I haven't been here in awhile but after getting a new espresso maker at home, I've found World Market to be a great source for Torani syrups. I like the Torani Puremade flavors which don't have artificial flavors or colors. So it's a great option for homemade lattes and cappuccinos. They also have decent quality furniture- usually solid wood. (I have some wood cafe chairs from World Market from 25+ years ago) Join the rewards club to learn about the sales and earn rewards points. I love world market. I've been shopping here for many years. It was originally called Cost Plus when I first started shopping there in the Bay Area. I was glad to find them down here when I moved. It's been my source to find international candy I discovered in my travels to other countries, obscure ingredients I've needed for recipes, gifts, ornaments, cards, home goods, beverages and many other items. Plus, the staff has always been helpful and welcoming when I've needed anything. While some things are a bit more pricey than other places, they often have sales and discounts are offered if you sign up for world market rewards. I wish there was one a little closer, but I will drive the distance for what I need and keep shopping here. It's fun and whimsical. read more

Around the World Market...as it's been 80 days! I try to make it to World Market every 3 months or so. I love that they carry items from England that I grew up with. These are hard to find items at most retailers in the US. It is difficult to walk out of the store without making a purchase for yourself or as a gift. Today, we purchased tea, chocolate and some stocking stuffers. It is one of the best places to visit to get you in the holiday spirit. Store hours posted on door are off by two hours--says 8am open but doesn't open until 10am. Annoying.

Very disappointed with my experience at this location. Managers on the sales floor doing table set ups, clearly looking annoyed and giving dirty looks to customers looking at products nearby. One was staring at me as I was shopping, making me feel very uncomfortable, I finally said hello to her and she just looked the other way. It was very bizarre. I had a product return, there was a defect and I couldn't use it. I wanted to exchange it for the exact product, which I purchased the previous day. The gal at the register was so kind and friendly but she had to call a manger to override the transaction. The manager then asked me if the product was wrapped up when I bought it and I said yes, but I didn't realize there was a crack in it. I tried to seal it because I didn't want to drive all the way back to the store but the vase still wouldn't hold water. She told me in a very annoyed tone without even looking directly at me, we don't normally allow this type of return, because we can't resell this. I guess we'll do it this time. Ummm, what? Why would you want to resell something that was damaged in the first place? I thanked her and apologized for the inconvenience. I felt terrible for the cashier who was getting stressed out and uncomfortable with the whole interaction. She called twice for a back up cashier, but I guess the other managers were too busy putting together floor displays to help. Needless to say, I will not be going back to this location due to my experience, but I'm sure they clearly don't care anyways! Today I overheard an employee, I'm assuming who was the manager on duty, get very annoyed and unprofessional with another customer in the store. The elderly customer had arrived to pick up her online order and the store did not have the same quality of said product that their website showed, so the customer paid for more online than what she was picking up. This employee should have been apologetic and understanding of the confused customer, instead she was curt and even made facial expressions showing how displeased she was with the customer. This included the employee walking away from the customer while she was trying to ask the employee questions. I believe this employee is in a management position because at one point she called an off duty employee on her cell phone with questions about the previous stocking of this item. Aside from this observation, the cashiers were very pleasant and represented the company well. read more

Rude checker. Ruder manager. Sold defective merch and wouldn't accept an exchange (plus I was going to buy another one). Was within the 30 days return policy. Have shopped the OG world market (aka cost plus) in Oakland from the very beginning. They lost a customer based on not selling quality merch (losing what prob cost them $5) when I spends hundreds of dollars here a year. Literally just bought furniture from them but never again. Cost Plus World Market is a great home store with all of the current trends and styles. A perfect place to buy unique/stylish gifts too. There are gifts for any occasion and items for the entire house (bed & bath, kitchen, dining, furniture, etc.). Like most stores, they offer a rewards program, but this rewards program is actually worth signing up for. Once you are a member, you will receive rewards, coupons, and more directly on your phone. This is convenient and you will never misplace a coupon again, well, at least for Cost Plus World Market. In sum, you earn $10 for every $200 you spend. This isn't difficult to do. There are usually sale items and discounted items, so there are deals and great markdowns. I find the best deals on outdoor items, especially summer items. I've picked up outdoor cushions/pillows, umbrellas, furniture, and decor on sale. The food and drink selection is full of items from around the world. A perfect opportunity to try new items. Looking for a "hard-to-find" food or drink item, chances are you will find it here. If not, something rather comparable. There are always new food and drink items. Tons of healthy snacks, imported meats, crackers, and such. The International food selection is full of flavorful finds. This store is always fun to browse around. They have everything from food/drinks, to home decor and furniture. They have a nice selection of beer and wine as well as a coffee grinder for taking home a tasty selection of coffee. They often have coffee/tea samples in the front. They frequently have sales but perhaps the best is during the holiday season. Otherwise, a lot of their stuff can be pricey. Most of their stuff is unique and from different parts of the world. There is a rewards program where you earn points for cash rewards. Be sure to bring your grocery bags because they charge ten cents each bag. :( read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. When my partner and I were checking out today we had a very rude cashier. As soon as I walked up to the counter the cashier had an attitude. She ask if I wanted a bag for 10¢ but i didn't hear her at first so when i asked what she said she half shouted at me! I said yes and she packed all my items. I was nice and cordial to her yet all i got was disrespect. After she gave me my change and while i was putting it in my wallet, she shoved the bag towards me. Today she has brown curly/wavy hair half up, glasses, and a white shirt. Never coming here again if she is working. absolutely rude, do better. I don't care if you're having a bad day, keep work and personal life separate. I've been in retail for years and never have I treated someone this poorly. read more

I liked that I was able to shop online and order curbside pick up for seasonal and clearance. However most items I ordered were not in stock even though it said it was. Lastly, contactless curbside was really pointless and a joke. I had to physically open my car door (or you can roll down the windows) then open the pen cap given to me and sign an invoice.... That was NOT necessarily and did I mention my order was literally less than $10 bucks! World Market needs improving for curbside pick up (or signature required for a certain amount). I had a great experience here today. Tons of good stuff and Stephan was very helpful with the one item I wanted. Cava. A Spanish sparkling wine that they had about 6 types of. All worthy of trying. The store was clean and neat, well thought out and easy to navigate. I'm not sure why I don't go here much, but that will end today. I encountered ugly discrimination here, trying to return candle holders I'd purchased there because they didn't have a complete set and wanted to get something else to decorate my son's room with. I spend a lot of time in stores, mostly because I'm autistic and struggling with sensory overload in places with no clear aisles. I brought the reusable bag that I'd just purchased that day from the same store, where I had the candle holders i had brought to return and exchange for another item. Many clearance items lacked tags, so I had to weed through those items to locate the labeled ones. I took the non labeled ones with me to the checkout aisle when I was ready. My sons were both with me, and had been with me earlier when I came to buy items, including the bag. I remained patient and asked for the correct prices. I was prepared to pay whatever they wanted to a certain extent, but some items were identical and rang up completely different prices. The cashier was taking time, so another cashier (possibly the manager?) took over. She said items that I'd found had their tags removed and changed with different tags. I said I realized that, which was why I brought them for clarification, and those which were way overpriced were the ones i told them no thanks. She got very surly at the end and eyeballed my bag, which I had on one shoulder. I took the candle holders out, which smelled like vanilla candles that I'd had in them at home. They were from my younger son's room, so he was confused too when the woman accused me of removing the tags. I asked her how I had the time to do that, and she asked me where I got the bag. She finally accused me of not only changing price tags and removing them (again, I asked her where the tags could be and how that could even happen in front of the entire staff - which I'd shown the candle holders in the bag to upon entering the store precisely to avoid this. My younger son began to get upset because his candle holders were now being held by the woman...and she told me I needed to leave the store, give her the candle holders, the bag, and called in armed security. She said if I was not gone by the time the guard came they'd call the police. I asked her to check the cameras again for the morning, and ask the staff member i showed the candle holders to upon stepping through the door. Ironically, the reusable bag was in support of women's rights. My older son had gone back to the place they had the same candle holders i was going to exchange (which were brand new, and had no tags on them whatsoever...he brought the six they had in stock). The woman said that he could have removed the tags. I pointed out the cleaner items from the store that smelled nothing of candle wax, and she told me I needed to leave. I told her I needed my bag and my candle holders back. The security guard looked miserable and remained quiet. My sons began urging me to just leave, and I was upset because she had a $10 bag and 6 candle holders that I'd paid $5 each for. I was unaware they needed a receipt for items I'd shown to a staff member the minute i walked in. She was unreachable...and I finally wrote my information on a piece of paper, including my phone number and address, email, and a brief rundown of the incident. She needed to be right. She insisted on winning. Maybe one day, she will learn not to judge people because they have disability aides. Two children watched her exert superiority over their mom, and sadly, they knew I was being honest. The security guard told me he was just doing his job, and I was happy at least one staff was kind and decent enough to apologize. I could have pulled my credit card information for the day and made a big deal...but I believe in karma. She won, World Market got over $40 in free merchandise from a customer who had already spent hundreds in the store to begin with. Had I been alone, I would have waited for the police, and made them return my items after making them roll the film back and prove my innocence. I walked out with my head held high, an apology from an employee and the guard. My kids learned a valuable lesson about discrimination. I couldn't even get her to give me her name...so I do believe she knew she had backed herself into a corner. Shop somewhere that supports ALL human rights, not just the ones that make for a certain demographic to feel they're doing their part by buying overpriced fair trade and "women's rights" bags. Also, her ugly stares at my autistic son's vocal sounds were gross. We don't apologize for being born different in our house, regardless of what one person's power trip may result in. This store and their parent company steal from loyal customers. I've shopped there for years. I belong to their rewards program. I bought a rug from them and used my rewards which I had earned for previous purchases I made. I tried to exchange the rug for the same rug, just a different color but the same price and in order to do so they make you forfeit your rewards money. They cannot do an even exchange and I would lose $10. Customer service, although nice, hung up on me twice. Probably because they didn't know how to help. Just really bad. read more

I went inside the store to pick up on an online order I had placed, rather than pick up at the curb, because I had a couple of other items I needed to find. There were many customers inside the store not masked. I decided to end my search more quickly than expected so that I could check out and leave as soon as possible. At the register, I asked to speak with the manager, who when questioned about complying with the mask mandate, said there wasn't really anything they could do. (I had just left a nearby Starbucks where a prominant sign on the door clearly said masks were required for entry, so it's BS that there was nothing this World Market manager could do.) I responded that the manager could enforce the mask mandate, not provide service to those who don't comply, and announce on an intercom (if they had one) that masks were required. They could have someone at the door to not allow entry if masks were not being worn. I gave the manager all these ways that they could enforce the statewide mask mandate. He just acted helpless and uncooperative. To make matters worse, the online order I picked up was missing five items, which I did not discover until I finally returned home and unpacked the bag. The items had not been cancelled (I would have received an email), and the store did not notify me at all when I picked up the order that some items were not available. It has been a hassle to get a refund; the store said they were unable to do it over the phone - I'd have to go into the store. I had to contact customer service. Turns out that the first customer service representative with whom I spoke only took notes and did not put a refund in process; she only opened a case to begin an inquiry. When I called back a second time to check on the status because I've been charged but no refund has appeared yet, the second customer service representative said that World Market had three different systems which are not connected, so at first he did not see the case that had been opened. He was finally able to put in the correct refund and take care of it. I won't be returning to this World Market location. read more

Love the store, but their manager is AWFUL. I went in today and the larger male manager, employee #8119, was so rude to me I will not be coming back. I brought in two unused bath towels with the tags still on, hoping to exchange for a different color bath towel and was told by the cashier no problem and she held the towels for me while I looked for the new color. When it came time for the exchange the manager said if they could not find me in the system through phone number or card I cannot exchange them. I was beyond frustrated, but still bought the new color anyways. As I paid I happened to look down at their return policy on the register and it claimed you CAN exchange/return without a receipt at the current price of the item. I brought this to the managers attention and he said very rudely it excludes bath towels! I corrected him saying it only excludes bath curtains which is when he claimed my towel is considered bedding? I told him is this towel a blanket? It clearly says bath towel on the tag and he admitted he was wrong and could it exchange it. I think the exact words were "I was confused..." with no apology he exchanged the towels and returned the ones I had bought to re-ring them up as an exchange. This employee completely wasted my time, was extremely rude to me, and if I hadn't glanced down at the return policy myself before leaving I would have wasted my money on the original towels. Is world market hiring for new managers? Apparently I know their policy better than their current one.... read more

I like that World Market has interesting and unusual items. They have items like soft goods and jewelry from all over the world. They have furniture, dishes and kitchen items and all kinds of food and drinks as well. This particular world market does not have the best or cleanest restrooms. Also their prices can be very expensive, though I do find their jewelry to be very reasonable. In this particular store if you go back toward the bathrooms to the left of the hallway there is a clearance area and if you find anything that you want there's good deals to be had. read more

A hodgepodge of things are for sale here from old, unrefrigerated craft beer to niche Japanese snacks to decorative throw pillows. It's an odd to place to walk into - terrifyingly quiet with hardly anyone inside when I've visited. We go mainly to stock up on international candies like Tim Tams from Australia. Occasionally, we'll get some cooking items like specialty sauces or pastes. They also have old-school sodas that you don't find in mainstream retail outlets anymore. We were there for hours and waited patiently for the employees to hide them and they never did. We left after 2 hours. Then we tried to purchase $500 in items, there two girls working the front had no clue how to order a chair and discouraged from doing so. If Martha Stewart had an International line, World Market would be it. EVERYTHING at this store must go into my one bedroom apartment, including the huge 12 seater dining table. No, I don't think I'll ever have more than five or six people over at any instance in time, but I must have it for it's coffee-colored boldness and the massive surface area. I bought my terracotta pig grill, playfully named "George F.", here. His metallic box brothers would easily cost the $25 elsewhere and would be flimsy, but this little pig heats up a storm, for only $20! What a multifunctional pet to have in your home... I can't wait to get more of his brothers & sisters. I'm going to have a little animal farm of kitchen utensils at this rate. Really awesome place for just about anything you could want; home decor, food, wine, furniture, greeting cards, candles... I hate window shopping. No, I really loathe it. It makes me soooo grumpy. But World Market is the only place I'm willing to do it! I love browsing the aisles to mentally re-design rooms in my home, putting all those ideas on the back burner until I have a little spending money :) For the longest time (and still, I hope) World Market was the only place I could find that carried Vegemite, the toast spread I was raised on in Australia. A little pricey, but considering it had to be imported and was basically nonexistent elsewhere, I was willing to pay the price. There is a plethora of good wine here too. Oh, and snacks. Have yourself a wine and cracker party! Seriously, I will throw any kind of get-together as an excuse to shop here for the cute stuff. I am giving this Cost Plus World Market four stars but I definitely give the dumpy, dirty, chaotic, poorly engineered shopping center its located in zero stars. I realize the dirty diapers, children in the street and trash rolling around like tumble-weed isn't Cost Plus' fault so don't worry, I'm not penalizing them for it. Anyway, I like this store. Its a great place to shop for stuff you don't need. They have some cool jewelry and accessories that make great gifts. Also they have a fun "market" with internationally inspired food, much of which is imported, like everything else in this store. I always like to stroll the grocery portion of the store to check for interesting food, new beer and deals on wine. Much of the inventory at Cost Plus is inexpensive home furnishings. You can get some good deals here but of course some items are a little cheesy. I'm pretty sure that everything here except some beer, food and wine is imported. In many ways it reminds me a lot like Pier 1 Imports, but a bigger and perhaps better version. Overall, I like this store (just wish the location wasn't awful). The staff is friendly and the store seems organized and stocked. As a side note, given the choice between the O'side store and the Esco store, I actually travel to Escondido usually - the shopping center is less dumpy, believe it or not. read more
