Stopped by here on the way back from Mr Mac's and the local farmer's market. We pulled right into a spot and was tended to right away. She offered menus and gave us some time, and informed us up front the grills were off at this time. We ended up ordering red float, regular float, ripper dog and some fries! read more

Been meaning to come here, but it's a bit out of my way, and the last time I swung by it was closed (on a Tuesday I think.) Mainly interested in the root beer. Stopped in today, not busy on a weekday afternoon. Decided to eat at a table, and there is separate parking from that (on the left; drive-in parking on the right.) Big parking lot, portajohn for a bathroom. Covered dining area, nice breeze, fast friendly service. Pretty straightforward menu. Sadly out of sausage for their signature Rebel Burger, so I got a single and they suggested the Rebel sauce and cheese, to make it close. Also got a short coney, because, I mean, dog is in the name. Baby K got a corn dog, and we shared fried pickles. The root beer is made by them, and, well, it's fine, nothing special. I commend them for making their own- local, original, different. It came iced, not a good thing. Not in a frosted mug; I assumed it would be in one, should have asked I guess. Pleasant enough. A little rooty, a hint of wintergreen. No head. Refreshing but not great. K loved her float. And the corn dog. The short coney (not a fan of footlongs) was pretty darn good. Good bun, good dog, lots of cheese and sauce, and the sauce seemed homemade. Tasty. The burger was pretty darn good. Good bun, meaty burger with crispy edges. The sauce seemed kinda like homemade tartar, maybe mayo and relish, though a bit more yellow or orange than that suggests. Combined to make a good burger, but would have also been good without. The fried pickles were the surprise star. I am generally not a big fan- they are often thick, and the batter slides off. These were thin slices, the batter was crispy and perfect and stayed on. Yum. All in all an excellent experience. Not worth a detour for the root beer, but for a nostalgic lunch with good food and good service at very reasonable prices, I'll be back. And I'll still have a root beer because even just-decent root beer or floats are better than no root beer or floats. read more

You really cannot go wrong with a drive-in! This is one of the really good ones! Pretty good variety of items on their menu and the food is very good. My go to is usually a coney dog and a frosted mug with homemade root beer. This time I also got a burger and a side of o ion rings. Yes, I was stuffed and I ate every bite because it is so damn good! Wot A Dog used to be a very good place to eat and you could trust that the food would be delicious. It's changed hands and has had several different owners and the most recent new owner only seems to want to hire teenage kids. I ordered their pork tenderloin sandwich and french fries, and the food was very cold, and the pork tenderloin was tough like shoe leather Impossible to eat and enjoy. Please get some adults in there that care about the food that they're putting out! read more

We went to Wot-A-Dog today and had a wonderful experience. Typically I always get a a coney dog but wanted to try something new. I got a bacon cheeseburger. It was fantastic! My oldest got a pizza burger and said it was amazing. My middle son had the chicken sandwich and said it was really great. My daughter got chicken fingers and said they were her favorites. The breading in light, the chicken is juicy and tasty. The kids loved their shakes and I loved my root beer in a frosted mug. We will be back! Food service staff were attentive and nice. The food prices were reasonable. The short dog was okay, not any different from eating any other hotdog. I love a good mug of rootbeer, but ours were served in regular cups. The root beer was insanely sweet, might as well have been syrup in a cup. I could only drink a few drinks. The peanut butter shake was good, probably something that should stay on the menu. The chicken tenders weren't anything that stood out. A homemade batter might do better. The fries were okay, not much different from any other restaurant. Kind of disappointing, but then again I lived in the time of the original Wot a Dog, and that's a lot to live up to. :) read more

I've been a frequent patron of this business since I was a little girl and not once have they disappointed me. I love this place and the service is great! My family and I stop here pretty much every season (Spring/Summer) that they're open for a quick bite. I usually get two hot dogs (sometimes just one depending on how hungry or not hungry I am) and I always enjoy them very much! All in all, my family and I always look forward to coming here, and if you're in the mood for hot dogs and are around in the Dayton area, swing by here one year and try it! I grew up in New Carlisle, eating the original Wot-a-Dog, and I'm happy to say that the new owners have done a good job with trying to duplicate the originals. I'm glad to see it open again, hated to think of this summer tradition being gone forever! We went today and got footlong coneys, the Wot-a-Dog classic. They were good, as were the fries and fried mushrooms. I can't drink soda, but my husband and kids tried the rootbeer, another Wot-a-Dog classic. My husband said it tasted a little flat and not quite as strong in flavor as he would have liked. The carhop was busy, as she was the only one working outside. Today I tried their hamburger. I ordered the Cowboy burger and it is the best hamburger I have ever had!!! The meat has great flavor. All of the hamburger ingredients were freshly prepared. It has the half pound burger, cheddar, bacon (crispy like I asked), onion rings and bbq sauce. Everything about it this burger was perfect - even the bbq sauce must be homemade. My first visit I ordered a burger from their specialty menu and was super disappointed. Basically everything we ordered tasted bad. So my family comes in town and they all want to go to Wat a Dog so whatever, I go. My father orders the famous Rebel burger and he couldn't even stomach one bite of it. So he asks the waitress about ordering something else because it was awful, she said she would ask the owner (who apparently made the food) and comes back and politely says that the owner wouldn't exchange it because he made it just fine and if he doesn't like it, too bad. Whoa! So I ordered a foot long coney this time because I knew not to order one of their strange tasting "mystery meat" burgers. I pretty much love any cheese Coney from just about anywhere but the Wat a Dog cheese Coney was terrible. I ended up having to scrape off the nasty chili just to eat it. Drove in from Columbus on a Monday because Yelp said it was open. Arrived to a closed shop. Found a big chalkboard sign showing Wot-a-Dog is closed on Monday and Tuesday. We were looking forward to a yummy rebel burger and some frosted mug root beer. Glad we have been here before, so we know they serve lots of delightful menu items. Prices are right. Good old-fashioned drive-In. We had hot dogs, crinkle fries and soda. Many burgers and other things, including floats on the menu. Dogs are not natural casing, steamed and on steamed buns. Fair warning, the relish on the dog is dill not sweet! Never been served that in a hot dog before. Different a little salty for my taste. We come to Wot-a-Dog fairly frequently and almost every time recently the root beer machine has been down. Today was no exception. The service is always good and our food comes out quickly a majority of the time. We have noticed recently the quality of the food has gone down. It is almost to the point where we won't be coming back. There is a lot of selection but nothing that is overwhelmingly good. Focus on a few things and make them great before adding a bunch of stuff and everything just being "okay." It is ridiculous to pay $6.50 for a bacon cheeseburger when the patty is half the size of the bun and is burnt with one piece of bacon. ‍ read more

Having never written a Yelp review before, I was compelled to share my thoughts about Wot-A-Dog. Although I now live in Columbus, I grew up in the Dayton area, and I still make an attempt to come back to visit this place every Summer. Before I moved away, my friend and I would eat here during Summers way too often, because it's just so delicious. They have a lot of Americana classics like coney dogs, tenderloin sandwiches, and burgers. There's a very specific meal you have to get when you come here, though, because it's what I always ordered, and I'm always right. - A foot-long chili dog. Now, your toppings can vary because moods and tastes change daily, but you can't go wrong with the 'less is more' approach. Just chili will never fail you. Cheese and jalapenos will add some extra flavor if you're in the mood, but it's very unnecessary because of how flavorful the chili sauce is. - An order of onion rings. They do them right at Wot-A-Dog...crispy and tender. - Root beer in a frosted mug. The glass you get this in is so frosted and cold that a thin layer of icy root beer floats near the top. On a hot day, it's so refreshing and delicious, and I'm not even much of a pop guy. This trifecta will deliver what is, in my opinion, the true Wot-A-Dog experience. read more

Went here one evening after wanting a bite after not having it since I used to work by there. I pulled up to have my order taken and waited for about 10 min. No one placed my order, I assumed they were busy, until I saw a car pull up next to me and were instantly serviced. I saw others get serviced prior to me as well. I then see two young women look over at my car, point and then walk the opposite direction. Long story short I never had my order taken and felt highly disrespected in the process. My visit to Wot-A-Dog this summer brought back great memories of childhood visits to a root beer stand. The night I visited there were two young servers who were friendly and helpful. The root beer was the best root beer I've had in years, and was very reminiscent of how it tasted in my childhood years. My foot long coney was good, but the sauce was only average. They might be "cute" and "quaint," but at least yesterday evening, they were extremely flustered and terribly understaffed... Our very simple order was mucked up twice, and we felt so sorry for the poor kid who took the order (and was running around all over the place to attend to all the cars/people that were arriving by the minute) that we just let it go. They apparently don't want people going up to the window to ask questions/order something else/fix problems, so we had to wait for the poor kid to come back and attempt to fix things up. It was a nice evening, and it was no problem sitting out on the (roofless) patio a bit, but my craving for some ice cream to end the meal was unfullfilled, because we got tired of waiting for her to come back (and going up to the window seemed to result in the screen getting shut in your face!!) Waited a long time for them to re-opened under new ownership. Ordered carry out of a variety of food to try some of our favorites. When we got home, our order was wrong, missing food items, the curly fries and waffle fries were soggy, chili tasted old, and tenderloin sandwich did not have much taste, the coney sauce tasted old, hot dogs were dried out. I've been visiting wot a dog now for several years after hearing about the place from a co worker. I love the rootbear floats, but then again everyone does! Service normally is fairly prompt although when they get busy, they get BUSY. Still, I've never had a bad experience and I always enjoy my time when I'm there. read more

We are so happy that Wot A Dog is back! Truly a throwback drive-in from the good old days. We live in Columbus and time our trips, so we can stop a Wot A Dog. Not just the food (which we love), but the experience of the drive-in and car hops! Reading some of the reviews makes me sad that people don't realize what they've got - a locally owned old fashioned drive-in restaurant that is a blast from the past. Understand if someone can't afford a premium product, but a 1/2 pound burger with lettuce, tomato and onion for $7.95 is reasonable - come to Columbus and you'll pay $9.00 to $16.00 for a 1/2 pound burger. And, a regular hot dog for $2.50, a coney for $2.75 and a foot long hot dog for $3.95 are equally reasonable prices. The menu they have is a "Grand Opening Limited Menu" - hopefully, the final menu will include the regular 1/4 pound burger and a double-decker burger with the special Texas sauce... Their hamburgers and hot dogs are quality products - not frozen meat patties and frozen dogs you get elsewhere. Please support this gem and keep a little bit of the past with us! read more
