Funspot is a classic amusement arcade that opened in Laconia, New Hampshire in June 1952. It was…read morefounded by American businessman and politician Robert M. Lawton. As recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, Funspot is the LARGEST arcade in the world. Originally opened as the Weirs Sports Center, then 21-year-old Lawton opened it as an indoor miniature golf course and penny arcade with $750 borrowed from his grandmother. It was originally located in the top floor of Tarlson's Arcade building across from the Weirs Beach boardwalk. In 1964, Lawton purchased 21 acres of land nearby and relocated his business there. At this time, it was renamed "Funspot". By the 1980s, arcade cabinets and pinball machines had become the most popular attractions at Funspot. The business soon switched from quarters to tokens. Lawton continued to expand the business and even opened six satellite locations, but they all closed down by the late 1990s. Funspot was heavily featured in the 2007 film "The King of Kong": a universally-acclaimed documentary about competitive arcade gaming. Today Funspot has over 600 video games (both retro and modern), pinball machines, ticket redemption machines, an indoor miniature golf course, 20-lane ten-pin and candlepin bowling, cash bingo, a restaurant, a tavern, an ice cream stand, kiddie rides and several other attractions on its grounds. It is also home to the American Classic Arcade Museum. My extended family and I visited Funspot this past summer while we were spending the week in Maine. On one day in particular, it was a little too rainy to go to the beach. Funspot was just an hour drive from where we were staying, so we made the trip and arrived in time for the opening. I have wanted to visit Funspot ever since I saw the film "The King of Kong"; it had been on my bucket list for a while. This place is HUGE; they have so many classic arcade cabinets and pinball machines from the golden age of arcade games (roughly late 1970s to early 1980s). "Donkey Kong", "Pac-Man", "Galaga", "Frogger", you name it and they had it. My wife and I had so much fun taking turns on all of the various arcade cabinets and pinball machines. I especially enjoyed playing "JAWS" pinball in a shark cage of all places. Our two sons especially enjoyed all of the various driving games as well as all of the vintage kiddie rides. My family also enjoyed a few rounds of skee-ball and air hockey. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun; I never wanted to leave. If you are a fan of classic arcades then you simply must make the pilgrimage to Funspot!

Super easy to get tokens too ($20 gets you 110, which lasts a while since old-school games are just 1 token and newer ones run 2-4). I had a great time on Burgertime and pinball--though I wish they had the Addams Family, Millionaire was still a fun one. Beyond the arcade, they've got indoor mini golf, bowling, and even a tavern, so there's something for everyone, kids and adults alike. This place is fantastic and I'll definitely be back. Pro tip: make sure to head across the street to 603 Sweets after--perfect way to end the day.

Each child received a $20 game card, unlimited drinks, slices of pizza, one 30 minute laser tag session and a slice of very yummy cake. We did purchase additional pizzas for the adults, as well. Everyone had a great time! We even stayed after our reservation time was up because it was so awesome. I was a little annoyed with how they crammed several parties together in the small area behind the Axe Throwing. They had each party in a "lane" sectioned off by waiting line "ropes". Because of the small space the guests were asked to please be elsewhere until "party time" (aka pizza and cake). We were told that we could rent additional tables for $50/each. We declined and decided to go hang out in the regular seating area. The food was great, the place has been transformed into something really cool (a huge difference from the old Space Center), and overall I am very happy with the decision to have his party here HUGEEEEE shout out to our party hostess, Star. She was absolutely amazing and so kind. She was sweet and helped with everything we needed and worked her butt off to make sure all of the attendees (from all parties, not just ours) were happy. Excellent, professional service!

Your catering menu lists $25 per person with a 15-person minimum. We estimated 20 guests, but only 14 attended. I understand from the confirmation email that changes needed to be made at least five days in advance, so I recognize why we were charged for 20. However, the main issue was the service that evening. When I asked about the charge, the staff member who introduced herself as our server told me the pizzas for 20 people were already prepared and would be brought out, but she never returned. Another staff member later approached us but was argumentative rather than helpful. At that point, I simply asked for the remaining food to be boxed so we could leave. After waiting about 25 minutes with no follow-up, the food was still sitting untouched. My wife ultimately had to box up her own birthday party food. We spent around $700 expecting a fun milestone celebration, but instead left feeling ignored and frustrated. Given how quiet the venue was, the lack of attention was especially disappointing. I wanted to share this feedback in hopes it helps improve future experiences.

What can I say besides "wow!"…read more X-treme craze was a really cool place! Our family members recommended it for our son, and we're excited to take him on the bounce-house Nerf gun wars. I believe we visited on a Tuesday or Wednesday, whichever night it was they had a special an hour of Nerf wars for $20/pp. Our son had a great time in the HUGE (HUUUUUUUGE!!!) bounce area ( it is so big they have CCTV in the back for parents/non-participents to watch from the seating area). They also had a variety of games, which require a pre-paid card, but were all very reasonably priced (0.25 cents to $1.75). The pre-paid card also came with certain deals (load $10 receive $12 credit) and there were a variety of games for a variety of different skill-levels. They had the "play until you win" claw machine too, which is great for kids of all ages. The prize wall was expansive and the prizes were "priced" fairly. It ranged from a few points for candy to thousands of points for larger items. My son was able to get a stuffed animal for around 700 points, and he loves that thing. The area was clean, it was not crowded, parking was plentiful and staff was friendly and approachable. We really loved Xtreme craze.

We arrived towards the end of the traditional lunch rush however it is a Sunday and the kids don't have school tomorrow so it was definitely busier. Upon arrival we requested a table for 5. Looking around it was clear there were several open tables. The hostess Jordan was very short with us in all honesty she was rude and dismissive. She told us it would be at least 30 minutes after she just sat 3 parties before us without hesitation. If it wasn't clear there was open tables I wouldn't have minded. About 30 minutes later I went to check with her and she rolled her eyes and said we were next in line and she'd let us know. We were the only party waiting. When we were sat it was at a table that had been clean and unoccupied for the entire time we had waited. I am quite sure anyone reading this can understand why that was frustrating. Her rude attitude and demeanor truly put a damper on our afternoon that was meant to be a fun family event to celebrate my cousin. The food was pretty good but it couldn't save the experience.
