I walked in right before closing, and they were pretty much sold out of everything. Was lucky enough to snag 2 packs of the smoked salmon (apparently his best work to date) and a tub of the black cod schmear. Everything was INCREDIBLE. Honestly the best schmear and smoked salmon I've ever had in my life. The owner clearly knows what he's doing. If you're on the fence about swinging by, this place is definitely worth the drive! read more

JIM IS YOUR SMOKED FISH GUY! Please make sure to stop here when leaving Seward and take a good amount home. He knows his product like the back of his hand, is very personable and accommodating to busy travelers. We hadn't checked into our hotel yet after stopping by to know if we had a fridge for storage, gave us his card to text him the next day when we would be by in the AM. For someone who's assisted NYC and Chicago restaurants in securing Zagat and other awards for certain dishes containing his product, he still very much is a local and kind guy. We left with 2 lbs of smoked fish (salmon and cod) and a spread. He also said he ships, we will definitely be going that route once we finish everything. Absolute must!!! read more

All their products are fantastic. You can't go wrong with anything you buy here, a bit expensive but well worth the money.

This is the best smoked fish I have ever had. Best fish spreads I have ever had. My uncle used to smoke salmon fresh too. Incredibly fresh with just the right amount of Smokey flavor. Super tender. We had a sample of each of the their products Smoked, smear and spread: Black cod Salmon Personal favorite was the black cod smear with truffle. But all were unbelievably tasty. They were all so good, we just got one of each then retuned on our way out of Seward to bring some home. A hidden, unassuming gem that you really shouldn't miss. read more

This salmon and black cod is the best I ever had! I tried this a few years ago while visiting Seward and was lucky enough to stop by their shop. Not only was this a place to grab some smoked fish or dips, but it was a whole show! Jim knows his sh*t and shares the info and process with you in a funny and entertaining way. Delicious fish, we got samples of everything. His brine contains soy sauce, but he does have a gluten free brine for the black cod if you're lucky and it's unfrozen! read more

We were lucky enough to stop by Saltwood Smokehouse on the outskirts of Seward, around 1pm after lunch on a rainy day. The hours on Google Maps are not accurate, so don't plan around the listed 8-5. There's no website hours either, so make sure to pull in if you see that "open" sign lit up. Jim Woodside welcomed us in and immediately asked if we had tasted his products - upon hearing our "no," his face lit up as he said, "well would you like to?" We tasted Jim's smoked salmon, black cod, and four different dip/schmears. It was an amazing adventure of flavor exploration that made me wonder how anyone buys those sad boxes of gift shop smoked salmon. Both the salmon and cod were salty, savory, and melt-in-your-mouth exquisite. Both go for $30/half lb, which is easily competitive with gift shop prices we saw (~$20-30/half lb) for a far superior product. You'll get a discount in-store, $55 for a pound, even for three 1/3 lb black cods ($75 on his website). Jim gives you a cold pack and paper bag for insulation, which helps keep your fish fresh for up to 24 hrs. We also saw the schmear on the menu for The Mermaid Grotto nearby, and per Jim, there are a few other local businesses that you can find his products. Absolutely worth a stop, if only to give it a try. read more

If you want to find some of Seward's finest seafood, this is it. They've won multiple best in class awards, so I had to stop by when in town. It's a tiny building by the highway, but we'll worth the stop. The employee was super helpful and generously let us sample everything in stock (out of salmon unfortunately when we stopped by). Black cod is my favorite fish and the way they smoked it did not disappoint. Definitely stop here if you want to pick up some food for a picnic or the road! read more

We visited Seward and I saw this place online so I wanted to stop and see what they had to offer. I walked in and Jim (the owner) greeted me with a smile and a welcome. He asked is I wanted to try and samples. I said of course, of course. The place was clean and smelled amazing inside. Jim gave me a sample of everything and all of it was delicious. Jim was very knowledgeable and he and his stories were as complex as his product. I bought some smoked black cod and the three smears and cannot wait to try devour them over the next couple of days.
