Wright's Automotive Service came to my attention re a recommendation. family Benz failed nearby. didn't want to deal with Benz dealer in Oakland. particulars not noteworthy as each vehicle has it's pecularities. in short, water pump/ alternater fan belt failed. labor charges seem high, parts low. no doubt Benz costs probably higher. Wright is AAA approved. got 7.5%ish discount when they discovered i had AAA coverage. 24 months warranty. car went in monday noon. came out tuesday 3. very quick service! difficult to say whether i would repeat. lst Benz car failure in over 10+ years..,,,would definitely consider it.... read more

Took 8 hours to tell me the problem I already told them what was wrong with my car. Then give me an outrageous estimate. Went to the dealers and it was done in 1.5 hours for a sliver of their estimate. The amount I paid for the "work and testing" they did was the almost the same price I paid the dealers to actually fix my car. Save yourself a trip and to go to dealer because their computers will tell you exactly what's wrong with the car without "additional" tests. Plus they do not have additional parking to park your car there to go inside. And I felt like they were super rude. Though the service here is friendly and the inspection is cool, because they send you a neat text with the superficial assessment, they are SUPER expensive and didn't solve my problem. My car died in the middle of the road (at a stop) and was towed here. They told me it was my battery, which didn't really make sense to me, but they're the experts. They replaced the battery along with the windshield wipers. With all their service fees this cost over $400. Then exactly a week later I had the same problem, when I called they refused to acknowledge that it was the same problem and said it was something unrelated. I took my car to a previous auto shop and they couldn't figure out the problem with my car. (My Jetta wasn't reversing). My dad recommended that I come here, and so I did. They were able to figure out the problem in a couple of hours. I can't believe how detailed this autoplace is. They sent me an email with a complete diagnosis of my car from the tires, to the brakes, to the wipers. Loved it. Unfortunately after this visit, my car and I did have to take our separate ways. But it was with the help of Wright's Automotive that helped me figure out the problem with my car. One thing that I did appreciate was that the owner did drop me off at my house, and picked me up after it was serviced. read more

I brought my car in for air conditioning service. I called on a Thursday and got Tiffany at the front desk and she made an appointment for me for the next day. She was very professional and went over the service and the pricing for air-conditioning. So I brought my car in the next day and met with Victor Who again explain the services in detail. Two hours later I received an email that my car was finished. The problem was a little plug that was worn out. Instead of taking advantage of me they were very honest and fixed what needed to be done. The shop was clean, the workers were exceptional and I will be returning with any car repairs needed. I am updating my review due to the response from the business. The business indicated "I checked on a dealer price, and what I found was considerably more than what you mentioned." I am attaching an image of a quote that came directly from Kia. I also asked Kia if there was another more expensive starter than what is on the invoice and was told "no." So while my review was off by $24.00 that is very far from "considerably more". What IS "considerably more" is the $547.52 that Wright's charged for the starter and we don't know if it was a factory starter or an even less expensive aftermarket starter(both being egregious markups), as it is not reflected in their invoice. All I can say is wow... There is a difference between a shop being expensive for the sake of quality and then there's being overly expensive for the sake of a rip off. I've been at jobs and have friends at jobs that play the rip off game so I know how it's played. This is lengthy, but a lot went wrong so at least read some of this to save yourself from a crooked business. I came in for the first time after receiving a flyer in the mail some months back and I saw that the shop has a 5 star rating on Yelp (although if I would've combed through and read the 1 star reviews I would've avoided going.) I needed an oil change, a complete inspection and to have my A/C checked out. First thing that they did that is clearly wrong was they did the jobs WITHOUT quoting me a price first! Even Big O Tires has a policy in place to do this! I guess it's partially my fault for not asking but I'm not used to having to ask and I should've have to. But I can see why they didn't communicate the cost and you will too. The second thing that was clearly wrong is the cost of my transmission flush: $497.84! When I heard this, I pointed out that a quick internet search said that a flush could be up to $250. This was double. The man helping me, Victor, blinked a lot (which is something liars do) as he went into his wordy explanations. He said there is a difference between a change and a flush. I said, I know the difference and I looked up FLUSH costs. He then said the cost was so high due to the transmission fluid being $300 because it's a special for Toyotas. Well, I called a Toyota parts department and asked the price for transmission fluid for a 2009 Corolla for a guy off the street. He said $10.49 per quart. Transmission flushes can take up to 16 quarts to complete so after doing the math plus tax, the price is nowhere NEAR $300 and this is calculating the worst case scenario. The dealership would've done my flush for $238 total! I kept complaining about the price and nothing was being done until I said, "isn't there anything you can do?" He gave me a hundred dollars off and acted like it was a hush-hush good deal. C'mon man, do I really look that stupid? Next is the extremely questionable scenario involving my A/C. First of all, they charged $180 just to see what was wrong (well kind of found what was wrong, more on that later). For a cost comparison, I called Auto Doctor, another local mechanic on the pricey end with a good reputation. They quoted me $130, $50 less! Anyways, they did the diagnosis and said that someone has added a quick fix kit and the whole A/C system was compromised. He said it would cost $4,000 something to replace! The only problem is I'd only taken it to the dealership and never had A/C problems before. I called the dealership and there was no record of A/C repairs so it was darn near impossible that quick fix has been added. Once I said there was no way I'd ever pay $4000 for a new A/C, he started backtracking on the price. He said, "that's worse case scenario and once we open it up, we may see that we don't need to replace everything." Open it up? Isn't that what I paid $180 for?? Finally, I said "since I can't afford a $4000 job, I guess I'll have to resort to a quick fix kit. Can you recommend one?" Victor said he would ask his mechanic the next day and call me. He said I was "first on the list." Can you guess what happens next? Yup, he NEVER CALLED. Maybe the fact that I came in wearing my work clothes (polo and khakis) made them think I was some hot shot business man or tech worker with money to blow and no time to do research, but they were sadly mistaken. Never have I felt so taken advantage of by a business in my life! PS (update): the comment below still doesn't address the fact the they didn't quote me first before doing the job and also that they charged $300 for fluid when the dealership was willing to sell it to me for almost half the price read more

Our window motor burnt out... again. Took it in, ready to pay for it... turns out it had been done 11.5 months ago and therefore was under their warranty. I'd forgotten, but Wright's didn't. They fixed it for free. Yes, their labor is a leeeetle more expensive than other, cheaper places. But my peace of mind is worth more, and I have confidence in their honor and honesty. read more

Yes Victor gets 5 stars I am clueless when it comes to cars and anything about cars I had to get a brake and light inspection in order to get my car registered with DMV I had no idea what that meant I was so impressed with his explanation of what it entailed and in no way did he ever make me feel pressure that I had to get anything fixed at his place they did the inspection gave me a list of all the repairs that needed to get done in order to pass called my father in law because he is the best family mechanic he fixed the brakes took it back to Wrights for the final inspection which we passed and now we have our car registered YAYYYYY Yes I will recommend this place to everyone read more

Pretty much love the customer service already, what a lovely surprise! I found this spot a mile from my house... I usually smog my car out at a spot out in Oakland, but I didn't feel like going out to Oakland today, so trusty Yelp showed me this place. As soon as I pulled in the technician working was friendly and welcoming. As a female coming in for auto work, car service places sometimes give off really shady vibes. This place did not. I walk into the small office, and it was clean and simple with small refreshments. The front desk receptionists had exceptional customer service and phone manners, and they were knowledgeable in sharing information with me when I had questions. The smog took about 30 min, and I paid $67 in cash. At checkout, I received a full color photo copy of my inspection report along with recommendations for vehicle maintenance. The whole process was friendly, very comfortable, and every person I came in contact with was professional. I would 100% recommend Wright's Automotive!!! Thank you so much! read more

Great service from David. Communicated very well to inform me of what my car needed and how much it was going to cost. The staff is very knowledgeable and left me feeling like I wasn't getting cheated. Car needed breaks, when taken to the dealer was told it needed front and back and they quoted over 2k for brakes and routers. After taking it here was told I just needed rear breaks and routers and that the front still had 50% left! Audi dealer in Livermore are crooks, they'll try to get you if your car is no longer under warranty or needs something that isn't covered. Never going back! I took my 2010 Honda Civic Coupe to Wright's this morning based on a recommendation that they gave a couple of months ago when I took my vehicle in to them for a smog. They said that my brake fluid, transmission fluid, and power steering needed to replaced. At the time they quoted me about $300 for those three things. I took my vehicle in today and told them that in addition to the things that they had quoted me for before I also needed an oil change. I expected to pay maybe $400 out the door. I was quoted $780 for that work. I have yet to figure out how an oil change tacked on an extra $500 to the original quote. I went to another shop and was told the only thing my vehicle actually needed was an oil change. I will not be returning to Wright's, they seem to be honest and friendly, but looks can be deceiving. read more

I highly recommend this place. It is green certified, locally owned and operated, and they stand behind their quality and fair-priced work. They had a special running on an oil change and scheduled maintenance package so the price was great. They gave me a ride back to my office while they worked on it. Very nice and trustworthy people. When a question came up about a part of the oilpan they repaired it at no cost even though it wasn't clear whether they had been responsible or not. Most places I know would have blamed the other place and not fixed it or tried to charge but they didn't. They also discovered that my old mechanic had been putting the wrong oil in my car! I took my car into Wrights auto shop to have a new belt tensioner replaces on my car. They quoted me $400 for the part alone. Not only did they attempt to charge me that price for the part, but also recommended belt changes on belts that had just recently been replaced less than 10k miles ago...and one I told them this they said it was a good thing I knew that because "sometimes it's hard to see those things"....huh? If you can't make a clear diagnosis your go to method is to replace it huh? Got it. So after I paid $190 for an oil change I decided to take my car down the road to a different auto shop...where they supplied the part and installed it for $370....yes! $370. So how is it that parts plus labor at a shop down the road is $30 less than what wrights wanted to charge me for just the part. Basically the end quote for the repairs plus labor they estimated at $925 out the door...when I took it down the street and got it taken care of for $370 out the door. Just a little perspective for any future clients of these guys. Not cool to be taking advantage of mechanically ignorant people...especially during a pandemic where everyone is broke. read more

My car had a collision on Hwy 880 near San leandro on way to tahoe. It was towed to Wright's automotive. They quickly inspected damage on my car. Explained to me every detail about the damage, drawing the damaged part on a sheet of paper. Answered all my questions patiently and gave us written estimate of the repair cost. They helped me get a Hertz rental and I was back on road in less than 2 hours. Everything about their conduct was professional and cost very reasonable. I would recommend this place. I do most of my own work on my own vehicles - I own 8 classic cars and do full restorations, so I know my way around car repair. I occasionally need something done on my modern car that I don't have time to do or don't want to do. I asked three local parts houses who they thought was well sorted, local, and running their business well, and all three mentioned Wright's. I went there and noted that the shop is clean and organized, and everyone seemed positive and business-like. I also noted that they don't seem to leave cars outside overnight, which means that they're managing their workflow well. I have been going to them for the last 10 years on occasion, and have gotten clear communication on estimates, schedule, and what to expect. They check the vehicle out and look for other work that needs doing, which is not a crime - they are in the REPAIR business and I want to know about problems before they're critical, so I don't understand why some people complain about being offered other services that they didn't ask for. Front desk/estimator/owner seems very competent, polite, and does what he says he will do, which is what I'm in the market for. Enough that I got our company's (small) fleet account assigned to these guys. Go by in person. Get a feel for what they're up to. I bet you will agree with me that they're the sort of place that's worth knowing about. read more

I found Wright't to be convenient, friendly, efficient, and inexpensive. I have nothing critical at all to say about them. My car is three years old and had always brought it to a dealership to have maintenance done, but I decided to compare prices when approaching my 30k mile major maintenance. Bottom line, various dealerships quoted me $500+, whereas Wright's quoted me a little over $300. Done deal. The staff introduced themselves and were very friendly, and although they don't seem to have a shuttle car/van, I live close by, so they drove me home and picked me up in my own car. Give them a try. They've been around for a while, and it doesn't look like they're going anywhere. read more

This is my second time taking my car in I love the fact I was able to drop it off after work and get my car back in a timely manner. Although I feel my car is on its way to the junkyard soon and I cannot afford a another car at this time their quality of work makes me feel very secure/safe on the road and their prices are very reasonable I also feel they're very honest and extremely reliable. They've always been honest and upfront about costs and recommending the best options, even if they don't make the most money from it. I had an old car that needed repairs, and the repairs cost more than the car was worth. I never felt any pressure to go for it, which I didn't. In fact, they recommended I didn't, because it made no economic sense to me. Apart from that tale, they've always been straightforward about what it is that they're doing, and they have always been friendly and professional about it. They are the opposite of the stereotypical sleazy auto mechanic types. All and all, I emphatically recommend this business. read more

I am editing though to say that as soon (within minutes) I posted this, the owner reached out to me apologizing with all sincerity and offered me a full refund. I'd say that it pretty generous and I will gladly accept it and move on. John is clearly a stand up guy and like I said in my review the service writer was nice, the mechanic was nice - my job just didn't make the cut that time. Maybe a fluke, but I do know, that I did have the problem fixed elsewhere, but John really came through offering me a refund in full, which I will pick up this week. Beware. They'll charge you dealer prices plus sneak in diagnostic fees. Went in on Friday to schedule a diagnostic. Person at the front desk tells me all I need to know but leaves out the fact they charge $200 for each problem you want them to look at. Took my car in Monday morning to drop off and different person assisted me but again didn't say anything about a diagnostic fee. I found out only when he told me to sign and that's when I saw the total diagnostic fee of $400. If I want to get ripped off I might as well take it to the dealer. What can I say... other than very disappointing to go years of being a good customer and speaking highly of them. To having my wife take her car in for a brake & lamp inspection, after Victor quoted both of us the same price twice. To show up and be quoted twice the amount of the original quote. Keep in mind my wife has a disability and walked home a few blocks away in the rain. What kind of honest quality business would do that to a woman... Never again Wright's Automotive & Victor, shame on you John and Victor. After everything was said and done, you try to make an excuse of a labor increase and then you offer to honor your original quote, but too little to late. What kind of labor increases by 200% for the same exact work... The estimate went from $100 each brake and lamp inspection, and $99.99 for a smog that I had just gotten a week prior for $59.99. So we were looking at $300 initially, then she shows up and the estimate is $481!!! Blah, Blah, Blah, one excuse after another for the price increase. Took it to Pro Smog in San Leandro, came out of there for $110 for both brake & lamp, $50 plus $8.25 for smog!!! That is what it should cost!!! I called Wright's Automotive when I heard a metal sound on my vehicle. I thought it might be my brakes, but not sure. I spoke to Victor and he was able to get me in to check out my vehicle within a day. I dropped off my vehicle and received a telephone call within a few hours letting me know I needed front brakes. They were able to have parts delivered that day and do the repair. Victor and his staff are very professional - yet friendly...
