I was gonna go three stars originally so I'd say 2.5 and I'll tell you why. We had a 8pm reservation for Saturday night, We got there around 740 to sit at Bar for a drink first. The hostess greeted us and she was nice. We ordered our drinks at bar, we were seated there. Now what was interesting to me is that I ordered my usual Tito's dirty martini and wanted blue cheese stuffed olives, which they had. Now when we cash out our bill to go to the table they freaking charged me $2 for the olives!!! This is a first, because in the years I've been ordering this drink with blue cheese stuffed olives there's never been an upcharge, from Halls to Burton's NEVER! I understand the up charge for Tito's but the olives... really?!? Anyway we were sat once we were ready, nice table for two close to the back. Our waitress Paula was attentive for the most part. We started with the tomato stack and it was REALLY GOOD. I ordered the pork and my husband got the chicken... mine was pretty good but his was very over cooked. The chicken was tough and not juicy at all... that's a big negative! Especially when it's their only chicken dish option. We were in Beaufort SC last month. Were told we had to try Wren. Finally got reservations the night before we left town. Had a great meal with drinks and appetizers. Service was attentive and food was top notch. It was a chilly night so I had worn my leather jacket into the restaurant. When we paid the bill and left I was engaged in conversation with friends and walked to our hotel, I did not miss my jacket. I had in fact left it draped over my chair at one of the high tops. I did not miss it until we were leaving the next morning. I figured the jacket was gone and no one would own up or return it. We reached out to Wren and they were aware that I had left my jacket, and made arrangements to ship it home to me. Got it today! Thank you Cynthia! Great atmosphere, great food and service and above all, honest people. We had a wonderful night at your restaurant and it would have been lost had I not got my jacket back. read more

The food is still phenomenal, no doubt. Quite possibly the best food you'll find in Beaufort, especially for the price. I will return to Wren again and again due to their delicious menu, no matter what happens. I just have to point out the seriously crappy service I had upon last visit. Not only was our waitress slow, but the busser attempted to remove plates that were still being gnawed upon (as in, fork on it's way to impale lettuce) and it just totally lacked the finesse you'd expect at this price point. Our server read the specials from a piece of paper with no embellishment: it was as if she had no idea what she was saying, just spouting it out for the closest to hear. I still have no complaints on the food front but the service could use an upgrade. I know it's difficult to get quality staff in Beaufort but I think Wren is worth it. read more

There is nothing more satisfying than a good glass of bubbly in a proper glass accompanying! Mussels where divine, slightly leaning towards the spicy side but worth it. Bisque was delicious and creamy. Salmon was cooked perfectly, I prefer med-well fish and it came out just right. Risotto was good. My only complaint with the salmon dish, it had too much broth. I would have preferred a little more rice to soak up the broth making the dish slightly more meaty and filling. My husband had the pasta dish with shrimp added, he ate it all up. We had the Italian lemon cake for dessert to share, brought me back to Christmas time growing up in NY as a child. Wonderful with that 2nd glass of Prosecco to finish the meal. Wow. I don't often think to write a 5-Star review when I am in a restaurant - usually, that is for 1-Stars. The service was outstanding. The food was even better. I always get Shrimp and Grits when I am in the Low Country. I have had it at at least 100 establishments and this was one of the best - if not the best (there was this place in Charleston about 15 years ago that I can never find and I don't know if it even exist anymore....I don't remember the name). Anyway, it was outstanding. Perfect mix of grit, bacon, gravy, shrimp! Also, the butter that they bought out with the pre-meal bread was out of this world! Been to Wren many times and always enjoyed the fare. Especially the hamburger. However recently I went on hamburger night, something I hadn't done before. Clearly the hamburgers served on hamburger night are not the same as their regular burgers from the menu. My assumption was the burger night burgers would simply be the same as the burgers normally served off the menu considering the burger night price was only a few dollar less than the regular price. There was three of us this particular night. None of the burgers were cooked as requested and the buns were stale. To put it bluntly McDonalds makes a much better burger than Wrens burger night burger. At a substantially lower price. I still think highly of Wren but will avoid their burger night burgers. read more
