A server we had in Dublin recommended that we visit Howth while in Ireland and we were glad we did! A very cute fishing coast town, we stopped at wrights for lunch. It was a nice day so we day outside. We ordered oysters, fries, and a sandwich with some Guinness. My oysters weren't bad (I had better ones on the west coast of Ireland) and the rest of the food was pretty standard. The restaurant itself is neat inside and our server was good. There is a large parking lot nearby if you are struggling to park. We would return here if visiting again! read more

It's more of a restaurant than a bar BUT the bar is super comfortable with nice chairs and the bartender was pretty cool so we quietly had a couple and then went on our way. Came here with a mate for his birthday. Could've been a better experience. For starters, the food was below average quality and taste. Got the famous Wrights Fish and Chips for just under €20. I only got a small bowl of short chips, and one piece of fish. The fish was grainy and tasted metallic, the breading was flavorless too. The only thing that made flavor was the tartar sauce, which came in a small bowl and not enough for the chips and fish. Not worth the price. There are cheaper things on the menu, but not much cheaper. Prepare to pay a lot. The service was alright, the server was a bit rude and short with us while we were ordering. Dishes came quickly but again short. Wasn't left satisfied. The ambiance was that of a casual bar/restaurant. Warm and cozy, pleasant atmosphere. Very nice experience to sit in. Came here to wait for Octopussy seafood down the street. Great bar friendly service. The place was packed they made room for us the bar. Got to watch the bartenders techniques. All the guys around here know the Guinness pour. They are pros, every time. Got to hang out and watch them work together and raze each other. Got to meet the manager and gave us a $5eur off drink. The absolute best Irish Coffee I've had anywhere. Ended up coming back here after dinner to let the rain stop. I wish the guys here the best Irish . Food was over priced for what it was and what you receive portion wise. Don't bother with the cottage pie, you wait 30 mins for a cup of mostly mashed potato. Extremely poor customer service. We were sat and left and when a waitress did come over she brought the wrong beer twice when we ordered non-alcoholic so my husband who doesn't drink started drinking an alcohol drink because it was the second beer they brought that was supposed to be correct. They were long since finished with their meals before we were served. Four of us ordered Fish and Chips. Fish tasted like it was frozen. Chips were served soggy. On our short visit to Howth we choose a "real restaurant" do have a dinner. This was a really good decision. Food gas outstanding, service friendly and fast ( compared to other places in Ireland, it's slow every where, nobody rushing) it was easy to get food to be made without any dairy in it. And what I like about any restaurant in Ireland nobody looks at u weird if u asking to modify ur food. And almost every menu marked allergies on every dish. Portions doesn't look big but they a filling. I had fish and my husband had steak both dishes were very delicious and nicely garnished. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Howth has been my second home for nigh on five years now and I'm very surprised to see Findlaters hasn't yet been reviewed. Owned by the nightlife tycoon Michael Wright (of Wright Venue fame) this pub caters to all and sundry. The main ground level bar is always a mish mash of Generations X, Y and beyond while the Skyy bar* on the second floor is what you would call the "trendy" bit. In between lies a restaurant which I have yet to try but which I'm led to believe is the goodness. All in all a decent spot with an eclectic mix of music and clientele. Not really a young persons spot as the minimum age for entry is over 21s only. *Yeah, two 'Y's means its cool. read more

While visiting Howth on our Ireland tour, my wife and I stopped in here for lunch. A very nice place with a good view of the "harbor happenings". I had the salmon entree and my wife had the smoked salmon sandwich. Both very tasty and enjoyable. The service was good and waitstaff was friendly and welcoming. read more

Been here before and had a lovely time. Most of our meal was lovely, but one, large ceaser salad with Chicken, should be straight forward. Asked for dressing to be separate, it wasn't, but expected it to at least be freshly cooked chicken. This was on par with the pre cooked chicken you'd get in a super market, I couldn't cut it never mind chew it. We did tell the waiter who told the chef. Then found it still on the bill with no apology or comment from anyone. We shouldn't have been charged for the full meal, or at least not for the chicken as it was inedible. Paying over 100 euro on a family meal and only being able to eat a few chips and salad leaves is not my idea of good value. read more

My girlfriend and I decided to go to the Findlaters restaurant from seeing a city deal for a lobster dinner for two. We bought this not expecting it to be amazing but to our disappointment, it's even worst than we could imagine. Both lobsters were at near gone-off state and was not appetising at all. The claws when opened had just watery mush inside it was actually disgusting. We're not sure if this is to do with being a city deal holder or not but it's ridiculous to even serve such food The waitress were all friendly though, the state of the food was not their fault. Unfortunately I would not come back to this restaurant - the city deal was suppose to use to promote the place but this has backfired by serving potential long term customers such poor quality food. read more

We got a City deal for Findlaters; two mains with sides and two glasses of wine up to the amount of €74. So we were really looking forward to a nice day out in Howth. Findlaters is easy enough to find; on the main st of Howth, quite a large building. We entered a beautiful ground floor bar/eating area and I was a little disappointed when we were told we had to go to the restaurant section upstairs for the city deal meal. The upstairs restaurant section was nice also, a real coast/harbour town feel and look to it. I noticed little lanterns on the staircase on the way up (there is also a lift!) which I thought would be really lovely looking lit up at nighttime. The staff of the restaurant were all in casual clothes and denim which added to the feel of a harbour/good fish restaurant. We both ordered the same meal, the surf and turf, one with string beans and carrots, the other with mushrooms and onions. We had two glasses of white, I think it was chardonnay, which while not rocking the world, was pleasant. The service was lovely, our waitress was friendly and pleasant. Our meal however was a little disappointing; a rump steak with 5 prawns over it, some pepper sauce which was nice and the sides were good. I had only eaten a bagel all day and was looking forward to a hearty meal. The steak was ok; nothing wonderful and the size of the shrimp was disappointing. I was left hungry. We did get tea/coffee and desserts. I got a apple crumble with ice-cream which was nice but the crumble came in a jam jar which was difficult to get it out and mix with the ice-cream. I have to say I did feel a little bit of "put the city deal people in the corner" which I didn't appreciate and I would hope the portions would be bigger if you paid full price. Even still, the point of the city deal or any deals restaurants offer is surely not to show off how good your restaurant is so you will come back and bring others?? read more

The 'Sin Bin' is to the left of the bar. This place was very busy as it was the Dublin Bay Prawn festival and we we lucky to get a seat before they stopped serving food at 6pm??? The staff were quick and pleasant. The mussels were great and the sauce even better. There was even a small glass of prawns on the table to celebrate the festival I would guess. 2 portions of mussels and one skinny chips 17.95 which I thought reasonable value. It was busy with children, noise of people and a large TV over the bar showing some sort of football match. Upstairs there was a nice restaurant but we decided to eat downstairs as we were flowing from started to main course and had every intention of dessert elsewhere. A great place to have a couple of drinks but as a lunch experience it was not a great experience. The food was okay but the service was terrible. The waiter was more interested in being an entertainer than a waiter. My drink was empty before I got my entree and only after I went to the bar to get another round of drinks did we get more. I had nothing the whole time I ate my entree. Honestly the bar lost another 2 rounds worth of income for a table of 5. More insulting was a 10% service charge on the check when 0% was warranted. I have been twice - once for new years so it was really busy and quite fun with a nice roof patio area with mostly good music. However it really impressed me as I went back there recently for dinner. My girlfriend and I were weary from our hike up the Howth loop path and sought to find a place to have an early dinner before returning to Dublin. We ordered our food first but we expected our server to be back soon for drink orders. She told us to check what was on tap and that she would be back to take our drink orders. She did not check on us for the rest of the meal until we finally were able to flag her down while she was cleaning all the other tables to bring us more water and the check. We had no water for 20+ mins. Service, or the lack thereof, should not be expected at this restaurant. The food was decent which is why this review is at 2 stars and not 1. We ordered the catch of the day, the sirloin and the seafood chowder. The chowder was my favorite out of the three. The steak was ordered med rare but came to the table med well. Had lunch with my husband and our three children on Saturday. The food was excellent, homemade chicken nuggets were enjoyed by all with pasta or mash, chips were also available but my lot were steered clear! Drinks came with their meal for 5.95. We had a selection of starters one better than the last fish cake with fresh salsa mussels and chicken wings all excellent the blue cheese dip was the only thing which was poor it was more like a bottle of dressing. Gorgeous food and beautifully presented, I given dipped into the kids chicken wings and desserts ! I had the squid rings to start and they were everything squid rings should be and more, soft in the middle and with light crisp coating resting on a pomodoro sauce with a pesto drizzle, for my main I chose the mussels cooked in a white, cream and basil sauce they were simply devine, the mussels are served with home style wheaten bread and butter so you can soak up all the lovely sauce, my friend ordered the fish cake to start and the seafood risotto for her main, I couldn't fault either, presentation, taste and a generous size serve, I'm am definitely having the fish cake on my return. Our other friend had the hake with prawns on a bed of smooth mash potato with a cream, wine and chive sauce, I took photos to post to show how it speaks for itself, but I can't seem to post them however it was delicious you will just have to take my word for it .... Now for the desserts the steaming apple crumble was light and very moreish but my spoon was pushed away by the kids it came with a vanilla bean ice cream, the chocolate torte was divinely decadents as was the chocolate ice cream, smooth, creamy and dark ..... I also loved the chips and the chicken wings Oohhhh la la, so great food, service and very well priced what more could one ask for .....I know home delivery as I would never cook again! read more
