There are some great views from the top and outside is nice and shady with big trees and a nice size porch. The owner and family were so welcoming as soon as we arrived. We enjoyed a spread of tea sandwiches, warm scones with clotted, cream and jam, fresh fruits, and an assortment of teas each of which were so delicious and perfectly prepared. My personal favorite was chai which is from a recipe from a family friend, my friends' favorites were the peach oolong, sencha with Matcha, and their rose black tea. We were able to try as many as we wanted! Service was amazing. Ellie was our host and server and she did such a great job. We had the whole space to ourself so it was so fun for an intimate tea party. Highly recommend!

The presentation and our table by the window were lovely. The people were gracious. All that would be a solid 5 star. The odd part was a sense of chaos in the background. We arrived a little early. No one was available to greet us so we hung out in the Inn's lobby (after searching and calling out). Then someone did see us and assumed we were guests waiting to check into a room. Located in Altadena Ca. yet far enough "away" and hidden in the oaks that you really could not hear any cars or traffic, only birds, and lots of them! We all made a lovely dinner and enjoyed it on the most beautiful rustic table with a fire in the living room. Very cozy, beautiful art done by the owner adorns the walls. Three bedrooms and a pull out couch and enough space to not be falling all over each other. Owners are on site, and very friendly- I highly recommend taking a mini vacation here if you are local or an extended stay if you are traveling far.

The Lanterman House is a craftsman museum house Listed on the National Register of Historic Places…read more The owner of this house was Dr. Roy Lanterman and wife, Emily, and they bequeath it to the City of La Cañada Flintridge. We registered for a group tour which cost $5/pp. The group was greeted by two old docent female staff (Marylou and Gayle). We started off by watching a short film about the history of La Cañada and the Lanterman family back in the late 1880. Some highlights about the tour: This house has a U-shaped Mexican Colonial hacienda design with 35 French windows, multiple rooms, a playroom, an entertainment room, Doctor's office, a large granite fireplace and a dance ballroom. Our docent was very knowledgeable and amiable. The house itself is not an estate per se but rather sits on a large lot. The house has many cool artifacts. Free parking lot on the side of the house. Tour lasted 75 mins. Overall, it's a nice historic house by the family who contributed significantly to the city of La Cañada.

Access only via scheduled docent led tours - it's a well-spent 1.5 hours for, believe it or not, only $5 for adults (discounts for Seniors and Students to $3, I think.) I won't repeat the program structure re: starting with a video and the path of the tour, as other reviews cover this accurately. But I will say if you're interested in stepping into a home and learning about the history of an area (La Canada) via the eyes of a family very influential to its growth, this is a must for you. Any history buff, and avid documentary watcher (you know who you are LOL) will enjoy a visit. The interiors have been restored and the vast majority of the furniture, art and collectibles are original to the 1915 construction. This is thanks to some "pack rat" sons who kept everything and more inside their parents' house before it was finally acquired by the city of La Cañada as a historical home. This isn't a vast Vanderbilt, grand estate - it's a beautiful and charming family home that has surprisingly modern touches that were ahead of their time - but maintaining the quiet elegance of another era. Docent Yvonne was lovely and the volunteer team at the Visitor Center equally helpful and kind. Great step back in time - you'll feel as if the Lanterman family could walk around the corner at any moment. Just go, you'll enjoy it!!! :-)

The Saga Motel in Pasadena, is located across from the Pasadena City College. The first impression…read morewas in the check-in office which had a really bad old smell. Parking is mostly in the back. It has a really nice pool, compared to the tiny pool at the Howard Johnson's next door. The rooms are relatively large, with a big windows. Windows either face an apartment building (North side) and the parking lot on the backside, or Colorado Blvd. And Pasadena City College on the south (Front side) I stayed in a King room on the second floor. There are no elevators, no luggage carts, no microwave. You'll need to be able to climb up quite a few stairs if your room is on the top floor. Rooms feel very dated with the only USB or 3-Prong AC slots being on a desk. All of the rest of the AC slots are ancient two prong slots. You'll find it amusing if you've stayed at other motels and hotels, when they hand you a physical key for your room. Lose it and you'll be charged $200. There are two locks on the door. A lock in the door knob and a deadbolt lock. I thought I had the wrong key, because I didn't realize it had a lock in the door knob, and the key provided does not work in the deadbolt lock, which I was trying to open. The bed was an old school spring mattress and wasn't very comfortable. It was too firm. The furniture is well made and good quality, but reminded me of something I would see at a Goodwill or Salvation army thrift store. The television was the smallest I've seen in any motel or hotel in recent years. Not having a Microwave, for the price charged to stay here is a big disadvanatage. It had a well working air conditioner and a large mini-fridge with a separate freezer section. I wouldn't recommend these rooms for watching the Rose Parade from the room. You wouldn't be able to see much and the noise would be pretty bad. There was considerable noise from guests and room doors closing and opening in the hallway. The shower and restroom is relatively small, with no hand rails in the tub. You'll need to put a rubber non-slip mat down inside. There was no-ventilation fan in the restoom. Interestingly, there were quite a few books in the room under the TV for those who enjoy reading, and I think this location might be an o.k. place for an avid book reader who wants to get away to an 1950's t0 70's experience. It reminded me a little of rooms I saw while watching the, "I love lucy" tv show. A continental breakfast is provided each morning, bigger and better than what you'll get at the Howard Johnson's next door. I met several guests while entering and leaving my room, they all seemed to be from outside of the United States, from perhaps Canada or Europe. Which honestly makes sense, because this location is primarily listed on large booking websites only, or its own website. It was clean, didn't have any unusual old smells, chemical smells, etc. Which means it's probably fairly safe for those with allergies or respiratory issues. This would not be a location I would want to stay at for more than a few days. It is a little pricey for the area based on its limited amenities. You'll need to eat out most likely unless you're eating cold food and sandwiches. There are a lot of food options within walking distance. I would stay here again, but not for more than one or two nights max. I would stay here over the Pasadena Travel Lodge, or Ramada. This location is family owned and operated, speaking Taiwanese and English. My only encounter with an a non-front desk employee was less than desirable.

Pasadena Hotel is officially one of my top picks! Parking: Self-parking is available for $5/hour (max $35). Note: no validation. Check-in: Quick and friendly. The front desk explained pool hours and directions. The lobby itself is a vibe; moody but cozy, featuring cool touches like vintage telephone booths, table games, a welcoming fireplace with comfy seating, and a small bar offering coffee early and cocktails later. Food: Before heading up, I stopped by BBAD (connected breakfast burrito spot). Highly recommend! The Pool: Arriving early on Sunday meant I had the whole rooftop and pool to myself for almost two magical hours. The warm, overcast morning and occasional chorus from Pasadena's parrots made it a perfect self-care escape: reading, napping, swimming laps. It did get busier closer to noon (maybe five others until then), but still felt relaxed compared to other weekend days. Or so I've heard. Drink/food service starts at noon, delivered poolside. The Spicy Margarita was delicious! Facilities: Clean space, restrooms close by, surprisingly soft towels. Con: No free water stations which is unusual for a hotel pool. Only bottled water for sale, so bring your own. Overall: My Sunday escape was top notch! I'll definitely be back. Highly recommend for solo self-care or a chill day with friends.

It's a bit smaller than it appears on the website, but the vibe was perfect. They had music playing and a bartender on duty, making it the ultimate spot to lounge, chill, and just enjoy the atmosphere before we headed out to a soccer match. ​Check-in and check-out were incredibly easy and seamless. The hotel has a great, welcoming atmosphere and a rich, historic charm. We'd definitely stay again for a quick local getaway!

Additionally there was a full length mirror, coat rack, luggage rack, air conditioning unit, microwave, refrigerator, hand sink in the room and complimentary soap bars in the bathroom! The motel is easily accessible via public transit and there is a chevron gas station right across from it! Only issues here are: $20 CASH deposit required at check in! NO guest laundry! NO fitness center! NO swimming pool! NO ice and vending machine as well! Also I was awoken in the morning by construction workers who were using leaf blowers outside my room door
