I've went to Lim and his son a total of 3x, in a span of 3 years. I've had my share in disappointment in a lot of mechanics. Lim and his son gave me pretty decent prices. My wife and I went here this morning. 11 days of frustration finally came to an end (my wife's Corolla would have failed a smog test earlier because it hadn't been driven enough). Mr. Lim (his first name is Hour) was friendly and quick. The smog check only took 15 minutes (there's a Starbucks a block away, and we were only there for about 5 minutes). My wife was only charged $60 (Smog Inspection: $51.75; Smog Certificate: $8.25). The hours are solid: Mon-Sat 8 a.m.-6 p.m. A geek suddenly drove in (I rolled my eyes when he sat by me at Starbucks). I was worried that we would be stalled because of him, but Mr. Lim made my wife the priority. The car shop is messy (only the little shrine in the back looks neat). My wife and I also didn't like when Mr. Lim was on his phone (it was just awkward when it was time to pay). I have to mention Pacific Lee Auto (it's right across from Lim Express Tune & Brakes). Mike brought us to Mr. Lim after checking the car to see if it would pass a smog test. He also checked the oil for free. I have to thank Andrew from Union City Smog Check too. He was more than helpful and patient when my wife kept trying to get her car smogged there (we both feel bad that he didn't get our business). With a few exceptions, reviewers have had positive experiences when going here for repairs. Be careful while driving in. The area is very congested (at least 4 auto body shops are in the small area). Came in for a smog check. Lim is a nice old man near retirement. Price was reasonable at around 60 dollars. Time it took for the whole process was fast and, if he isnt retiring soon, ill be back in two years for another smog. read more

Today, I must say I'm very happy because a couple days ago my car was having some problem, oil leaking to be exactly honest. I would be driving and its only a short distance and there would be smoke coming out from the hood and engine area. But today I must say that I am very happy with the results of bringing my car to Lim Express Tune & Brakes. About two weeks ago I was driving to my doctor office to my cardiology appointment and I noticed that there was a slight smoke that was coming out from my engine area I decided to park my car and restart my engine to see if it's still continue and it did so I was a little bit scared decided to stop by a Valero gas station and asked for someone to help me out with my car. I was aiming for someone that looks like they know some knowledge about cars and know what to do if there is some problem with the car. So that's when I bump into Mr. Lim. Without hesitation he immediately help me out with my car and told me that there is an oil leak somewhere and for me to take my car to his shop in Hayward so he can take a look at my car for me so he gave me his business card that day. Yesterday I decided to go to the shop after I got off from work at 12pm when I got there he was on his lunch break I waited and then he return and immediately he took a look at the car, after diagnosing the car he found out that the oil adapter was defective and need to be replaced in order for the oil to stop leaking from underneath the car. I didn't waited too long to have my car fixed and like other yelp indicated the shop is very convenience it's close by to a couple of restaurants Target, Starbucks, LL Hawaiian if you don't want to wait there at the shop you can simply walk about maybe 5-10 minutes and you can get to Starbucks to have some coffee or if you're hungry you can have LL Hawaiian food. Actually I was very hungry and I told Mr. Lim I will be back I'm going to go ahead and have a slight dinner and then we can go from there shortly after I had my dinner I walked back to the shop and the job was done the oil adapter was replace he told me that he wanted to run my car for about 45 minutes just to make sure everything is fine before he complete the job, so I agree and waited. After 45 minutes gone by he did a test drive on my car for a good quick 15 minutes and he told me that everything is fine. On my way home from Hayward to Fremont there was no sign of smoke from the engine area and there's no sign of burning oil as well. I want to take this moment to thank you Mr. Lim for putting in his 100% hard work and effort and time into my car and making sure that taking care of my car was taking care of his own car. When I moved from San Francisco to the East Bay one of my biggest concerns was finding a reputable and honest mechanic. Boy did I score with Lim Express Tune & Lube. I've taken my car there for repairs about 4 or 5 times for various issues over the past 3 years. Lim has been extremely helpful and spoke to me in a manner that I can understand (I'm not a car person). His estimates were very competitive and his work is 2nd to none. My review is for smog check. If there's a no star option, I'll definitely pick it. We took my car here Sat. morning for smog check. No one told me that the smog check guy was not there. We waited until 3pm and call, smog check had not done yet since the guy had not come back. Okay then we went to pick up the car and told someone there that I'll be there at 5:30pm on Monday, he said he will tell the guy. I came back today (Monday), arrived at 5:26pm, and was told the guy was not there again. Someone there told me he probably forgot and just left. He was trying to contact him but no one pick up the phone! The business hour is up till 6pm and I have no idea why there's always no one available to perform the service. Total rip worked on air condition 3 separate times until ripped hole in one of the hoses then told me the new unit I paid them to install works fine need to fix hose and recharge system their price for a new hose and charge was another 800$ found another shop paid 200 for hose and recharge then 500$ for a new unit that works same I had Lima install works great now still haven't got a penny back from these scamers read more

This man is dishonest. States he does repairs and refuses to return old parts as proof. He also sold a vehicle to my mother under false pretenses. This is such a devastating situation because our family has been utilizing this mechanic for 10+ years. We had no idea that we were receiving dishonest service until he screwed my mother over with a sale of a bad car. We then started utilizing another mechanic. We now see the difference of honest, quality service from scam service. He charged us ridiculously high prices without doing a good job. We would have to go back to him several times for the same problem. Each time he would take our money without fixing the problems. We have resulted to filing charges against this man. I have been bring my cars to them since they were at the Mobile gas station (now 76). They have been in business for over 25 years and never once have I ever heard anything bad about them. They go out of their way to get your car fixed. Had my car towed to them because of a bad starter, they quoted me a price and I agreed. Once the car was done they called, I picked up the car and I was out of there. Plain and simple. As I look at the review before mine something doesn't look right. Looks like she paid to have work done or something, then was quoted for some other problem so she took her car to another shop paid another $200 and $500 for a "unit". Having a very hard time understanding what she is trying to say. Please people learn how to make complete sentences. read more

I used to be a regular customer at Firestone and occasionally Oil Changers, but every time I went in for routine maintenance they would print out a list of recommendations to get done ASAP. So naturally I believed them, thus the cycle began. I would go in for an oil change and end up spending $500 plus bucks on a list of things they claimed were wrong....this went on for YEARS! Finally I decided to ask around for a recommendation. I was directed to Lim Express! I have never had the urge to review a car repair shop, but this one is well deserved. It's a hidden gem and well worth your time. I used to have a FORD and once I started bringing that car there the bulk of my recommendations seemed to vanish. I would question my brakes since I was always told to change them and instead of being told to change them ASAP I was told how much they have worn down and exactly how much longer I could use them until I should consider swapping them out. That is one of many experiences with these guys. Prices are fair, time to fix has always been reasonable, and overall they are very transparent. I have been bringing my cars here for YEARS and their mechanic is the best! I have never had any issues here and everything is resolved the first time unlike other shops. I used to get ripped off by Firestone and random gas stations all the time. But once I found Lim express I never went back to the other stations.
