating in is exactly what you'd want in a classic American BBQ place. read more

Its located in a fast station and has that cheap ambience. It was dead on Friday at 6:30pm and they were already out of Brisket. Turkey was done well, not too moist or dry. Potato soup for side was only in a 6oz cup so by the time it was "loaded" I had 3 potato chunks and some watery cheese. Bananas in the Banana pudding were WAY past ripe to the point of yucky and the corn was cold. After spelling it all out I should have given it a two but the ONLY thing that bumped to a three was the meat they weren't out of being good. Sides and atmosphere are crap. Employees were friendly but seemed depressed to be working three... none of them seemed to enjoy being there. Chocolate cake was good but I'm pretty sure they bought it from Walmart across the street... maybe I should've given 2 stars... yeah, really it was only two.. read more

This is a convenience store/gas station/BBQ Joint all rolled into one. The BBQ is the largest portion of this business. We stopped for gas on our way from Fayetteville AR going up to Chanute KS to see my cousin. My sweetie went in to use the restroom and came out stating very matter of factly 'We're having an early lunch here.' I had to admit, the smell of the BBQ was making me hungry. They advertise themselves as 'Texas Style Barbecue with a Little MO Flav-r'. I gotta admit, the brisket was tender, juicy and smoked so fine my mouth is still watering almost a month later. I had potato salad and Texas Style beans as my sides. The potato salad was the typical commercially prepared stuff... not bad, but not great. The beans were kind of a ranch style that had the feel of fresh made, but had a slight 'can' taste to them. But ya know... it was the BBQ I was hungry for, and danged if it wasn't just ever so tasty. I won't even try to persuade to to go out of your way to hit this spot... as good as it was, it's not worth driving through the backroads of Missouri/Kansas to find it. Have you ever been to Rudy's BBQ? This is Rudy's. I know, it's CALLED Woody's, but aside from 3 letters it is exactly the same as Rudy's (believe me-- I've spent more time in Rudy's than I've ever wanted to). Exact same layout, same tables, same trays, same general store and gas station. Same roadside decor hanging on the walls. It either was formerly a Rudy's or is owned by the same people. That being said, I don't like Rudy's/Woody's. The meat is so-so. The "mild" BBQ sauce left my mouth and my friend's mouth burning and is watery. This is not the way Texas BBQ should be. I am Texan. I want tender, savory meat and thick sauce. Woody's ended up being a sad attempt at "going local" in Joplin. Hit it up if you like Rudy's, but otherwise there are 100 other national chains to choose from. read more

I love Woody's they have the best ribs we like to take our food to go and they make our food so FAST! The BBQ sauce is great. The Sausage is horrible and the chicken smells like it just died and the preserved it. The sides are not good either. I hate how the menu is right by the order window so it is more time consuming to wait for people to Know what they want. That you can find the best brisket, ribs, and spiced up beans in the four-state in what looks (at first glance) like a gas station just north of Joplin is unexpected. It is also great. Only in some local favorites in Abilene and Midland have I enjoyed the consistent quality I've found at Woody's. The moist brisket is, far and away, the best single choice. But, the jalapeno sausage and smoked turkey are certainly the favorites of some regulars I know. The ribs are also great, although more of this comes from the slow-cooked wonderfully smoked flavor than any sauce or coating. Typical of good ribs, there's less actual meat for the price, but oh the taste just might be worth it. The sit-down atmosphere is classic Texas smokehouse. Lots of "picnic tables," rolls of paper towels, free refills on soft drinks, extra slices of bread, the whole works. The barbecue sauces come in three levels of heat, but none of them is exceptional enough to warrant much comment (OK, just not great). If you've got a favorite or homemade sauce, either bring it with you or go for the carry out. We got a 1/2 lb of slice moist briskets, half a chicken, spicy sausage, potato salad and a couple of cold brews. The sausage and chicken was very good, chicken wasn't dry at all. This is by far our favorite BBQ in Joplin! It feels a little odd to be eating in a gas station, but once you get inside you quickly realize that it's a restaurant and the gas station part of it is tiny. I highly recommend the turkey and Brisket are awesome. So tender and moist. Just like good BBQ should be! The sides are just ok. My favorite is the potato salad. The two bean choices are sub-par in my opinion. Both of them have somewhat of a 'kick' and the Texas style green beans are just bleck! All this being said, we will for sure become regulars here. For those from Texas, it's a Rudy's Knockoff. Rudy's is okay but it's the McDonalds of BBQ in Texas. Woodys is a failed attempt to copy Rudy's. The decor and menu is basically Rudy's in every way. Heck, they even have gas pumps outside too and call out the orders the exact same way. The BBQ tasted old and mixed with ground beef. It's technically BBQ and has what looks like a functional smoker. Went there to grab some food and we say the "open" sign is on. So we go to the drive thru and check out the menu and the guy says they closed at 7:15 and its 7:30 on our clocks. What place closes at 7:15? So we comment that the sign was still on. The employee says "Ya, we should probably turn that off". Chicken, Ribs, Sausage, pulled pork and more.... they have 4 ways you can order your brisket: lean (generally NO fat), moist, in-between and burnt ends... I suggest the baked potato special! Their baked potato's are huge, smoked and amazingly good. I'm not a fan of their sides except the corn on the cob, however I'm there for the potato and meat yo! I also am not a fan of their bbq sauces but I don't smothering my smoked meat with sauce. The atmosphere is friendly, super causal and the place is CLEAN! I would have expected it to be very difficult to give a 5 star rating to any BBQ in Missouri. This was a no-brainer. My business partner and I just got back from a 3 day BBQ tour of Central Texas which began with Rudy's. For all intents and purposes, the IS Rudy's. Everything about it. Building, decor, layout, and, of course, the food. Rudy's in Texas is THE benchmark of Barbecue. Not the best, but definitely a great starting point for a BBQ tour. I am a die-hard Barbecue nerd. This is the best BBQ I've eaten within 2 hours of Springfield. Definitely worth an afternoon drive. read more

we ate here for the first time last week. it will be the last time as well. the food had a nasty taste, there was a generous helping of fat on the meat, and the meat should have been cooked much longer. the baked beans did not taste good at all. my wife actually got sick after eating this crap. the sauces are not even good. the "mild" burns your mouth, and the others are very watery. everyone who thinks this a great place for smoked and barbecued food has not compared other restaurants that specialize in the same thing. rib crib comes to mind. it runs circles around woody's. how anyone can compare this to real Texas barbecue is beyond me. if you don't have standards when it comes to how meat is prepared, then woody's is for you. however if you know what real smoked/barbecued meat is supposed to taste like look elsewhere. read more
