I am giving this Cost Plus World Market four stars but I definitely give the dumpy, dirty, chaotic, poorly engineered shopping center its located in zero stars. I realize the dirty diapers, children in the street and trash rolling around like tumble-weed isn't Cost Plus' fault so don't worry, I'm not penalizing them for it. Anyway, I like this store. Its a great place to shop for stuff you don't need. They have some cool jewelry and accessories that make great gifts. Also they have a fun "market" with internationally inspired food, much of which is imported, like everything else in this store. I always like to stroll the grocery portion of the store to check for interesting food, new beer and deals on wine. Much of the inventory at Cost Plus is inexpensive home furnishings. You can get some good deals here but of course some items are a little cheesy. I'm pretty sure that everything here except some beer, food and wine is imported. In many ways it reminds me a lot like Pier 1 Imports, but a bigger and perhaps better version. Overall, I like this store (just wish the location wasn't awful). The staff is friendly and the store seems organized and stocked. As a side note, given the choice between the O'side store and the Esco store, I actually travel to Escondido usually - the shopping center is less dumpy, believe it or not. read more

As big fans of World Market, we shopped at every single location in San Diego BUT our favorite is the one in Oceanside all because of Gilbert & Kristina :) They greeted us warmly and took care of us from start to finish. This is a great place to pop in and window shop or do some serious home shopping. This store has plenty of goodies to choose from, some are basics and others are luxury. I dropped in today to get a gift card for my Dad, don't judge me, he is someone who has 'everything' and I have to get him consumables! This shop had quite a bit of the featured summer items as well as a few end caps with clearance merch. I picked up a few flavored seltzers for mixing cocktails just to spice up at home happy hour! As always, I spent a good few minutes looking at their clothes and accessories but did not bite today. I just called to hopefully put on hold a order which stated only one was left in stock. Jax picked up and was so friendly and helpful! She asked all the right questions to figure out what we needed help with, what item we were calling regarding, and what our current status was since we had just ordered online. She was able to locate the item in the back, put it on a 48 hour hold and gave me all the details about how our hold slip would be processed tomorrow morning and just to be safe and call again before we drove all the way over. Great place to do holiday shopping for unique novelty gift items, they have stuff for kids and adults too. The toys were 40% off and that brings the price down to lower than other retailers. When it's not the holidays, this place is good for gourmet food and snacks from around the world. This particular store has good customer service (I have never had to deal with the manager, though). Yes Robert, I was tempted but in the end, I did not buy. ...this time! Much like their location in Temecula, the Oceanside location is filled with goodies most 30-somethings can't seem to live without. Isn't it funny how you obsess over certain niche items once you're in your 30's? Let's take for example imported beer; 10 years ago I had no idea what Duvel was (and I was a bar manager!). Now, it's one of my favorite beers. You can purchase 20 oz. bottles of Duvel at Cost Plus for a fistful of dollars. Let's say you're Asian and can't make it to your local Asian market. Cost Plus carries sauces and spices that aren't produced by Kikkoman or Lee Kum Kee. They have fringe manufacturers here, it's quite an array actually but the array isn't as cheap as your local Asian market. Cost Plus has taken aspects of Ikea, ethnic convenience stores, Bevmo, Home Goods, and Party City and rolled them into a neat little package. The real challenge here is keeping your eyes inside of your head because things can spiral out of control in a heartbeat. And the next thing you'll know is your eating sardines for a week because you OD'd at Cost Plus. And the worst part is that you haven't learned much about avarice in the last 10 years. When I walk into most of these type of places, like Home Goods, I just get a headache and can't find anything I'm looking for. When I go to World Market, I actually enjoy looking around. Recently bought some cool looking chairs and was happy to see "Made in Indonesia" on the box. Got them home, and could not be happier; they are comfy, look great, and the price was fair. The service at this store is top notch and I can always count on the staff to answer any question that I have. I always stop here when I'm in the area, because I never quite know what I'll find - or possibly what inkling of inspiration I'll find for a new project. As an import store, The World Market hits its mark and has a wide variety of high quality goods. I love the idea that I can shop for beer or wine from around the world on one isle and browse dinner choices on another. I enjoy browsing in this store. From furniture, housewares, food, to accessories, a bunch of fun stuff to consider. There's so much of it that I end up feeling overwhelmed. What a cool little store! I love coming to World Market even when I don't have the money to spend. I can get lost for a long time just wandering down the aisles. I love all things international and this gives me the little cultural fix that I always seem to crave. There's so many beautiful pieces and colorful, embroidered items. I've bought some cute lamps and pillows from India and other home decor items from Vietnam. They offer a little bit of everything from home to snacks and coffees to beer and kitchen supplies. The prices are on the higher side, but I think it's worth it since they offer unique and rare things from around the World. I love World Market! read more

I have always loved Cost Plus. This is the first time I have been to the Oceanside one, it's as great as every other one I have been to. It's a huge corporation, although it likes to pretend it is a unique gypsy flea market. So it runs pretty smoothly. I bought the Porter Wine Bar...it's great, is assembled already which is awesome...makes for a huge box to get home, but no assembly is awesome. Also bought two side tables, took about 5 minutes combined to put both together. Will and Kayla both helped me. Will in the store, 2x, and Kayla over the phone. I love World Market. Today I had a slightly frustrating experience and I have a potential solution for other folk to avoid it. it's all about customer experience from entering to exiting store. ISSUE: The arrangement of the checkout queue ropes need to be rearranged. -you have displays stands and beverage stands that hide your attempt to make checkout a smooth process. -today i got in the checkout queue by the 'ropes' and waited. -Two other customers lined up directly at the checkout stand. i'm sure they made no notice of the queue ropes. -when second cashier opened up, she appropriately called for the next customer in line. -the two customers who had unknowingly jumped the queue immediately went to the open register. -it was awkward. more customers could have been lining up outside of your intended queue -awkward shopping experience for me EVALUATION: I'd suggest you (employees) take a walk from anywhere in the store up - to the registers and observe &consider the layout from a customers viewpoint. SUGGESTED SOLUTION: -Move displays that are blocking the queue line ropes -Move the ropes closer towards first register Please consider. thx. read more

I placed a pick-up order the night before I wanted to pick it up. The next day, I got the notification that my order was ready, so me and my SO dragged ourselves from Temecula to Oceanside because they had an item in stock that our World Market didn't. We get there and go to the pick-up area and get our items, except the one item that I drove specifically to Oceanside for wasn't in the bag. I mentioned it and showed my confirmation email that I was missing an item and was told that "you only bought one item" even though my confirmation email and bank statement said differently. Only after some convincing was it investigated. I was told that it was out of stock and that's why I wasn't given the item. The website still held that the item was in stock so I was very sad that I drove all the way to Oceanside to not even get it. There was no email or text notification to tell me it was out of stock so I essentially wasted my time going to Oceanside instead of my local World Market. I didn't appreciate being treated like I was crazy for wanting my second item, and I understand it was largely out of the employees control, but I was disappointed that I wasn't helped or told why any of this happened- I had to put the pieces together myself. read more

It pains me to write this post, but this location sucks butt. More specifically the manager, Anthony....not sure how or why he got the job, but serious reconsideration needs to be made. I placed an order online around 10 in the morning. The one item I wanted was not shippable, it could only be picked up at a location and they were offering 1-hour pickup. The nearest to me (as I live in Wildomar) was Oceanside. I placed the order. I happened to be in San Diego for work reasons and thought I would swing by. It then dawned on me that I never got the call or text that the order was ready. It's now almost 6 pm on the same day, so I figured it would be ready by now. I am going to say, I think the cashier was new, but he told me that the order was not pulled yet; I hear him telling someone on the phone that the customer who ordered the Dia de Los Muertos items is here. ??? is what I thought. In comes Anthony. Totally disheveled, greasy hair and he had so much dirt under his nails, I thought he was gardening in the back or something. In a hurry tells me to follow him to a laptop. Where he tells me that all they have are the pillows. A little confused I asked well according to the website this was the one location that had the items and if you didn't have the items why wasn't I notified. He claimed to had just found out 15 minutes ago that they didn't have it. I really didn't care for his tone or his lack of empathy for the situation, so I said just cancel the order. He pressed some buttons and literally walked away. I asked another associate if I could see the manager again, as clearly he was done with me; but I wasn't done with him. He came back with that smug face, calling me mam and all, when I said, look I am a peeved because had I known I wouldn't have made the drive and that's when he said, and I quote, " well no one asked you to drive here". At that point, my tone really changed, and I said I am not leaving here without some sort of official paperwork that shows this order was canceled; and IF I have to come back (insert colorful language here) its really going to be a different conversation. He disappeared once again. I think the Lord intervened and I heard a ding on my phone, where I received a confirmation the order was canceled. Now I am just waiting for the funds to be released. I have been in management for over 20 years, and NEVER would I have talked to a customer the way Anthony did. WM has always been one of my most favorite stores, but it will be a cold, cold, I mean antarctic day in hell before I ever recommend or set foot into another WM. Customers matter, and whoever thought Anthony was management material clearly doesn't understand the first thing about first impressions. read more

Customer service is alive and well! From the moment I walked in I was warmly greeted. I had an online order that needed to be adjusted and was taken care of by Matt who is the manager. He is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and kind. He went out of his way to make sure everything was taken care of. I did some more shopping while I was there and whole staff is very aware and attentive (so refreshing). World Market has everything you can think of. They have beautiful household items, fun trinkets, lovely accessories and jewelry, and imported foods, drinks, treats from across the globe. They have an extensive wine selection as well. My favorite time of year to come to World Market is around the holidays-- Halloween through New Years they have a delightful selection of holiday decorations and have lots of great gift ideas. I can pretty much never leave without bringing home a new decorative item, or a new kind of chocolate to try when I shop here. And I always buy at least several Christmas gifts here; they're especially great for stocking stuffers with all of the unique treats and trinkets they sell. Make sure to sign up for their rewards program so you can get coupons and know when their sales are! read more

When walking into the Cost Plus World Market I experienced utter bliss. Dishes, wine, specialty imports and nice artwork. What more could you ask for? This store was made for me and if someone added a few extra zeros into my bank account I would buy everything inside the store. In the store you'll find a variety of original and handmade items from around the world at only 10% over cost (cost plus ;) While the home items (dishes etc.) are very appealing I think the part with the most lure is the array of international foods and wines. I paid an almost double the price for a wine at is own winery that can be found here for much less and closer to home. Even if you're just up for a stroll, I dare you to walk through and not be tempted to buy half a dozen items. read more

I had not been inside a Cost Plus in quite some time. I had been years. I, for some inexplicable reason, had forgotten how hard this place rocks. However, a recent need for a small dining table took us there. I seemed to remember they have decent furniture for reasonable prices, and really hoped this was still the case. I really didn't have a large budget for a table and would have liked to avoid Ikea. Much to my happiness, they still had rad furniture for cheap. I found a table that was not only gorgeous, but hand carved, the perfect size, a good color and on sale for $200. SOLD!! It is FAR superior to anything we would have found at IKEA for about the same price. While there, my boyfriend was like a kid in a candy store. "I never have come here, because I just figured it was like another over-priced Pier 1 wanna be place with mediocre crap." So not the case here. They have everything from coffee presses to soy candles to unique furniture and home decor to jewelry. It is a fabulous place to by gifts that are unique and interesting. They have such neat little things for the house, people will think you're a high-roller with your silk Indian table runner, and they don't need to know you only paid $8.50 for it. read more

This world market is just the best! They have all the coolest stuff. The people who work here are super helpful and whomever their buyer is, you're doing an excellent job! They have all the coolest stuff especially now at Halloween. Their dia de Los muertos selection is AWESOME! And they always have year round kitschy stuff like Eiffel Tower shower curtains and skeleton hanging lights. I have a suggestion. Your cashiers are turned the wrong way. They are pointed toward the exterior window. If a line backs up, they have no clue to call for an additional cashier. Numerous customers got in line with me, and the cashier had no clue. Maybe there are no backup cashiers. I dunno. I like the place, but, damn. This is not my first bad experience here. My bad that I have tried them again. Ordered a leather chair online. First of all the website is deceptive about pricing. Chair said $399 but then it is suddenly $499. After much looking i find a coupon. Website says only one remaining. But It says Only one remaining on so many items I looked at ? Makes you think this is some silly marketing ploy. So not feeling good about this but i order the chair cause it says available for pickup today. They charge my credit card $429. When I go to pick up " oh sorry we don't have that in stock" WTF. They tell me they can't get it from another store. I can't transfer current order to another store. They will cancel my order and then I can go back online and order from another store. Oh thank you! Meantime over 10 days later and the $499 charge still on my credit card !! Phone customer service so bad. Save your self the grief and just go to Costco or Amazon. read more

Wow, don't wast your time with this business. I drove for 45 minutes to get here and made it with 15 minutes to spare only to be told they want to go home early so they are closing. I pointed out the fact that their signs say they are open till 7 but they would not let me in to buy a single item I already had picked out on line. Very poor customer service or just lazy employees. I called multiple times to have a product and a 15% off coupon ready to go. First off, the first time I call, I inquire about the product I want. The girl on the phone was very helpful and after explaining that I had a small sports car, she assured me that said product would fit in my car on account that it was disassembled and in boxes, needless to say, way too big for my car. Trip was pointless, time and gas wasted, honest mistake, and I shouldn't have taken her word for it, my bad. Multiple employees stated that I could come pick them up and they would be ready to go with 15% off coupon. I drag my friend who has a truck across town to help me and when I get there no 15% off coupon. The cashier and floor associate were incredibly rude from start to finish, I was very polite the whole time and really still can't understand why they didn't want to take the $500.00 I was prepared to spend. Anyways, the stuff inside is cool (and overpriced for the most part) and unfortunately I had a bad experience. Anybody that can offer me a good alternative to this place would be much appreciated. If you live in North County you know how difficult it is to find any Asian markets or specialty Asian foods. I tried another small market prior to this one with no luck. The selection here is the best I've seen so far. They don't carry fresh produce but they do have other dry goods and sauces that I always need. I was also able to find the jasmine rice brand I like. This store also carries different soy sauce brands, rice noodles, seaweed paper, fish sauce... Etc. All the items that are hard to come by at the grocery store. For the hard to find products I end up driving down to Clairemont or Mira Mesa. The store is well organized, clean and always stocked. They also carry a wide variety of imported beers and spirits. They sell furniture and other house hold items. I was able to pick up some soup spoons and soup bowls for ramen. It's a cool little store.
