We went to Mel-O-Dee for the first time. When you get there you can see it's definitely a favorite of ours. But there seems to be a seat ready. The food is so good. It's so hard to decide but I will be back again and again to try them all. The service is fast and so friendly. I had pot roast with red potatoes and carrots. So good! My hubby had fish and fries. Huge portions so you got a lunch for the next day. He is picky on his fish but said he loved it. I had to finish it off with coconut cream pie. I definitely recommend it. It's like a cozy diner. Christina was working both the counter and the dining room and she rocks! This was a nostalgia visit for the comfort food of my childhood. This is where I shared a last meal with a father figure 18 months ago, before he passed. The coleslaw is of the wet variety and includes a bit of shredded carrots. The terrific chicken fried steak was swimming in white gravy. This is Ohio, so don't expect pepper. I added pepper. The Mac & cheese is not creamy, but not solid ... think Ohio-lumpy. Had the Broasted Haddock which was on the Weekend Specials menu. It was amazing! I've had fish at many high end restaurants. This absolutely stands out along side the best, but at a much more reasonable price. The house made tartar sauce was wonderful. (I don't always like tartar sauce, but this was an exception). You could tell the iced tea was house brewed. The house baked bread was fantastic. A very clean diner. Our server Kelley was very helpful. She received twice the tip we usually leave. The food is country, down-home cooking, and there is a lot of it: fresh-baked bread and excellent coleslaw. This is a Saturday night. We were served dinner at 8 p.m., and they started cleaning the floors and tables and putting the chairs up on the tables while we were eating. It felt rushed and very unwelcoming. There was a traumatic death of the mother of my daughter's best friend. We called several days in advance and were assured the order would be ready for pick up at 1:30pm, as we needed to drive back to Trotwood, to get the chicken to the after memorial dinner to celebrate this mama's life. My daughter is extremely passive and is not one that will speak up about the ridiculousness of her being told at the time of pick up that that had just started cooking the order. The food was average. Nothing special. The pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes & gravy was like any typical diner. The salad was lettuce with some grated carrots. My husband had the famous coleslaw, which was good, only because the dressing was sweet. They did have homemade sliced bread which was okay. I would rather have a roll. The 2 piece broasted chicken dinner (dark meat) was good, but the leg was very small. The server was good and the amount of time there was good. They were very busy for a Sunday evening. Which is three eggs with cheese, sausage, onions, green peppers, and tomatoes served toast or biscuits and your choice of sausage gravy, hash browns, fried apples, or sliced tomatoes. I went to this restaurant for the first time in 30 years. My husband and I used to go a lot in the 1980's. The food was good but I was disappointed in my carry out order. I ordered the 8 piece of chicken $19.99. The pieces were mostly wings and not much white meat. What upset me the most was the time it took to get the order and when I got it home it was overcooked to the point of almost burned. The waitress we had could have been a little friendlier. She would not listen to what you had to say and wanted to run off quick. My gd asked no ice in her drink she brought a drink with ice. I asked for 1 box she brought 2. We waited a long time at the table after we were finished and she finally came by and said oh your order will be at the check out. We waited 15 minutes and it was ordered at the same time as our meal. Service was not great. read more

First you may find a line at the door, understandable, because it is popular. The line moves fast. Not fancy with ordinary tables and chairs, minimal wall decorations and no table decorations. The menu is large with Broasted items the highlight of the meals. Either pork, chicken or fish the specialty of the place. The service is great the food homemade quality and the proces comparable with surrounding locations. Difference is in the quantity of food the abundance of bread and butter and the size of the drinks. I left this place with food to spare and a full stomach. Completely unprofessional. Not only did I find a hair in the food (yuck)! I witnessed the manager be completely unprofessional with an employee. She was yelling at her and fired her in front of the entire restaurant. Not what I wanted to see while I'm eating my dinner. How dare that manager embarrass that young lady.
