I am a member of Wooster Mountain and go every Wednesday. They are open from 1-5 but get there around 12:15 if you want to choose your bench. RSO's are amazing and I am not sure about the negative reviews but Carl, Ana, Walter, and Rick are all friendly and knowledgable about firearms and will help out if you have any questions or need help with your firearm. The rules are strictly enforced for the safety of everyone at the range but Wednesdays is mostly Veterans/Ex-Military and skilled shooters so there aren't any issues of unsafe firearm handling. I go on Wednesdays. The Range Officers are friendly and very helpful. Carl, Ana and Rick are always super nice and make the experience very enjoyable. Anyone who left a bad review regarding the RSO's is a clown and most likely broke one of their few rules. Went with a group of buddies the first time. RSO lent me his staple gun on numerous occasions and even helped me problem solve an issue I was having while tuning a spring. read more

It's $20 cash only which makes you wonder. There is one port-o-potty for everyone and the range staff can be a bit rough around the edges. If you are closer to Blue Mountain in Cortladt Manor, I recommend you go there instead of Wooster. read more

Holy crap.....whats up with that RSO randy....he rents me a target stand for 5 bucks...and gives 2 targets....then when I ask for a couple more....he wants to charge me $2.50 each...So I give him $5.00 and he just grabs the cash without even a thank you or anything..... and on another note.....are you still open on Wednesdays or not.... read more

06/07/23. the range officers are very rude. We were treated terribly from the moment we walked in there. he advised that concealed carry is not allowed in the range even though the range website rules state that you can. we were instructed to unload our concealed firearms. do not point your muzzle at the ground while your firearm is unloaded. apparently that is unsafe. The web site rules for muzzle discipline say not to point your muzzle at anyone and to always pointed loaded weapons downrange. range officer also accused me of not paying for two targets me and my friend were using. the targets are five dollars each and both were paid for. The other range officer will state he is an FOP member (fraternal order of police) and play himself off as a law enforcement officer. After more conversation with this individual he was never sworn law enforcement in any capacity, current, or retired. he was however polite, and helpful. we complied with all range instructions, even the ones that contradicted what was ob the website and tried to have a good time. I would not recommend going there. also the parking is to the left and forward of the firing line of an active range with no barrier or burm which is totally unsafe. I would not recommend going there it is not minority friendly. I truly believe that because my shooting group was all minorities we were treated differently by the range officers. my shooing group that was there that day has a combined sworn law enforcement and military experience of over 40 years. all three of us are also combat veterans with multiple deployments and one that was with us is a current firearms instructor with a sworn law enforcement agency. read more

Good RSOs, very nice and safe. They run a good ship, with one exception. The older gentleman who is the chief officer is RUDE. I followed the directions when arriving. The sign clearly says all firearms must be in a case AND/OR locked open and safe. I approached with friends to shoot for the day. After paying he looked and me and said very hatefully "You will take that gun and return to your car immediately" I attempted to ask what I did and tried to explain that I followed the directions pointing out that the slide to my AR was locked open, visible, and safe. (Even with a flag still in). He was still rude and said, "You will leave with it now." I've never been here before, I read the rules, I followed the rules, and have no problem should he have said " We prefer your rifle to be in a case, can you put it in one?" I get what everyone is saying about one individual who is the issue. The other RSOs were great, safe, and very professional. In the case of those who may wonder if I know what I am doing...I'm almost 54 years old, I've been shooting competitively for over 40 of those years at a national level. I am also a retired law enforcement officer, firearms instructor, and RSO (I believe that everyone at any range should act as an RSO). I don't have problems with being called out for the safety of anyone. I DO have a problem with being yelled at when I clearly followed the rules. If he cannot have better personal skills, he should find a quieter place to stay. HE is the consistent person mentioned here. I would suggest to the board or whoever manages the range that it is indeed his time to go to the house. Otherwise, it does have the potential to be a nice small range. No, you're not gonna be shooting longer than about 55 yards, but it is accessible and decent for what it is. read more

I have absolutely no idea why anyone would give this place a bad review! I just went there yesterday shot pistol everything was explained in a very safe manner! The price is less than usual the scenery is beautiful!! When shooting, it's all about safety anyways so if you have a problem with that don't shoot! When newcomers come to a range, the range officers do not know you therefore they do not know whether you handle a gun safely or not! Imagine yourself in their shoes absolutely EXCELLENT place to shoot! read more

Wow, this place is tremendous. Much better than any indoor range I've been at! Breathe in the fresh air, take in the scenery and enjoy. I went early on a Wednesday and was expecting an empty range. I was surprised however, to find that the place was completely packed with guys taking part in a shooing competition. Unfortunately, I had to wait for them to finish up before I could start, but once I got a space everything was as expected. As for finding the site, it can be a bit hard if you're arriving with a GPS. The address that's listed is incorrect. Actually, there's no exact address for the property! But, if you punch in what's listed, it's basically a mile or so before the final destination, next to the huge red and white cell tower. Can't miss it if you know to look for the tower. Wholeheartedly recommend Wooster Mountain Shooting Range. Support this place! read more

Been shooting here for years off and on. Like the scenery and price has always been fair. Range officers can be struck but I like this as opposed to an anything goes attitude, a little advise once in a while whether asked for or not never hurt anyone. Wish the range had more distance but it is after all Fairfield County. Follow instructions and have a good time, before places like these are a thing of the past. read more

The set up looked okay (a little short and very close to the highway) but the older gentleman acting as the field officer on 7/21/14 was rude and intentionally unhelpful. As a first time shooter at that specific range you would think they would be more accommodating. I showed up at 6:05 when the hours listed until 7 and was told I had to arrive before 6 as they don't do "late check ins." No where on the literature I was handed did it say anything about late check ins and I double checked the website - nothing. Clearly he was just looking to go home. They obviously aren't looking for new members. read more

Pretty good range overall. They allow you to shoot steel targets, clays and other fun targets. Staff was very friendly and I felt safe. I plan on going back in the future. read more

Nice range and decent setup for rifles and pistols. No distance shooting. The range officer was beyond rude. As a shooter of over 20+ years, I am well aware that safety at a range is paramount. However, removing an empty pistol from a bag on the ground instead of on the bench does not nor should ever warrant a firm lecture from a bored retiree. When I returned my rifle to it's sock, unloaded and safe and placed it on the ground before ceasefire, I didn't expect to be grilled as to whether or not I had made my weapon safe. I wanted to say, "you're the one with a Glock strapped to his hip giving my friend and I a hard time for no reason, if anyone needs to be watched carefully, it's you." Range officers; we are not the reason your grandchildren won't talk to you anymore... Don't take it out on us. read more

Went to the range on 8/1/15 nice range but the elder range officer was rude from the beginning told us we did not know what we were doing and said he did not have all day to watch us( we didn't need to be watched) I am a beginner at shooting but not unsafe.he harassed all day and said we couldn't hit the side of a barn. last I checked not hitting the target is not being unsafe.instead of insults how about a little helpful advice send the old man home. read more

For those of us living in and around the Fairfield County area of Connecticut who don't belong to a private shooting club and find ourselves up against a 100 year waiting list, lack the requisite 6 mates to sponsor you, or may not have the disposable income to cover the country club level dues, this IS as good as it gets. WM is a good range, well kept and well run. Those who complain about the barking and "rude" range officers need to remember where they are: at a public shooting range in the Northeastern USA (behind the Iron Curtain...) that caters to shooting enthusiasts of varying skill levels and experience. And, it is a place that can get, at times, quite crowded. The overriding mantra at WM, and at any shooting range for that matter, is: safety, safety, safety. I've been shooting and around firearms for 50 years. If there is one thing that I have learned, and will emphasize to any shooter, regardless of experience, is: when going to any range, know its protocol and follow it! Don't get upset or ego bruised because some jock with a gun on his hip barks at you to essentially, "follow the protocol". Enough said. Besides, it ain't rocket science. For both you new and old shooters, the folks at WM are very helpful. They may appear distracted at those times when the range is very crowded, but, again remember, their first job is safety first. WM is great for handgun and short range rifle work. If you are looking to sight in your hunting rifle before heading out to that Montana elk hunt go to Blue Trail. WM is a little over 50 yards or so. Like I said, at times - like on those nice weekend days - every shooting table is occupied so, be cognizant of flying hot brass (wear a billed cap and avoid wearing loose fitting tops), and be kind to your neighbor. In conclusion, WM is not a Ben Avery (the shooting range in Phoenix, AZ...), but it is as good as it gets for a public range in this area of Connecticut. Shooters, thank your lucky stars that it is still allowed to operate. In a not so indirect way it is your responsibility when there to keep it that way. read more
