This is the second time I have been here. Last visit was exponentially better. While the food was good, the service left much to be desired. I ordered the uptown grilled cheese and tomato basil bisque (great comfort food). The server asked if I would like my soup first, or together with the sandwich. I replied that I wanted the two together, and would like my side salad, (substituted for the standard kettle chips) first. I received my soup 20 minutes before the rest of the food came out, and waited for my sandwich before digging in. By the time the rest of the food came out, my sandwich (accompanied by kettle chips, not the salad I ordered) was hot, but the soup was cold. Once the replacement bisque arrived, it was hot and the sandwich was cold. Simple attention to the answer she asked for would have made this a much more enjoyable lunch. read more

Entrees were good, with the highlight being the featured pasta with shrimp although the flash-fried pork chops were a close second. Unfortunately, the service was really lacking. We made reservations weeks before our New Year's Eve dinner and were excited to enjoy a nice experience. Our waitress was clearly rushed and inattentive - she didn't introduce herself 'til the third time to our table, and she then shared she doesn't usually work dinner but was "helping out" with the large NYE crowd. She did give us some good recommendations, but never really created a welcoming atmosphere. So, I have to say it was okay; not great. I have dined in twice and ordered takeout twice as well. I haven't been disappointed once. I've only ordered their shrimp and grits and it's because it's the best I've had! I've wanted to lick the plate but I control myself haha. Great service and the mood reminds you of a fancy like restaurant but a lot of people come casual. This was an awesome brunch spot. The decor is so spot on fabby, and opening at 11 made the timing perfect. Service was good. Food took a touch longer than I would have liked, and our section turned into a very noisy Kid Alley; but I am a Mom, so I hung in there. The food was yummy. I had such high hopes but was definitely a little lackluster; maybe an off night but much more impressed by breakwater or bull tavern. First the hostess seemed annoyed and seemed to set the tone for the evening. The best part was the bread before the meal, the meatloaf was just ok, the pork chop was the same nothing I'd pay for again and the ahi and shrimp was decent. This marks the third time my table has been treated rude by staff in the past 12 months. Granted these are trying times but, we were yelled at for the amount we drank, audibly talked down to from the bar, given cold food, and the lovely ladies I was with were treated very disrespectfully when trying to be kind. We made a reservation at Wren for 6:30. We arrived at about 6:20 ordered a drink from the bar and then were seated promptly at 6:30. My husband and I don't eat out often so when we do we like to take our time and enjoy our date night. The food was excellent. Portions were generous and the atmosphere of the restaurant was great. Overall it was a fantastic experience right up until the end. I ordered a second drink while eating my entree and was still sipping on it after finishing my meal. At 7:45 while my husband and I were having a conversation, the hostess came up to our table and asked us to leave because they had another reservation waiting. We had only been sitting at the table for an hour and 15 minutes. I still had some of my drink and we were considering ordering dessert but we were never asked. I have never been asked to leave a restaurant before and it left a really bad taste in my mouth and makes me not want to return. I'm still stunned that this happened. read more

We had a wonderful experience 2 weeks ago. I was in a w/c due to a broken ankle. We were immediately escorted to a rear accessible entrance. The burger would be nice if it weren't for seasoning issues and not being cooked to the correct temperature (my entire table ordered our burgers medium, but they were all well done, and the fries and burger were far too salty. I love Wren! I've consistently had good experiences here. I've been for dinner and for drinks only at the bar. They have one of the best mojitos i've ever had! The restaurant is transformed into romantic, beautiful scenery at night. I've also eaten here by myself, so you can take yourself on a date and not feel awkward. My wife and I were very excited to head to Wren a few weeks ago. The location is great, I liked the name and the attitude, and it seemed like a pretty cool/hip place. We walked in and met two friends at the bar. My wife and I sat at the bar for at least 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. The bar was pretty quiet, not more than 8 people including our party, so there's really no excuse for not saying hello or taking our order right away. We moved to our table and our server was very polite, seemed very knowledgeable, and was prompt. We ordered the Tuna app, which was excellent, and the mussels, which had great flavor, but was a very small portion, not more than 15-20 mussels. My entree was a fish special and was well presented and very well seasoned. My wife ordered the Scallops on Risotto. The risotto was very starchy, possibly overcooked, and bland. Not a great showcase of the chefs talent. Though the service was good, I was very annoyed when my plate, and both plates of the other couple, were cleared while my wife continued to finish her entree. The best part of the experience was the wine prices. You can purchase a bottle from the cafe side of the restaurant and pay $10 in corkage on the restaurant side. Great wine selection and great prices for wine. Overall, we were less than amazed. We spent almost $300 between the four of us and I expect to be very pleased at that price. I'd guess the entrees were $22-27 and at that price, I expect to be wow'd. I have heard, but don't know personally, that their lunch is excellent and that they have some of the best chicken salad around. I'd be willing to give them another chance, but feel that they need some improvement in server training and customer service. read more

On a visit to Beaufort we were looking for a place to have lunch and after reading reviews and checking it out we decided on Wren. A good choice. Wren is located in an older building with brick walls and an open space. There are also some tables in a garden area. Service was prompt and very helpful. We ordered a cup of shellfish chowder and a cup of tomato bisque. Both were very flavorful. We opted to split an order of chicken salad after noting the large portions that other diners were eating. There is a $3 charge for that, but no matter as it alleviates the messiness of having to do that on a small table with limited utensils! The chicken salad was really good with just the right amount of seasonings and was served with fresh baked whole grain bread. There were a number of people having lunch here which tells me it's quite popular. I can see why. The food is terrific! read more

Off day at Wren Today: The hostess sneered when we responded no to having lunch reservations. She then pointed to a table near a drafty door and would not move us to another table. Our waiter disappeared and we found he was also tending bar to a full bar. When he came to take our order he ask me if I was having a bad day. He took our order but we left after 20 minutes and our order had not arrived. Have had great service and food at Wren on other occasions. The restaurant was understaffed and no Management oversight. My family had dinner here tonight. My husband had salmon, my mom had the chicken and I had the Drunken Shrimp. My moms chicken dish was by far the best. The mash potatoes were delicious and the topping on the chicken had a great flavor. The salmon with asparagus dish was heavy cream risotto, very rich if you like that. My whole party loved this new (for us) spot! We went for dinner and easily snagged a reservation on OpenTable. Their cocktail list was fun to choose from and everyone enjoyed their drinks. Our waitress, Paula, was very friendly and attentive. She broke down her top 5 entrees for us. A crusty, sliced French loaf was brought over with an herbed butter/cream cheese spread. It had a lot of garlic powder in it, but we love garlic. The fried green tomato appetizer was amazing! Several of us got the mahi and shrimp with a grit cake. The mahi was a tad on the dry side and I wished my grit cake had a little more salt or some flavoring. But overall the cream sauce and perfectly cooked shrimp made up for it. Others had the meatloaf, lobster bisque, flounder, and southern salad with blackened shrimp. Everyone raved about the food and atmosphere. This place just isn't very good. I remember stopping here on our previous visit to Beaufort; the staff just didn't seem very happy to see us. We had a drink at the bar and left. On this trip, we stopped in to grab food to go because we were traveling with our pup and it was storming outside. The bartender was borderline friendly. We ordered a crab cake and a glass of wine at the bar while we waited. The wine was fine, the crab was awful, out of a can. We took a flatbread and shrimp dinner to go. The mashed potatoes were the only part of the to-go food that was worthy. It's a shame because it's across the street from where we always stay, but we'll try other places next time. read more

The shoe string french fries that accompanied it were real good but it couldn't make up for the overpriced tasteless burger. After speaking with our server I also ordered a side of onion rings, which were unseasoned and tasted fair at best. My wife had better luck with the tomato soup. It wasn't a memorable meal just very good but far better than mine. For desert ee settled on the Coconut Cream Cake and it probably would have tasted better had they let it get to room temperature before serving but it also tasted somewhat stale. Cleanliness: Very good overall bathrooms, dinning / bar area and everywhere else looked good. Overall: We were a little hesitant coming here having read a couple of the other reviews on Yelp. However it was within walking distance from our hotel and being foodies we thought we'd give it a try but after spending time at some of the other restaurants, also within walking distance from the hotel, we wish we would've chosen differently. We found Wren to fit perfectly with the Yelp rating A-OK but considering the other choices and price we won't be going back the next time we return to the area. 3 Stars sums up the place. read more

What a great and hip new addition to Beaufort! I love the decor and feel of Wren. It is upscale in a deconstructed minimalist and creative way. We didn't get a chance on our visit to enjoy the bar seating but I will next time. our dinner was fun and delicious! I had the mussels and found them to be very inventive and delicious. They really couldn't give me enough bread to soak up that wonderful sauce! wow. I must also mention that the servings were plentiful. We were stuffed. I read the other reviews about the service and we didn't have that kind of experience at all. Our server was personable, very helpful and wonderful.
