I knew I was in good hands when the person was talking to told me that they're an avid writer and did not recommend the same bike that they used They put a pair of test pedals on a bike that I was looking at and I took it out for about a 1 mile loop. Vertical compliance was good and I ended up getting the bike. I also got a fitting which was absolutely critical. A lot of people end up with pains in their neck and back from a bike that has not been adjusted to their specific style. I am so glad that I did because a lot of my friends opted not to have a fitting and they have paid the price for it. Well that went downhill (no pun intended) fast. I brought my TT bike in because it was acting up and basically, they told me it was done for. Nothing could fix it (not true). They just tried to upsell me a new TT bike! And when I asked them to box the bike to ship to a new store to fix it, they basically quoted me thousands more than the bike because of all the issues. It was a simple dismantle and rebuild. To say they ''man-splain" is an understatement. I am an accomplished athlete, a tremendous cyclist and while I don't know all the ins and outs of a bike, I know when I am being screwed over! Found a new bike store that is happy and friendly and able to fix my bike(s). read more

my back tire on my mountain bike kept going flat (even though i was just riding it on paved trails), and chuck and andy fixed it multiple times, charged me a fraction of the price since it kept happening, and eventually replaced the whole tire for less than $20 to guarantee it would stop popping. they were also very nice, and they work efficiently even when they're busy. will definitely be back here for future maintenance! read more

My husband and I have been discussing purchasing our son a bicycle for a few days, being that we were in the area we randomly wandered into Gregg's Greenlake cycle. We were promptly greeted by a team standing in the front of the store, Evan and Will kindly assisted us. Evan took Jackson's measurements and selected two bicycles appropriate for his height. While Evan walked me through the bicycle safety check process; Will helped Jackson get fitted for helmet. I greatly appreciate both Evan and Will as they provided excellent customer service, and were genuinely courteous during our time there. Overall, excellent shopping experience at Gregg's I couldn't be happier and Jackson left riding out in style. We will definitely return, and highly recommend! read more

Wow, listen up. My partner and I--right--we bought some e-bikes from Gregg's Greenlake Cycle. The staff, they're quick, got us a pair of bikes to test. We rode 'em, fell in love. Decided to buy. A few days later, we're pickin' 'em up. Nice experience, yes, but here's the thing--the staff, internally, not always on the same page. I ordered some accessories, asked if I could come in on a Saturday to install 'em. They said, "Yes." So, I ride to the shop, and guess what? They don't do these installs on Saturdays! I'd have to come back. They said it's better for them to do the install, involves dropping a rear tire. We came back, had the work done. The team, great. But when we came to pick up the bikes, only mine was done. Despite being told both would be done. My partner had to Uber home after we Ubered there. When we finally got both bikes, I inspect the install. The way everything is attached, no need to remove a tire. I can't understand why I paid for that. Feels like it wasn't truthful. Despite this, I'm happy with their work. They need to be better at communicating with customers. I'm a repeat buyer of bikes with this shop, but these things--paper cuts to a long-term relationship. stopped by this bike shop looking to see if they could recommend a trail to go on. The guy at the register literally looks at me and says nothing. Then I look at the map they have on the bulletin board - and notice the "Interurban Trail" - so I ask them if they know anything. The guy mumbles something (didn't hear what he said) then this girl says, "there's an interurban trail in Bellingham". Yay. In other words, terrible customer service, no smiles, or any help. Been shopping here for decades, I've spent *thousands* of dollars as well... came in today and tried to buy a needle nose pliers so I could pull the pin out of my brake calipers from there and install the newly purchased ones. They were out of needlenose calipers and so I asked if I could borrow theirs. They declined to help me and I couldn't believe my ears. I ended up talking to a manager and he said it was moreover a policy or whatever, despite the fact that they didnt have any available to sell and that my current brake pads were . I feel like if the manager had told me to "f**k off," that would have been nicer at that point. Ended up going to the Ace Hardware in U-district and bought a needle nose pliers for 8 bucks. I felt truly embarrassed, spending thousands of dollars over the last 15 years from Gregg's. I will be taking my business to REI and will take every opportunity to defer all business away from Gregg's. Terrible customer service. read more

Amazing and terrific local bike shop in a busy Seattle neighborhood in business for 90 years. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable and helpful, their showroom inside is fantastic with many ranges of cycles to window shop. My favorite was their online registration and pick up process. You go in and place a deposit and registration sign up for the bike you want. The shop calls you when it's available, you can test ride outside and figure out your setup/preferences and decide on the spot if you want to purchase or not. Fortunately, we got 2 bikes which were available in less than a month, which is awesome given the bicycle crisis during pandemic. If you buy a bike over a grand you can get free fitting and tune up. They lost a star because of the long wait time. It takes a bit to get their attention, their printers don't work, systems are very slow adding to the wait time. The staff is courteous and polite, really like this shop and location. read more

I was super excited today, going to by a new bike. Looking at spending over $3k. Knew what I wanted and Gregg's in Greenlake had more than two in stock, one the right size, another one had the right wheel set up. I wanted a 29r rather than a mullet, and it's an EASY swap on this bike. Could I buy it? No. The manager told me it would be too much work, because he'd have to swap the bikes over in his "system" (the shop is almost empty btw). He'd rather I wait over a month while he orders the exact same bike. Even though it's on back order and they don't know when they'll get more. Seriously? A $3-4k sale and swapping a bike in the system is too much work? Ok dude. Other reviewers have mentioned the staff are apathetic and unhelpful. Yup that's my experience too. I'm not shopping there again. Gerks in Issaquah had the same model and we're only too happy to help. read more

Usually most bike places try to help their customers especially the senior citizens. Today I had a very minor issue with my bike - as one of the nice service guys was trying kindly to help me - another one (Ray) a bully - told him not to. This type of behavior is uncalled for. Very poor customer service from the tiny, snotty hipster mechanic. I had been bringing my bike there previously but was informed today that they will only work on ebikes from their own store. I was not asking to have any electric components serviced, it was a simple mechanical issue that could have been resolved in the time it took them to sneer at me and show me the door. They don't deserve your money. *I should also note that they worked on my previous ebike for mechanical issues and simply asked me to take the battery with me for storage/safety purposes.* I guess the new policy is to be rude and dismissive and send you elsewhere. read more

There seems to be a complete disconnect in the Greenlake store. I ordered a Trek road bike months ago and was told it would be there within 2 weeks. Now 3 months (even after trying to call manager about status no return calls) the bike finally shows up. I go down to get bike and purchase pedals. All the clipless pedals will not work with my shoes. Not to worry the sales person said they can order them and they will be there within a week to 2 weeks. The very next day Greggs leaves a message that my pedals were now in stock??!!. I go down again and no these pedals will not work with my shoes. Be it known the persons helping me this time is not the one whom ordered the pedals. The new parts person now tells me those pedals the others parts person said they can order haven't been made in years. Now another different sales person says why don't you just try to order the pedals yourself and take the bike. Total bike snob attitude and the wrong answer which is when I said give me my money down I had on the road bike and put it back on my card. We have bought plenty of bikes from Greggs over the years mostly MTBs and that side of the shop is totally better more customer friendly than the road bike side. Customer service goes a long way with most people and this whole transaction/experience with this road bike has been a complete letdown. read more

We were in the market for E Bikes and came to Gregg's based on the great ratings they get. I would strongly suggest if you are looking for an EBike you do your homework first and test ride many before you decide. Gregg's has a limited number of EBikes to try and their sales people depending upon who you get are limited in their knowledge. We were looking for two bikes and ended getting only one for my husband as the bike I wanted was not available at Gregg's. On the very positive side, they were great when the first bikes we bought, the batteries died on us when we were out and they took them back. They were the Specialized Como's. My husband went back to a bike he is comfortable with and bought the Townie from them. Here is the negative. Every time we were called to pick up bikes, the bikes were never fully ready when we got there. Accessories ordered not put on the bike were the big issues which caused us to have to come back another time. For some reason the people putting the bikes together from the sales order don't fully read the order and there's always something not quite ready. Net net, we like the people at Gregg's but it is not the best store for everyone. If you are buying an EBike we would suggest going to retailers that specialize in EBikes. We have been educated by many of these other stores on why our bike battery cut out and died. We have been instructed on how to prevent that from happening in the future. EBikes from European makers tend to give you more for your money. read more

Every time I get my bike back, there's something wrong with it... from the seat being adjusted for the 6' tall guy who test-rode it to a new derallieur that's installed to be completely dysfunctional. Some of the guys here are really nice, others are arrogant and dismissive. They have the best selection of bikes in Seattle, but as for service, go somewhere else. read more

When a customer is willing to spend $$$ on a bike, drives 2 hours to find a correct fit, common sense tells ya to be friendly and helpful. Not here. Other shops offer free lifetime adjustments, parts & accessories discounts, focused customer service...not here. Today I was so appreciative and thankful to bring my bike in to get a tire fixed and more. They have you wait calmly in line as they carefully work on bikes and answer questions. Social distance. I have been using Gregg's for bike purchases and bike service for the last few years. It has always been a great experience with Gregg's but today was by far the best experience I have had in the last 4-5 years. The great experience is solely due to Wayne in service. I cannot begin to give him enough praise for his help today. My tires went completely flat because I haven't biked since end of biking season last September. When re-inflating, my rear tire completely blew. I brought the bike in to get the tube fixed and was told if you let the tire go flat over months of not riding, it can get misaligned when re-inflating and end up popping because it is misaligned with the rim and tire. The tech fixed the tire and I went on my way. Well today, I went out riding after my rear tire was fixed and within 15 minutes, my front tire blew while on the ride. I brought it back into Gregg's and got Wayne as my service technician and he did such a thorough inspection to really find out what the root cause was. He inspected both tires, even though the rear tire had just been fixed. He ended up replacing the tube in the front tire that had just blown and got my bike back to working condition. Once I finally got home, my partner who also bikes got nervous because he had let all the air out of his tires out over the winter. We inspected his bike and realized his may not be up to par and could face the same situation of the tube blowing mid ride. We took it in 2 hours after Wayne fixed my bike and we got Wayne again. He was so professional and patient and looked at my partner's bike and realized that his also looked like a potential issue of the tube blowing if we go out riding again, and made the necessary repairs. He also was very thorough in explaining what to be cautious of and what to look for before you go biking to make sure your bike is safe before you go riding. Not only was Wayne EXTREMELY friendly, patient, and professional, he went above and beyond to make sure that our bikes were up to par and we would be safe riding out on the roads. My review is exclusively for the service department; I have only briefly interacted with the sales department and those experiences have been okay. I ride my bike frequently, so I find myself needing adjustments and repairs all the time. Overall, the guys in the service department have been very helpful and thorough. They have also done a nice job managing the long lines during the COVID pandemic. While they often have a line, I have never waited an unreasonable amount of time. Wayne, in particular, is wonderful. I was having issues with chain drop. He first adjusted my front derailleur. Unfortunately that didn't solve the problem, so I came back about a week later. Wayne did a more thorough examination of my bike--spending over an hour on my bike--and we eventually decided to install a chain catch. He explained everything he was doing in a way I could easily understand. Thanks to him, the problem was finally solved--no issues 3 weeks later. read more

Some negative comments here are because the prices are too high; bike prices have always been high and the increased demand stemming from the pandemic will not drop the prices any further. If you want the full carbon specialized, you're not going to get it for 500. It just isn't going to happen. Some negative comments are about the confusing and long lines and where exactly to go to get the exact component you need. Again, the pandemic forced limited capacities and awkward queues on a building that wasn't built to handle it. I myself have become outwardly frustrated with their setup but now that I understand it better it's clear that it's the best they can do. The employees on the floor bear the brunt of that inconvenience so please be patient because they've had to deal with idiots like me. The best example of them really caring is that when I took my bike in to replace the shifter cables and housing, the man I spoke to openly admitted that because my bike wasn't from a brand that they sold and because it was an integrated cable frame he couldn't guarantee that he knew exactly how to rewire it in an expedient manner. He suggested a different local shop where he thought they might have more experience with the particular brand. That's a classy and honest move. read more

What a wonderful business! Chuck was so kind, helpful, and focused on making sure I had an easy move across the continent. When I arrived at Gregg's cycles, I had no idea how I was going to ship my bike to Virginia in the next two days! I was only in Seattle for 4 days. Chuck made sure I called other businesses to make sure I got the best bang for my buck and when I decided to just trust Chuck he immediately packaged my bike and sent me updates on the package and the store snow hours. Being 6'8, searching for a 64cm road bike that was within my budget was rather difficult. Day after day of being online of looking at forums and different websites trying to find models that came in a 64cm frame, 3 months later I stumbled upon a post of some friends who bought their boss a 64cm Trek Emonda ALR 5. Needless to say I googled it right away and Gregg's popped up saying they had them in stock and on a closeout price. My wife and I made the hour drive to Gregg's the next day. I usually prefer highly charismatic, outgoing, and expressive sales associates, but man...did my mind change! I had an associate named Ray help me, unsure of his last name, but he had worked at the store for 3 and a half months and he helped me like a seasoned champ. Although he was quiet and a little timid, he was a no-nonsense kind of guy. Any questions I had he answered clearly and directly. He did not up sell me on anything, which I had experienced at a different shop. Making a bigger purchase, you want to feel confident in what you purchased, and Ray fostered that kind of experience for my wife and I. I was out the door for under $1500. We are planning on heading back on Saturday and purchasing a Specialized Crosstrail for my wife, and will plan on continuing going back to Gregg's for any bike needs we may have. read more

I just had the most incredible experience at this shop. I'm moving across the country and needed a cardboard box to ship my bike in, so I called and they let me know I could come through and grab one that they had lying around. As soon as I walked in Michael greeted me and knew what I was asking about. He took a look at the specs on my bike and ran to the back to find what I needed. Not only did he come back with the perfect box, but he then spent 20 minutes showing me how to pack up my bike. He knew I wasn't there to purchase anything, and still spent his time and energy helping me get it figured out. On top of all of that, he GAVE me a wrench they get with the bikes so the process of packing the bike up went smoothly. The shop also maintained social distance and everyone was in masks. Absolutely stellar customer service and experience. 10/10. Extra points to Michael for being so warm and helpful. read more

I stopped in wanting to get a larger chain and adjust the derailleur for a ghost kato bike on which I had just installed a larger chainring. The first person helping me became frustrated with the derailleur; a second attendant stepped in to help. There was a problem somewhere in the gear shift cable. Instead of fixing it, the attendant told me to buy a gear shift cable and troubleshoot myself. He left the gear shift cable unthreaded from the derailleur (and subsequently the crimping screw that held it there fell off while at the store or shortly thereafter and was never recovered) and sent me home. After 15 minutes of inspection I found that the gear shift cable had become pinched near the bottom bracket and was able to fix it, rethread through the derailleur (and salvage a new crimp screw) and set the derailleur limits myself after watching a 5 minute youtube video. Overall this was a negative experience, and my second time visiting Gregg's after 5 years of living at Greenlake. It felt like walking into the bike version of a super-snooty-barista-laden Seattle coffee shop;-p read more
