We usually try to make it to Woody's once a year when we're in Seward. Being an hour away it is nice to go for a drive and some Thai food. It seems that they change the looks and format of the menu every year, and when they do that they raise the prices as well. $18 for a chicken dish and $26 for shrimp is unacceptable. It's Alaska but c'mon, really. When they first opened the food was dynamite. Big portions and so tasty. Like you crave it!! The other day was a complete 180. We got the Holy basil w/ chicken and the gravy chicken. Our usual go to lunches when we eat there. The Holy basil was not flavorful at all. The chicken was not ground and the basil was missing. I had to put more chili's on it to make it good. Then the Gravy chicken. It came with what looked like bacon on it, but was actually Chinese sausage. Tldr - Stay away. Wish there was an option to rate lower! Service: Waited exactly 60 mins to get a table (which was shared with two other parties) in spite of being first on waiting list. The hostess and waitress (same person) who served us was super rude. It took another 15mins to get a chance to talk to her and place an order, and then additional 60 mins to get the first starter. Then there was no sign of our entrees until 25 mins after our starter was finished. Food: after such poor service, we were expecting the food to be good but of course, that was a mistake! Food was completely bland and tasteless - we ordered 5 different items on the menu and at then just relied on rice+hot sauce to fill our stomach. All in all, we got there at 6 30 for dinner and left at 9 45 pm (way past closing time) without the slightest satisfaction on service or taste. Not to mention we missed most of our after dinner plans due to this delay. The four tables around us seemed to have a similar experience. So I am writing this review after waiting for ~1 hour and 53 minutes for my food. It took me only a minute more to realize I was going to rate this restaurant negative stars, offer a negative tip (opportunity cost of sitting there and wasting ~2 hours). There is a special ingredient in the holy basil and the ginger dish - it's called tastelessness. Facial expressions' on other tables communicated the presence of similar ingredients. A good Thai restaurant was totally unexpected in Seward, AK. With that being said, I had the spring rolls and my go-to chicken Panang 4spicy. They are certainly generous with their portions and everything tasted fresh. Spice level was right on. The Panang had peanut sauce and was too peanut-saucy than I'm used to, but it was still tasty. This is Thai-"ish". The ingredients are mostly there but the flavors and preparation are not as found in more authentic Thai restaurants. Still, in a town such as Seward it is nice to have a choice beyond "seafood" and "American", so hats off to Woody's for putting in a good effort. As others have noted, prices are on the high side (pretty normal for Alaska) but portions are large. Also note that in our (limited) experience opening and closing times are suggestions only. Ignore what it says on Yelp, ignore what is posted on the door -- call ahead or just hope for the best. read more

Wasn't sure about thai food in alaska, but had a great meal here. Don't take reservations, and had about a 30 min wait for 4 but think it was worth it. Fairly large family style dishes. Definitely recommend for a nice change of pace, especially after days of halibut, salmon and fish and chips. read more

They didn't even have real Thai spices (dried chili pepper) available. The entrees were a good portion but 100% overpriced-- half the pleasure of Thai meals are the affordability, especially for the taste! We got pad Thai (exceedingly average), koh see mee, the Ginger entree, and holy basil meal. They actually ran out of rice which was unbelievable. You may find the attitude of the waitresses a bit rude if you are accustomed to service rendered in the mainland US restaurants. We stopped here in early October when most places in town were closed. They were short staffed as- two cooks and one waitress/ hostess. The food was delicious and service impeccable! I'll just say from the start... the food is good. I am a Thai food connoisseur. It is always my first choice when eating out. We've been eating here for several years now and the food rarely disappoints. But having said that, every single year they have raised their prices. When we first started eating here it was in the $12 per entree range. That was about 6 years ago... so a little steep for then. Fast forward to today and they have completely priced me out as a customer. Entrees now are about $18... FOR LUNCH ! Thai food should not be this expensive. This is beyond justifiable. Some of the entrees are even more, so you are looking at a $50 lunch for two without any appetizers or drinks. Good food but get a grip on yourself, it ain't that good! I guess it is gouge the tourists and screw the locals. So based on that, I vote with my feet and say no thanks. read more

The main problem was the wait for food. We waited 1.5 hours for our dinner. Thankfully, you can see the one-cook kitchen so we knew why our dinner wasn't ready. The cook also fulfilled all take away orders which were at least half of the meals. The food was good. If there wasn't a wait for food, it would be much better. The wait staff was very friendly. We also sat by the "day care". Don't do this. There was loud children unsupervised near us the entire dinner. In such a small town, finding vegetarian food and tasty to Indian taste buds is a big challenge. And Woody's helped in overcoming that pretty well. We went in for lunch at 11ish and were asked to seat ourselves wherever we wanted as they were not very busy then. The menu is very minimal with all the usual Thai items. Our server, I think she was part of the family, guessed our vegetarian, no-egg requirement and suggested us 4-5 options we had. That was 2 appetizers, yellow curry, ginger rice and tofu vegetable fried rice. We chose- Corn tofu fritters- crispy, freshly made, you could taste the corn kernels. A good choice! Yellow curry- good with lots of vegetables and less of the curry. Also the veggies were in huge pieces, I hope they were cut slightly smaller Ginger rice- this had strong ginger taste. It was basically veggies in ginger sauce and with side of white rice Tofu fried rice- nothing different or unique about it. It was tasty We called for spicy assuming it wouldn't be spicier than Indian food, but this food set us on fire and we enjoyed it, lol.. It was good food with long food coma which according to me deserves 5 stars. Will definitely recommend to friends visiting Seward.
