We were redoing a bathroom and gathering quotes and Peter at World of Kitchens was recommended by numerous neighbors. Peter checked out our bathroom and took notes and measurements but unbeknown to us, was not a contractor, just a supplier. He could not comment on our proposed bathroom layout changes or whether it would be possible to move plumbing or how big our shower should be. Before he left he gave us a number of a plumber and told us to contact him and see what he thought about our plumbing rearrangement. We expected that after this plumber came out (given prior notice by Peter that we were calling), he and Peter would work up a proposal with a price. We had a short time frame to work in and he was the last quote we were waiting on. We eventually got hold of the plumber who had no idea what we were calling about and turned out was booked for another month anyway. We then called Peter and he said oh, try this other friend (we thought another plumber) and clearly did not intend to propose anything but we should come down and look at vanities. At that point we were ready to give up and go with one of the other quotes. We were able to get a hold of this 2nd "plumber" who turned out was a contractor and also was not aware we were going to call but agreed to come out. The pro of the story was we found a great contractor and since we had found him via Peter, we felt obliged to buy some items from him. We went to the store and well, I guess I was expecting kitchen AND bathroom stuff but it was solely kitchen stuff. The only item we could get from there was a vanity and medicine cabinet and we'd have to go somewhere else to get the counter top and they'd be able to put it all together. The cabinets were not cheap (I didn't expect them to be) but we figured, we'll just buy this one thing from the guy and that's it. Of course the items would take 4 wks to arrive so we had to rush. At this point we were toying with the idea of a new layout that would affect the size of our vanity and it all depended on our plumbing which of course, was hidden in the walls and floor. Peter let us know the order cutoff was Fri (this was Sun) so if we could get him an order by then, we should have the vanity in time as to not stall the job. Our poor contractor rushed over, leaving another job, to come and assess the situation and do demo work. He spent 2.5 days tearing apart the bathroom and had his plumber come after work hours to decide if we could make this new layout happen. In the end it was a dud so we let Peter know via email on Thurs we were sticking with the original size vanity. Well no response from Peter and now Fri had passed so on Sat, we contacted Peter who says oh! I took Fri off for my son's birthday and have no access to email at home. UMMMMMMM......... what??? Even our contractor was flabbergasted like why did I bust my a** if it wasn't going to matter. Peter assured us though he would get the order in and it would still come in time.... So.... not sure what the deal was about the cutoff.... didn't we just extend our time frame another week? We went down to the store to finalize the paperwork (once again, me thinking we just have to buy this from him and that's it). We arrive and look over the numbers. He gives us the card for a granite place to pick out our vanity top. And oh, by the way, the medicine cabinet doesn't come with a mirror. So when that comes in take it to Mr XYZ and he will measure and fit it and that will take another week and that price is not included and I'm not sure how much extra that will be. OH, and I need a check for the deposit, did I forget to mention that? At least he offered to pick up the check from us. We left and I was not happy to be paying $$$$$ and having to wait so long for items to arrive and run around and get mirrors from one place and granite from another and extend our time frame. In the end we canceled our order (big weight lifted off my shoulder!) and bought all our stuff from Lowe's and Amazon which we love and was way cheaper. I'm not sure how much of a "review" this is. He is a nice enough guy and he did come out probably knowing we would only buy one cabinet. I just did not feel comfortable giving him my business with all these little nuances popping up. read more

Rennovations can be difficult, stressful and overwhelming, and going into one of these larger do-it-yourself stores can be overwhelming in itself. We have used Peter twice now, first for our kitchen remodel (summer, 2013) and most recently for the addition of our half bath (autumn, 2014). In both circumstances, his recommendations were right on. The 12'x12' kitchen in this vintage home has a challenging layout (four entry points and two standard-sized windows). These parameters limited our choices and required careful design to match the character of a vintage home and to match modern functionality. (For instance, back in the day when this house was built, 1900, refrigerators did not yet exist; instead ice boxes were used and kept in the pantry area of the mudroom -- wise adjustments were necessary). The half-bath was more straightforward. Since this half-bath is near the kitchen, he recommended a vanity that was in character with the cabinets in the kitchen. Peter kept us apprised throughout the process so that we could plan. The licensed contractors Peter recommended were all excellent; I even recommend these skilled tradesmen to my neighbors. Our next project is the pantry/mudroom area, also right off the kitchen, which we hope to complete this autumn. We are enjoying our interactions and brainstorming on this project as well. read more

My husband and I walked into World of Kitchens on a recommendation. We'd already shopped some of the kitchen cabinet chain stores, but were not very impressed with what we'd seen. By the time we walked into World of Kitchens we'd already given a lot of thought about what features we wanted in a custom kitchen, and had made a rough design sketch we were ready to share. We were having a new town home built, so outside of budgetary constraints, we were under no other restrictions. As a result, this meant we had more possibilities and choices than we knew how to manage. We were grateful for the many useful suggestions we received from both World of Kitchens' owner, Peter Erickson, and his most capable designer, Amy Ellis. Their experienced input proved to be invaluable in helping us sort out what was really important to us in a kitchen design. We truly appreciated their guidance, and they seemed genuinely interested in ensuring we got what we wanted and needed; yet at the same time they were always patient and never pushy. We now own the kitchen of our dreams! Peter's team of designers, and installers were professional, friendly, efficient, and a joy to work with. Was the whole project completed without a hitch? Well, no. Along the way there were challenges and misunderstandings to overcome. But in the end, everything worked out well. Peter remained dedicated to the project, worked hard, and was determined to make sure my husband and I were completely happy with the end result. We highly recommend World of Kitchens. My old, seriously outdated kitchen was in need of a major overhaul. I contacted World of Kitchens among other places. I worked with Peter Erickson who came out to my house, took very detailed and precise measurements and really listened to what I wanted. He came up with some wonderful suggestions, things that I had not even thought of and several of which I incorporated. Peter is terrific to work with he listened to what I wanted and was great about working within my budget. I am delighted with the outcome and absolutely love my new kitchen.
