Charles is a ROCK STAR. Love this guy. He knows bikes - and really knows bikes - but is down to earth, always helpful, reasonable, and has his customer in mind. He just recently went out of his way in helping me to purchase a big deal (for me) new bike - helping me do research, measuring the specs on my bike and comparing them to the new one, etc. He has also fixed many things on my current/old bike. It's a great co-op shop, where you can work on your bike anytime with the tools, etc. just by becoming a member (via a one time fee). This is a strange review- everybody into the Wayback Machine! In 2006 I bought my first really *great* bike- a 1985 Specialized Allez with a complete Dura Ace gruppo. I knew zilch bout bikes and brought it to Wright Brothers that March and asked them to tell me what it needed, fix it up so it ran beautifully, and make it so it would last. They put on a new bottom bracket and some minor parts, adjusted everything and custom-built new wheels for me. Well, I rode it around my 5000th mile this year and it still sings, just beautifully. In that time it has required no repair or rework outside of minor adjustments and has always absolutely delighted me and my friends. That's some quality work; you can count on these guys 100%. read more

Charles knows what he's doing and cares about your bike! He's owned the shop for 40 years and he and one very good employee do all of the work, so quality control is tight. The shop is unique - you can have your bike fixed or work on it yourself. I wanted to learn a little something about how to fix my bike and happened upon Charles' classes. I've taken 2 classes here and signed up for his co-op work space where folks can work on their bikes, use his tools, and ask him questions along the way. Charles helped me build 2 wheels and turn a 1980s Cannondale into a great touring bike. I can't imagine that there is anyone in the city more knowledgeable about bicycles than Charles. read more

Excellent services with a personal touch and instructions. Everything you need from a bike shop and more. Just visited the shop late on Sunday to get my commuter bike fixed which needed a lot of work after three years of ridding around Europe without any repairs and Charles stayed late, much past his closing time to replace the parts, show me the fix options and how to do it myself. Charles was awesome! I was just given a bike from Costco and knew it was put together all wrong (the wheel and handle bars went different directions) Charles took my bike and put an ASAP on it. He called me the very next day to pick it up. When I arrived to pick it up Charles went through the whole bike and showed me what he did and how I can do a few things on my own next time. I love supporting my local bike shop, especially when they are totally awesome! only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that it ended up being more expensive than I was quoted. Wright Bros. is a co-op where you pay a single lifetime membership fee, and you get access to the comprehensive set of professional equipment that they have there for most common repair scenarios with nearly any bicycle. They also sell parts, and have an extensive collection. I just got finished building a new wheel here with a buddy. I walked in there without any idea of how to build a wheel; my friend had the expertise. It would have been helpful had I watched a video or something ahead of time, but the owner Charles has infinite patience and walked me (and often hand held me) through the entire process from spoke selection/lacing, to truing/rounding/dishing, etc. Took 10 hours over 2 days, but I have an awesome new rear wheel now. Over the couple days, I was able to witness Charles helping all sorts of people coming through the door. Whether he had to rebuild a freewheel on the fly or just tighten up someone's cranks, he always goes out of his way to help someone out. I'm looking forward to a future opportunity to use the shop. read more

This place is AMAZING!! Charles is basically an encyclopedia of cycling and helpful with anything as basic as what tube to buy for a flat tire, to how to completely rebuild an old French road bike (what I'm currently tackling right now). One of my favorite parts is the workshop - you can use all his tools, stands, and knowledge for a $40 lifetime membership fee. Seeing as how my partner would hate me if I decided to work in our tiny apartment, his workspace is a lifesaver. Highly recommend this spot and it's always good to support local small businesses. read more

Wright Bros is awesome. I have an older, but wonderful touring bike that is getting hard to find parts for. As I was getting ready to take it to the bigger local guys for a tuneup, a friend who commutes on a similar bike recommended Wright Brothers. Rather than be derisive me about not having a newer bike, Charles embraced the challenge. Noting that my rear derailleur was bent, he turned to a box that he just happened to have and pulled out the long discontinued part. Awesome. (And, as it turned out, the bigger local guys had actually installed things totally bassackwards when it had last been serviced). I'll be back for sure. read more

The knowledgeable staff solved all my bike problems, didn't make me feel like a fool for knowing nothing about bike repair or maintenance, and chatted jovially with me while they worked on my ride. I took the basic maintenance course ($50 for 4 - 2 hour sessions) and now tackle my own tune-ups which easily saves me a couple hundred dollars a year. The very best in customer and bike service. I called to see if someone could look at my bike shifting and was told they could look at it but not promise fixing that day since they were busy. Long story shorter I show up and not only did my bike get fixed but I had a one-on-one bike repair class. I learned how to overhaul my whole rear shifting. What is that going to cost??? This place is great. I was looking for the Soma 456 bars and had no luck when calling the other shops. Looked this place up and decided to check it out. Coincidently, they had the bars I wanted. They let me pop my bike on the stand and check the fit before purchasing. Also, they hooked me up with some classic rubber bar ends. This place is definitely recommended for service and/or bike building. These guys know what they're doing. read more

I don't write a lot of reviews, but I'm compelled to write one for the fantastic service I get at Wright Bros. Charles and his team have saved me three times--once when they sold me a tube after hours to fix a flat, once when I had a little tumble on my way to work and left my bike locked to the rack outside their shop (when I called to ask them to work on it, the first thing Charles asked was whether I was ok!), and recently when they had to redo some work previously done on my bike. In every instance Wright Bros has been prompt, timely, and an incredible wealth of information. I don't know much about bikes and Charles has patiently walked me through what he's done, offered me advice, and helped me to be a better bike commuter without making me feel like an idiot. Their prices are extremely reasonable, and the quality top notch. I've been to 6+ bike shops in Seattle and now will never go to anyone else but Wright Bros. I have not even picked my bike up yet but I would give this shop ten stars if I could. I thought I might have totaled my beloved bike across the bridge with my two kids in tow. Dragging around an unridable bike, bike trailer, and kids, I was having a pretty miserable day and tried the closest shop first. Free Range Cycles did not even look at the bike, but just kind of dismissively told me I could not leave it there and to come back a different day because they were too busy. Wright Bros was next stop, and it was the complete opposite experience - Charles was gracious, reassuring, and knowledgeable. The part needed was discontinued so, on top of attending to numerous other issues, he drilled and filed a different part to make my frame complete again. Legendary service and I cannot express how grateful I am. This shop is not the closest to me, as I don't even live in Fremont, but as long as we live in Seattle I won't go anywhere else. read more

I've been a Wright Bros customer for a little over a year. On my first visit I was floored by the level of service I got. Broken spoke fixed right on the spot and a short lesson on wheel truing. Charles charged me about half of what I'd paid at another shop earlier in the year, did a better job, took a fraction of the time, and taught me the basics of wheel truing/rounding. I'm a regular bike commuter and take reasonable care of my ride, but decided I wanted to learn more. So I signed up for the co-op and started taking some classes. I started by taking his wheel building class which was a lot of fun. Most of the students had built their own wheel sets by then end of the classes. I didn't have a project at the time, but have since built a set of wheels. Charles was extremely generous with his time in giving me pointers and inspecting as I went - all while helping walk-in customers, advising his intern, and working through his repair backlog. I also took the bearings and maintenance classes and learned a ton. The class formats are pretty casual, and generally involve doing some supervised project on your bike. You can safely ride your bike out of class, and I've seen Charles stay late numerous times to help with a particularly challenging projects. In one class, he went so far as to machine a vintage Motobecane seat post by hand to fit a particular seat post tolerance. The classes pay for themselves - especially if you have some sort of project in mind. Charles also helped me build a bike from frame and parts last winter - mostly supervising and giving pointers while I did the hands on stuff. Again, Charles was very generous with his time, staying after hours to get me up and running. He's really been a great teacher in addition to running an affordable, high-quality shop. The only thing he had to farm out was the hydo system for my brakes. He sent me over to Davidson to get the cables cut, bled, and hooked up properly. Charles doesn't work on hydro systems, but his friends at other shops do. :) A final note on the co-op membership. If you have any desire to maintain your bike with even basic regular maintenance, the co-op membership is a screaming good deal and really convenient. I have a stand at home and a modest tool set, but I take my ride into the shop for anything more than simple chain lubing and cleaning. His stands are way better than what I have at home, any tool you can think of is hanging on the wall, truing stands all over the place for your wheels, gloves, lubes, and best of all... the bio-diesel cleaning station. When it's time for a deep clean on my chain and cassette, I used to dunk it in degreaser at home and "manage" the leftovers. That was a huge pain in the ass. Never, ever, will I do that again. Any time I tune up, I use Charles' facility and never have to decant dirty degreaser between pans and mason jars again. On top of that, he's got parts on hand for most of what you need and doesn't gouge you. Charles has an intern, Talvin (I'm probably spelling his name wrong, sorry!), who also does fantastic work. Talvin's a great kid, super friendly and helpful. I hope he sticks around after his internship. I'll be a Wright Bros customer as long as I'm riding. read more

My rear wheel spoke broke in July so I took my bike to Wright Bros. Cycle Works at Fremont. Charles, the owner, repaired the broken spoke; repaired another weak spoke; and replaced a spoke which was stainless steel and did not match the other black spokes. He did an excellent repair job! Since then, I've been taking my bike into this shop and am completely satisfied with the work. It's great to take your bike to a place you can really trust! read more

I can't recommend Wright Bros enough! I came in because of some fender rub and it turned out that I needed a couple new spokes. They fixed a few others things too and now my bike rides like new. Their prices are competitive (but remember to bring cash) and I'm much happier with the service I got here than any other bike shop I've gone to in Seattle. read more

Charles is always happy to answer questions, to impart knowledge, and to make sure you leave with a bike that is safe and will keep you happily riding for a long time. You don't need an appointment to get something fixed, just pop in and they're always happy to take a look. Best bike shop in town, and by far the nicest and most helpful staff. I had heard about them from a few people but they never mentioned how awesome they were. The shop has a pretty good selection of stuff, but not the best as they are more focused on repair and building bikes rather than prebuilt. Which brings me to my next point, the co-op. This is what really sets them apart from anywhere else I've been to. For just $30 you can become a member of their co-op and you have access to a full shop with every tool you would need and outstanding help from staff. I cannot speak or recommend Wright Bros cycles highly enough! During what I thought was going to be an epic Sunday ride from West Seattle around Lake Washington on a late eighties Bottechia SLX, I found myself limping along with a loosening bottom bracket. As this was a Sunday, I thought my chances of finding any open bike shops remote. But, to my extreme delight, Wright Bros was open. I explained my problem to Charles who without a moments pause had my bike on the stand and was repairing it. He was thorough and explained in great detail how the bracket had come apart. And, as I sat gawking at his expert work, he even offered a soda, and we had delightful conversation. And, when the work was done, I was surprised at the inexpensive cost of the repairs. He truly saved me a lot of hassle at the moment and for the future. This is a great shop for repairs and wheel builds from my experience, especially if you are a classic bike rider. They also stock high quality tyres, rims, and a lot of fixie gear. Go here, you won't regret it. The ethos is spot on! read more

I came into the shop on a beautiful day with a number of problems that were standing between me and getting home. Several of the issues I hadn't even noticed until he brought them to my attention. Great place to buy spare parts and get some advice while fixing up you bike. I had to replace my cables and housing, and they cut all the housing down to size for me, ground the ends, and lubed it up so I was all set to install everything (which they let me do right in the store on their bike stand). Everything was reasonably priced, especially considering the free-of-charge tips I got while repairing in the shop. And nobody laughed at me for not knowing the right terms for everything on my bike.
