Usually its 3 strikes and you are out but we will give the Wrought Iron Grill another chance. 1- My shrimp was so over cooked I couldn't eat it. 2- I ask a waitstaff for more bread and never received it. 3- The Owner/Manager was going to adjust our bill because of the shrimp and didn't. Very clean, very friendly, love the atmosphere and other than tough shrimp the plate was still good. I will definitely go back and give them another chance. read more

After hearing wonderful things about this place we decided to give it a try last evening. 5 of us had dinner here and we were split with our opinions regarding the quality of the food received. We tried many different items including the AHI Tuna Sandwich, a couple of different steaks, Stuffed Whitefish,and Seafood Risotto. The steak eaters thought that the steaks were just okay, my wife loved her Risotto selection. I thought the white fish was extremely tasteless and the rice received with it was not warm or tasty either. Veggies were cooked perfectly and were the best part of the entree. I really enjoyed my side salad which featured great house dressing and fresh ingredients. This surely was the best part of my meal! The lobster bisque was non traditional and not very flavorful but my wife loved her Butternut Squash Bisque. Bread was tasty but the butter was hard making it very difficult to spread. My daughter celebrated her birthday with us and was delighted to receive her free dessert which was a brownie covered with hot fudge, ice cream and whipped cream. Overall I was disappointed but would have to say that I would be up to having lunch here sometime and just enjoying a salad. Hope this helps. read more

Grilled chicken, shrimp, Andouille sausage, peppers, and onions on a hand rolled flat bread crust with creole sauce and cheddar jack cheese. WOW! New York strip (gf) $23.99. The king of steaks, char-grilled to perfection. Served with baked potato, Chef's vegetable and veal demi-glace.. MELT IN YOUR MOUTH apple cider brined pork chop (gf)(m) $17.99. Boneless Devries pork loin grilled and topped with clove apple chutney and crispy pancetta. Served with whipped potatoes and grilled asparagus. UNBELIEVABLE Ended the meal with Bread Pudding. GREAT! A decent beer selection, but would have appreciated more stout or porter choices. Now the down side. Our server Amanda was terrible. Inattentive, slow and just not friendly. We waited and waited for almost everything. Bread was brought at the END of the meal. Never an offer to refill our coffee. So I am torn about returning, food verse service. Hmmmmmm. First and foremost, I am glad a respectable restaurant has finally come to Owosso. Not to say that the other restaurants in town are terrible or anything like that, but they're more comparable to Leo's or National than anything else I can think of on the fly. That being said, I really did like the WIG and would definitely return any time I am back home in Owosso. Excellent service, great variety in the menu (but a variety that actually makes sense, which is saying something), and totally reasonable prices. Where else in Owosso (or, for that matter, within a forty minute drive) are you going to find salads made with mixed greens, or a duck and wild mushroom pizza? Also, kudos for the variety and availability of beers. It's tough to find Michigan craft beers outside of the larger cities, but the WIG has a good selection. Definitely a must for those passing through (or residing in) historic Owosso. read more

My last impression was that this place has lost it's way. The meal started with a bland mediterranean sampler platter and having to nag the server for bread (to get around the super stale pitas that the platter came with). I got a pasta dish for my entree which tasted like bread crumbs due to the amount dumped on it, and the "creme brulee" was a sad joke compared to their previous superior efforts and it consisted of nasty vanilla pudding with burned table sugar on top of it. I complained to the waitress who basically said "bad luck there!" and didn't offer to take the nastiness back, let alone take it off the bill. In short, everything was a low watt representation of what it actually purported to be, but yes, the prices are the same. If I want dive bar food and dive bar service I can at least pay dive bar prices, elsewhere. read more

My wife and I took a ride up to Owosso and stopped here for lunch. We were given a dinner menu and the entrees off of this were pretty pricey. We then were given the brunch menu whose selections were pretty sparse. We finally decided on one of their flat bread specials (think lightly crusted pizza) and an order of chicken skewers. When we got our food the chicken was tasty but cold. The flatbread bacon onion and cheese was tasty and filling. Our service was pretty marginal. It was like a restaurant that was trying very hard to be upscale but whiffs on the little things that makes for a pleasurable experience. The decor and atmosphere was nice. As a Michigan native who's lived in Los Angeles for the past decade, I've grown accustomed to being disappointed with the meager restaurant options when I come home to visit my family - there are a few gems hidden amongst the chain establishments, but you have to be in-the-know to find them. Lucky for me, my sister had recently tried Wrought Iron Grill, and on her glowing recommendation, the whole family made the drive out to Owosso to give it a shot...and wow, were we glad we did!!! It's definitely a hike to get there, but well worth the mileage. Every single dish that hit the table was a success, from the Wrought Iron Pizza to the Four Onion Soup to the Pesto Flatbread. The dish I ordered for myself ended up being my personal favorite - the Seafood Risotto, a dish I would normally hesitate to try anywhere that's farther than 100 miles from the ocean, but it was utterly fantastic and fresh. Even the Caesar salad was terrific and unique - the 'Tuscan dressing' was absolutely to die for. The selection of Michigan brews is a big plus, and the service was super friendly and on top of their game. I'm absolutely making this place my #1 stop each and every time I go home to visit. read more

We had dinner there last weekend and I was totally disappointed based on all fo the good reviews. We orderd the lobster, spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer and it was bland and I have had better at Applebee's to be quite honest. I had the crab stuffed whitefish and it came topped with a red sauce and I could not tastet the fish or crab at all. The fish was overdone and I am not sure it was even Lake Superior Whitefish, I think it was a piece of cod. Two of my friends had the bleu cheese topped sirloin which was average but the mashed potatoes were cold and gluey. Another friend ordered the grilled chicken with pesto and again it was average and not worth the price. I will say the restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the decor is nice but definitely not worth the drive or the prices. read more

I was in town visiting my sister and she suggested the WIG for a nice dinner. We would have gotten better food and service at Applebee's!! The waitress obviously lacked training and didn't know the menu well. First, she brought the wrong dish to me, and was annoyed when I sent it back. My pasta dish was absolutely horrific. It was nothing like she describe when I asked about it. When I complained she fetched the manager, who lacked in costumer service training. I then ordered the lobster bisque just because it was quick. The lobster bisque was a thin green substance. yuck!! I choked it dow plugging my nose. We thought we'd try dessert, so ordered the crème brûlée which was flat and insipid. The food was disappointing but the lack customer service is unforgivable. read more

We had a fantastic experience for dinner! Just walked in on a Saturday night, and though reservations are recommended, it was early and they accommodated us. Service was friendly and attentive. I had the shrimp and lobster risotto, and oh my goodness was it delicious! Portions were large. I brought my leftovers home and the risotto may have been even better the next day, if that's possible. Others in our party had the pork chop, glazed salmon, steak salad, and fish and chips. Everyone loved their meal. My son couldn't get enough of the bread, which is served with melted butter. A few in our party have food allergies and gluten intolerance. They handled both very well, and we had no issues. Gluten free items are labeled on the menu, which is helpful. read more

We love the WIG. A great selection of microbrews, an imaginative and varied menu that's always being revised, and good service. Dinners can get pricey if you order appetizers, drinks, and deserts, but lunches are reasonably priced, always freshly prepared, and the ambiance is great. The name comes from the fact that the restaurant is located in the former Woodard's Furniture factory, makers of wrought iron patio furniture for many years. Much of the old factory architecture has been preserved. There's also other businesses in the building, a coffee shop in back, and loft apartments upstairs. read more

My husband and I had a Belated Valentine's dinner at the WIG last night and we we're not disappointed. I had the seafood risotto and it was amazingly delicious!!! Hubby had the blue cheese encrusted steak and he savored every bite! We usually sit near the front or at the bar if we are there to watch a game, but this time we were seated in a larger room towards the back. Not my favorite area to be seated, but it wouldn't take much to change the lighting and seating arrangement to improve the ambiance. Regardless, I love this place and highly recommend it! read more

Was here with family on a Saturday at 1:00 pm. It was my mother's birthday and also my daughters birthday. We had been here before a couple years ago for my parents 50th wedding anniversary and had a great experience so we thought we would come again. My daughters split a pizza and they said it was just ok. They also had the spinach artichoke dip with nacho chips included and when they finished the chips they asked for a chip refill and the waitress brought back a total of 8 chips. Seriously? Maybe their saving their chips for the dinner crowd. I had the prime rib sandwich and there was more bread than meat and they forgot the Swiss cheese. My wife had pizza also but most not all was burned underneath so bad that it could not be eaten. I also ordered a Bloody Mary which tasted like watered down tomato juice. I would have let the waitress know about our complaints but I didn't want to upset my mom on her special day. Overall the food isn't anything spectacular and it's a bit overpriced. We won't be going back to Wrought Iron Grill. We'll probably go to Greg and Lou's instead. read more

I have eaten here 3 times. Once when they first opened, once a few years later, and then again a few years later (today). Still unimpressed. My wedge salad had a half-pound of sundried tomatoes on it, which were unchopped and super chewy. The Pow pow shrimp I ordered didn't say fried, but they were breaded, fried, and covered in a glorified siracha mayo... there were nothing Thai about them. My mom's potato skins were uncomfortably greasy and tasted so plain. I would be happy to pay the prices here if the food was just decent. Lulas and Smokin Jonny V's are the only places worth while in Owosso. Also, all I asked for the whole time was a straw... didn't get one. read more

Well, I was told it was great but was disappointed. Besides being located across from an out of business casket factory, I found the menu and ambiance lacking. Trying so hard to be trendy I feared the establishment might pull a hipsternia, the seating was uncomfortable and the lighting neither helpful nor ambient. I got a burger. I could barely recognize it as beef due to an entire spice rack that must have spilled on it and no non "edgy" sides or accouterments. Maybe I am old-fashioned but I found myself missing burgers and fries, baked potatoes, mashed, and potato. Also, the pop tasted off as well, unfortunately, the ingredient ratio was pretty clearly incorrect. I would say ho hum, but it left me somewhat unsatisfied. It could be my palate is too basic for the semi-exotic fare in flavorings and spicing. It is a pass for me. read more

Over-priced for cheap food. We had difficulty before, but decided to try it out again since it had been a while. We ordered an $11 crab ball appetizer... and we're shocked at getting 3 tiny balls... how is that $11? The bagged lettuce certainly doesn't cost that much... we had a similar issue the previous time ordering the scallops appetizer for $13... we got a whopping 2 scallops. The waitresses response to our complaint, was equally baffling.." We dont control that". We asked for bread and they delivered it to the wrong table and took about 10 minutes to get back with us. The food was bland, and their prime rib sandwich is most definitely NOT prime rib.... this place is getting worse and worse..... oh and adding fresh bell pepper to frozen vegetables doesn't fake us out into thinking your vegetables are fresh.... or your rice isn't riceoroni..... and when I ask for mashed squash, I expect it to be squash, not mashed potatoes with some squash in it. read more

We needed a nice place to eat in a town we didn't know much about. Found Wrought Iron Grill on Yelp and having driven through the main street of town, we were SO happy to find Wrought Iron Grill. Good food, great Michigan beer, both in bottles and on tap and the service was great - she offered to bring the kids food right away - always a sign of a knowledgeable waitstaff. Had the Health Nut Salad which was fantastic - we shared it with 4 adults. My mom and I split the Shrimp Tacos - dripping good and the Ahi Tuna sandwich - also good despite my skepticism about the Ciabatta bread, but it actually worked well. For such a small town, the Wrought Iron Grill is a real find. Nagging inattention to detail keeps me from giving it five stards. There's a nice bar area, with great wines by the glass and microbrews. The cocktail I had was uninspired so I'd recommend sticking to wine and beer. The menu is well thought-out and varied. Vegetarians will have trouble finding more than one entree. The food was tasty and well-prepared although we had to send back a rack of lamb ordered "medium" that came to the table bloody. The service was friendly and attentive without being rushed. You won't find anything this good within an hour's drive, so I heartily recommend the Grill. read more

1.14.12. Dinner for 4. We attempted to make reservations earlier in the week, but was told it was not necessary. Upon arrival, we had about a 30 minute wait, but secured seats at the bar. I ordered a Absolute Gimlet on the rocks w/ a twist of lime. I received straight Absolute on the rocks which was easily corrected. Two orders of Mackinaw Island Tea (as in Long Island Ice Tea), and the bar ran out of ingredients after the first drink. Husband thoroughly enjoyed his Dirty Martini. Decor was high-end comfortable industrial. The bar was very large with deep granite counters and comfortable stools. Husband and I ordered cups of French Onion and Seafood Bisque soup. Seafood Bisque was piping hot, rich and creamy, with small chunks of indistinguishable seafood. French Onion was tepid and strangely sweet; too much so to have come from just the onions. Very little cheese. We also shared the Health Nut Salad---the highlight of the whole meal. The table shared Medicciettes-beef encrusted with cheesy breadcrumbs. A spicy sauce provided nice heat. The beef was very tender. I ordered Filet Mignon, rare. The filet was cooked to order, but dry and stringy. The bacon wrap was undercooked and not edible. The side of mixed veggies (squash, zucchini) was limp and stone cold. Baked potato was well . . .a baked potato. Side of Bearnaise Sauce should have been called Pepper Sauce since that is all that could be tasted. Husband loved his BBQ Sandwich, but the fries were cold. He did not finish them. One guest had the New York. He didn't comment much, but I noticed the mixed veggies were left uneaten. Another guest had the Napa Steak Sandwich and a salad. He offered no commentary on his food. Service was so sad. It took the waitress about 10 minutes to get to our table. She apologized profusely and said they were unexpectedly busy. She took my husband's order first. I was not ready, so she went to a guest who ordered an appetizer. Then, before completing all remaining orders, she left our table saying she had to place the appetizer order. (Aside from this professional behavior, she didn't even think to check with the rest of us to inquire if we wanted apps.) She came back a while later to take remaining orders and apologized again. Bread was delivered with side plates of oil and butter. My husband asked for water, and as she headed to leave we stopped her and asked for water for the whole table. He also asked for coffee. She didn't look put out per se, but rather that she didn't really have time for water service. Coffee arrived, cold. Waitress apologized and said she'd start a fresh pot. Coffee came back hot. Appetizers arrived at the same time as the soups and salad. Timing was obviously off in the kitchen. When finished, plates were taken off the table with our silverware. We were still eating the bread and had to tell the busser not to remove the basket. Entrees arrived, without silverware, forcing us to wait until we asked for, and received, cutlery. Busser came to clear away our table and attempted to remove a plate where a guest was still eating. We laughed and wondered if the kitchen had a shortage of service ware. Overall, a really disappointing experience. If we ever chose to go again, we will stick exclusively to salads. read more
