Going at 3 stars as I should have first visited "Yelp", and asked the wait staff about how my order turned out. First time visit I choose the "Bowl Egg, Spicy Sausage" for $7.99. In my opinion it was just pretty much a bowl of white rice with scramble egg w/some sausage, and other partial ingredients. Observed that everything comes in cooked in separate air tight packages, and they just pretty much add it to a big pot and combine everything. I was stuck at Reagan airport for while and was looking for something to eat near my gate. I was hoping for a non-big chain restaurant as most of the airports I'm in have that. I was pleasantly surprised of the options at this airport. Considering this airport is not very big, the food options were pretty good especially at Wow Bao. The line got long several times but noticed how efficiently the team operated. Like all things at the airport and at concert/sports venues the price point always tends to hug the pricier end. They had two combo offerings and everything else was a la carte. I opted for the 5 dumplings and 2 bao buns. Wish I ordered like 10 of those dumplings. They were pretty solid for an airport quick eats and generous filling too which I always appreciate. Good texture on the dumplings. I highly recommend this if you're a fan of gyozas/dumplings. The buns I got was also pretty good but the real all star in my opinion are Wow Bao's dumplings. Check them out if you're in the area. read more

Wow Bao legit did wow me! I'm not a huge airport food fan but saw this place had decent reviews. The line was a tad long but it gave me more time to figure out what I wanted to order. To be safe, I went with a teriyaki chicken bun and a coconut one. Damn, were these things good! My only complaint was that the bun itself was a bit dry so I recommend adding some sriracha or soy sauce. The coconut bun is perfect if you want a dessert. I like the sweet bread that bao's usually come in and i thought it would go well with eggs and bacon. However, when I actually ate the bao, I wasn't very impressed, but again, maybe my expectations were too high. I got an 8 pack of potstickers and a bowl + 2 bao combo. They didn't give me my potstickers and the bao was rock hard! One of the few places that opened before 6 am on Sunday, Wow Bao presented quaint, tidy presentations of hot food. We opted for four, two each of egg, bacon, and cheddar and of egg, spinach, and mushroom. All were excellent but on the small side. Then again, it's like little stuffed pillows of warm food going down to the stomach before a cross country flight. Seems like a good way to segue from takeoff to sleep. I will say the breakfast options aren't conventionally Chinese in the sense of stuffing, but the baos and bowls are easy to travel with and we got our food pretty quickly. The steamed dumplings were good and goes great with the light soy sauce. Service is relatively fast, the food is already prepared, so pretty much all you're waiting for is for them to place the items in the containers. I've been sitting at the counter eating for at least 20 mins. The entire time there was a prepared rice bowl sitting behind the counter. Someone ordered a rice bowl and the employee began making one. The manager came over and in a language other than English told the employee to just top off the old bowl with fresh eggs. They then served this to the customer. Eggs and rice sitting at room temperature for at least 20 mins. Good luck with your flight, sir. I've eaten here many times and will be cautious in the future as I prefer not to get food poisoning when traveling. Meh. Not bad. Not great. Since most airport restaurants are 1-2 star quality, I'm giving this one a 3 because it's (1) something different (2) quick and (3) the coconut custard bun was really good. How hard is it to count to 5? The Mongolian beef boa was terrible. Think spicy sloppy Joe with too much cilantro. The teriyaki chicken and BBQ pork boas could have been decent but there was WAY too much cilantro in them - that's all I could taste. To be fair, I do not like cilantro and am a bit sensitive to the flavor. However, I can usually tolerate modest amounts - this was just too much. The coconut custard bun was really good - a nice treat. If I go back I'll stick to that and the dumplings. Service was fast for pre-cooked food but it wasn't particularly friendly. I've never had bao before, but was hungry the morning of my flight and saw they had "breakfast" bao. I gave it a try. The bao themselves, although I can't comment on "authenticity" since I've never had any others before, were very tasty. I was concerned the dough would be gummy or heavy, but it was surprisingly light and delicate. The filling was a combination of bacon, spinach, and egg. They tasted very fresh and was the perfect amount of food before a flight. My only gripe with this place is the service was terrible. I'm so happy when Im traveling and I have a flight leaving out of the terminal that has WOW BAO in it. I first tried this place a few years ago and it was my first time trying bao buns. I was pleasantly surprised. The food taste good and is reasonably priced. Normally when I get food from here I order the teriyaki chicken or the Thai curry chicken. My favorite is the teriyaki. The potstickers are also very good. It's a nice filling meal when you have a long day of travel and you don't really want a burger or any fast-food type of food to eat. read more

The only problem is that I can't ever get to it unless I'm actually traveling because they are past the TSA security screening at the gates of Reagan National Airport. The buns are always steamed perfectly and I'm always shocked at how flavorful they are. Every type of bun they have, I've tried and I've literally loved every one of them. Because they're in the airport though, the service leaves a lot to be desired (seriously, the employees seem totally disinterested), but the food is the only reason I ignore it. Came here for breakfast while waiting for a morning flight. Interesting concept- unfortunately only the breakfast menu was available (3 choices of bao that is steamed in the traditional Asian way, but filled with your standard western breakfast fare such as egg and spinach, egg and spicy sausage, etc. Overall the nao was good but the western filling didn't really work that well (or maybe I'm biased because I grew up eating traditional buns). I wonder if the lunch ones would taste better. The vinager sauce with sriracha added is the bomb though. read more

This place is really difficult to rate. The actual BBQ pork bao was delicious. There is a very complex seasoning with hints of fresh herbs. However, the baos are small, and the meat used isn't tender. Also the baos stick to the paper on which they are steamed. Usually this isn't a problem because you can peel the paper but these baos are made with too thin of a base so the whole bottom rips off when you take the paper off spilling your fillings if you aren't careful enough to peel them upside down. Bao making 101 is to make the base slightly thicker and to use paper that doesn't stick too much. So they're a yummy treat but not made well and expensive given how small they are. read more

We all know it. Food at the airport is expensive, and it generally is never good. But we have to eat when we're traveling, we generally have to bite the bullet, and suffer through it. Ronald Reagan In DC/VA has a little place that is an exception to the rule. Wow Bao does a decent job with their Bao, dumolings, and soup. I would definitely recommend getting the large soup. It seemed to be a chicken base with long noodles, cabbage, and 6 really good dumplings. And, at $5.95, it's the best deal on the menu. I gave the place 4 stars because it's an Airport restaurant. The contents of the "bun" were unrecognizable from any of the listed ingredients. I would objectively say the interior appeared to be filled with something resembling dirty sand. In both taste and appearance the "bun" resembled a product comprised of materials not from the natural world; imagine a frothy, synthetic foam emanating from a spray can that is steamed and called a "bun."
