You have been warned. Our family has spent hundreds of dollars from here over the past year. The food has steadily gone down hill in quality and taste from pre fried over battered chicken that also must have been frozen after being fried then fried again when needed as there was no moisture left in the meat it was also tough as a boot, the batter slipped off among other issues. But on Mother's Day, it was the last straw. Called after picking up and eating some of our meal because we had ROTTEN SCALLOPS. Clearly BAD. The person on the phone (call center in a far away land) would not connect me with the store, instead put on a "manager" who again was at via call center. We went back to the store with the rotten food and explained the issue and phone experience. The young gentleman at the front consulted with presumably the owner and she came out very angrily after some yelling for the young man to tell me and I quote "yea so the reason is because you didn't want seasoning, the msg on your food" Let that sink in. The flavor enhancing MSG was not on my scallop dish at my request so that's why there was nothing there to mask the taste of rotten scallops... MY FAULT? Uhhhh... Never coming back. read more

I've ordered from Ho's for years as it is convenient. Parking is not too bad and it's easy to get some takeout after going to CVS in the shopping center. The food is never amazing but it is satisfactory. I like their lunch menu's $7.25 prices which have brought me here many times. I've had the sweet and sour chicken, shrimp fried rice, orange chicken, cashew nuts with shrimp, Singapore noodles, egg rolls. The food is decent and have never had anything that's been bad. I think it's the consistent unfriendly service that may prevent me from going back frequently. The last time I went I ordered online as I wasn't feeling great. When I came in I asked if I could use their coupons in the menu as I spent nearly $40. I asked for the egg rolls or 2 sodas but the woman at the counter and gave me a look of disgust when I asked why I couldn't use the coupons and that Ive been a customer for years. It turns out that you can only use the coupons if you order in person, but you cannot use them for a mobile order. If that's the case, then it would be helpful to put it on their website so that it is clear. The principle of it just bothered me. I prefer Eastern Carryout on Pershing Drive if I had to choose because they have great lunch specials too, a bit more expensive at $8.25 but are friendlier and there are tables to sit and eat if you'd like. read more

I ordered the healthy steamed shrimp and veggies for delivery. When it arrived each shrimp was mushy and soft and would just fall apart. That shouldn't happen especially with every shrimp in an order. It was totally inedible and unappealing. I called to inform the restaurant. They offered me a $6 credit. I requested a full credit on the entrée since it was inedible. They told me in order to get a full credit, I would have to drive the food back to the restaurant. Reminder, I requested delivery to begin with and they messed up the order and then asked me to drive it back to them for a full entree credit. They also told me that they wouldn't give me a full credit because they hadn't received any other calls complaining about food tonight. I've posted a picture of the shrimp. I realize it's hard to visually see what I'm describing, but if you've ever had shrimp that was mushy and soft and fell apart this is what it looks like in a photo. The owner was the one making these decisions that were relayed back to me on the phone. Absolutely terrible and cheap owner with no regard for a paying customer, or the quality output of their food. Sorry, but I must pass on this one. I've been on the hunt for New york style Chinese food, and this didn't hit the mark. I ordered chicken and broccoli with egg rolls. You can taste a lot of fish sauce in the chicken and Broccoli...not a fan. Also, the egg rolls were not good. Mushy inside and no flavor. I'm looking for that pork inside, and I saw nothing. Ho's is my absolute favorite neighborhood Chinese takeaway spot. They are like a trusted old friend that rarely lets you down. Whenever I don't feel like cooking, Hos is my go to! Their prices are low and their food is tasty. I have several go-to dishes including shrimp lo mein, chicken with mixed veggies, orange chicken, egg rolls, fried chicken wings, wonton soup and more. I order quite frequently from Ho's and have had a few problems like missing items from the order which they took care of the problem. On this occasion I ordered and when the food was delivered it was completely unacceptable. The vegetables were not throughly cooked, the eggrolls were burnt and I can't describe how terribly overcooked the fried wonton were. I called the restaurant and asked for a review which they agreed to but said they would come back to pick up the food. I have no problem with that so I threw the slop back into the bag for them to pickup. To bad they can't deliver the food as fast as they can come back to pick it up. read more

THIS WHAT HAPPENED. I ordered wonton soup, egg rolls, and combo fried rice. I got home ate one egg roll.. it was good. Had a little wonton soup.. it was too heavy on the thick wonton wrapper .. so I ate only one.. (it wasn't a deal breaker)... my PROBLEM was the FRIED RICE. The RICE was undercooked. .. straight up crunchy on the inside. Sooo-- I called. I told them. I was told -- my manager will call you back. 30 mins later-- NO CALL BACK. So OK. I called back -- to someone telling me -- the manager will call you back. ... I live 8 mins away -- so I'm p'd off now... I pack it all up to take it back. I get there and they don't listen to me. I DON'T say the quiet part out loud... HOW CAN THIS TYPE OF RESTAURANT UNDERCOOK RICE!!! RICE!!... rice.... So, I just asked for a refund. They offered me $3 back from my $20 order. Because I ate an egg roll and had crunched my way through 1/3 of a cup of undercooked rice. Oh .. and I ate one wonton of 3. Are you kidding me? I'm not gonna tell you what I had to say at that point because I'm already repenting for it. -- I got most of my money back. $15 of it. This is the thing. I am a restaurant person. Mistakes happen.. I get it more than most... but, all of this could Have been avoided -- IF their --tee customer service and interaction were better. If you say you're gonna call me back-- call me back. Put an order in for pickup. Thought I could trust this place since i got food delivered prior to my building and food was great. This time i put an order for pickup around 8:30pm. I got there and made sure my drink was included and I even bought an extra lemonade....once I got home my girlfriend notified me her fried chicken and fries had a single moving/alive/thriving MAGGOT IN IT!!! I have been here a few times and have gotten the sweet and sour chicken as a main meal. It is simple and hard to mess up. I have also gotten a few things different each time to try. The dumplings are huge, not like typical dumplings from anywhere else. Take that as you will, but the inside flavors are also not great. The fried rice tastes and looks nothing like fried rice. It is just a yellow rice with onion(?) in it. I was expecting traditional fried rice with the egg and veggies. This is not what I got. The lo mein was hard to get through just a few bites. It had a very smokey taste, that then stuck around in my mouth for a while afterwards. I really did not even taste the lo mein, I could only taste the smokey taste. read more

I didn't like their fried rice because it's yellow and not as tasty as other ones. I think fried rice should look more brown than yellow.

I have been to this restaurant many times usually only for crab Rangoon though. However, I finally tried their lunch special and let me tell you. It's super affordable!! I ordered general tso, beef lo mein, and sweet and sour soup. All for around $21. Like are you kidding me? This is like precovid price. I couldn't find anywhere that beat this price. The food was also pretty good. The only complaint is they did mess up our order bc their fax machine was down. Oh well, who doesn't make a mistake? Ho's is our go-to Alexandria (Fairlington) Chinese takeout. The food is well above average. I always stick with my go-to order: general tso's chicken combo. I love the fact Ho's allows you to customize your rice options (pro tip: order the spicy pork fried rice). The combo dinner comes with an egg roll and a good portion of food that if you're looking to be stringent could be parsed out over two meals. The staff are always busy (a good sign) yet attentive when you call and order. Better than the over-priced sit down restaurants! They customized my order with no complaints! I didn't want to stop eating it! The portions were huge and price was great! Update: July 20th- I ordered from them another time, and I asked for white meat in the general Taos and they sent me the sweet-and-sour chicken with general Taos sauce.
